So ive been having strange battery issues. Recent apps would suddenly become the #1 battery drain. When expanding on the apps, ive found "mobile radio active" for hours (2:30-5:00). Its definitely the drain, as my nexus 4 doeant have this issue.
More importantly, any ideas on how to fix it?

I've had the same problem on my Nexus 4 after upgrading to CM12 (Lollipop). And turning off "Mobile Data" while you're on Wifi seems to have fixed the battery drain from "Mobile Radio Active" for me. Although it's not a perfect fix, at least you won't suffer from battery drain where Wifi is available.

Over the last few months I've notice when looking at my battery stats that google maps uses 98% of my battery. The other few % being phone idle. The thing is I restarted my phone and never opened google maps since the last charge. Also Advanced task killer shows google maps as not running.
So why is google maps using all my battery life? My phone only lasts about 24 hours with little to no use. Before I could go a 2.5 days with the same usage.
Whats going on here?
My phone is rooted and I run cyanogenmod (lastest version [15])
Thanks.
i also have the same problem. i cant even last the whole day. from 6 i unplug at 100% and i go to school. with barely any use. and at around 5 -7 its at like 6 percent.
If you're using his most recent rom, this is old news, everyone has the drainage issue. Go dl another rom if it really bugs you that much...
So, Cyanogen is running Google maps constantly which is draining my battery? How accurate is the battery usage stats?
Try turning location services off. In the settings uncheck "Allow google to know your location"
People have been saying to do this. http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Troubleshooting#Battery_recalibration

I did that along time ago. I only have Bluetooth/Wifi/GPS on when I need it, and for my testing in this thread, they have all been off. I've had "Allow google to know your location" uncheck since I've owned the phone.
Since upgrading to 4.3 android system is taking a lot of battery and the phone won't deep sleep. I'm on stock 4.3 ge ROM and I wiped everything even SD card.
I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this or if anyone knows the culprit.
I see NLP wakelock and nlpcollector wake lock but not too sure what apps or app is using this wake lock or how to track it down. Any help appreciated thanks.

Using wake lock detector. I'm under the impression they both do the same thing. Its happening on both my tablet (n10) and my phone...so weird..I guess I'll wipe and just not restore apps. I was just curious if anyone else was having these issues.

with any app that uses location reporting you'll get the NLPwakelock. it is quite annoying but theres not much you can do about it. you can mitigate it by not using maps. or by turning off location sharing or unchecking "location & google search" under location options. that has helped my battery quite a bit.
just as a reference for my battery life:
total on time: 13 h
deep sleep: 10h11m
awake: 2h47m
screen on: 46m
wifi 2h50m
@73% battery. which i think is ok. have i had better yes. but 27% for 12 hours of standby and 45m of screen on. sure. if anyone else has any suggestions WITHOUT sacrificing autosync, maps, gmail, blinkfeed, and weather sync let me know!
Yeah I have android system as 42% usage. And strangely, gallery is at 44%..
Anyone else getting this ?

It's not just that, I restored my Nexus 10 and now the problem is gone but still happening on my HTC One, not sure what it could be, tired of restoring my phone lol. I deleted the HTC Debug app and that helped a little because that was part of the Android system usage, but I still have other stuff. Trying to narrow it down.

What are you using to check this? the built in battery stats or something like GSAM Battery Monitor?
I ask because ive been getting this on ALL 4.3 ROMs but it seems to be operating normally by looking at the third party app like GSAM. It makes no sense to me.
I am having the exact same problem on my HTC One 4.3. Stock battery app shows from 70%-95% of system usage. Downloaded battery doctor and it is coming from the Gallery app. I tried literally everything, from hard reset to disabling the Gallery app. I have been researching and trying to fix it all day, seriously driving me insane. I just switched to android, and I am trying my hardest not to regret it.
Any help would be very grateful.
I have the same problem as the OP, I'm using a Nexus 4 with Android 4.3. The problem is not that there are some wakelocks, the problem for me is that after using Google Maps the phone won't go into deep sleep at all until I reboot, it is all the time kept awake by this nlp wakelock.

