Hi,
I want to ask if it is possible to limit fps in games to get better battery life. I saw on benchmarks that Tegra 2 actually doesn´t have fps limiter like SGS 2.
PS: I don´t know much about this. Correct me if I´m not true.
Hi im thinking of buying a nice phone for playing games is xperia t right thing. How are games like modern combat 4 , nfs most wanted, spiderman, dark knight rises running on this device . Plz give a quick response
Out of the box, it works OK until it gets hot. There have been numerous threads about thermal throttling kicking in after a while and killing performance - do a search rather than creating an 'urgent' new thread next time.
Having said that, if you are prepared to root then this thread may keep your performance up:

This phone gets HOT when playing games? i thought its 28nm cpu will stay cool. Should i buy xperia T or should i buy htc one XL for gaming
by the way i researched alot and could not find a similar threat.
Most new phones have some sort of heat issue and thermal throttling. I would recommend trying the games on the handsets to see exactly what you feel about it.

I am running now at 192 - 1458MHz, both cores always on, when the heat is going over about 65°C, CPU is throttled to 1188MHz (and less), still with both cores on. When I am gaming a little longer, CPU temperature is going up to 75°C and battery temperature does not exceed 50°C while connected to wall charger.
All games I know are running smoothly this way.
These temperatures should be fine. If anything goes wrong with these temperatures, then it's a bad device.
Thing that is low on T, is RAM. I would recommend something with 2GB. I believe there will be games with 2GB requirement soon. And T has only 640MB available RAM for applications. And system is using about 300 - 400MB. The rest of RAM is low even for browser and low for future gaming, at least now in ICS.
And internal memory chip has not very good performance. For example SenseMe Slideshow (plastic frames) never makes smooth slideshow. Opening phone or SMS app takes almost 2 seconds. Opening NFS Most Wanted takes about 15 seconds (and this procedure kills all opened apps, very nice. Etc.
I am not telling it's a bad device, I like it (except wifi, that one drives me mad. But I recommend something else for heavy gaming.

Out of curiosity, ¿what rom/kernel combo are you using?. I'm interested in undervolting and underclocking my device.
I used Siyah kernel while I was on Timin8r's stock rom, but now I'm running AOKP and I don't know any current kernel compatible with that.
Siah kernel, but works on stock kernel too (except 192MHz). Values are changed manually.
i have already ordered the Xperia T But hope that it will not dissapoint me Devices with 2GB are out of my reach and in my country i found xperia T the fastest in my current budget
You won't be disappointed. It is good device. But has some disadvantages. Just like other devices.

I'm sure you will enjoy it. The Xperia T is quite fast and capable.
One more question , Does modern combat 4 run smooth on this device ? And are the graphics high like s3?

Its got f*** all to do with ram. 1gig is enough. We get full effects like the galaxy s3, and as mentioned in earlier comments adjusting the throttling works wonders. This game never lags for me.

Gameloft have started adding graphics setting to their games which is a good move, so I imagine MC5 will have them. Dunno about dead trigger 2 but they normally optimize their games well. I have a lot of games, they all work fine after reducing the thermal throttling. Only problems you might face is games being unavailable such as a few flu titles, but device spoofing takes care of that. My phone sometimes shuts down from online gaming because the battery can't take the stress, but as long as the throttle allows 12420000 or lower it rarely happens unless battery is low. Plus a friend is trying to make a fix for it, by putting out a voltage based on averages, rather than having a voltage that is too high then it dropping too low under pressure . Also its the same chip as USA version of GS3

Dead Trigger 1 plays smooth on my Cortex A5 800Mhz and Adreno 200. :\ Few lags here and there but nothing noticeable... I think this will handle Dead Trigger 2... Subway Surfers lags like hell though.
How about N.O.V.A 3 and MC4? I just worry about constant non-playable frame rates. I can't judge by YouTube. Do you get smooth experience with Adreno 225?

Yeah its pretty good. My shutdowns are getting bad though. If you get one of these get one with a 1780mah battery, the 1850mah is fatally flawed

I am actually getting 1750mah Xperia TX.
Good! @peetr_ is going to replace his with a 1780mah variant, if this solves the problem I may have to do this too

GTA VC is pretty much unplayable with extreme stutter and low frame rates, carmageddon suffers from the same, and NFSMW and real racing 3 have low frame rates. max payne 3 has passable framerates though.
anyone else's xperia z performs absolutely terribly at 3d gaming? it was like this on stock; nothing changed with FXP CM10.1. is this a software or hwardware issue? i think a quadcore with adreno 320 should be performing much better than this.

thing is, the performance is equally poor on CM - is it something to do with kernel or something?

