I just got the Moto X 2014 Pure Edition. I like Moto Display, but I do not like how the active display wakes ever time I lift the phone.
I already disabled the Approach for Moto Display.
How can I disable lift wake?
Thank you.
No.
If you've taken the lollipop update then turn on ambient display
Just ignore it. It uses minimal battery. Android remains in deep sleep when active display is displaying.
Thank you all.

This may have been answered elsewhere , but I am coming from an S4 and I was wondering why my Droid Turbo when I pick it flashes the lock screen.
I have moto display turned on for notifications and I like that, I do not have the the wave/hand proximity turned on.
The phone will slide in the car seat and the lock screen will come on I pick it up and it flashes on. Then it goes on and I keep moving it around it will then flash back on again. Or every time I take it out of my pocket it comes on.
I heard something about Moto screens breathing or something.
thanks!

Moto Actions controls that. I actually like it because I can check the time just by waving my hand over the phone without having to hit a button. You could try disabling Moto Actions to see if that helps.

All the moto actions are disabled, I only have active display on to show notifications. The one where you wave to turn the screen on is not enabled
thx

Did you just turn off the settings or disable the app?

Here is what I see happening, if you turn on Moto Display to flash notifications, each time I just pick the phone or move it the lock screen and time flahes.
If I turn off Moto Display, no notifications flash and when I move the phone no lockscreen, no nothing.
Should be a way to see the notifications flash in and out, but not react to just moving the phone by flashing lock screen
thx
There are two separate apps in play here. Moto Display and Moto Actions.
Moto Display is what you want to keep active so that it will show you on the lock screen when you get a message, etc.
Moto Actions is what happens when you move your hand towards the phone.
If you go into your apps settings and manually disable the Moto Actions app. It will prevent the phone from flashing the lock screen when it detects movement.

I know,. all the Moto Actions are turned off, I only have Moto Display on and have chosen the apps I want to show.
Phone sits on the desk, for a few minutes screen black I reach over and pick it up lock screen comes on
I just restarted and no change
thanks
Do you have "Approach" turned off under moto actions? Cuz that's exactly what it sounds like you have turned on.

Mine does the same thing it may be because the twist for camera is on? all other options are turned off (battery Saving)
Every time I move the phone the notification screen lights up but I noticed if you cover the proximity sensor on the top of phone it doesnt light up at all
Its part of the active display. It comes on when the phone is moved. I do wish there was a setting for it to only come on when you have a notification, but there isn't a setting for that that I know of. I know a lot of ppl like this "feature," but I do miss just the simple notification led.
i do not have approach or twist for camera on at all. I only have the notify on notifications.
phone sitting there , black screen just lift one side up and the screen comes on
Moto Actions/Moto Dispaly
Interesting thread because it illustrates the various preferences we all have in interacting with our phones. I think it's pretty neat that Moto developed these options despite the fact that I've turned off some of the features.
For example, I don't need it to sense my eyes, so I turned off that. I don't need it to turn on each time I wave my hand. It was turning on with shadows/sun/clouds while driving and anytime I'd move my arm. Don't like that.
What I do like is the intermittent notifications as well as the screen turning on if I move the phone. What we do with the notifications is pretty cool too. I like my Turbo Droid.
Cheers!

Seems to be some confusion in here.
Moto Display uses two methods to turn on the screen. It uses the phone's accelerometer to tell if you move the device. If you move the device at all, Moto Display will turn on. Only way to stop this is to turn off Moto Display.
The other method uses the front IR sensors to detect if you wave your hand in front of the screen. This method can be turned off within Moto Actions.
The screen constantly flashing (especially in the car) is annoying, but it has almost no battery impact.
That's what I was looking for, so it's the accelerometer making it come on as I don't have the hand activation turned on, I just have the moto notifications in Moto display turned on

Here is the right solution
Go to settings > App > In all app tab select these two app 1) Moto Display 2) Moto Action, now disable these both app and now the phone wont flash clock..
If you have RR Rom installed I think there is an option to turn on and off the hand wave and/or the "pick-up" sensing.
I found out how to stop the clock and battery circle when I move. You set it by just clicking the Moto app. And turn it off.
It's not done I'm settings. You have to open the app from the home screen.
Trust me, the thing blinking every time I moved when the screen was turned off was driving me nuts!
Is the lollipop ambient display supposed to wake the phone up when you pick it up like Moto display does? Mine doesn't.
Mine neither...ambient display behavior is weird....doesn`t work quite well. Maybe is an L bug...

