Hi, this is a really marvelous site. Very useful. I'm still learning about this side of android. I've installed 2 different custom roms.
1 Omni
2 SlimKat
With both roms i've had the same problem which is that the wifi stops working after a few days. It's impossible to enable it. I've investigated possible solutions, but i don't know enough to really be confident about what to do next. Should I:
option 1 - flash the kernel (does the kernel control the wifi drivers, etc?) If so, which kernel should I use? Can I use any Kernel? Where do I get them from? Is it done in recovery mode? Compatible with any recovery program?
option 2 - Flash the radio? Does the radio control the wifi or only the 3G/2G coms? How would I flash the radio? Where can I find the right radio?
option 3 - something else, entirely different?
Is there anybody that can advise which compatible kernels I can flash with the this ROM, etc (config below)? I'm a little lost with compatibility issues.

1: -> There has been no posts about issues on Wifi on the stock omni kernel. Yes kernel controls wifi drivers and if the kernel was broken, there would have been more reports of the issue.
2: -> Modem/radio has nothing to do with it.
3: -> Could be a hardware issue or loose connection inside the phone.

Bluetooth was always working, so it was a strange one. anyway...I took it apart and put it back together again. It didn't fully fix it, but wifi is easier to turn off and on now, ie, i don't need to reflash something to switch wifi back on. so it's a bit better.
Currently on CM111

Hi I cannot enable my bluetooth.
When turnning it on in the configuration menue
it turns from changable to greyed out and cannot be used.
I have installed the stable release of CyanogenMod7 7.1.0.
I run baseband 1035.21_20110725 Kernel: 2.6.32.45-cyanogenmod [email protected] #1
Get RIL shows: RIL 0725 /V10d, Europe Open)
Any idea what might be wrong on my Phone.
With the original ROM bluetooth works, so it cannot be a hardware issue on the phone. I have reinstalled the phone several times but no success to get bluetoth to work.
kind regards

Hello there, I had the same problem yesterday. I have tried a couple of bluetooth switches and directly from the settings, but none of them worked. I think this is a bug. I had to return to stock to get bluetooth working again. weird.

For 725 you have to flash all 4 .fls files otherwise you'll get issues like wifi not turning on.

Try wiping and installing ROM again.
Check if the correct APN is selected for your 3G connection.

I've tried that, configured the APN. It doesn't work, the signal doesn't appear to be working.
I've read about restoring /efs. What do you think about that?

Unless, you have a messed up imei there is no use restoring /efs (provided you took a backup in the first place).
Did you try wiping and reinstalling the ROM ?
Try a different modem, maybe the UBLS1 modem. Look in the asylum FAQs, there is a link in there somewhere.
If nothing works, try flashing an older nightly and see if the issue persists.
This is not Asylum ROM
It's safe to flash another modem? I'm new in this.
Update :
I flashed UBLS1 modem (https://www.hidrive.strato.com/lnk/PxORYqo0), it works perfectly!! Thank you warfareonly!
Fix that works for me
Hi.
This worked for me:
- Turn on 3G
- Put your phone on planemode
- Take your phone off planemode
Hopes it works for you too.

If you really need a reliable bluetooth connection the only real option right now is to restock and go with an ICS build. Otherwise make do, and wait until they have it worked out.
ff
i am running alroger's 10.1 4.2.2 on my P1000
i can detect other device
i can pair with other device
and was able to send files to it
how ever
after the device is paired via P1000
the other device will have it on the device list
but when i try to send file from this device to the P1000
it will not detect
and when i am trying to manually connect to P1000
it says "No profile found"

