I know the bootloader is locked by an RSA key. What I do not get is why we cant create a new boot loader to boot whatever we want. From the verison thread the bootloader is almost identical to a generic android version. Isthe bootloader verified by something else and dont we have??
source code for everything except the l
locked bootloader. Im willing to reversre the boooader unless there are other reasons not to try ?
If anyone knows links to must read info ill be glad to read it .

Hey guys, I am fairly new to the android phones, (recently came from an iPhone) but I had heard so much about the freedoms with the Android os so I decided to switch.
I purchased the Sony Xperia T (LT30a) locked on the Bell mobility LTE network. I have really wanted to unlock the bootloader, so when I went in to check it said "Bootloader Unlock Allowed: NO". after some searching I read that it was my carrier preventing the bootloader from being unlocked, and that if I followed the following simple steps, it would change the message to :"Bootloader Unlock Allowed: YES". so here is what I did:
1. Flashed a Generic firmware to my phone (ICS it was a uk generic) which then changed my model number in "About phone" from LT30a to LT30p and removed all the bell branding.
2. Using an IMEI number, i was able to get an unlock code and unlocked the phones sim card to work on any network, and have tested and it does work.
the problem I am having is that even after doing this, the bootloader is still "locked" and can not be unlocked. I have taken a look at the methods for the test pin, but that involves removing the battery to view the motherboard, which sucks because this phone the battery is not removable. if anyone know a free or paid way to unlock the bootloader on the Xperia T LT30a or LT30p models, please let me know! thanks.
I dont know where you read that, but it is wrong and there is no way to change that message.
If it says no, then your bootloader can not be unlocked.
Its not Sony's fault, its not googles fault, its Bells fault for being a dev unfriendly provider.
Test point method will not work even if we could remove the battery, that loophole has been closed in 2012 devices.

ok well thank you very much! I guess my next question is.. is there any way at all to install a custom ROM such as cyanogen mod 10 ? or if you know of any better ones while my bootloader is locked?

You can only install stock based custom roms because you wony be able to flash a custom kernel with a locked bootloader. Therefore there is no hope for cyanogenmod, AOKP or MUIU
There are several in the Dev section to choose from, ranging from early ICS firmwares to the latest JB firmware.
I dont recommend Roms (Even my own) as choosing a rom should be a personal thing, but the I am currently on Timin8rs rooted and deodexed JB rom which you can flash.
You will need to root your phone in order to flash a recovery, then flash the .zip for the rom using that recovery.
Find all instructions for doing that in the All in one thread. Its the first thread in the Q&A section.
good luck and if you need extra help after reading up on what you need to do then ask. But remember to read up first!

thank you very much! hopefully sometime in the near future they come out with a way to fix this problem, and believe me, I do not blame sony at all for this
Sorry for the double post! But I just wanted to say, that if anyone needs help testing different roms and/or ways of unlocking a locked bootloader, I do have a sim unlocked xperia T and just wanted to throw this out, but if sony does not "perma lock" the bootloader, and if it is infact the carrier, then would this not prove that it is sonething in the firmware? I spoke with my sister who is a manager for a bell store here, acording to her, Bell is not authorized to open, or attempt to fix this phone, it is simply sent to sony for repairs.. Just makes me wonder because if Bell can not open the phone, then they must have used some sort of software.. I have always thought of software as "semi-permenant" that it can be reversed , and that its only a matter of figuring out how to reverse it?

How can I install a custom ROM without an unlocked bootloader?
My phone says its bootloader cannot be unlocked
Mine too , it's must to be a solution to unlock the bootloader...
No, there is no solution
If it says it cannot be unlocked then it cannot be unlocked
Look in the development section for stock based custom roms that can be installed with a locked bootloader
To my experience it needs to be sim unlocked first in order to be bootloader unlocked. In a Xperia Z it said it couldn't unlock bootloader, i purchased unlock code, got it unlocked and then reflashed stock image. After that the status on "bootloader unlock allowed" was changed to yes.

Please provide proof of that, because this has never happened before and would be fantastic news
Also, some sim locked phones can have bootloaders unlocked and some sim free phones have bootloaders that cannot be unlocked. SO your logic is wrong.

Can't provide proof as 1) the bootloader was already unlocked 2) I don't even have the phone anymore.
I don't know if you find my logic right or wrong it was what happened to MY experience with one phone.
I'm pretty sure devs can give you a technical explanation about why it can or can't happen.

