Accidentally deleted some stock files - how can I recover them? - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
After rooting the Note 4 I of course spent a considerable amount of time debloating the device by deleting a ton of apps. I remember erasing 2 or 3 apks called calendar / calendar provider or something of the kind. Now, my Google Calendar won't sync. I am guessing one of those apks was vital. How can I recover those files?
Thanks

Also use titanium and freeze the apps first and use for a day and if you good then do as you please.

Thank you all. Unfortunately after extracting from another ROM and recovering the missing APKs, Google Calendar still won't sync, and it would still crash when trying to add a new event.
If I dirty flash, will it reset all settings?

No. It shouldn't affect your user data.

Added to the list. More welcome.
What is cyon.apk?
And why is it "safe" to fremover the og launcher? At least you should put your launcher of choice in system/app first....

What if you just remove the above apps without backup of them.
Do you brick the phone if hard reset is done ?

Okay so when we remove the apk program files we don°t actually remove the programs from the Rom ??

Nothing will happen, you just will miss apps.
When you hard reset your phone it wiil just delete user data and cache partition.
Any changes to system folder means you make changes to rom and cannot be undone without reflashing or restore backup.
Be careful with deleting of apps! If something goes wrong and the phone is not booting we don't have any global rom and flashing tool for now.

Just freez them with Titanium backup if you want the free mem.... space wise deleting them is not really nessecary.... or pull them out with adb first.
Some Insight
Let's work top down guys, no panic, no alarm.
There are "system apps" and there are "system apps"
Most people refer to any app that's installed on the system partition as a "system app" but the real definition of a "system app" is one that is signed with a root or platform key. This key allows the app to interact with the OS at the lowest level, manipulating resources and other apps.
It's safe to remove either
You can remove either types of these apps but some may be dependencies for other apps and removing these can cause Force Closes.
A Factory Reset does not touch the system partition
As stated above, any modifications you make to the system partition (/system/*) will withstand a Factory Reset. This is why root still works after a Factory Reset.
Safe-to-remove apps
I personally provided the list above and can confirm that these apps are safe to remove but you need to be aware:
Some apps are required (like a Launcher), if you remove it, make sure you have an alternative installed.
Some apps are not available on the Market, you may not be able to substitute them.
Make a backup before you delete any apps!
Note: For critical apps, like a Launcher you *must* have one on your system partition! Do *not* remove your only Launcher from the system partition!
Additional Apps
A lot more can be safely removed from the system partition but they do not consume real-time resources and therefore there is no substantial benefit in removing them. I will post a full schedule of these apps later if somebody doesn't beat me to it.
Enjoy.
More safe to remove: All widgets (loads of them), livewallpaper, protips, maps, lg memo
instead of making backup of the APK files with ADB... can't i just use root explorer to copy the APK files to a folder on my internal sd or computer ??

Errug bedankt ! Nice overview.
Since space isn't an issue just freezing them with Titanium Backup should free up the memory as well right?
I'll be waiting for a conclusive list of "freezable" apps. ( And patiently await a custom booloader so we can get some really good custom roms.)
@Xmoo
Haven't see inside the ROM but I assume googlefeedback.apk is in there.
Wouldn't hurt killing that to.
I wish I've red this thread before tinkering around witgh my phone. Seem to have kinda bricked it after owning it for 3 days.
I was playing around with it trying to get rid of the facebook, twitter & myspace for LG apps but I couldn't figure out what they were called in the Titanium Backup Pro list så i backed up LG Home (or was it just called LG) and naively thought the worst thing that could happen was that I would have to do a hard factory reset if anyting went wrong.
But as the android n00b that I am (first android phone) I should have known that LG Home is the launcher! So know I have a phone I can check emails on but if I go past the startup guide it crasches and im stuck at the startup LG logo until I do another hard factoryreset.
Anyone know if the default image/ROM is soon to be released or should I take a shot and send my phone in for repair hoping that they never pick up on what I did?
Sorry of this is offtopic.
There are a couple of threads with similar problems, so search a bit and you should find a way to fix it

Have someone send you the lg home apk via email and install, or perhaps another launcher if you want. You'll get the "Install ?" question when you open the mail.. do so and you have a launcher again.

