When I go to the quick settings view by scrolling down with 2 fingers, the top left tile shows an outlined picture of a person, indicating a picture should go there. When I click on it, it says the contact doesn't exist. I'm just curious what this is for, and how I get it to work.
Also, as a side question, how to people know the temp of their battery?

1. People>All Contacts>Me enter your gmail address here
2. Google+>Settings>Account Settings (your gmail address)>Contacts>Keep contacts up to date (check this)
3. Your G+ profile photo will now appear since you linked your G+ profile to your local phone owner contact

Thanks!
its a terribke shame
That the Moto developera didnt think to have it promot you once you tap on the blank picture this first time. And while im at it, why woukd they not enable customizations to the quick settings pull down menu??? Oh well.
NookMonkey's method works nicely, but be warned it will override any custom contact photos you have for people with their G+ photo (which to me is annoying).

Is there a way to select which service to use for a contact's picture. On my phone it seems to be twitter > gtalk > facebook. But I want to use the facebook pictures. any help?
I done know of a way to do it for all your contacts at once, but when you edit a contact you will see all available images for them and tapping on one of them will select it as their main pic.

Holy crap... I didn't know we could do that! So downloading the Twitter app and adding someone's Twitter username to their contact adds that pic as an option too?
Wish I could delete a post. Thought I was editing. :-\

It doesn't work out of the box. You will need to use 'SyncMyPix' from the Play Store to retrieve and assign the pics.
PS: If you get a login / session invalid error in SyncMyPix, just logout once and login again -- it works then.
With Haxsync 2.3.0 you are able to sync HD images and select Facebook HD photos by default

I am trying to figure out why in my contacts they about a quarter of them show facebook information with the facebook picture attached to the contact picture, and then the rest of them do not show the facebook picture but when i go into edit on the contact at the bottom shows some information like their full name from facebook, phone number and email, also showing an exclamation point with "Facebook contact information is not editable on this device" which I believe is normal. How would I get this person's picture to show when the phone already thinks the facebook account is joined? Oh and when I try to join it the person does not show up in the join list.
Unrelated question: Does anyone know a fix for slow app scrowling in 2.2 STOCK froyo? the 3D effect is nice but when I had a launcher from the market it would scroll with one swipe of my finger from the top to bottom, now the same swipe would get me just a couple rows down.
Thanks everyone
Facebook syncing
In facebook people have first and last name, If you want them to sync properly edit the contacts information to match facebook name, and that should clean things up. If not let me know.
Thats the one thing about the HD2 I liked... You can manually match your contacts with your facebook contacts. I don't think you can do that with the N1, unless you know what all of your friends facebook ID numbers are.
My contacts already are named just as they are in facebook.they have facebook information at the bottom of the edit contacts area. Just no picture.. how do I fix this?

You can do that with Android, too.
-> Go to contacts
-> Choose the contact you want to assign a Facebook-account to
-> Hit the menu botton and "Edit"
-> While in "edit mode" hit the menu button again and there should be a "Join" button
-> It should suggest some Facebook contacts
Attention! though, some user report, that this can change the name of the contact. Before saving make sure the contact is filed under the name you want (by editing the name if necessary).
You can revert this operation the same way but chose "Seperate" if you joined two contacts that don't fit anymore.

If the contacts fb info is already linked to the correct contact in your phone book and its just now showing the pic, you can tell google to use it manually by;
- Going to the contact without the image, click in to there contact card and select edit from the menu.
- Then scroll down to the facebook section part of the contact info and click the profile pic shown
- a dialog should show up with the option "Use this photo"
Select that and it *should* add the image as the contacts profile pic.
If its that the accounts simply aren't linking, ensuring they had the same name worked for me, but i imagine if your still having no luck with that, the manual join described by the guy above should do the trick.
Hope that helps
Fixed by restoring phone.

If you check "use all contacts" in stock phone contacts app, the pictures appear.
I recently rooted my VZW 4.4 non-DE, and the only problem I'm seeing is that my "me" contact has vanished. I first noticed the issue in my quick settings pulldown. There is a tile in the top left, but it's just a stock cartoon image of a head. If I click it, i get the message "The contact does not exist." If I go into the "people" app, there is a tiny "ME" in text at the very top, but there is no actual contact that I can access at all.
Any ideas? (Prior to root, it was working just fine.)
EDIT: I'm seeing that logging into Google+ might do the trick. I'll give that a shot.
For anyone having this issue, on the newer OS, you must have installed Google+ and SYNC at least once, the you can prevent it from syncing after.
of course, you must have a google+ profile correctly configured and tied to your phone gmail account.
My HTC's always just grabbed contact pictures from facebook, google+ etc etc, I didn't really expect the moto to use facebook (though it would be nice) but even the g+ contacts don't use their profile pictures.

I continue to have the problem where the Facebook profile pictures for all of my linked contacts in my Favorite group, which also happen to be the default group of the People widget on my home screen, keep disappearing like the user has no picture. It seems that anytime I link a contact with both Facebook and Google accounts, the Google picture overrides the Facebook picture, which for the ones that keep disappearing look to have no Google picture. Then when I go into any setting on my phone that is supposed to show a Facebook profile picture, it is blank, but when I go directly into the Facebook app, their picture shows! I've now also noticed that my Google+ profile picture is blank, when it used to show up in Contacts and on the drop down setting menu User Card.
I can't count how many times I've hard reset, but every time, eventually, the pictures start to disappear and it is random and not always the same people. I'm using the stock OS on the Verizon network. As you can see from the images, the photos that don't sync hop around. Sometimes I see everyones, sometimes no ones, but almost always there is someone's picture that doesn't show up.
Facebook 1 shows the picture of a contact missing.
Facebook 2 shows that person's picture, but a different person's picture is missing. As you can see from the timestamp, they are 2 hours apart.
Facebook 3 is the Linked Contact information for the user that can't be seen in #2.
Facebook 4 is when I go to tag that person from a photo and post to Facebook, and you can see that everyone's pictures show up.

FB sync has been an issue on android for a long time ever since Google removed the code for syncing with FB du to their privacy policies. I have heard of a few apps that force the sync but in the end as a Google OS I have a feeling google will always over ride it.
I have had similar issues and finally gave up trying to solve them and downloaded sync.me from the market. Works perfectly and now I don't have to worry about it.
