[Q] Pulled my phone out of my pocket, it was hard bricked - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Newb here. My HTC One M7 is hard bricked. LED doesn't turn on when I plug the charger into it. Tried holding pwr and vol-down, and all three buttons at once for two minutes. Nothing and I don't know what to do so I came here. I searched for threads on how to fix it but all I'm finding are fixes for bricks that were caused by rooting. I haven't rooted mine- it's still stock except for a SIM unlock I got about a year ago- so I don't know if those fixes are applicable to me or not.
So, my questions are, are there any threads that might be able to help me? If not, can anyone tell me wtf I can do to fix this? I don't want to end up sending it off to get repaired since I'm out of warranty at this point.
Edit: I should add that I have a Mac, not a PC. I'm out of warranty and I didn't get insurance. I'm probably SOL but figured I'd ask anyway.

Thanks, that was one I found. Perhaps this is a dumb question but that requires a linux machine, does it not? I don't have a linux OS nor any experience with that.

So at this point, I've created a usb boot stick with ubuntu, so I got that going for me. Next step, where do I find the appropriate package referenced in step 1 of Dexter's steps?

Now at this point, I've been able to extract the package and run the revive.sh command on the terminal. However, I get an error message saying that a bricked "device can't be found, check connections, aborting." Any advice?

Thanks anyway. I just figured out that my phone is in QDL mode so it appears that Dexter's unbricking method won't work. Back to square 1.

So i just updated to an SPL for a Hero ROM, and now i'm stuck on the t-mobile G1 screen, i can get to the console, but if someone can walk me through how to mount the SD card using ADB (from the very begining) it would be a great help. This way i can try to update the firmware, or resort back to the original radio/spl/firmware. I need a very easy to understand set of instructions, because every time i have tried to do something with ADB it never goes well.
all you need to do is re-flash your current rom your using no wipe needed.
Whats the command to do that, i've been trying to load the new ROM onto the SD card through the command prompt. and it doesn't seem to want to work.
Bassicly i use the adb push command to try and shove a ROM on to the SD card like this
adb push JAChero2.0r6.zip /sdcard/JACHero2.0r6.zip
and then i change the name to update.zip and it still applies the OLD SPL update.zip file i have in there.
Try removing the old update file first through the adb shell. I have run into a couple instances where it is doing what you are describing. I always found that removing the current file first will resolve it.
adb shell
# rm /sdcard/update.zip
# exit
adb push JAChero2.0r6.zip /sdcard/update.zip
Then try to flash the update through recovery.
Got it fixed, THANKS!
im stuck at g1 screen as well....what did you do to fix this?
Im stuck on G1 boot screen, cannot get into FBOOT or anything!

Will it cost me if I contact tmo?
I'll play it dumb, but when the phone ends up at some engineer, and they see what I've flashed on, will they just fix it, or report it to tmo? (as i've broken the t&c's!)
As much as having a paperweight sounds cool, I could really do with a phone!
BTW, thanks for your help!

If the phone won't boot using home + camera then they can't prove it's been rooted (unless they somehow read the nand...) so they should replace it for you without charge.. Same thing could happen if the battery was pulled during an over-the-air update.
they wont bother checking anything, just be sure it is bricked and your good. Most likely they just take it apart and jtag it or something like that. And if you got the phone from tmo and are with them then no its free.

Yep, it wont boot using any key-combo.
Its reading the NAND/using JTAG which is what I'd do (i work with embedded devices!).
I might say the battery died while the update was happening, gotta act dumb! (which I must be for managing to brick it in anycase, after all, Im a softy-eng!)
And I'll get a new phone! Or reconditioned?
Many thanks ppl!

i was unlocking my phone (the HTC Touch Pro 2 <sprint>) and I was using a Diamond unlocker , but during the process there was a connection error and now my phone seems to be bricked. I can't get it to even turn on, get to a bootloader screen, or anything even remotely close.
The one odd thing that it does though, is when I connect it to my computer, it pops up and my computer recognizes there is a device there. In my Device Manager there is an unknown device called: Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM. I have tried every combination of two buttons, including holding down the reset button with all of them, but nothing gets me anywhere.
If anyone could help, I would really appreciate it. there's eny way to save it???

[SOLVED] Return to stock (unroot) without USB or without a computer (non-RUU method)?

