Hey does anyone know how to remove Carrier IQ on Stock using a root explorer ?? I am rooted.
Carrier IQ is detected on my lovely Note 4 ,but I don't feel like flashing a custom rom to get rid of it until the 5.0 release.
Thanks in advance :good:
EDIT: I just tried using system tuner to stop carrier iq and my phone after reboot went haywire...I kept getting system application manager crashes every few seconds so I tried restarting those services, but still continued to get fc's and finally had no choice, but to restore my backup smh.

I used titanium backup to remove the carrier iq with no problem.
Maybe you can post exactly what you did and help myself/any one else who mite be going through the same problem. Did you chk before and after with a ciq apk to make sure you got rid of it ?

I froze the System Manager App in TItanium (Pink Steering Wheel Looking Thing)...and com.carrieriq.blah.blah.blah was still showing up in Amplify with a **** ton of wakelocks. I searched for the same com.carrieriq.blah.blah.blah within Titanium and could find no refernce to it. No reference to anything "IQ" related in Titanium. It seems that even when it's frozen in Titanium...some reference to it somewhere is still kicking it into gear.
Anyone else have a proper method of completely removing CarrierIQ without flashing ROM? Seems like they bake that **** into the system real good.

Hello, i just got my first smartphone, i have AT&T and i didnt want an iphone and was more drawn toward andriod, so i got a captivate. I would really like to do alot of the things in the "Pimp my captivate" guide but i have some questions first.
1.) If i root the phone, and take off the bloatware, will i still get updates if i go to the check for updates in settings? (ex. like the gps fix and froyo update someday).
2.) Its not going to subtract any features from the phone is it ? (ex. the google syncing and everything will still work? Basically is the rooting process and or bloatware removal going to change the way the phone works besides the programs those being gone?
Ill admit i'm an andriod phone hacking noob, but i do know computers well and programming and have altered other devices in the past.

Since no updates have come down yet, I don't think anyone is sure of the answer to this. Keep in mind that it's a good idea to make backups of the app APKs on your sdcard before you remove them (just in case you want to reinstall them).

Removing AT&T's crappy apps won't affect the phone negatively at all. They simply won't be there, so you can't use them (if you find them useful). The only app that I can think of you may want to keep is the AT&T Hot Spots app so you phone can use free AT&T wifi at locations such as Starbucks.
Yes, you will still get updates as long as you do not install a custom ROM. (Rooting is ok).
The only functionality that will be removed will be that of the apps you delete
Thank you so much this clears up alot of the things I've been wondering.

Rooting issues
I have tried everything I have found online. The superuser icon is there. I have downloaded several apps that require the device to be rooted. I turned on usb debugging, and turned it off. I've downloaded update.zip several times.
I'm not entirely a noob when it comes to tweaking phones. I flashed roms on windows mobile and performed all sorts of modifications I got off this site.
I have the superuser icon. I downloaded titanium. Titanium says it installed busybox. I downloaded the separate busybox app from the market. That app has a popup saying that a nand unlock is necessary for the app to work. When I run it in spite of the popup, it says the device is rooted, but can't find busybox. A whoami command in adb will indicate that I'm not. I went though adb to reinstall busybox. But whenever I try to run any significant commands (eg su) it gives me a permission denied error. Googling permission denied gives me a myraid of possible causes, but it seems I'm getting far afield. I just want to get rid of the bloatware for now.
Is there another program to root this thing? Did I just miss something incredibly obvious?
hello, I recently just rooted this beast, and was wondering when, why, and how often i should clear out the dalvic cache

You shouldn't ever need to unless you are installing a ROM that requires it. the Dalvik Cache is the Java VM that Android Runs on and it does a very good job of keeping itself cleared. It does lots of Garbage collection on its own.
gotcha! thank you
From other post:
Another way to disable apps is to use Titanium backups "freeze" or the "disable" with adb. Both prevents the app from running BUT leaves it intact and give you a possibility to restore all apps with a hard reset.
Here is a guide from Paul at Modaco:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809231
Basically its use adb to run a PM command:
pm disable com.Apps.apps (change the file name to the apk you want to disable.
Note: titanium "freeze" do same thing

Fixed (hopefully)
I noticed that freezing using titanium takes a while... It just reports 'freezing...' and seems to hang there (after terminating and restarting the apk appears as frozen though).
Anyone with similar issues?
I can recommend SystemApp Remover, cheap nice UI installer/remover/disabler/backup app for your system apps, works very fine.
Can you disable the icon for alarm and call log and still get access to these in the call-app and the clock-app?
Anyone know this?
Hi, i just got my 2x and i‘m very new to this process, but does anyone know if you can do this with a temporary root then have your phone reboot with the apps still frozen? I‘m reluctant to void my warranty without a good reason e.e custom gingerbread ROM‘s, thanks in advance for any replies

Not really sure, but with root you dont really have to be carefull for waranty issues. You can very easily unroot your phone with SuperOneClick root and there won't be any trace left
Thank you for such a quick reply, i think i‘ll attempt it with a temp root and if it doesn't work i‘ll root it permanently since i will be flashing ROM‘s to it in the future.