Some people have it, some don't not sure what it is, but hopefully Google or some 3rd party ROM developers fix it.
On some occasions (about twice a week) I have a dramatic battery drain on my Note. It discharges faster than USB/pluged charger provides power, even in airplane-mode. After rebooting everything is fine again... for a few days. Manually killing the process "gpsd" cures this behaviour as well.
As reported by BetterBatteryStats I could not detect any unusual wakelocks... or am I reading it wrong?
This did not oocure before I switched from Paranoid Android 2.57 (JB 4.1.2) to StuNNeR 2 (JB 4.2.2).
However, I'm not allowed to post in the dev-thread for the rom.
According to quite a few reports I read about anything similar (esp. for S3), this issue should be fixed since JB 4.2.0... so either I didn't understand the circumstances (quite probably) or this is something completely different.
What can I do about this? Constantly checking battery charge and/or CPU usage is hardly an option :/
Interesting! Does your phone lag when battery drains, do you have wifi connection issues?
I'm suffering from battery drains and wifi issue. I will check what "top" would show and update you. I'm on sweet rom v10 by the way.

Wifi is usually fine.
Lags sometimes occur, but I'm not sure if they are connectet to the battery drain. I had the impression they happen mostly when the phone switches from wifi to 3G or vice versa.

None that I'm aware of
The only ones that come to mind are Maps/Navigation, Ingress and Facebook. Neither should have been active during these hours.
Is there a way to monitor which app could cause gpsd to use 50% CPU for hours?
For now I'll try swiching off "Wi-Fi & mobile network location" in Location Settings and wait if it happens again...

Could be location history and location reporting that run automaticaly on the background. It happened a few times with me. Mainly when i force closed my camera app when it was trying to geo tag mt photos. Then the GPS would keep trying to get my location even tough i wasn't using the app anymore.
Some people say that GPSD has nothing to do with gps positioning, but i don't know.

Anyone fixed the issue?
I installed the Sprint OTA kitkat upgrade last night. This morning, I started noticing that my battery was draining much more quickly than normal - 12 or more percent per hour with no usage, wifi on while in easy range of my home wifi (normally I see less than half this drain unless I am actually using to phone or off wifi). I've also noticed that the "receiving location data from GPS" notification icon keeps flickering on and off rapidly, sometimes almost constantly. I don't know if the two are related.
"Power Saver" is on, and battery usage shows 87% for "Android System".
Anyone else seeing this?
I've just tried turning Location Services off to see if that has any effect.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Update: it's definitely Location Services. After turning it off, my "idling" battery utilization dropped to about 3% per hour. What gives?

Yes this is a know issue when using gps/wifi for location. Try using only mobile network for location unless you need gps for maps.

Known problem for the HTC ONE in general, or known problem for the HTC ONE with kitkat? I've had the ONE for 9 months, use the GPS extensively (so Location Services is always on and enabled for GPS) yet I never had this problem until upgrading to kitkat.

The answer, at least in my case, was a hard reset. I did that, reinstalled my apps, and the GPS / battery issue has gone away. I was also having other intermittent weird issues that have gone away since reinstalling. I guess the upgrade must have corrupted some things...

Install/run AppOps and disable location permissions for Google Play Services and any other app that you think doesn't need location permission.
Hi, I'm noticing an abnormal battery consumption when the phone is connected in wifi (about 7-10% per hour in standby) and I can see the lower arrow of data connection always on, so some apps are constantly download data. I have tried to close several apps manually (even system app) but nothing has changed. In 4G instead all is fine. Do you have any idea what the problem might be?
I did notice this, too in the newest firmware.
Did even check if there is much traffic (can see it per app in adguard), but nothing.
Workaround for me is to disable wifi if in standby.
(Doesn't help if in usage of cause...)

What apps are showing at the top in battery usage?
Have you thought of installing BBS, there is a version that runs on non-root.
Does RCSService show up in battery usage?
Just in case it might help our op:
After 1day 12 hours (35min SOT):
Standby 11%
Mobile net in standby (sorry need to translate it) 6%
Deezer 6%
AdGuard 4%
Android OS 4%
Android-System 2 %
Bluetooth 1%
Display 1%
--> This should make 35%, but well, the phone shows 60% left, so still 5% are missing (I suppose it's just "other" apps >1%).
Phone still showing 2 days 4 hours to go.

