Hi,
So just now, I wanted to watch some more videos of the new phone I recently ordered and am appropriately excited about. But while running a youtube search for "z3 compact" and changing the search filter for recently uploaded, suddenly dozens of videos popped up in the search, all uploaded in the last hour by a weird someone named "Jarrett Strout". All these random videos are made from random titles that all include "Xperia Z3" in them. The descriptions too seem to be jumbled from different videos (when compared to normal videos of the Z3 the "Jarret Strout" videos usually share a title with one of those real videos and the descriptions are also jumbled from actual regular videos of the Z3). And the videos themselves... they are just a random group of semi-relevant pictures, mostly weird pictures of Xperia devices and other phones, but then on some videos the pictures are even more random. All the videos also have this music that goes on for only the first minute - after that the video is just silent. Pretty creepy.
This is probably the work of some weird bot program designed to automatically make videos from random video title and descriptions and "relevant" found images. Really no idea what the purpose of this thingy is, maybe just a bored guy who wanted to see if he could make a random video creator that would freak people out. Regardless, this was just too weird, random and creepy for me not to share.

Your right, very weird. I agree its probably a bot.

This is an article I've been meaning to write for a little while now, since audio on the Ubuntu part of the Atrix is a bit tricky.
The basic idea is this: when in lapdock mode, it would be nice to have a music player that's designed for that form factor. As such, a decent starting point is the default GNOME music management program for Ubuntu 9.04: Rhythmbox.

However, after installing Rhythmbox, three plugin errors pop up. Two of them don't matter much to me (the jamendo and the Magnatune Store ones) and can be disabled, but cover art should work. A bit of Google footwork reveals that installing python-gst0.10 fixes that (and the stores too).
Unfortunately, an attempt to then play a FLAC causes... playback with no sound. Based on a previous post, pulseaudio appears to serve as the audio backbone. Rhythmbox, on the other hand, uses GStreamer, so that connection might not be working properly.
Another Google search ends up bringing up a wiki page that suggests that gnome-media needs to be installed so that we can run gstreamer-properties.
But, the pulseaudio plugin supposedly isn't installed. So, gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio needs to be installed as well.
And, then, finally! It's possible to play music via Rhythmbox! This should also allow any other GStreamer-based programs to output sound as well.
P.S. Yes, I like the occasionally bad joke, as the title implies.
who listens to flac media files anyways
awesome, thanks!
and as you suspected it does fix sound in other apps, like pidgin.
hope you don't mind i added it to my list.
Hi,
I developed a brand new app called "Zero to Hero".
The app let's you explore your yet unplayed music, those of your songs that you haven't yet ever played on your phone.
The key point: It's developed entirely using TouchDevelop, Microsoft's on device programming environment. Means it is developed right on Windows Phone itself.

thank you
The app just hit the marketplace:

Love this app, Best to discover the forgotten songs. We have it reviewed at wpxbox.com and also have couple of suggestions.
First is wrapping up of names of song which becomes messy when its too long. Second, once I play a song, does it get off the list ? I don't see that happening until I refresh

Thank you very much for the review,
regarding the issues, I'll look into them for the next update though I'm not sure whether it's exactly possible to fix all of them due to limitations of the TouchDevelop programing enviroment.
Okay, I know this may sound weird, but there's this video I'm looking for. As you can see with those keywords, typing that in Google doesn't bring me the results I'm looking for.
Here's a description of the video:
It features Andy The Android (Android mascot) as the protagonist
Andy is in this (8-bit? 16-bit?) world. Think old school video game
It's a side scroller. He's shooting at the bad guys with crazy powers. (Contra, and Megaman 1-10 come to mind)
This is a video, and not a video game, though it is designed like a video game.
This video is 3? 4? 5? years old. Sorry, but time passes by so fast, I honestly can't remember.
I hope those details help jog someone's memory. I'm thinking about it and want to see it, but have NO idea about it. And it's not like I can just type in "Android Game Old School" in Google. The keywords are too vague. If I can remember the event it was for... I feel like it was made by Google...
Well thanks for any help.
ALL MY YES!! OMG!! I found it!! They used the words "retro".
And before you click the link, I exaggerated. He's not shooting powers and whatnot, though I remembered it like that. That's probably why I couldn't find it. LoL!!

Oh my god, that is adorable!!
I have been using Snapchat frequently, but I have noticed that ever since a month ago, when I specifically record videos on Snapchat, there is a black bar on the top and bottom, I am assuming the aspect ratio is off? You can't change the camera settings via the Snapchat app, so I was wondering what could be causing this...
It takes pictures fine though. Really would like to fix this issue, as it is awkward sending a video via Snapchat with black bars making it look like as if I am using some type of ancient phone...
Can you send a screenshot so that we can see what you are seeing? AFAIK it may be an update affecting video

Sorry I just saw this! So I took a random picture of the Chicago Skyline via Google Images (if for some reason this post gets flagged, the original picture can be found here: http://monkeywrenchplumbers.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_44852.jpg).
Anywho, this is how videos on Snapchat turn out (again, I didn't take this picture!) but basically, imagine that picture was a normal 10 second video on Snapchat, that is how the video is usually outputted as, with the two black bars:

Since Facebook allows users to share GIF images, this format is becoming more and more popular and used in an online environment. GIFs gradually become part of the chat and social networks, many users often post GIFs on Facebook with funny content to make friends laugh, and there are also people who add text to GIF images to create cool and creative GIF images.
However, have you ever wanted to "swap" your face in that GIF image? With Deepfakes technology, this is entirely possible and you can do this right on your smartphone through the Doublicat application.
For those of you who don't know, Deepfakes is a term that refers to a technology that uses artificial intelligence to stitch one person's face into another's face in any video. Deepfakes technology has many good sides, but besides there are also many bad sides when this technology has been used by bad guys to cause extremely serious consequences. But putting that aside, a new application promises to let you take photos of yourself and then "insert" your face into a GIF that looks real.

This application, called Doublicat, uses the same technology as Deepfakes called RefaceAI to swap your face in GIF. The application is available on Android / iOS and is very simple to use, as long as you take a selfie and choose GIF, the application will create a GIF that replaces the original face with your face.
You can "quite" peace of mind use this application Doublicat to create interesting GIF images because the CEO responsible for developing Doublicat application has stated that they do not rely on 3D models on the face. your. "The application processes people's photos and deletes them immediately. We only store embedded faces - vector representations of facial features - that we don't share with anyone."
