On the FAQ thread it says that you can root the Moto G 2014 with this thread, but the file file doesn't exist any more and the thread is locked. So how can I root the phone now? I have the XT1068 model.
[Recovery][Titan] TWRP 2.8.0.1 for Moto G 2014
Or, if you prefer cwm
[Recovery][Titan] CWM PhilZ Touch 6 for Moto G 2014
For root go here:
[STABLE][2014.10.25] SuperSU v2.16

I think you've installed the wrong recovery. You need to flash TWRP for XT107X (thea) not for XT106X (titan)
Here the correct link : https://dl.twrp.me/thea/
Hope it works now.
I unlocked my moto g2 (2014) XT1068 (marshmello) bootloader and also flashed the TWRP recovery and superSU. But the root checker ssays its still not rooted. I tried flashing the latest SuperSU again. But now the phone doesn't boost. It can go to bootloader and TWRP recovery but still not booting. The adb sideload is also not working properly. Any help in fixing it?
You have to flash another kernel since marshmallow, there are enough topics for your problem

LineageOS does not have root by default, you have to flash LineageOS and then flash SuperSU.zip in TWRP or flash Magisk in TWRP. Flashing Magisk in TWRP is a better option than flashing SuperSU.