Hey guys, please forgive me if I misuse my terminology here but I am still a padawan learner.
My wife's hero is rooted and running a cyanogen rom. All was well for months but now her usb plug is broken and NOT charging. I have not yet verified that the usb won't talk to the pc but I assume it's the case because I can't get the thing to charge. Of course i have tried 5 or 6 diff chargers, tried wiggling, etc. but i am convinced that there is a broken prong in the phones plug. The phone is under warranty for 2 more days but I understand that I need to flash it back to stock before trying warranty stuff.
I have searched and the answers I have found are to simply run the latest RUU from the htc website. I found it, no problem, but it is an .exe file and would require the usb to work, right? The phone is dead right now or i would test the usb>pc connection and I have arranged to briefly borrow a friend's battery later tonight. If i can't get the connection to work is there any other way to flash this thing back to stock? If I just download a stock rom and flash that then i will still be rooted right? Do they check that? and lastly what about running an OTA update? Any advice/ideas are greatly appreciated.
Come to think of it, I might have the original naandroid backup that i did of the phone back in the day. If i restore this, would it go back to stock?
Here's what you can do:
Go HERE and download the S-OFF bootloader.
Flash it
Download THIS - its the zip that gets uploaded/flashed when you run the RUU.
And..as per instructions on that page:
Simply rename this to HERCIMG.zip and place on the root of your SDCard.
Power your phone completely off.
Press and Hold VOL DOWN and POWER until your phone boots into HBoot mode.
Wait for it to verify the zip, then click <ACTION> (Trackball) to update, or <SEND> (Green Call) to cancel.
After it flashes you'll have a stock phone, with the stock bootloader
Its the same setup I have on my phone..Just in case I need to un-root on the fly Except I have two zips. One with the stock bootloader and one without so I can keep it unlocked.
Gotta love XDA, thanks so much. I may have found it if I had thought about searching for "stock sprint zip format". Hopefully the next guy will find this. I have been helped by your advice many times throughout the forums in my searches.

Or do you know where i can chat now that AOSP is no longer running an online chat room (as far as I know)?

i tried this! it was on the updating part and when it was almost done, the htc screen appear and it started all over with s-off. so it said fail.
Just curious, if phone is already activated to her # then why go back to horrible stock.
If u want a stock ROM flash liquid sense or nfx.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=643
From either of those two ROMs u can do all that stock can.. like activation, PRL updates, etc.....
So unless its going for service under warranty there is no need to unroot to stock.
Good luck

[Q] Ok I got myself into a huge problem

Please take in mind that i am 18, and that i might not understand technical terms..
So i am one to like to try different kinds of custom ROMS on my captivate because, quite frankly, the stock ROM is terrible. Last year i flashed Cognition V.2 but i eventually got tired of it, so i switched to Cappy's GingerBread ROM, but did not like how much battery life it used. SO seeing that Cognition had come out with V.3 a couple weeks later, i decided to try and flash that ROM. And this is where the problems began...
AS you might know, the most common way to flash roms is to use ROM manager, and when i transferred the file to my phone and selected "Install ROM from SD card." Normally the phone would restart and then go into recovery mode..that did not happen. It just stayed on the ATT start up screen. So i reluctantly pulled out the battery after waiting on it for an hour.
This is when i realized that i could not enter recovery mode at all! ive tried the volume button trick along with trying apps that send your phone directly into recovery mode..oh and i also tried using terminal emulator and sending a command to my phone to reboot into recovery mode, THAT did not work.
So after that I decided as a somewhat last resort, i tried the hard reset, (where you dial a number in and it factory resets your phone.) Which was appearantly was the worst idea i could have ever done because now when i boot up my phone it will get past the ATT screen but now my lock screen will randomly turn on and off by itself, like i cannot unlock it, the screen will repeatedly turn itself on...then off every 5 or so seconds.
I am so confused on what i am to do, and im sorta stressing out about this point in time. So please if one of you educated forum readers know how to fix my terrible mistakes, the help would be EXTREMELY appreciated.
Thank you

look for odin one click with the 3button fix, get virtual box or boot camp, get windows 7 preferably but xp is ok, get drivers, add the phone in donwload mode to the device list on the virtual machine and then you should be able to odin flash from the virtual mache. i have done it in linux but i have also had problems getting it to mount the phone in the virtual machine with a different linux install, i still dont know what the problem was or if you will have problems on the mac.

