Why are there so many orphaned versions of this tablet? I just want to put a custom rom on this thing.
I have a Galaxy tab (T-Mobile sgh-t849) is there any cm version work for that?
I see some folks mention Overcome. Any suggestions on where to start as far as recovery and I might be able to go from there. Also, what versions of what ROMs can be installed on mine? I have yet to see anything related to the mentioned model.
NVM, I'll post this in Q&A so it doesn't clutter the dev thread
T849 is exactly like a P1000.
Whatever you read about P1000 applies to you.

I Recently buyed me an galaxy tab, and i rooted it with z4root and i removed stock home launcher from the rom, and now i decide to make a factory reset.
I rebooted the tab and then after boot i cant do anything ! I dont have any launcher! How do i fix this ?
Thnx: Modstar
Start by posting in the right section : General
First off, wrong forum, should be in general.
Find Rotos thread and follow the instructions carefully.
Sent from my mind. Or a Galaxy Tab
Yes, wrong forum, but just to get you in the right direction:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894763 Is the pre-rooted firmware from rotohammer, you will need this.
Secondly: I recommend the Overcome kernel and rom for your tab, as it's very stable and pretty much just a great rom. You can find it here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894763
In the second thread, go down to the section "IF your Tab does not boot after flashing the kernel and hangs at the Samsung Galaxy Tab screen, you must follow the following procedure" section of the original post and follow the direction exactly as stated.
Okey sorry about that i posted it in wrong section.
Thnx for the answers but i want it to be as if i buyed it from the store.
Than you will have to find the stock rom that came with your device... and depending on the exact model that could vary.

Hi, I am new with my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7'' 3G+Wifi, with 2.3.3. What do you recommend to me: keep this one, Overcome, or Honeycomb alpha. Please, anyone knows what is the different between CDMA and GSM ROMs? Thanks!

welcome to the hood brother in tab ..
your 1st welcome will be . pls post any thread endup with "?" "Q" in the Q|A section and do not post anything in the DEV section only if you plan to create ROM , Kernel
Welcome aboard.
Also state what carrier you have.
GSM is ATT TMOUS
Sprint, Veriz , Boost are CDMA
I love the Overcome rom, works well for what I want.
Thanks for the answers. My carrier is Orange, from Spain, but I don't know if it helps. I would like to flash Overcome but I don't know how begin. I have experience with Nexus One and Hero, but this seems very different.
Overcome is pretty stable compared to honeycomb. Try it first!
Sent from my GT-P1000L using XDA Premium App
GSM phones use sim cards, CDMA need to be activated on the network and can't be transferred to another carrier easily if at all.
Don't know much about the CDMA as Australia got rid of CDMA a few years ago now...
GSM tabs have a larger choice of roms and kernals to try while the CDMA brothers and sister seem fairly restricted in what they can flash. They, however seem to be ahead when it comes to flashing Honeycomb...
ATM Honeycomb is an Alpha buiild, VERY buggy and not really usable if you need your tab in real life, Gingerbread on the other hand has been fairly stable for a while now. Up to you what you want to put on but before you do, READ the instructions on using ODIN or Heimdall, there are guides here.
Check if you're bootloaders are locked here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888071 Before flashing
and make sure you take it slow, step by step and DON'T skip ahead when flashing.
Happy hunting for that perfect rom ( please don't ask what people think as Its really a personal choice and the threads have more than enough info for you to make a choice).
Cheers...
Under my kernel version it says 2.6.35.11 and there is no K or anything letters. How do I know what kernel version I have? I am trying to root. I've done it to my last few phones but this one is seeming more difficult and the directions are more mixed and complex.
Go ahead and post a pic of your about phone screen..just make sure to get the bottom section where its at.

That's a at&t note..they have their own forums with a different root
Oh. I am sorry. I didn't know there was a different forum for it. Thank you.

No problem...glad to help..
Dont use N7000 rooting method OR Dont use any ROM available for N7000.
This is the forum you need to follow

Thank you for the help. I was already in that "AT&T Galaxy Note I717 Android Development" forum and I had already rooted and installed a kernel and ROM on before reading this last message. I had saved this forum before the phone came out for AT&T so I wasn't aware they started a separate one. Thanks guys.
I have tried numerous roms with this tab since I have bought it, all 4.0+.
I didn't try any Gingerbread roms much, and flashed cm9 almost as soon as I bought it.
No rom remains stable without force closing every app upon launching for more than a week. Even the stable 9.1.0 CM9.
Is this a frequent problem with ICS/JB? I had the same problem with a family member's Ainol Novo Elf II, which i just shipped back for returns because of it.
Or is this problem hardware related, being that no rom will work?
Also I tried to flash Galaxy Cubed from the latest CM10, but it gave me an error.
Is there a file to restock this tablet? Such as an sbf file like some phones use?
Please don't flame me for not researching, because I tried with google, but it left a lot to be desired, and much of the info is now outdated.
Thank You for your help in advance!!
you can try EF17 stock rooted rom from this one.

Thank You! I will try that tomorrow. My tab is Verizon CDMA, that shouldn't make a difference even though that says sprint correct?
should not matter, but actually I don't have a CDMA device.
Only so far seems like that thread has the working stock rom for CDMA.
I guess you can use it just to restock, put CWM, then you can put Galaxy Cubed
Thread moved. Please post in the correct section in future.
Thanks

l am new in the rooting and installing the custom roms
i need help on every thing like updating a rom installed a lot
i am using SAMSUNG GALAXY EXHIBIT 4G
For rooting follow the guide in the first post of this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1686384
To install a rom, follow the directions in the first post of any rom you are looking at. All info is on this site, most questions have already been answered. And use the search function when you get stuck. This is how we all learned. Good luck.

First thing you have to do is install CWN recovery, you can find all the info you need in this forum.
Make sure you have the correct Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G also, this forum is for the SGH-T679. I think there are a few different versions of the Galaxy Exhibit now. You can check by going to Settings > About phone and looking at the Model number. You can also check the label that's under the battery. It will brick your phone if you flash anything from this forum and you don't have the T679! If you do have the T679 though, follow the link that @Dvarl posted to get started. The version of CWM that is linked there is kind of old, but once you install that you can use it to upgrade to one of the newer versions in the Android Development forum.
The first thing you should do once you get CWM installed is use the backup feature to make a copy of your current stock ROM in case something goes wrong!
All of the custom ROMs should already have root access included. Let us know how it goes.