I've never really put the Bluetooth (as in AD2P or Earwigs Headphone(s)). on my GT-P1000 into any real world practice yet. So just how stable it is long-term? I know not. But, I have shot many a File mostly (*.apk's) to, and from my GT-I9000 (Galaxy S), or to my Old Man's GT-P1000 to help get his Device set up. We both have CM10 Mod Builds (i.e. Android 4.1.2), and neither of us have had any of the (Frontal) Camera, or Bluetooth problems that are being discussed here.
Mr. Icarus1314 has but, Two choices here, continue using the "SHINY SHINY" and learn to give up both his Camera, and the Bluetooth. Or revert back to a stable CM10 build. I see no benefit at all in reverting all the way down to Ice Cream Sandwich, and its persistent Navigation Bar.
Unfortunately (for us GT-P1000) Users something got broke between CM10, and the .1, and .2 Builds that remains broken still in CM11 (Android v4.4.3 Codename KitKat), and until these bugs get fixed CM10 (Android v4.1.2 Jelly Bean), is pretty much it for now.
i was trying to get the above mentioned cyanogen mod onto my phone, but got stuck somewhere along the road. Here are some system specs so someone may have a chance to figure out what it looks like right now.
firmware version: 2.3.6
Base band version: I9000XWJW1
Kernel: [email protected] # 2
Build-Number: Gingerbrad.XWJW6
so much to what the phone itself has to say - heres some info taken from CWM Manager
CWM Manager v2.0
Current Kernel: CF-Root 4.4
oh - and i updated the SuperSU which came along.
has anyone an idea how to proceed from there? i read a lot about getting cyanogen mod - including some mentions that the recent 10.1 build to android 4.2.1 (or was it 4.2.2 ?? ) would work on the i9000 - but i cant figure out what to do from here - i´m getting confused about all the build numbers and so on - it would be nice if someone could point out to me which build numbers and updates to look for exactly.
Thx

CM is a custom ROM for your i9000. You can update your phone with this ROM to enjoy the latest Android OS like 4.0 (IceCream Sandwich), 4.1 & 4.2 (Jelly Bean). Samsung has stopped supporting us with any further updates post 2.3.6 which was Gingerbread Value Pack. If you are interested in flashing you stock ROM to taste new OS, follow this links:
1. Install ICS: Installing Ice-cream Sandwich 4.0.4 On Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000
2. Install JB: Installing Jelly Bean 4.1 on Galaxy S GT-I9000
ENJOY
my thx to you - finally - an understandable guide!
jey there - it worked.
now i just need to figure out how to update to a recent build? do you perhaps know where i can manually download the new package? the auto updater doesnt seem to work...
i chose the cm10 fishears build mentioned in the links above.
thx

The recent CM runs on 4.2.2, you can flash the latest nightly from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2039755
thx - that did work as well.
didnt think it was that easy - all the other guides in the net were throwing around lots of strange build numbers and didnt offer much in the way of a guideline - beeing able to rely on you guys for information really saved my day. ^^
Great to hear that you liked the guide and did flash successfully. Hit thanks if that really helped you...
I need some clarification regarding android and radio baseband.
I'm running latest cm-11 nightly and my baseband version is XXUEMK1
Is this radio included in the cyanogenmod ROM or is it a separate partition that wont get updated with a ROM flash?
I've found the thread with a list of different radio ROMS for the i9305. Are these optimized for different countries or will they work regardless of country?
Is there a way to backup my current radio if I want to try a different radio and need to revert? XXUEMK1 is not listed in the thread with all the ROMS.
Found some information in another tread:
Baseband / Modem / Radio - This is the software that manages your connection to wireless networks, be that voice or data. Unlike unrooted users, you can download and flash any number of i9300 (Versions for other models WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE) or i9305 radios pulled from official ROMs. I wouldn't waste too much time on them. Usually what your official ROM comes with in your country / for your carrier, is the most optimised for you. Try a few by all means but don't waste time testing every last one.
Be aware that Samsung official ROMs come with a baseband. Often this means Samsung based custom ROMs may also do so. Some ROMs which install using the Aroma installer (A kind of set-up wizard) may give the option to not flash the baseband. AOSP ROMs almost never come with a baseband. When you flash a ROM withotu a baseband, the previous baseband remains. You can by all means, mix and match ROMs and basebands. You are not tied to the baseband with the same build number as the ROM. For example, if you are on XXEMB1 ROM, you definitely do NOT have to stay on the XXEMB1 baseband.