bionic ... new chalange

Ok guys ... this is the problem ...:crying:
I have (had) a Droid Bionic running ics leak 232 in Brazil (GSM/UMTS ... thanks to xda developers - "bionic in t mobile" thread).
While messing around with the phone connected to linux (baaad idea) at some point I deleted the bootloader ("happy finger" + lack of knowledge os linux).
Now, my phone doesnt power up and RSD Lite doesnt recognize it when connected but, when I connect it to the PC, a green light lits at the top right corner of the phone and Windows recognize it, at the device manager, as a OMAP4430 USB under TI Board tab. This leads me to think that some kind of life still exists down there or, the hardware is alive and waiting for the right software.
After a long quest for a solution, I found this: "forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f634/unbrick-dead-samsung-gt-i9250-galaxy-nexus-gt-i9100g-via-usb-cable-freeeeeeeeeeee-1465412/index9.html".
Now I think this is the way out of this mess (is the same hardware, OMAP platform from Texas Instrument), if exists any, but this was made for Samsung, by Samsung technicians, and doesnt apply to Motorola. :crying: again.
So, is there anyone who can help me, or have any idea of what can be done (other than trow it away or use it as a paper weight)?
Any help would be most appreciated.
Regards
I saw you haven't had any replies yet. My roommate had a similar problem, he managed to mount his system partition automatically and thought his SD card was partitioned into 10 or more partitions.
So he reformated the mount and had a dead phone right after, said he only got a small white light on his notification light when plugged in.
I didn't get a chance to check it out before he took it to Verizon for a refurb, so sadly I'm not much help. Just thought I'd input anything I knew since you still had an empty thread. Hope it comes back alive!

Have you tried using the command line version of moto-fastboot? It might work, but might not work... I think you need to boot into fastboot mode, but I could be wrong... Either way it's worth a try.
Also, does anything happen when you try to hold down the vol+ and VOL- buttons when powering on the phone?

Thank you for your answer danifunker;
The phone is dead. Pressing buttons does nothing. The only thing that happens is to lit the notification green light at the top right corner of the screen WHEN a plug it in my PC and windows keep telling me this is a unknown device. I unsuccessfully used OMAPFlash, but installing the usb drives that came with it, when I plug it to the PC, windows device manager shows me a new device "OMAP4430 USB" under a new tab "TI Board" , whitch is not recognized by RDS lite or adb or fastboot. Is only recognized by OMAPFlash. If you dont know about OMAPFlash, I found it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1701471 , but this procedure is for a Samsung, witch uses the same platform (OMAP4430), but I dont have the right configurations for the Droid Bionic.

Can you explain exactly how you deleted the bootloader off of the Bionic? Knowing EXACTLY (what you ran, what you typed) what you did will help us help you.
As an aside, I had no idea there was a SGSII-OMAP variant, but I am not big on the Samsung phones, just assumed they've only been using their own SoCs for a while now...
Hi podspi.
Sorry for the delay.
As a matter of fact, wasnt me that bricked the phone. A friend o mine tryed to flash a gelly beam version, and did it via Fastboot,, under Linux (of witch I know almost notingh).
He told me that the problem was that he made:
fastboot erase mbm
and then
fastboot reboot bootloader
and so the bootloader was lost. He missed a step.
Any help will be greatly aprecieted.
Regards
IOW, since the mbm has been erased, and the mbmflashable hasn't been flashed, there is no way to get it into the bootmenu sceen anymore, right?
Hmmm. Let me ask some other folks too.

I wonder if a factory cable would work to get it to flash mode? Why would you even mess with the bootloader trying to install ICS? You do that through recovery, not fastboot.
I was on ICS ... This was an attempt to get it to JellyBeen ... I, also, dont know why. I was perfectly happy with ICS working in GSM/WCDMA. This is why I am so sad ... It was a very stupid thing to do ... As a matter of fact, I will get a factory cable, but I dont think this is gonna help. Anyways, I am keeping it by side to remember me not to mess with things that are working fine. I'm kind of losing hope that it can fixed.

I think we need to figure out how you flash mbm back onto there. Actually, I think it's mbmloader that you need on there...
mbm = Motorola Boot Manager (?) maybe.
After reading this page: http://omappedia.org/wiki/Bootloader_Project
I believe, mbm = uboot, mbmloader = x-loader
Just found this page... http://www.droid-developers.org/wiki/How_to_load_mbmloader_from_SD_card
download the SBF and grab the mbmloader for ICS. See if you can get a little further...
SamuriHL sHouse of Bionic restored mine when all I could get was fastboot.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
It won't help this. It needs to be flashed at the omap level and since moto isn't about to release the configuration files for the Bionic you can consider this one permanently bricked.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 2
I tend to agree with SamuriHL. I was thinking that the configuration souldn't be so diferent than others (like Samsung) that uses the same platform (omap). I know that it's naive, but what else could I do. Also, I need the signed files for x-loader and u-boot, of witch I think danifunker is right, this means mbm and mbmloader, that I have, but they came in bin format and not image format (.img). I will try to convert them to .img, but I am at the end of my resources (not that they are so many), and will give up shortly. At this point (giving up), I will buy another cellphone AND IT WONT BE A MOTOROLA, Probably a HTC or a Samsung. But I will keep Bionic at my desktop, as a paperweight, to remind me how I liked it, how I mess things up.
Anyways, if I manage to solve this problem, I will post here, and I wish to thank everyone that spare their time to try to help people. If anyone have any suggestion, I'll be glad to follow.
If you modify them in any way they'll no longer be signed and won't work. Someone else already went through several weeks of trying to fix their phone that had similar issues. He's well connected and still couldn't get the necessary files. Don't necessarily give up on Moto, though...it's not their fault we're stuck with locked bootloaders. Blame VZW for that one. Even Samsung was forced to lock the S3 on VZW. Things may change some day. We'll have to wait and see.
You can always get RAZR i with the unlockable bootloader! that might make things a bit easier...