Yeah I keep reading how on the nexus 6 it works just as Moto display does but not on the Moto x. It sucks because I actually prefer the full lockscreen notifications over Moto display.
Ambient Display will not turn ur screen on when u pick it up. It only lights the area where the notification came in on lock screen.

that's pretty lame. i like the look of it more than moto display, but if it doesn't light up when i pick up the phone it's worthless.

Yeah but I've read that ambient display uses a lot more battery than the Moto Display because Ambient Display uses the Snapdragon Processor while Moto Display doesnt so Moto Display is more battery efficient lets say .... I havent tried it myself to be honest.

Good to know
I want to use moto display and deactivate ambient display, but I don't know how to do it. When I receive a notification all I see is a padlock icon.
My settings :
Moto Display knows when you reach for the phone because of the four infrared sensors in the corners. I heard that activating Ambient Display deactivates those sensors, so the phone doesn't know you're reaching for it.

Yes, Moto Display gets deactivated when you use the Lollipop Ambient Display. It's not the reaching for the phone part that I cared about though, as I have that disabled in Moto Display. I just wish Ambient Display turned on when you picked up the phone like Moto Display does.
I have Moto display on, active display turned off, is there a way to disable the display from turning on when picking up the device? I already turned off the wake when approaching, and the wave functions, but can't get this one to turn off.
Have you tried turning off 'ambient display'? It's supposed to be for waking up device when there are notifications, but may be it's worth giving it a try.

Do you mean to say you have ambient display (the Lollipop feature) turned off?
With using Moto display, you can't disable the "show time/notifs when phone is picked-up/bumped/taken-out-of-pocket" feature. You get that plus pulsing notifs -- no way to choose just one or the other
If you open the moto app there are options to turn off wake when approached and pulse notifications
Is it possible to make ambient display wake like on nexus 6? Not moto display, but ambient b/w display on touching or picking up?

(Maxx) On Lollipop, you can disable moto active display and use the built in ambient display instead.
(Turbo) You have to wait for Lollipop.
Maxx lollipop ambient doesnt have "pick to wake"

Sorry, but my question was about nexus 6 "pick the phone to wake the screen" function.
I know about ambient displey. But, when you take moto maxx nothing happens. You have to press power button . On the nexus 6 ambient display you take the phone, like moto display, and it turns on!
So, how to add tap to wake or pick the phone to wake function on maxx lollipop ambient?

I use Auto Screen On from Play store to wave over the sensor to turn on phone. I prefer Nils Lockscreen notifications to the limited Moto display. Uses some battery but what the heck since we got 3900 mA.
Exists a way to disable the Moto Display of awakening with vibrations?
Any little vibration on the desk makes the moto display to awake, it is annoying me.

Unchecked vibrate on touch under moto display
Sent from my XT1097 using XDA Free mobile app
What I mean to say is, my phone is in a desk, then a small vibration like putting my elbow in the desk, makes the Moto Display to awake.
It's annoying because I have to look to the phone to check if is not an message, and is not, just the super sensitive Moto Display.

Go into the app drawer and you will see the Moto icon. Touch that to open it then up at the top is a gear touch that. You can turn off active display entirely by touching display and unchecking moto display.
You also can try turning off Approach for Moto Display in the Actions to see if that helps if you don't want to turn off the moto display entirely.
I already had tried that, but I it only makes me lost the approach to awake. It continues to awake with vibration, but way less.
I wanted the Moto Display to have the approach but not the vibration sensor.
I've had searched for a service for disable but to no avail.
Hummm, maybe with xprivacy...