OK thanks.
I know what the devs will say. They will say it cant happen. This has been talked about ad infinitum across various xperia devices.
Also, if your boot was already unlocked then how did you know the status changed?
Thanks anyway.

When i got the phone (telcel mexico) it said the bootloader was not allowed to be unlocked.
I purchased an unlock code. Entered the code, unlocked the phone.
I flashed an upgraded FW via FTF
typed *#*#SERVICE#*#* and boom bootloader unlock statys changed to yes
That's how i know the status changed. So basically that's my story. I thought it could work with every device.
@gregbradley maybe the sim unlock method really works to change unlock bootloader status YES..bcs it works for some sony device, and we need to test this on Z1.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896553
There is nothing in that thread that confirms this. Plus the test point method to unofficially unlock the bootloader was stopped by Sony nearly 2 years ago.
But please, delve into this again if you want. But trust me it is a dead end and does not work. If it was easy as sim unlocking and flashing a ftf do you not think that would have been done by now.
Some seriously good devs have been working on this ever since the test point method was closed.

As the title of thread says, I cant unlock bootloader (bootloader unlock allowed: no)
I have rooted and got custom recovery and flashed a modded stock rom, but I now want to flash cm or rr rom and both require bootloader unlocked.
Is there a workaround or something as its silly that I cant unlock officially (I have code from sony but it wont work)
please help
Bump anyone
I'm in the same boat, bootloader unlock not allowed. Unfortunately it seems that the only way that might be possible is through Sony.
Kinda sucks as there's some roms I'd like to try..
Thanks for the reply, thats a shame looks like I have to stick with modified stock roms

no one didnt even tried?
solved, sorry may bad.please remove the thread.
Before you close, explain this for the newbies. I have the same problem, the OEM Unlock option in developer mode deosn't work, so I flash the stock signed ROM and after this I be able to unlock.

Hi, sorry that this is old, but I've had my XT1900-5 for a few months and want to start rooting it finally. But I haven't bothered much because of the issue I've read about unlocking this bootloader. What signed ROM etc. ? Any help to get me started would be useful.
no complexity, just follow the instructions in moto website , copy the code properly(use the moto recommended tool for accuracy) & you are good to go,for twrp & root see the forum.
Hi folks,
there is not any seperate forum for Z3 without "Play" - so I simply try to ask my questions here.
I have just read that there is already TWRP for Verizon Z3 Messi: https://twrp.me/motorola/motorolamotoz3.html.
As far as I know, its bootloader is not unlockable and probably will never be. This could explain why in the description of the above link TWRP is not flashed to the device but the device is booted by means of it via USB. That way, I suppose the device could at least be rooted without unlocked bootloader. Is that right? Can anybody confirm this?
Would it also be possible to flash a custom ROM to Z3 even with bootloader locked? Found for example this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hx1iJMgClws. Somehow this ROM must have come to Z3 despite of locked bootloader.
Sorry for all my questions - but I have never had any US carrier locked device yet. I am still waiting for my Z3 I ordered via eBay which would be my first device of this kind. As anyway, I will not have any support or warranty for it in Europe, I would like to mod it immediately. I have already modded and flashed multiple devices with unlocked or at least unlockable bootloader, but I have zero experience with locked bootloader modding possibilities. Maybe anybody can explain me what I have to consider.
Fake fake fake!!!
What do you mean with fake? The custom ROM? TWRP for Z3 definitely comes from official TWRP site...
the link leads to YT!
on the YT link leads to nowhere !!

Link is still there when I checked. Let me know if you get anywhere with this. I'm interested in the same thing.
The link provided in the description of the video leads to one of those generic download websites. I do not trust this as it is not a reputable file host.
It may be disputable, if the link to the ROM is trustworthy.
But can anybody tell me, what can be done with a phone with locked bootloader when booting it with TWRP via USB? Would it be possible that way to replace the complete ROM of the device even with locked bootloader? This is just a general question. I simply want to sort out what can be done at all.

The phone would refuse to boot if you alter the boot partition in any way. Most, if not all, custom roms use a custom boot image. This means it is not possible at the moment and you would also have to figure out how to gain root on the phone in the first place so it doesn't really matter anyway.