Well, I'm attaching 2 zip files. One is omapflash and the other is "THE FILES", and instructions on the "release_notes.txt". This works on LINUX.
And works like a charm. Took me (much) less than 5 minutes to get me from a dead phone to bootloader fastboot. And the rest is history. Well known procedures.
Thanks to all of you that helped or tryed to help.
Enjoy.

Can we use this method to flash any firmware to the phone? Lets say you load the latest ICS, maybe we use this method which restores the most original bootloader to the phone and then flash to any version?
Which version did you fastboot to?

Guys. My phone is alive again. Thanks to FRAGULINA and PICGRABBER for their unvaluable help. It is now running GSM with data enabled (3G) with ICS 232, rooted, thanks to FRAGULINA and HTCFlyerX ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31101192&highlight=build+prop#post31101192).
Enjoy.
To those who have an interest in new challanges (as I know you are), i'm opening a new quest and would appreciate your thoughts.
I have at hand an atrix 2 and I want to find where in hell is the subsidy code writen at and how can I read it. This new quest will be at the proper location at the atrix 2 forum.
I think we won this challange. Lets go for another.
Any doubts I am available to help.
Regards.

Help on htc one (M7)(GSM) revive from hard bricked state

my htc one (M7) (GSM) got hard bricked on its own (i never rooted it or anything), it shows up as QHSUSBDLOAD or something in the device manager in windows 8.1
i found this link to revive my phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770684
I am a total noob and i know nothing about rooting or flashing roms or anything for that matter (i just think my phone is hard bricked because someone told me if it comes up as QHSUSBDLOAD in the dev manager, it means it is hard bricked). There is no response if i hold the power button, or the power and volume buttons under a bright light or not under a bright light, i tried charging it continuously for 5 days, nothing happened, LED is not flashing. Only when i connect it to windows via a usb cable, it recognised it as an unknown device, when i updated the driver, it showed QHSUSBDLOAD.
This link (same as above): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770684
worked for many people. i'm a noob so can anyone please elaborate and give me a full detailed process on how to go about it. Again, i never ever rooted my phone.
And its out of the warranty period, and i dont really know what a jtag box is, but i heard it involves opening up your phone, and i really dont wanna do that. But, if theres a method of using jtag via a usb cable and reviving my phone without opening it up, then plz tell me that too.
otherwise, just elaborate on the same link ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770684)
and explain it to me like u would to a noob.
THANK YOU!!!!
Any help is appreciated.

First line of the guide:
This will fix devices which were bricked due to firmware incompatibility. This can be caused with the way HTC handles the firmware updates in it's m7's OTAs. If you've been flashing from a 3.x firmware to a 5.x firmware via OTA, or manually, you most likely have a device stuck in QHSUSB_DLOAD. This tool is for you

Doesnt apply to your situation:

Device entering QHSUSB DLOAD mode by themselves are usually devices with hardware problem and this guide won't fix anything. You'll probably have to replace the motherboard of your phone. You should however give this guide a try just to confirm its indeed an hardware problem. Just follow steps by steps and ask questions when you are stuck.

thanks for the reply.
First of all, i don't know what all this is:
the appropriate package for the device
fastboot
distro utils: md5sum, strings, tail, grep, unzip ( all included in most linux distros)
some basic linux experience
root access on a linux machine
I've never touched Linux EVER. Only thing i know is that it's an operating system.
IF you have the time, can u please tell me:
1) ''which version'' of Linux i should install (is it 64 bit and 32 bit too?)
2) from where should i install it
3) how should i install it
4) what Ubuntu is. is it some form of linux. Can it be used in this case? If yes, then how?
5) what fastboot, distro utils, root access on linux means.
6) can linux be installed side by side on my windows pc along with the windows i already have? then how?
7) what all this means-
Boot the linux box and download the appropriate package for the device.
Remove the sim card from the phone. Do not connect yet
Extract the package in your working directory
Open up a terminal and cd to that directory
Run revive.sh as root and connect the device
Code:
sudo ./revive.sh
( i mean, i know how to remove the sim card, but whats a linux box?, how do you extract the package?, how to open u a terminal, what is a terminal?, how to open up a cd to that directory, which cd? how to "run revive .sh as root", what the code sudo ./revive.sh means and how and where do i use it?)
Thank You.
BTW, is there any way to tell for sure whether my problem is in the hardware or in the software?