I dont know, some people might tell you its the 1080p issue screen that is causing the lagging but I dont think its that. was your phone hot while trying to play? the cpu might be down clocking due to heat.

it does get pretty warm, but i'm not sure cpu throttling would cause it become that slow, especially when the rest of the UI is fine. in fact, it stutters and is slow even before the phone gets hot.

I am not suffering this issues, or at least not so badly.
GTA VC is marked as not compatible with XZ in Play Store, anyway I have it and it works perfectly, it is like 20 to 30 fps, but perfectly playable, in fact it runs faster than it was in PS2, but with much better graphics.
Carmageddon is butter-smooth, it feels like 60 fps all the time, I am at number 63 in the classification and enjoying it so far.
Real Racing runs at about 25fps but perfectly playable.
And I have not tested NFSMW or Max Payne.
EDIT: I have just tried GTA VC, the first time I try it after. 253 update, and I am impressed of how smooth it is, I think it is running between 5 to 10 fps faster than before. Not perfect, but very, very playable

I only have Real Racing, it run smoothly for me, no issue so far.
Just install BoostMyXperia

I have NFSMW and runs not smooth at all but still playable. Atm i'm installing GTA VC to told you how runs on my XZ.
Take a look at this:
GTA VC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hy0h5OU-FAA
NFS MW: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3uJP1H6qkc
Real Racing 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSg0dId9BAc
i think mine runs a little bit better than this, since .253 update. Also some apps thap reviously crashed when enabling experimental GPU acceleration, now work perfectly. If yours is running worst than on this videos, then there is something bad with your phone/software.
PS: the videos do not belong to me, they are just random youtube videos i have found.
Hey guys,
I wanted to show you a small PPSSPP benchmark video which I captured on my Z3+
I cooled down phone and started to test PPSSPP performance. As you see it gets 100% speed on half of the video, than fps falls dramaticaly( I get higher drops when scene is heavier - around 10-13 fps).
So I really wonder if you experience the same problem on your devices or my example is faulty....
Noone has tested PPSSPP or Heavy games on Z3+ ?
Heaviest gaming I do is "Respawnables" - it's probably not stretching the hardware much.
ye it's not that heavy but I will try it if I get negative answer from service center to replace my phone with new

Is your phone become hotter after some time playing?
Do you notice that when the fps dropped, the CPU core speed drop from 1.3GHz to 864MHz?
That why fps dropped

maybe the emulator not ready/optimized for SD810 yet.
how about stamina mode. did u enable it.

try to search for ppsspp correct settings for your phone to run smoothly.
its all in the settings man.
In some games i get lag spike like gta san anders play on medium seatings and rawensword 2 i use game tuner but not help . how to increase performance for gaming maybe custom kernel or overcloking if its possible for it or some kind programs I'm new in android staff.
If the graphics on the 815 don't work for you then surely don't replace it with an 813/819. The GPU is supposed to be better on the one you have.
I don't think these are gaming tablets really. I don't know any that are but that's not my thing. They do have more RAM and better screens than most other tablets.
any other option ?
Maybe Apple is better for gaming? I really don't know. Hopefully a clueful individual will answer you. I am too new to the whole tablet world to know much.
i find gltools maybe its improve performance i see a lot of video of it . but its need root access? who have experience from it ?
I guess you could change the thread title and perhaps get more help.
bump any suggestion? i need to improve performance for some games not to much a bit game now rawensword runs 20 fps sometime drops to 15 in fights :/ i like to boost to 30 fps any suggestion i try different programs but no luck :/
The issue is simple. The Exynos version throttles like mad with continuous high usage (games and video SW rendering). And you can do nothing about it. From what I read, the snapdragon version doesn't throttle as bad/at all. I recommend switching to android 6 if you haven't done that already, as it increases the performance by a little bit, as well as setting the resolution in those heavier game to 50% and force capping the frame rate to 30.

I've had the exact opposite experience.
The snapdragon version lags with many games while the exynos version played all these games smoothly...

