I'm root/soff. a new ota just came out that will fix my unusable phone. how do I take it if im root, do I have to fully unroot? or can I take it as is?

looks like it needs stock recovery to flash, it's not hboot format and twrp won't take it. will report back if I am able to do it

One of the benefits to being s-off is you don't have to take the OTA...you just flash the firmware and done.

i did that and then i was unable to take profile or prl updates :crying: it also didnt apear to have fixed the signal issue... i might not have waited enough... or it could have something to do with the unability to take prl and profile updates... anyhow ill try again from a diferent download see what happens
Did your baseband change? last four should be .0610.
If it did change then it's most likely a network issue.

Yes the baseband did change but the signal problem persists. i need to take the FULL ota to fix my phone (or install something else that will) regardless the radios alone aren't fixing the issue.
i tried flashing the rafios by themselves and it wouldnt update prl or profile; it also had the same signal issue. i tried the radios AND the new stock rom for it and same thing. i tried going back to stock and taking the ota and the ota wouldnt install.
Thoughs?
I'm the same root/s-off. I flash the h/k sound file did you find a way to install the latest ota update?
I cant figure out how to get the OTA either
I have S-Off im also rooted, and i have TWRP recovery, i can't get the zip to flash. I was thinking about doing a stock root recovery using the RUU, but then i thought if i do that, would i still be able to reroot using the same method? so my question is, how can i flash this zip and keep my root? or should do a stock recovery from the RUU and update and wait for another root? if any devs read this, i'd really like your help please and thank you. I currently have the stock rom with just root access and S-Off.no custom roms on here.
man.. i have the same problem bro.. smh.. hey man keep me posted if something comes up

You have to have stock recovery to take the update, which means you have to flash stock recovery first and then take the update, then repeat the rooting process.

you should at least have seen a green arrow circle and/or a red triangle with a "!" in the middle. if you saw the triangle that is recovery trying and failing to update. at this point if you press and releast volumeup+power it should bring up the text of what it did.

I'm looking at the MikMik one, and I am just not sure if this will erase all my apps and settings. Do I need to use a backup app or should I be ok flashing this and keeping all my apps and settings?
Ok so here is the deal i got a nexus 6 on the 19th the 1st thing i did was root it then i did a bit of customizing on it that i dont want to lose. Now my phone says i have an update that it wants to install, so i let it do its thing but it wont install it just keeps saying there is a update. So my questions are if i make a nandroid back up on build # LNX07M and unroot by flashing back the factory img and then install the update which i think will update me to build # LRX21O. can i restore the backup from LNX07M to LRX21O?
No. Restoring your backup will put you in the exact state you're in now, that's the point of them.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
So then best thing i can do it factory restore and then do the update followed by rooting and modding?
Not a factory restore.. You will need to get back to stock to take any OTA (new "feature" introduced with lollipop)
Either flash the old version system image and take OTA, or flash the latest system image directly.

So i just ended up flashing the latest system image, took some work but i got it done thanks for your help.
Did you flash it right over top your rooted ROM and if so where did you get the zip?
was this just "fastboot flash system system.img" ?
Does that kill Root?
You can get the file from google. and yes i just flashed it over top.

Did you flash the bootloader and radio as well?
yep
So my phone is rooted with unlocked bootloader running faux kernel. I just received the ota update and clicked the button for restart and install. When I did that it brought me to my main option list in twrp. I didn't know what to do so I hit reboot system. It rebooted but nothing showed updating when I did that. Showing I'm still on 5.0.0.
What did I need to do? How do I still update now?
You cannot accept ota if you're modified.
You'll have to flash a ROM.zip or fastboot flash system.and boot image.from the factory images

See that's what I thought but was confused that I got the ota. I'm having a problem finding the rom.zip. Only finding images and I don't want that. Do you happen to have a link?

If you download the image from google there is a zip drive with the files you are looking for inside of them. You can fastboot them individually.
Or you could just flash one of the many roms on here that are using the newer 5.0.2

Give Sinless rom a try. There is a thread on here for it. It is based off of the office 5.0.1 image and not aosp. Great speed and features and decrypted

If you unlocked the boot loader, rooted and have TWRP custom recovery, you just need to :
1. Download rom and gapps to your phone. Links should be found in the OP of the ROM's thread. If you wish Google to restore your apps be sure you have selected the backup-auto restore in settings.
2. Do unencryption now if you wish.
3. Boot into TWRP recovery and wipe a couple times.
4. From TWRP, install the rom and gapps.
5. Reboot system, sign into your Google account and let it download and restore your apps.
6. Reboot system once more & you should be gtg.

Should be in the Chroma OP or close thereby as to whether you need the boot loader.
I would think for sure a wipe or two. Boot loader, maybe. Radio, at your discretion.

I checked. Instructions and prerequisites are in the OP of the Chroma thread.
I also updated my Nexus 6 with 5.0.1, unlock and root, to 5.1 without losing data. I just had to re-root it afterwards.
I used Wugfresh Nexus root toolkit.
In short I used "Flash stock + unroot", in which I selected "Enable no-wipe" and "force-flash".
After this I rerooted the device from within NRT.
Worked like a charm!

Oooook... I'm confused too. I'm on dirty unicorns 5.0.2.. I want to upgrade to 5.1... Some instructions say to flash the unencrypted kernel and I also have looked into the boot img and baseband thread.. But when would I need to do all of this? I need someone willing to explain it like I'm five how and when to update the baseband, etc.. I already backed up my internal storage so I'm ready to do whatever I have to to flash Chroma or any other non stock 5.1 ROM.

Well can you be my guinea pig and flash chroma without doing everything else? worst thing that could happen is it not boot into the rom and wrong radio will just make your phone not pickking up signel intil you flashed radio. but chroma dont say anything about flashing bootloader so i dont think its needed.
BTW ims still on rooted stock 5.0.1.

Nice but what do you fix. If it is only a message that is displayed at boot but has no negative effects what is the point of fixing.
In my opinion using firmware and modem from mm for n can't be a good match or let's say better.
I have no DM verity error and I have cb9 firmware and rooted

Why would you want to flash old firmware and modem, not made for this ROM, just to get rid of a pointless message?
Especially when there are other methods to fix this so called issue ...

Its a bug related cb9 firmware. U can use cb7 firmaware to fix it..
This makes sense. I was on open beta 8 for a few days
When I stumble across open beta 8 firmware + modem, I flashed it. Phone was working without issues prior to that, so I dont know what possessed me to do that because after that I began receiving dmverity message right after bootloader warning. I immediately knew it had to be the updated firmware/modem. Unfortunately I was unable to access twrp anymore. I ended up bricking my phone trying to revert this issue lol all is good now. I suggest you do not update to any firmware/moden newer than cb 7.

Exactly I believe there is no point in flashing old firmware only if you can't wait for 5 sec.
If this was a bug oneplus would have pushed a patch out by now.

In my opinion it is more a twrp incompatibility that will be resolved when N sources are out by oneplus

it's easily avoidable (but the phone will be decrypted)
after flashing ob9 successfully and booting to system, reboot to TWRP (.28) and wipe convert data to f2fs then wipe it, then wipe internal storage (back up your data to your pc 1st)...and that's it, if you want root, reboot back to TWRP and flash root, then roboot to system, dmverity will be gone, and the phone decrypted,
(this will work if you started with a clean ob9 install like sideloading, and you ended with a full stock ob9)