The app disabling is not "linked" to the rooting process.
If you disable apps using a temproot they will stay disabled until you factory reset the phone or re-enable them.

I tried, and it didn't work. Anyone know if it is possible to get rid of those two icons from the app drawer?
Just a word of warning: if you freeze some important apps and do a factory reset (using default recovery) you will probably get stuck on boot animation or beyond.
That is what I did. I froze LG Home using AntTek App Manager, then did a factory reset without unfreezing it and I was stuck after the first Setup Wizard. I had to reflash the phone using NVflash.
Bloat Freezer is free on the market and works much the same way as titanium for freezing apps
Hi guys I need some help. I just wiped my phone and restored it back to factory and I'm getting
Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped.

everytime my phone boots up. This happened as soon as it booted up right after I reset it and it's happening every single time now. It happens EVERY boot, exactly 2 times. It will freeze up my lock/home screen temporarily and give me the error message. After it displays it twice then everything goes back to normal working order and I am able to make phone calls etc.
I do think I f'd up somewhere messing with xposed installer and the wanam module. My phone would go into boot loops when I had it previously set up so this is why I reset it.
It IS rooted. Factory kernel/rom (I don't think it's possible to change them at this moment but please correct me if I'm wrong.) I tried wiping cache and still nothing. Everything in Titanium backup is defrosted meaning its all there except for the things that I uninstalled on my last setup but I was caeful not to remove anything important (only At&t bloatware). Also I did have 'App Ops X' installed and it's installed now.
So please help if you can and thanks in advance.
Fixed!!!
Not sure how exactly but I went into Titanium Backup and disabled a bunch of things that I wouldn't use. I get no errors now. Might be disabling of the 'Knox' that fixed it, who knows.
Thanks for the update,
I wasn't receiving this everytime like you were but I was getting it every so often. I tried using Titanium Backup to freeze some unwanted crap also and I haven't seen the Error since.
Don't know what we got rid of but it works lol

Hi,
I can barely remember but I did remove Samsung Knox and everything with 'knox' in it. I would freeze a few things at a time that you don't think you need and keep rebooting until it's fixed. I went through many trial and errors until I finally got it 100% working.

Hello everyone,
So i have towel rooted the S5, it's great and works fine except for a couple things. Like the title says, neither s-voice or s-health update. They both keep telling me they have updates but, when I try to update the app force closes. Unfortunately "blank" has stopped. I was wondering is this because of towel root or another reason. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Yes, thats what he means. Going to app manager and clearing cache
I had updated everything before I used towelroot, so I can only help in saying that a few days ago I updated with no problem.
I might also try a difference between WIFI and Data attempting to update.

I just tried to go through app manager and clear the cache and it still doesn't fix the problem. I'm thinking the only way to get around this would to be uproot and then update and root again. My only complaint about that way is - do I have to do that everytime these apps want to update?

I've updated plenty of apps since then. I wouldn't get carried away right off the bat.
There are several factors that could be preventing it from updating that are out of your control. Next thing I'd try, a stupid, yet simple. turn off, pull battery, turn on and try again. If that doesn't work just wait 12 or 24 hours before attempting again.
Like I said before, stuff out of your control, servers, networks, etc.

I'm sorry for all the trouble guys but I found the problem. What I forgot was that I froze the Samsung appstore app from within titanium backup. Realizing those are Samsung apps and not the playstore apps and defrosting the Samsung appstore is what fixed the problem.
Thank you again for trying to help. Also really sorry for the trouble. Will hit "thanks" to the responders!

So I successfully unlocked and rooted my phone with various methods because Boost Mobile didn't make it easy, and then managed to root via TWRP,
The reason why I rooted the phone is because I want to remove bloatware like Connection Optimizer and Boost Zone.
I got a hold of a root explorer copy and managed to delete the .apk files with their respective helping files.
On top of that, I got another application to remove the installed apps and it worked.
So, after a while of using the phone without a hassle, it just randomly turns off.
And when I boot it up again, the apps are back and more annoying than before.
I have no idea how to change folder permissions (I forgot, I did it once on LG Venice but that was a while ago)
And I really need help, the bloatware takes up to 2gb and its annoying with the constant bombardment of notifications.
Please, if you can, HELP ME.

Have you flashed a kernel with write protection removed? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57174863&postcount=1
I've got the BOOST as well and that kept the bloatware off but occasionally they will try and re-download from the Play Store so I had to turn automatic updating of apps off and update apps manually as they come.
EDIT: I was waiting for my new user time limit to submit this. Didn't see the exact same answer posted above. That kernel worked for me (Boost 510). The later ones with performance enhancements did not. I am now bloat free.

I have that already flashed, that's the one I posted. I've now got just a base system by uninstalling EVERYTHING you can imagine. I'm just saying occasionally it would try and re-download some apps but now I've got automatic updating turned off it doesn't do it anymore.

Your phone has to be in FASTBOOT not the os, but I assume you know that. Try adb kill-server and then adb start-server and then do the fastboot flash boot b.img or turn the computer off and turn it back on and try again. I've had this problem a couple times, these two methods worked.
