I have a moto x 2014 pure edition running 5.0 lollipop, I had lollipop with few operational upsets for a good week or so and decided to root my device. After root I noticed the phone will lag, not extraordinarily often but it happens every day, it will also sometimes freeze up and reboot randomly when performing tasks like pulling down the notification shade or anything really. Has anyone else noticed this? and is there a fix or should I just unroot the system?

I'm interested in the feedback you get. Try posting in the thread in General called Root Achieved Lollipop....

Just a quick question for everyone. My apps close by themselves in the background. WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger are the 2 worst perpetrators. I will stop receiving messages unless I open the app once every 15 minutes. If I forget, I'll open the app and suddenly get flooded with a ton of "new" messages.
This only started happening since 5.0. I've unlocked my bootloader and installed the Pure Edition 5.0.1 and then upgraded to 5.1 leak and have the same issue. I've wiped my phone and that does nothing. I don't think it's the memory leak glitch because I will have more than 1gb of RAM free when these problems are happening.
Is it a rogue setting in 5.0 that's causing these problems? Has anyone seen this before? I'm back on my 2013 Moto X temporarily until I figure this out, but I'd love to go back to my 2014 X.
Thanks everybody!
This is a known memory leak issue with 5.0. It's supposed to be fixed with 5.1 but I haven't had an update so I can't confirm. Music playing in the background and Bluetooth are issues for me.

Same problem here. For me, the app which gets restarted most often is Nova Launcher. Rebooting the phone fixes this for some time (one or two days) but eventually it come back again

I agree with TriumphGuy and am pretty sure the source *is* the memory leak bug since the symptoms are the same.
BTW I will be very disapointed if this issue is confirmed not being fixed un the upcoming 5.1 official release
I got my Moto X in October 2014, and at the time I thought it was the best phone ever. It did everything perfectly, no issues with the car bluetooth, hands-free, etc. Just great all the time.
In November, the Lollipop update came, and since then, it's been non-stop issues. I know there are memory leaks and people report problems, but just wondering if it's this bad for everyone. By the way, I did a factory reset a couple of months ago, but didn't see much improvement.
Here's a list of things that came with the Lollipop update.
A few times per day, I get this message: "Unfortunately, Google Play Services has stopped". It happens with all sorts of apps. After that, I can't tell what is actually broken, if anything.
Sometimes (maybe once every two weeks) when the phone rings, I get the vibration/ringer, but I can't actually answer it until I unlock the phone.
Not all apps sync to my Moto 360, even after doing a "resync". This could of course be an issue with the 360.
Also on the 360, sometimes notifications just stop, but the "Offline" indicator isn't present.
Google Play Music and Pocket Casts are especially problematic.
Lag. Just starting an application, there is always that half-second delay.
So my questions...
1. Is it possible to revert to KitKat? I haven't seen ROM images available. I used adb plenty of times with my HTC One, but the phone was rooted and had a custom recovery, so I felt safer doing it.
2. Is there any info on when 5.1 (or 5.0x) will become available for the Verizon model?
3. Do you think Verizon would take the phone back, just based on my general complaint that the phone has been essentially broken for 5 out of the 6 months I've had it?
Thanks for any help.
You can't go back to kit kat because the bootloader has been updated. You could try a warranty and tell them all the problems, I doubt they would exchange because that's only the first 15 days, after that warranty replacement. You could flash an unbranded stock ROM, don't need to unlock bootloader . or say goodbye to warranty and flash custom ROMs. I am running eclipse on my moto x 2013. It has all stock features
Ok so I have tried this two different ways and I seem to be getting the same result.
I have done the Downgrade to kitkat>root>pre-root and I have problems, my notification bar will act up, sometimes it will come down by itself, and if I close it, it will come back down. Sometimes apps do not load and sometimes my phone will become so slow that its unusable. I have also done the OTA updates from Kitkat to lollipop 270 and used kingroot, then used the method to switch from kingroot to Supersu and the same thing is happening, I am not sure if this is something to do with lollipop or something to do with the way I have rooted it but either way its annoying me, other than that the lollipop update is running fine other than the occasional switch off at about 15%. I would downgrade back to kitkat, but I do prefer Lollipop. I have also noticed that after a while most of my notifications stop working, I only get the odd ones.
I did do a reset on both times after upgrading to lollipop 270 before installing everything.
Any help would be appreciated.
I have no solution but i am experiencing same kind of problems... nothing with notifications or bar but apps wont load, battery is fine until less than 20% might go from that to shutdown less than a minute and sometimes gets really really slow and unusable... sometimes its fast as hell ! so yeah, you are not the only one !
Hey guys,
I've just received my new Moto X XT1052. I've just unlocked the bootloader, and am now thinking about what to do. It's currently on Lollipop 5.1
I would like to put either Cyanogenmod 12.1 or Gravity Box onto it, but I can't decide on which one.
Gravity Box is good because it goes over the stock Moto rom, and I'd still be able to have the fun little tweaks that Motorola created for it, such as twist for camera etc...
Cyanogen would be good because it has functions that GB doesn't have, such as long-pressing back to force quit, number of home screens, and a few other things that are missing from GB.
Does anyone know a way of installing Cyanogen but retaining the Moto apps?
Also, do you recommend I stay with Lollipop? Or should I downgrade to Kitkat 4.4.4 (or thereabouts)
Many thanks!!
You cant have both CM and Moto apps.
But Moto Camera Mod can be flashed i think. AC Display can be used as Moto Display. Moto Voice cant be! There are 3rd party apps but nothing can be equal to stock app.
Also I prefer to be on Stock kitkat as the standby was good with it.
stock 4.4.4 +GB works best for me, may be Viper4Android for sound. That's all I need on my Xstock 4.4.4 +GB works best for me, may be Viper4Android for sound. That's all I need on my X
I'm on CM 12.1 now. The only unique Stock-feature what's missing are Voice Commands. "twist" for camera, "chop" for Torchlight, hand wave and pick-up for active display works.
The battery drain seems to be better in the latest nightlies (27/28.10.), but still not what i expect.
KK is no option for me, cause the Holo-design looked really ugly.
Holo-design? My battery life at the moment is terrible, maybe getting 6 hours from one charge?
If active notifications no longer work, how would I be notified since there's no notification light?

