what's differences between BL and UL for you guys?
UL can flash kernel.
BL cannot flash kernel!
what's recovery?
some binary files that should be called before calling and starting system so it's pretty good to start in kernel before trying to start system.
but what if we can't modify the kernel?
yet we can modify the system and put some binary files in stock chargemon (when the phone trying to figure whether goes to offline charging or not) so it starts first in whole system and wait for a key, if pressed just execute the recovery!
so again, can something that specifically build for LB be flashed or run on UB?? my answer is mostly yes.
can something that needs flashing kernel or other things than system and data on LB? my answer is mostly NO
is [NUT] recovery for both ub and lb? yes! if you don't have recovery on kernel. ( or else you have two recovery one in kernel and one in system and 3 seconds delay in each starting nothing else)
This is how I rooted my Xperia E1 Dual (C2104).
Steps sounds obvious but it was the simpler I got after searching for solutions on the net so maybe usefull for someone (also only possible by K4sh work in offering CWM versions for E1: CWM for E1. Thanks!)
These steps are intended only for the specified models/firmware:
-Xperia E1 D2005 20.1.A.0.47
-Xperia E1 D2105 20.1.B.2.15
-Xperia E1 Dual TV D2114 20.1.B.0.65
My phone is D2104 20.1.B.2.15 but it worked. (D2104 x D2105 difference is the baseband: D2104 / D2105 difference
You will need:
1- A unlocked bootloader: http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/
2- Download and install the matching CWM custom recovery against your model/firmware version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-e1/general/philz-touch-recovery-xperia-e1-t2941831 using flashtool
3- Boot into CWM recovery, tap 'Power Options' then 'Power Off'. CWM will say you don't have root. Tap 'install root'.
4- Boot again into recovery and choose to power off. If it doesn't warn about missing root so it's done.
5- Download and install SuperSu from Google Play. After you run it for the first time it will say that it needs to install SuperSu binaries. Choose 'OK' and choose SuperSu to reboot device in CWM mode.
6- SuperSu will reboot, install binaries and reboot again into normal system. Enjoy root!
After doing this the CWM keeps working as usual.
This method just uses necessary root files already living in the CWM install (probably).
:cyclops:
Nice tutorial, thanks!
mine is D2005 and current version is 20.1.A.2.14 does this work on it? and if anyone else tried please post here your confirmation

Most probably is that it will not work uploading a boot image compiled from a different firmware version.
Anyway you can try if you like. For _what_ I_ understand_ worst that can happen is phone not booting into Android but you can revert it uploading the original boot/kernel image considering its some D2005 image after all. Either case is you assuming any risk
Hi
I have a c5302 with stock .205 ROM and an unlocked boot loader.
I've been looking for a working custom recovery for my device but they all seem to be for UB devices or ones with different ROMs.
My previous device was much less complicated in terms of recoveries and ROM so I'm kind of confused and I don't want to destroy my phone with dumb actions. I'd appreciate any help.
UB = unlocked bootloader
Use XZ Dual Recovery
Hit the Thanks button if this helps. I swear it's free!!
You can use xz dual recovery or also you can flash a twrp or philz.img . you can find the .img files in te cm12.1 thread

Yep your bootloader is unlocked if it says "yes" and if you had unlocked it. And if you want to install twrp in your xperia c6603 you can do this its simple.
1. download the app "recovery manager for xperia" its paid but you can search and download setup from google
2. Now install it give permission for root access.
3. Now select twrp and download it and flash it as fotakernel.
4. Now you have twrp as fotakernel.

thx for reply ess arr btw im using stock firnware
Recovery Manager for Xperia™
Replace the boring CWM with TWRP or PhilzTouch Recovery on your Xperia.
Almost all custom kernels and ROMs have the "extract_elf_ramdisk" method embedded in them which allows flashing a recovery.img to the FOTAKernel partition and using this recovery instead of the recovery that comes inside the kernel.
Since most CM/AOKP/PA ROMs come with CWM in the default kernel, it is really helpful in having TWRP or Philz-Touch Recovery on the FOTAKernel.
Another big advantage is, even if the recovery inside the kernel is broken, The FOTAKernel recovery will continue to work.
***NOTE***
***Only for Xperia users using custom ROMs/kernels.*** <---- this one still confusing if it still will work in my stock finware ?
***Works only on rooted and bootloader unlocked phones***
***SUPPORTED DEVICES***
Xperia Z2
Xperia Z1 compact
Xperia Z Ultra
Xperia Z1
Xperia ZR
Xperia Z
Xperia ZL
Xperia Tablet Z (both LTE & WiFi models)
Xperia T
Xperia V
Xperia SP

No different between F8332 and F8331 kernel or fota-kernel (recovery)... Only difference are system.*.sin cach.*.sin userspace.*.sin oem.*.sin
please give me some detail instruction to install it!
my Knowledge: backup TA -> unlock bootloader -> flash this kernel -> flash recover -> flash SuperSU -> done??
after that, if i want to roll back to stock, i must do that: push TA back to phone by recovery -> reflash stock rom by flashtool.??
is this right?
and one more question : is this kernel use for stock rom and all thing will work fine??

Are you on FW41 (android 7.1.1)?
If "YES" you must downgrade to MM rom and not patched "dirty-cow" vulnerable for backup TA partition (if you don't backed up later. If you have ta backup skip this step)
Then update to N 7.1.1
After update to 7.1.1:
1- unlock bootloader (backup data and internal sd, device wiped all data!)
2- go to "fastboot mode" (power off phone, when hold volume up plug your phone to pc, blue light led must be on)
3- flash that image for drm-fix and disable dm-verify with this code
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
4- reboot phone complete
Code:
fastboot reboot
5- again power off and go to fastboot mode. And flash recovery now:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-***-kagura.img
fastboot reboot
6- now go to recovery and install supersu zip package.
If you want go to complete stock you need TA.img (save that several place in your PC and better save on cloud storage like google drive)
If you need, flash TA.img and flash FTF stock rom and phone back to theirs factory state.
** and for knowledge: this is not custom kernel!!!
This is custom boot.img. The kernel inside that file is completely stock. Only "ramdisk" patched for allow you to root your device and fix drm.
completery understand