I can see: Google Play services, RCS, Google Play Store, Android Operating System, Chrome, Wifi, Memory.
For installing BBS, for what I could read, you need to install via adb and for now I don't do it.
However, if I reboot the phone when I see this strange behavior, keeping always wifi on, then the phone returns to normal operation, and the battery consumption is normal. The problem starts when I turn on the wifi manually, with the phone already switched on.
Hi,
i have this problem too (not rooted, last firmware).
About 6% / hour if connect the xz1c to wifi.
If i simply restart the phone (with wifi on), it decreases to less than 1% / hour.
Did someone find the cause or a solution?
Thank you.
I opened discussions in Sony Mobile forums:
International
Italian
If you want, write about your issue there.
Maybe it will help to be solved.
Thank you.
Same problem here. I replied in the RCS thread, but on the latest 2 firmwares I lose about 7%/hr (idle drain) with wifi on and less than 1%/hr with wifi off. My phone also gets hot when I keep wifi on while idle. I've solved the problem by keeping wifi off except during large downloads, and I have a high enough data cap for that to be a reasonable option. Still annoying though.
Has anyone checked if there is a difference when WiFi scanning is disabled?
Good day.
I do not currently own a xz1C, but in my Galaxy S8 had the same issue, until i turned off "WiFi scanning" like user 'pseudonym58' said.
I have WIFI scanning OFF.
(the one in wifi-settings and the one in google-localization)

Hi guys,
yesterday i tried to see if Play Store in XZ1C was updated.
(play store, setting, tap on version)
It wasn't.
Tapping on version, it downloaded last version (8.9.24)
I rebooted the phone.
Battery drain on Wifi seems reduced (with my two modems) or maybe solved.
I'm monitoring the situation and i'll let you know.
Strangely it's 2 or 3 days the problem seems gone, I don't know if the reason for the change is the updating of some app or service. Play Store has been updated yesterday but the problem was already gone before. For now all is ok.
@aerofan
What version is installed now on your device?
(Btw I can press the version 100 times, it always tells me it downloading a new version )

I have 8.9.24.
This is what i did:
I tapped on version.
It said "google play will be updated" (or something similar)
I waited for a while (no notifications or messages appeared)
I came back on google play and tapped on version and it said it was updated.
I rebooted the phone.
Strange, I had an older version installed but it would not update.
I uninstalled all updates for the playstore and searched again: 8.9.24
Edit: Didn't fix the battery consume
I am experiencing the same issue. I have not checked on the google playstore version yet.
As soon as I switch wify on my battery loss is about 5-6% an hour when doing nothing. There is also no program standing out in the battery menu. When adding the consumption times there is a huge gap that cannot be explained. RCS phone shows up, but only with minor usage.
I will be back to you after checking the version of google playstore. Hopefully it does the trick.
Edit: I disabled automatic updates of google playstore and rebooted the phone. Battery consumption looks normal now. I then switched on auto update again. It still looks good.
Edit: Battery drain can temporarily be fixed with rebooting the device. Updating the playstore or disabling automatic updates did not work for me. Any other ideas?
Hi,
I have same problem with my battery life, it's quite fitfully.
I've checked that my battery can stand 3 days and 7h of screen on, but on the other hand sometimes my battery only can stand 1 days and 2'5h of screen on.
I make a very undemanding and very similar daily use of the XZ1 Compact
I have my xz1 Compact totally updated: Firmware v.47.1.A.12.119 PlayStore v.9.4.18 and disabled all of uncommon scannings (Wi-Fi,BT,Location,etc..)
My router has 2.4ghz band only enabled and WPA-PSK security, during the night I specially have good and strong Wi-Fi signal in XZ1 Compact.
So...Does anyone know what may be happening? I really appreciate your help.
Thanks.
Wifi battery drain was improved on the past few firmwares for me, but it's now back with a vengeance. This is on 47.1.A.12.235 (July patch). Absolutely massive drain during the times when wifi was on, with almost no screen use during that time. I resorted to turning wifi off.

The 5Ghz band uses a lot of juice, maybe the latest firmware pushes the phone to use that frequency by default. To test this try seperating the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz frequencies on your home router and joining the 2.4 with your phone.
This is just a hunch on my part, but I can't back it up with any proof.