The designlanguage before Material (Android 4.0 ICS - 4.4 KitKat = Holodesign; since 5.0 Lollipop = Materialdesign)

Ok, thats really bad. With latest CM 12.1 nightlies I get about 4 hours SoT and about 16 hours mixed use. So it's enough for an average day in my life.

active notifications are available in CM 12.1! It is called Ambient display an has almost the same functions.
Could I get ambient display with cyanogenmod 11?
Thabks for your answers
there are some Apps in the store which promise features like Ambient display, but I haven't testet them. And I never used CM 11.
I have a Developers Edition, XT-1055, US Cellular. It is unlocked and rooted. And running Lollipop 5.1.
Just love it. So much better than Kitkat. Great battery life. No problems, just the annoyance of Lollipop from time to time. Sometimes I have to 'Forget' or is it "Unpair" my BT connection with my speaker, and then pair it again to restore the volume level. And I don't like "improved" feature(s) to set my phone to quiet or vibrate modes. Kitkat was much more intuitive in that aspect.
With TWRP installed, I can do a full backups of the phone.
The phone portion is better/easier to do, but less intuitive; as in easier touch functions but more touches to do a phone call. But the voice commands really scream with Lollipop. Motorola has it right. Recognizes my voice and commands, nearly flawless! So much better that when I was using KitKat. Great with driving. Now, if I could just remember those commands!! LOL!
Good luck with your decision.
I have an XT1053 Developer Edition, unlocked bootloader, TWRP, etc, and I run stock 4.4.4. mainly because of the battery life and the sensitivity of the Active Display feature. My second choice would be Nexus Experience ROM (NX) because it incorporates almost all of the special stock features of the Moto X, and it has a very stock experience. The only reason I don't use it is because the Active Display isn't as sensitive and I have to move the phone more to activate that feature. It's a small thing but I'm very picky. I may get over it and move to NX eventually.
As far as battery life goes, on 4.4.4 I unplug at 7am and by 10:30pm I usually have 50% battery left, sometimes more. However, I'm a Nazi when it comes to keeping unnecessary background processes from hogging power and/or using mobile data. But even when I watch videos and play music carelessly I've never been in the red. I don't even own a car charger. I can't speak about the battery life on NX ROM because I didn't use it that long.
I'm still considering moving to NX as I'm writing this... I may do a fresh backup of 4.4.4 and run NX today to see how it goes.
Edit: Btw, NX ROM for the Moto X 2013 is 5.1.
I have an Motorola G6 Play XT1922-3 and after the Pie update the screen becomes randomly unresponsive, every 3-5 minutes or so. Locking and unlocking the phone fixes the issue but it's really annoying, especially if you have some kind of security on the lock screen; also I don't think is a hardware issue since only this method works, nothing 'physical' works (like slaps, bumps, etc. ).
Do you know some kind of fixes for this?
When my Moto G6 got the first Pie update it was laggy. All over the place random laggy. The fix that was suggested (and it worked) was to reflash the phone with the RSD lite tool and the same OTA rom from https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/ali/official/RETUS/. Note make sure you grab the correct rom from https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/ and the correct channel for you specific device.

I've been struggling with the same issues as the first poster - random screen freeze until the phone is locked and unlocked which I also think is some sort of software issue since updating to Pie. Has anyone managed to find a fix for this at all?

A friend of mine had his G6 lagging a lot, factory reset did the trick for him.
I and currently using Descendant 3, but in my experience it has other issues, so, I would suggest the factory reset, or rooting stock Pie, if you are into that sort of thing.