It's certainly peculiar. I couldn't play Asphalt 8 for too long without setting the resolution all the way down to 50%(1024x768). At 1080p it'd start lagging really bad on me in about 3-4 minutes at best. That doesn't mean it doesn't have an adequate overall performance, it's flying, but anything as heavy as asphalt or worse would bring it to its knees.
strange in asphalt 8 i have no lag run rely smoothly only san andres and rawensword run not what great san andres 25~28 medium graphic rawensword 22 in fight with max distance other setting cant change.
For 5.1 I was using optimal rom found in development section. He also made a kernel you could over clock with synapse support found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-s2/development/nn-kernel-lp-t701-t3309570.com With synapse you can force the gpu to over clock along with cpu. Download synapse from market. In setting developer options turn off hardware overlays ticking that on will use the gpu for rendering. Off (default) cpu. At least that is my understanding. Some games work better with it on others off. Minecraft on I got 60fps at 2nd highest view distance using customers textures. Yet terraria would stutter on certain conditions but never a problem with it turned off. Warning though it will make your device hot where the cpu is. I've got no idea how well you're games will play as I have never played them. I did get a noticeable difference from stock vs the above. So maybe it's an option worth trying.
Hm thx for advise but i read all posts but i don't see anything say it's for 6.0 marshmallow and my it's sm-t815 lite version i only see 810? Maybe its work for my device ?
Might be too different. Not sure.

You have mobile data and I just have WiFi. Everything else seemed the same.
On my xoom it was from Verizon I flashed WiFi only rom and kernels. Lost mobile data but all was fine. As long as the kernal matched the rom. Worse case recover backup or Odin MM back on it. Just use the kernel with a 5.1 810 rom plus whatever you need to root it. I used that kernel with a few different romps but never cm since that's liable to be experimental still on my death bed. So it felt compatible with any 810 rom. If I was you and didn't mind losing cellular data I would treat it as an 810. Maybe do a bit more research and make sure they really are similar.
its same i see ok but one question if i flash this kernel how much i can improve performance like gta san andres can i play max at normal frame rate become on max now i have 17~21 fps i ask it become i was thinking its wort or not don't want to lose warranty
If you don't want to lose warranty then stock it is. That's my advise. I highly doubt you would break it but still if you dropped it in get it. You want that available. I've seen root options that don't trip Knox but I didn't care to research because I didn't have a warranty. I knew using ct auto root would void warrenty (method I used) before doing it. Search for different rooting options to 810.
I get not wanting to void warranty but if you're over clocking it, rooting, accept it as a trade off. You replied before I edited my last post so maybe reread. They are slightly different.
um when how about performance in gaming ? there i mention it i read it make 2.0ghz for 4 core and for others 1.5 or 1.6 it make huge boost in game or just small i rely care about it. ?
That sounds right. And the gpu goes up to 700hz. I think stock is 600. I don't play the games you are so can't say for sure performance but it was noticeable for me. I set both cpu min 1,000 max whatever max it allowed like you mentioned. So if it needed cpu it was there. Gpu I did max because there is a noticeable difference going from 600 to 650 to 700. Put the min as the max. Then toggle on turn off hardware overlays. Other games preferred the opposite. Max cpu for both and min close to max, whatever for gpu and no toggle for turn off hardware overlays.
Don't do max cpu and max Gpu. To much heat without any improvement. Pick one or the other as max, other one able to if needed. Here is what I ended up with.
Mine craft liked the first option. Not sure what it was playing at before over clocking. Maybe 30-40 fps while flying in creative mode. Got up to 60 fps no stuttering unless I was at a huge super dense forest biome where you couldn't see the ground. Probably used 25% per hour. I know mine craft doesn't sound like much but I had fancy on (transparent leaves), 128bit textures, 2nd highest view (it was far), and flying really fast in creative. Even bought a controller because of it. Though it actualy plays and feels better without. To wierd.
Terraria preferred all cpu so second option. Again you think but it's 2d. It isn't optimized by any means. Even on pc that game uses more then one would believe. I played at 60 fps with no slowdowns on second option. Without over clock it would stutter fairly easily vs completly smooth. It felt like whoever programed the cpu made sure they never gave enough power at any given time as a cruel joke. With synapse I could set the min as max and over clock it.
All I can say in the end it is noticable. It was enough to get 60fps. For a 2d game, it wasn't worth playing unless it was so. Download terraria dig a bit underground, get some lighting going and some enemies. Notice the wonderful stutter and ask why, it's 2d. Then you can decide if that vs 60 fps is worth the void warrenty and possibly broken device achieving it.
can y try gta san andres on max with overclock your system ? i'm rely curios
No.
