So as we all know, the Nexus 6 camera sucks in low light compared to just about every other phone on the market. I played with L Camera (camera app that uses Lollipop's new camera API's) and played with the exposure and ISO settings and was able to get very good quality pictures with minimal noise. This makes me believe that the hardware is capable of alot better low-light performance, but on the software side of things, the "default" auto-exposure setting is set too low. Is there any way to change this?
I'm able to get okay results using HDR+, but on apps like Snapchat where there is no control over anything, low-light pics are abysmal.

Is there a way to modify / lower camera flash brightness (output) in ICS?
When taking photos in darker environment, flash 'burns' the photo i.e. colors are washed out and photo is overexposed. I also noticed when the flash is activated during focusing, its brightness is normal.
As far as I remember, this was not the case in GB based ROMs (in which I always used ported stock LG camera app).
I've yet to try out alternative camera apps (zoom fx, ucam...), but I'd like to stick to the stock LG software.
TIA
same problem here, but i used Jbcamera+ for taking pictures (it has great autofocus and the flash is ok) and camerazoomfx for video recording,(the stock one not focusing and the jbcamera+) because the stock camera is bit annoying for me
I havent used the lg stock camera but as you have said the photos are over exposed when using flash so isnt there an option to decrease the exposure? I use the 4.2 Camera and when taking night shots depending on how close the target I set exposure to -1/-2 and get decent low light shots, flash wise that is.
Well, there is exposure compensation on stock camera app, just haven't thought of that before. Will try tonight both camera JB from play store and LG's app with exp -1 and -2.
Thanks.

I thought camerazoom fx only took photos?
Yes, the exposure is way too high. Generally the photos are affected by the flash burns. The only solution i found was to decrease the exposure to -1 or -2.
OK, much better with exposure at -1 and -2 (depending on the surrounding light level).
I just wish LG camera app were a bit more 'intelligent' to figure exposure compensation on its own, but then again it would probably have to rely on some DSLR-like metering methods that would certainly double the size of camera/CCD (and the bulge where it sits) as well as its price...
If this were top priority to me, I'd probably be carrying a 'stupidphone' with an enormous camera at its back (nokia 808, anyone
Getting pretty peeved with my N4 camera, the stock Android Camera app and their inability to raise the shutter speed to capture a bit of motion.
Pictures of the kids on my N4 are almost always blurry when then move a little. It appears that the stock app and the N4 camera refuse to increase the ISO to allow a faster shutter speed. Even in 'action' scene nothing much seems to change and you're left with low ISO, 1/20 ish shutter speed and the invariable blurred shots.
From what i've seen on the likes of Flickr and other forums, the One camera and software seem to happily increase the ISO to allow faster shutter speeds.
Is this what people are seeing? Can you please confirm? Are you using any specials scenes or modes?
I love everything about my N4, but this camera issue is really starting to annoy me and I think an upgrade is in the offing.

Yes, i came from the N4's ****ty camera to the One. you get all the options to adjust such as ISO, saturation, sharpness etc
Sorry for yet another camera app battle but so far, I haven't seen the two being compared against each other.
Since I found the Twisty Switch Xposed module, I've wanted to change the camera app into one of these two apps.
My MAIN uses for the camera are just to take pictures of documents [therefore I need the text to be seen clearly] and to take pictures of everyday things [in bright lighting]. I'm also looking to see which does better in taking pictures in yellow lighting [light isn't white bright, but it isn't dark either]. So, which better suits my needs.
Why don't you use both and see for yourself? Obviously FV-5 is going to give you more control.
I can't use FV-5 because whenever I change the ISO mode to lower value the images coming through the viewfinder get very poor framerates to become unusable. It's not a problem of the app or a specific device, both my Moto X have it regardless of apps used, it's just something to do with the Moto X camera.
For the best quality, should I use the regular camera or the setting that can blur the background?
I prefer to use pro mode at the lowest ISO possible. 50 ISO looks amazing but at lower light your shutter speeds are going to make for some blurry shots unless you have it mounted, etc.
Not a fan of any background blur whether it's iOS or Android. It's gimmicky at best and full of artifacts.
Hi,
Does anyone know what the different 'picture quality' settings in the camera app mean? There are 3 settings, low, standard and high. What do these actually do, and is there one that you prefer? A separate setting exists that says Enhance Image Quality. Isn't that kind of redundant, and should this be kept on?
In a lot of youtube video reviews for this phone, they compare the photo quality of the phone, and then they say something like, after 4-1 binning, the photo looks much better. If this is the case, what settings do I need to set on the phone to get the '4-1 binned' quality?
Cheers!
Picture quality is so obvious, I do not have numbers but it is about resolution and number of pixels. Try to take the same photo with different quality then try to zoom in photo to understand.
enhanced image quality is a nice feature that I have turned off, I like raw images than enhanced and I hate that sometimes it goes to night mode while I want to take low light photos , but it definitely is a great feature.
Not sure what is 4-1 binning and never heard of it.
My settings are the following:
HDR AUTO
AI OFF
9:16
Under camera settings:
Mode section: motion capture on, the rest are off. High quality picture.
Under preserve settings, beautify off**** was passing me off before update.
That is more than enough for me for images.
Hope it helps
