Choose your pic(open up fully) in Google Photos->tap the "share" icon at bottom->choose your file explorer app (ES File Explorer, etc) from list->save to desired location->profit.
Cheers!

That is not an optimal solution if you have hundreds or thousands of photos that you want to keep downloaded on the device.
It was an easy "keep album on device" when gallery was in the phone.
Has anyone ever found a solution?

The only way I can find, is to open each photo individually, click 3 dot menu, click download. I don't think you can multi select.
i have thousands of photos on my device, i use the gallery app to view them. i mostly keep them in my regular folder for photos and a folder for the picsay pro app. there could be hundreds of ways to save photos on yoyr device. or am i not understanding your question?

Hello everyone.
I was adding some files to the Galaxy S. Now I want some of them to be hidden so that they do not show in gallery or video player (incase of videos) for everyone and I can make them visible when I want them. Is it possible? If yes can someone please tell how to go about it or is there any app for it?
Regards
keep a blank file with the extension .nomedia in the folder that you want to exclude from media scanning..
You could also use "Vaulty Free" app that moves selected images and videos into a virtual vault which then requires a password to open and view. This also ensures that they do not show up in gallery and video player.
Hope this helps.
put the files you want to be hidden in a folder, and put a dot '.' before the name, like this:
.folder
this will hide it if you have, 'show hidden files' unchecked in options

I tried vaulty free. It looked to be a good app which would do the job but somehow when I locked videos through vaulty free they showed as "Images" in the vault! which wouldnt play. Also it took quite some time for 1 video too be transfered which was about 40 mb. So I guess it would take too much time if the quantity and size is large.

I had known about the nomedia trick but it displayed the files in the "my files" option. Adding a . before the name looks promising.
When done with nomedia file I guess it would solve the purpose. Would have to try this combination.
Thanks for the help folks.

The default action when you login to Vaulty is to display the stored images. Click Menu --> Videos to see and play the videos. Yes it does take a long time to transfer large videos.

Did that but it doesnt show anything when "videos" is selected and when images is selected files are show but they dont play!
Strange!! It works for me perfectly. I am assuming that you are able to play those videos outside vaulty using the stock video player.
How did you add the videos to vaulty?
The way I added is while the video was playing in the stock video player --> Menu --> Share Video --> Vaulty Free.
The only issue I have with Vaulty is I can play only one video at a time after which I will have to reenter the password.

Hmm yeah that is strange indeed. The videos work fine in the stock player but arent recognised in the vaulty free. It may work again if I reinstall the app but I will first try the other method as I would have large no. of files and adding them with Vaulty would take much time and as you just said it wont help if I have to enter the pass again and again after watching each video!

Exactly. Thats looks easy and fast and I would be trying it 1st and hopefully it will do the job!
So I loaded Serendipity today. Master cleared and everything. So I was really surprised to find old pictures on my phone when I opened the gallery app. And strangely it wouldn't let me delete them. Hmm. So I looked in the sd folders, dcim etc. Cannot find these pics anywhere! The gallery app did tell me the file names So I loaded up root explorer and ran a search... NOTHING!
These pics show in my gallery but I can't find the files anywhere. Where are they hiding?

Went into the stetting, manage applications, to the gallery app and hit clear data, and these strange photos vanished! Still don't know where they were. but they are gone now. Would loveto hear where they were stored if anyone knows...
Spoke too soon! So after a reboot, the folder of pics comes back! If I clear the gallery app's data, it vanishes again, but returns after every reboot. Can anyone help with this?
Is it a stack of thumbnails (separate folder path) or viewable image files? If you have external SD maybe browse it on a PC.
It still there with no external SD, and I can't find it from the PC or root explorer.
You, know, I have a blog, and these all seem to be photos on my blog. And blogger seems to be hooked to Picasa Web albums. So I'm thinking Gallery pulls pulls the contents of my Picasa Web album down to the phone... could this be? Can it be stopped?

If you have them linked then yes that is where they are comming from and why they keep comming back. The only way to stop it would be to but a no media file in the target folder, back draw is that the file will hide it from all Android apps that look for media
Hi everyone; wondering if anybody else is experiencing this problem (if it's even a problem, I'm not sure).
As far as I know, when I go into my stock Gallery app and navigate to my PicasaWeb folder, I should be able to view any videos I have in my PicasaWeb; I can see the different folders I have in there, but when I go into a folder, none of the videos actually show up. I know I have several videos in two separate folders, and I can access them normally through the web interface as well as Google+. Is there something I can do to be able to play my PicasaWeb videos through the stock Gallery app?
Any information provided would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much,
-GB

Just confirming that I dont' have my videos in Gallery via PicasaWeb either. This probably has something to do with the fact that you can't download videos that you've uploaded from PicasaWeb. I think that's what the gallery does, is downloads available content, and since videos aren't actually available for download, they don't show as an option to view

Have you got go launcher or any other third party launcher? Go sms? Any other custom sms clients? I installed go sms once and now I have those strange ghost smileys on my phone. And can't you simply delete them in the gallery (or any other image viewer)?
Sent from my Galaxy Note running ICS
This is what happens when third party apps store data on your sdcard, and don't include a nomedia file in the folder they are storing them in, youwill have to either delete the files or if they keep coming back find the folder they are in and create a file with the name .nomedia with no file extension
Just be aware that if you have other media in the folder (eg. mp 3, videos etc.), they will no longer show up in other media playing apps if you add the .nomedia file.
I have a lot of music folders that have album art in them. All of the album art shows up in Gallery, which is annoying. I can't add a .nomedia file, or my mp3's won't show in music players.
I use Just Pictures most of the time as it allows you to hide folders. I only use Gallery when I am selecting a picture from an app that doesn't play nice with Just Pictures.

It's not possible, because Whatsapp triggers the internal media library. You could manually clean media storage and sony gallery data or use an alternative app.
I would recommend Quicpic for general pictures like DCIM and Sony Album for dirty Whatsapp Images

undisputedpro's method is better, creating a folder prevents media apps from scanning the contents with that folder present on same directory. I'm using this method since i always save pages with the UC Browser and its annoying to see that the images embedded on the page is being scanned by our phone, result is it is displayed on the Picture widget of our Home launchers and gallery apps.
Thanks for the tips.
I have this same problem with TomTom, despite all the folders have a nomedia file in them, the images still show up in album. However, the whatsapp sent folder, which also contains a nomedia file does not show up...
They broke my signature...

I use quickpic so .nomedia file works i dont use album for veiwing pics
The pictures, movies and sounds sent and recieved from whatsapp are stored in the internal SDcard in the folder Whatsapp. IF you place a .nomedia file do this in all the folders This helps for me
I second what @mrjraider had written.
The Xperia Album galery app does honor .nomedia files... but only if the .nomedia file is located on the same folder as the pictures. It will still scan subfolders underneath for pictures.
So, go to Whatsapp's Images folder (by default located in /storage/sdcard0/WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Images ), and create a file named ".nomedia" (dot nomedia, without quotes) there. Inside that folder, there's a Sent subfolder. You might also want to create the ".nomedia" file there.
Do likewise for ther folders inside /storage/sdcard0/WhatsApp/Media, if necessary.
Don't forget to 'close' the Album app (tap "Recent Apps" button [the rightmost one] and swipe the "Album" app to the side), before opening it again.
You'll see that the Album app honors the .nomedia files.
.
so let me check if I got it right.
I have to create ".nomedia" FILE not FOLDER in the folder that contains the pictures I want Album app to not see.

Yes.
Also, clear cache on album and media scanner.