When I check out my Active Services I can see the following programs: Whatsapp services (2), Twitter (1), Sim-toolkit (1), Google Services Framework (2), Media (without anything beneath it), Music (2), com.lge.omadmclient (1), Bluetooth Share (2) weird cause bluetooth is OFF! , Wheather & clock update (1), On-Screen phone (1), DRM Service (1), Maps (1), LG PC Suite ObexManager (1), and the Gingerbread Keyboard (1).
Big list in comparison to my G1 and I guess there can be SOME things deleted. Altough I don't know which ones. A guess:
1. Media (what does this do?)
2. Music (I disabled the music bar, and don't want that service running all the time!)
3. com.lge.omadmclient (what's this?)
4. Bluetooth Share... weird thing because I have my bluetooth OFF all the time... how to get rid of these?
5. Wheather & clock updater. I don't use that widget so...?
6. On-Screen phone, what does it do?
7. DRM Service
8. LG PC Suite ObexManager?
Can somebody please tell me if I can get rid of (some) of these services, and if so, which programs to freeze Thanks!

Wiped data and cache without Nandroid

Hello I was wondering if someone can help me. I download Cyanogenmod 6.1.2 which was a good mod for my first. I thought I was doing everything correctly, rooted my phone for the first time. I was following steps on how to access the ROM I recently downloaded, but unfortunately upon installing the rom I wiped my cache and data without backing up my Nandroid. Now everything is gone, I lost my contacts, all my data and on top of that I dont have GMAIL to restore my contacts nor do I have the MARKET.
If someone could help me I would appreciate it, or even provide me with a link in which I can restore my phone back to a default setting so I can start over. I tried looking through the forums, and I couldn't find anything. I don't know if I'm looking in the wrong places, or subforums.
Thank you.
I don't have your answer, not a droid user, but I can tell you that it's probably a very easy fix. Don't sweat it. Your contacts and gmail aren't stored on your phone.

Well I found out that my contacts were saved VIA gmail, so I found most of my contacts. For the most part I'm worried if I damage my phone in any way, by that I mean losing the Market application in which I can't find when I google market.apk

Did you flash the GoogleApps? With CMx you need to flash it after you flash CM. Google apps include account settup, googla apps downloader, market, etc
When you set you account up you will see your contacts again
The phone is not damaged at all! Stay chill )... As eXtink said, you just need to download Google Apps, put the .zip file in the update folder and run it from Androidiani, just as you did with the ROM. Here's the link (choose the one for HDPI devices). Have a nice day!

[Q] Restore option?

I rooted my droid 3 but for some reason my contacts app keeps force closing! Is there anyway to root the phone and restore it back to factory setting then try rooting it again? How would I restore back to factory default?
There is no ability to restore, reset or do-over with the Droid 3 until a .sbf is released (leaked).
did you delete anything after rooting your Droid 3?
yep...but i tried to play it relatively safe removing bloatware, but apparently I must have deleted something that was critical to contacts. How long do you think we will be waiting until an sbf is out?
Sounds like you deleted the yahoo stuff. Find the system.img file that was uploaded here weeks ago, pull out the two yahoo .apk and .odex files and push them back to /system/app/
That will fix your contacts.
There is no ETA or guess on the .sbf. It will require a leak from within Motorola.

Nope, those are it.....those have been causing Force Close on contacts for all that deleted or "froze" them. If you still have those then apparently there is another app that you did remove that ties in to Contacts.
You must have deleted Corporate Sync Authenticator, if I freeze that one I get your error as well

