Hey guys,
I have 3 USB ports on my laptop. I used to love connecting my TP on this one port until it just recently broken. Then, I tried other USB ports to connect my TP but always get the blue screen on my laptop after I tried to do so. I want to install ICS on it but was unable to do so as my laptop keeps rebooting. Any ideas?
BTW, my TP is running CM7 3.0 and running the ICS ADW theme if that would ever be the problem.
Does the computer do that when you use a different USB device?
If it is only the touchpad, I would say try connecting through webOS and see if that does anything different. Also try turning off USB Debugging in Android so it doesn't try to load the driver.
Sounds like something is shorting out causing the laptop to shut off and reboot as a fail safe. Check to make sure the laptop's USB port is good by trying other devices, also try another microUSB cable. If the issue persists the microUSB connection on the TP could have issues.

Oh, nice! turning off the USB debugging made the trick. Thank you so much.

The laptop USB ports are good and I've tried using it with my pendrive. Thanks for your help though. =)
I've got a Motorola Milestone with a broken USB Port, is it possible to get a custom ROM running ?
All Guides I found start with flashing via USB-Connection.
About Phone says: "Firmware-Version: 2.1-update1"
Regarding if you can flash it without the usb connection i don't know but are you sure that the usb connection on your phone are broken? Have you tried different cables, usb ports on the computer or even with another computer?
Sent from my Milestone using xda app-developers app

I bought it on ebay and in the description the broken USB was mentioned, but I hoped the previous owner just had some problems with his/her PC. But on my Laptop with my cable it says nothing, so it seems to be broken.
I guess there's no chance to get a new ROM running.
So now I try to buy another Milestone with a broken display or something else that makes it cheap, because It seems the motherboard with the USB-port is one of the first things when you disassemble it, so it should be easy to change.
This is weird, I though my phone had a complete non funtional usb port because it does not charge or make conection with the pc.
The other day I tried the JIG and it got me to the download screen. So, it seems that my usb port is somehow still working (or something like that).
So, what could be the problem with my USB?

Check if your USB pins are dirty, perhaps clean them even if they don't seem like it (nothing with water!).
If that doesn't work, my guess is that your pins 1-3 are dead and need new USB port.
I haven't used my TouchPad for a few years, and I wanted to give it another try. Unfortunately I have misplaced the original cable that came with the unit. For charging purposes I'm okay, since I have a dock, but now that I wanted to possibly upgrade OS, I can't do anything without the original cable. Tried a few regular USB to micro USB cable, and none work. The computer (I tried Mac and Windows) does not see TouchPad connected.
Would like to upgrade from Cyanogen 4.1.2 to at least 4.4.4, or maybe Nougat, but without the original cable, looks like it's impossible.
Any idea where to get a replacement cable? Amazon has a few options (not too many), but I'm not sure if those would work. Some reviews are saying that charging works fine, but I'm not sure about the data transfer.
Any help is much appreciated.
You should be able to use any kind of Micro USB cable that has a big thicker width. Especially the really short ones won't work because they don't contain the correct connectors. You should just head to the store and a cable that you've got from them should work, but I doubt you would need one if you have a working cable. You have not explained what kind of modes you've tried, what you were even doing
Have you tried
1. Installing novacom driver? (Assuming you are wanting to mod)
2. Changing file transfer to transfer data (MTP)?
Thank you for the reply.
Yes, I was trying to upgrade to Lineage11 build and install Kitkat 4.4.4, with the idea to possibly upgrade it later to Android 7 Nougat. Right now I have Cyanogen 4.1.2, which I've installed a few years ago, but haven't used my TouchPad for quite a while. So, at first I had to recharge the battery which was completely discharged. I still have the original charger, but the USB cable I had didn't do a thing. The tablet was giving me a warning to use the original cable, which I don't have anymore (can't find it). I left the USB cable plugged in for 2-3 hours, and got no signs of life from the tablet. Then I remembered I had the charging dock somewhere, I luckily found it, and after only about 10-15 minutes, the tablet was back to life and started to charge.
The next day, I wanted to proceed with the upgrade. I still have WebOS installed, but this time I wanted to get rid of it. I installed Novacom driver and Toolbox v42. However, after putting the TP into WebOS recovery mode and plugging the USB cable between the computer and the tablet, I was getting the message that the connection to the TP cannot be established. I tried it on Windows 10, but also on a MacBook. Nothing worked. That's why I'm suspecting there is something wrong with the cable. It did not charge the tablet initially, and then it failed to transfer data. Since I have no idea where my original USB cable, that came with the tablet is, I ordered a new cable from Amazon. Just a regular Micro USB cable. It should arrive in a few days, and I hope it will work.
Thanks again for replying, and I'll let you know what happens when I get the cable.
I am still waiting for the new cable from Amazon. It will take another day or two, but now I really wonder if the cable I already have is bad. I just used it to successfully charge a couple of headphones. It worked just fine. But when I try to use it on my TP, no data transfer is possible, and as I said before it won't charge the tablet either. Really concerned that the new Amazon cable will do the same, which means - nothing. Quite confused, to say the least.
Sorry to bother you again folks, but this thing is driving me crazy. I don't know if it is cable related or not, but apparently I cannot install tptoolbox_v42.
Working in Windows 10, and after successfully installing Novacom driver, when I double click on the tptb_v42_win.bat file, the message I am getting is that the connection to TP cannot be established.
Then I tried running the same bat file as administrator. Now the message is that it cannot find TPToolbox-2015-01-08-v42.bin file. That binary file is sitting in the very same folder, as the executable.
What am I doing wrong? Or is it the cable?
Thanks!

The cable must provide data and charging, if the cable is charging the other phones properly then the cables is only to charge the phone and does not provide data.
The Toolbox can only be use to install an specific Android ROM and Recovery, it will not flash any other ROM version.

That has to be the problem with the cable I was using. The one I'm expecting to arrive from Amazon today is a charge/data cable. It should work...I hope.
Yup, it was the cable. Obviously what I had was a charging only cable. Just got a package from Amazon, tried the cable right away, and it works like a charm (charge and data).
Thank you, djared704 and HP_TOUCHPAD
I recently trashed my phone, and the screen's completely busted. Both the oled and the touchscreen itself is completely busted, but the phone itself is still working. There's some stuff I wanted to get off the phone, and I was wondering how I could do this.
The phone didn't have usb debugging turned on, I've tried using HiSuite & Vysor, and tried blindly using the screen with USB OTG (however i'm not sure if it was working -- i'm using an older model connector and it's adapted microusb to usbc), but nothing's working. I tried using the HiSuite system recovery, but it said the p20 didn't work with it. Due to that, I'm now locked out as when rebooting normally, I can't input my pin. I'm able to get a usbc to hdmi, but if my screen's bricked, i'm not sure how i'll be able to interact with the phone, on top of if usbc/hdmi will work if it's locked.
Is there a better way to do this that i've overlooked?
You can use an adapter that have hdmi out and usb port and maybe an type c for charging
I have this model and work flawless
I bought it from AliExpress
