Dear all,
My moto x' IMEI got invalid after having a repair process. May I flash the raw valid imei to the device ?
You know I have my own valid IMEI number
If a repair shop messed it up, they should fix it.
You can try flashing your devices exact firmware... Same Android version and see if it fixes it.
Other than that, any talk of manually manipulating your imei is mostly illegal and definitely not discussed on XDA. ?

No hardware "repair" will just result in you to loose your IMEI it would have screwed up more! And if its a result of a software "repair" it is almost cuz of mismatched partitions, so flashing the whole firmware for your device should help to correct the issue!! If the repair guy has the "tools/power" to mess up your IMEI he should definitely have the ability to restore it back... Other than that changing IMEIs is ILLEGAL is almost ALL COUNTRIES and against XDA Rules!

IMEI is generic to the Mother board it is pre programmed into it... So if you have lost the IMEI that means the repair guy gave you a faulty motherboard... You should catch hold of him... U dont have signal right?

I agree, there are some tools to do that, but in long run, it's really NOT ADVISABLE, to change the IMEI.
Adieu..
why do you want to change your IMEI
besides, changing a phone's imei is harder than just flashing a phone's firmware. Its also extremely risky and not advised to be done without a proper phone technician.
Hi,
I had a bricked G1 due to wrong radio update.
Got it restored from a repair shop using JTAG. Now when i am checking the IMEI number is showing all zero - 0000000000000
Due to this I am unable to connect to any mobile network. Can this be restored as I have the number on the Box which i received with the Mobile phone.
Will it again need opening the phone or I can do it myself ?
Regards,
Chinmay
After the JTAG Recovery, I was facing this problem, so I also tried flashing the radio and the factory rom but does not solve the issue.

Does anyone have any solution ? Can JTAG solve this ?
Whoever did the work was a complete moron and wrote to parts of the flash that should NOT BE TOUCHED.
Technically, it is possible to repair.
Haven't heard of anybody with this exact problem before, so it is uncharted territory.
IMEI Number got Reset
Take it back to the guy who did the jtag unbricking.
He should be able to put your IMEI number back.
Please note a "How to change the IMEI" Faq could be used for ilegal purposes.
Hence it is against the forum rules to explain how to do this.
Hi Thanks for the solution.
I am not changing my IMEI number, just restoring the original one so this should not be illegal.
This post can be blocked if it is against the forum rules. I don`t intend to do anything illegal.

Like most knowledge, it can be used for good or evil. There would be no reason to close or delete this thread, since nobody here suggested doing anything evil and your question is totally reasonable. The main issue with being up the technical details about changing the IMEI would be that it could be used to ENABLE people to use it for evil purposes. That is why vlad mentioned about why there isn't and shouldn't be a set of instructions about it.
Got the IMEI number restored. Mobile Network is up now.
The guy who did the JTAGG Recovery mistakenly did IMEI repair is what he said.
Now its fine.

Hy,
1 month ago, my original motherboar dead and I wasn't under warranty. So I decide to change it by myself. Today, my mobile run with the new motherboard (internet, phone, usb device etc...) under 4.1.2 XXLT9 and it isn't root. But I have an IMEI 00000000000000 and an IMEISV 01.
What does it mean ? Did I need to change the IMEI and how ? Could I root my phone without risk ?
Thank's to everybody for an idea
Hy,
Does anybody have an idea ?? really ???
so I find solution alone.
thank's to everybody
I hope ..... we will see

Usually when you get the board changed by service center, it comes back with the same imei or a new one.. Not sure where you got the board from but if you have backup of your earlier efs img, that could be of some help.
I don't have the IMEI of the old motherboard, it's dead before...
And an IMEI in fifteen 0 is the sign of a virgin motherboard that could be send to every where... I learn this in the web...
So I decide to keep it like this, because it seem very difficult to change it without a root of the phone.
hi all, i have my phone repaired by non certified technicians, because i have a bootloop for my phone. when i unlock my BL it shows different imei than what shown in my box. if someone flash different TA partition, should their phone bricked? because my phone was not bricked, it was just bootlooping, after passing loading screen, it was black screen, than, it was restarted.

They swapped the motherboard for sure. You cannot change imei via software, its impossible, its encrypted. And any attempt to ask here how to change the imei will be banned.
If you need to proof the technicians that they changed the motherboard, you make them compare the imei that appears on the bottom of the phone with the one that comes up when you dial *#06#.
Good luck.

You need someone's modem EFS/QCN backup file. They need to have the exact same version phone you have

Lol didn't think of that!
Perhaps the person can alter their file and remove their IMEI number or make it all 9s.
He can open the file and edit it with his real IMEI (assuming he has his box or the real number written somewhere)

but see that's the thing, I'm pretty sure he doesn't have it. If he did it would be simple to edit the ftm partition, which has worked for others. But there's really nothing u can do if u don't have it.

That absolutely makes sense!
When shopping for mine, I noticed some of these V40s have their IMEI #s printed on the back.
Would be very silly (and lucky) if the O.P lucked out, had an IMEI printed on the bottom and overlooked it.
Otherwise, I'm wondering if he can somehow talk with someone at his phone provider tech support and see if they can share the number of the last phone that connected to their service.
Pretty sure if he catches the right person, they may share his V40's IMEI after he successfully identifies himself

I had this problem back in the LG G2 days, had trouble with my EFS too but was able to recover. Sounds like something is off and is not coming through from your EFS backup.
If you search my screen name you'll find an old thread I made about it from years ago. Hopefully the steps will be similar and can be helpful to you.