[Q] Contacts process force close after removing some bloatware

Would really appreciate some help.
Removed some bloatware via Titanium Backup, and of course, I got trigger happy.
process com.motorola.contacts (Contacts force closes)
process com.motorola.conversations (text messaging force closes)
So I have Root Explorer and got a hold of a system dump for Bionic.
I started by moving YahooContacts.apk (one of the apps I guess I shouldn't have uninstalled) back to the /system/app folder...but it doesn't show up anywhere as an installed app (just that the .apk was moved). If I try to actually select the .apk and try to install it says "Application did not Install" but the .apk IS moved.
Processes still don't work after moving.
I would appreciate any help, at this point I can't text or place calls. Thanks in advance, this forum helped me with the entire root process.
You cannot freeze/remove ANY of the other authenticator apps, it will cause contacts to freeze. I ran into that on the Droid 3.
First off there is no need to delete/remove, Freezing them accomplishes the same thing but most importantly it allows you to reverse what you have broken by Defrosting it. Do yourself a favor stop deleting and start freezing. If 16GB is not enough internal storage for you then you might consider an external HD from Seagate!!!!!!! LOL
I realize I made a big mistake. That's totally on me But it's in the past
Do I have any options to get this working again? I am definitely going to freeze apps in the future.
If I did delete an authenticator process, is there any way I can get those back? Would they be available through a system dump?
I believe that you need to make sure the permissions are correct after reinstalling an apk to the system/app folder. I've never done this, so I'll let you do the research. I've heard you can use root explorer to do this or a script with terminal emulator. Sorry I can't help more
I have the exact same problem, and am attempting to troubleshoot this issue on a different forum, however I am not allowed to post links but I'll try and keep you updated.
Edit: It's not a problem with permissions, I've made sure that they're correct with root explorer. It seems to be a Bionic-specific issue. I might just return it at this rate.
Thankfully, there's an unroot to use. I think im in the same boat. re-added all the yahoo related .apk and .odex and set permissions/owner, still nothing. Unroot and hope the Verizon dude is in a good mood!
Except now ADB is throwing "ERROR: ADB could not be granted root access" when trying to unroot
excellent.
Someone in the thread I was talking about had some success, its on droidforums dot net, droid bionic forum, bionic support, HELP! accidentally deleted IMSCServer from Droid Bionic thread. Maybe you can try something I haven't.
just do a factory reset thats what i had to do as I had the same problem.
I tried that, it didn't work... Did you actually get your system apps back? Did you do it through settings or the recovery menu?
i froze my bloat thats prob the difference and it was yahoo that caused the problem for me...

It really begs the question why anything with Yahoo is required by the system. Furthermore, why did they make it so frustratingly hard to reinstall system apps on the Bionic? Really disappointed in Motorola for this.
Here is the fix for Contacts, restore these files and set correct permission, reboot and presto Contacts fixed
That did it.. I have been looking for the YAHOO Contacts.apk file for 3 days with a bloody wortheless phone that I spent 300 shells on!
BTW I agree with Glimmerman, WHY DID YAHOO get involved in contacts? Talk about a sneaky way in integrate them.

I have the exact same problem, it's caused by deleting the Yahoo Contacts system app. However, due to some unknown problem with the Bionic it is currently impossible to restore this app from a backup. See this thread for info:

Having a similar issue wherein when I try to "show only contacts with a phone number" I get a force close as well. I did backup/uninstall Yahoo authenticator, so I assume this is the issue as well.
I already can't wait for just a clean GB rom. So much of the bloatware on this phone seems tied in to the OS in weird ways.

Woah, how did you restore them? Are you sure they actually installed, or did you just move the app into system/app?
I fixed it! Thank god!
I FIXED IT!!!!
I had ALSO removed the blur_yahoo.apk from the list as well as AdService.apk along with the dreaded YahooContacts.apk.
I DID move them all back and changed the permissions for the YahooContacts.apk.
After much screwing around with the dalvik-cache, trying to replace the file correctly, rename things, name the yahoo contacts thing correctly, I finally did a full system reset from the bootloader and lo and behold NOTHING.
It fixed NOTHING.
Contacts still broken.
I logged back in to the phone and the damn thing still wouldn't work. I then opened the apps folder to prepare to move everything back and change it all back to stock so I can unroot and prep to take it in to VZW...I noticed the permissions for the other blur_***.apk's were still set incorrectly...specifically yahoo...I replaced all of the .apk files from backups along with their .odex files, but I neglected to correct the OTHER permissions. I fixed the other permissions, tried, still no dice...I rebooted and then BAM!!! IT WORKED! CONTACTS COMES UP NOW!
I AM SO DAMN EXCITED!

Sorry, just got around to checking this now. Glad to see the community got a fix in place. I hope some of my information came in handy for someone or maybe even contributed to constructing a fix.
Glad to hear this issue is resolved! Damn Yahoo app...why is this tied into Contacts at all?
now my com.android.calendar FC when I try to add an event, it worked before.
What am I missing now? :/ lol one thing fixes and another breaks...under settings...applications...all there is a service called Calendar Service and shows up as 0.00B, I need to know what this corresponds with and I may have solved my issue.
Any help appreciated
