So the odd requirement of being locked into using s-voice for the OK Google Voice Search thing was annoying me. I found that if you go into system/priv-app and remove the "Velvet for T" apk and replace it with the normal "Velvet" apk (I pulled the one I used out of one of PA's gapps packages) and fix permissions to r-w-r-r, and reboot you can use ok Google without having to rely on svoice.
When I tried simply freezing svoice, the option to use ok Google from any screen was grayed out, but when you follow my steps above you'll be good. Hope that made sense.

google search keeps force closing
this is odd...
after uninstalling bing and installing google search from market it was working fine for a while (1-2 days)
now whenever i type more than 2 characters into the google search box it force closes.
tried uninstalling / reinstalling and clearing the app's data- no dice.
also tried with email history enabled and with it disabled.
any ideas?
I have mine working OK, but not with the Voice Search from the market. What I found was that the Voice Search from the market did not fully integrate with maps, etc (like saying: "Navigate to" came up with some ridiculous kbbb or something else, and speaking for an instant message was hideous).
I renamed the BingSearch.apk and the Bing service apk (can't remember the exact name) in the /System/Data directory (I'm rooted). I pulled the Voice Search APK out of a 2.2 ROM (specifically from my old device - Eris) from the System/Data directory and installed that (uninstalling the market version first). It integrated fully with EVERYTHING, but as of now, like you, my physical Search button doesn't work.
My search Button doesn't work with bing either lol. Straight outta the box. Nothing.

i'm rooted too. wish my google search would work when i hit the search soft key
This isn't for Google Search but it was posted for using the search to bring up the phone. Better than not being functional at all and you may be able to figure out how to make it Google Search.
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/lg...val-breaks-search-button-requires-rooted.html
The problem with that is it changes the functionality of the Search button entirely. For some, that may work, but in certain applications, that button is still a method to search (like root explorer).

Its not the app. I just went through this when I got the Charge. Go to your Google dashboard and go to speech and click anonymize recognition. This deletes the voice recordings stored from your previous phone. Mine was coming up with kkkkk stuff when I first got the Charge. I guess different devices pick up your speech in a different manner. Try it and see if that fixes your issue.

EDIT: Cancel that, I uninstalled and reinstalled Touchless control from the Play Store and everything appears to be working!
I just got my phone rooted on the latest stock VZW build using rockmymoto. I had played around with the new 4.4 apk's and launcher, but decided to go back to Nova. I did have trouble with Google search force closing, so I replaced the velvet.apk in system\app and changed the permissions. I went through and did everything I could to get all the stock apps back. It looks like the velvet.apk in there now is correct. The only other thing I changed was the lib file that was supposed to fix the FCs, and recently installed the Xposed framework (no modules). Now when I attempt to search via Touchless Control, a.k.a. "OK Google Now", a small popup says "Opening Google Search", and nothing happens. Ideas?
Also, if I do a factory data reset, will I lose root (it's OK if I do), and/or will anything get messed up?

just got my x2 pro and i am having trouble in turning on "swipe left for google now feed" feature. have never used color os before so i am clueless. please help me out.
It is very possible the Feed is not on that launcher. You may need to install a third party launcher to do that.

i got it working perfectly but it took some time to get it to work right.
i am using nova/nova prime and downloaded the nova google companion apk from teslacoils website.
this is what i did in this order:
download nova(and nova prime if you have it)
use adb to uninstall the stock launcher(com.oppo.launcher)for swipe gesture controls to work you can only use the back on left or right bottom selection
use adb to uninstall the oem browser (com.nearme.browser)
use adb to uninstall athena (com.coloros.athena)<--- once you remove this when going to recent app you will have to swipe them away manually to close the X will not close them
use adb to uninstall (com.oppo.quicksearchbox)
then go to google and type in nova google companion (should see a link to download the apk) install it
give nova/nova prime/companion all autostart/background running permissions
it should work after those steps are followed. also the good new is once the athena is removed notifications come through without issue for 3rd party apps (facebook/instagram/snapchat etc) just have to give all permissions to display (autostart is only allowed for 5 non system apps) bust since athena is gone even the apps that i dont have autostarting are coming through without delay.
hope this helps!!!
Hi guys,
I'm getting a problem related to the chinese variant. And it's really irritating, i hope you can help as this is really popular and discussed a lot.
-Google assistant won't stay the default assist app.
-Access with voice match is greyed out.
-when i make google the default assist app, google is greyed out as seen in the third screenshot.
-weirdly enough i don't have default assist app anywhere in settings, I can only access it from google (first screeshot)
I already have disabled breeno stuff and some chinese stuff except breeno space.
I tried some solutions online from deleting cache to re-installing google, but the issue is rom related.
What i haven't tried is unlocking bootloader and rooting then making the assistant a system app. So what I'm trying to say is did anyone have it working like a charm, and how??
Unfortunately that's what the rom does. The only way I had made it to work is using tasker..
My first approach was for event when the secure config was changed tasker will change it back to Google. But this doesn't seem to work all the time.
My second approach was to create a shortcut that set the assistant and then launches the app. See screenshot.

Man this is irritating, using tasker for an assistant ?? this reminds me of an old tcl tv I have running android 4.4 and no matter what I do i can't get apps to function correctly on there
I tried making it a system app. Didnt work. still greyed out. I used android terminal App systemizer
It moved the whole folder to system/apps. I also tried system/priv-apps. But its weird that i can still uninstall google from the app drawer.

I really hope someone got it working
Hi everybody,
following an update of my smartphone today via OTA, google play and youtube no longer works. Do you have any idea where it might come from?
FYI, a few weeks ago I deactivated a good number of applications via ADB but I had no problem so far.
Hi tomtom34,
Have you tried setting your timezone and date manually? Sometimes this can help. I just got the update but have not encountered any issues yet.

I've noticed this too! I had to put back com.vivo.pem for it to work, but it seems to work if you do manual sync of google account, clear google play cache, reboot 2 times then open google play and wait a few moments, then it springs back into life and with com.vivo.pem disabled (the way we like it).
Strange, I know, happened again today after another nighly update.

Annoyingly, all google apps stopped working for me again today after it ha been working for a while. Had to activate com.vivo.pem, restart phone (and deactivated pem again as we want it) and the google apps work again, will see for how long this time...

Google seems to have settled down but since updating to OceanOs notifications are much worse. I had working before (not perfectly) WhatsApp and FB Msg notifications but it seems even with pem removed, app permissions set and batt optimisation for apps set it is still deciding to close apps.
Perhaps it's iManager? (We cant disable that now) or whatever app tells us it's closed this.. or blocked pop-ups from that.. But I feel that is prob iManager.
Is there a specific reason vivo app should be removed?

Notifications working ok now, I had not realised the basic notification setting in the app(s) were set to none (No chat notification at all) So many settings.... anyway, wasn't an OceanOS issue.

@pwnedphone GMS stopped working again, now I cant get GMS without PEM installed
I used the uninstall cmd on PEM (vs disable) and GMS remained on (even after a few reboots), hoping it stays that way. Notifications appear to be working again.

Okay, thank you for the info. Google apps (and notifications) have been working for me since the last disabling of PEM, but i haven't dared to restart the phone since then...
Did you ever experienced google disconnection after firmware update: I mean after an official update (2 in this month) Google Play Services seem to "freeze" (no notifications from apps) and if I try to disconnect my Google account I cannot login again for a variable period of time (Google server unreachable).
