I am planning to root my moto g2 xt1068. But i have a few questions :
1. Will my phone be able to receive OTA updates (including lollipop) after rooting?
2. Will the warranty get permanently void even if i unroot my phone?
-------------------------
Ans
1. NO ( You won't be able to recieve the official ota updates once u have rooted ur smartphone )
2. YES

i also contact the moto care
they said u'll not be able to recieve ota once u root and even after unrooting...but i haven't tried so there's 50-50 chance ..better if wait for the ota and then root

That's a shame. So if someone is rooted need to flash stock firmware, then upgrade via ota to L and then root again. Boring.

If believe that as long as u did a backup on twrp u will be able to. I have used twrp back ups for my m8 that my friends gave me. So i dont see why it wont work. You should be ok. @adrynalyne or @zathus what do you guys think?
I dont think twrp will work for non roor users and probably i will lose root after update too

I've made roms from nandroids in the past. So its possible, though I'd feel more comfortable extracting the image from Motorola.

you will have the bootloader unlocked so once u take the update flash twrp again and then flash supersu file from chainfire within twrp and u have root back.
Edit: If i am wrong please someone correct me but this is what it seems can be done.

He means, go to Settings>About Device and look what the Android Version is. If it is 5.0 then do not bother looking to root your device...it's not possible on an ATT device with Android 5.0 right now.

yea its 5.0, is it possible to downgrade it? if it is, what version do you think is good enough to root?
You can't downgrade if you're already on 5.0, and even if you could, you can't install anything beyond Touchwiz (Samsung) based ROMs because of a locked bootloader.
Let me know if you have any luck

Thank you for posting this question because I am in the exact same situation. I have an AT&T Galaxy S 5 Android 5.1.1. I was never interesting in rooting my phone until just recently and have been doing some light reading on Life Hacker to learn more and it brought me here. I just wanted to clarify your comment above. Are you saying that having the phone that I/we have we are completely out of luck if we wanted to root/modify our phones? Forever or just until something changes down the road?
Well I sold my at&t s5 and ordered a unlocked tmobile s5 to use on at&t with my sim card because you can root the tmobile version. I hope one day soon someone will figure out how to root it I believe it will be done soon just keep checking back on here.

I don't think that will work, the firmware listed there is 4.4.2 which is KitKat, you can not downgrade to KK if you are on lollipop or marshmallow, you could soft brick or worse. I would not attempt this unless you are actually on KK.

For future reference, don't give these unsure ideas to people and tell them to update their phones like this. At the moment, YOU CANNOT GET ROOTED LOLLIPOP 100% of the time unless you were/are on 4.4.2 KitKat with root (use Towelroot) and update through muniz_ri's update method. Trying to downgrade to KitKat will result in a bricked device as the thread previously mentioned.
The reason why root persists on 5.0 when you update it via this method is due to using the older bootloader which doesn't verify the system's integrity the same way the newer bootloaders do.

Hey mrmazak,
Thanks for your development and the support of this community with Dirtycow.
To clarify, are you seeing any exploits that could be leveraged in order to root and it will take more time for development, or is it just out of the question?
Thanks,

Blu has changed preloader since v6.6. no access to preloader from sptf, so no flashing, no root
Thanks mrmazak,
Anytime sooner will there be root ?
No, there will not be root. The security holes have been plugged. The tools used to modify the phones have been blocked.
If you installed a recent over-the-air update, you are out of luck - no recovery, no flashing, no rooting. Period. End of story. Done.
Never accept an over-the-air update for a phone that you want to root or modify.

Wow **** blu.
Guess I'll just return it, you know, cause **** sales too!
Sorry, I am new to rooting with many of my phones and I am getting very frustrated at how many developers patch the root. I used to think Android was friendlier for root than iOS is for jailbreaking, don't think so anymore.
Is there a root friendly list of phones new you have on this forum up-to-date?
Sort of hard to buy a phone requesting from the seller to have the "right version" on it. Ex.) blu phone prior to v6.6.
Thanks.

If you have custom recovery , then yes. The dirty cow part is only needed to allow bootloader unlock. So once it's unlocked and you have recovery , should be no problem to root

Hey bud , unfortunately if you have oreo u cannot update. There are many apps you can try yourself like kingroot. But there is not possivle way of rooting it unless u get into hacking your phone , then i recommend going by this thread : https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g6/help/starting-scratch-t3837452

If you have an H872, then all you have to do is follow this. Read it several times to make sure you understand, and Google videos if needed to make sure you understand. @pena020563 gave you the answer you need, albeit in a cryptic manner - his link will eventually take you to the link I supplied above. And I don't know why he even mentioned Kingroot. The method I am linking you to is, as far as I know, the only way to root an H872. Don't bother with anything else.
Had you looked just a little harder, you know...scrolled down a quarter of the page, you would have found the link I gave you all on your own.
Good luck!

what's your problem with this xda guide? I think it's simple enough but you have to carefully understand what you have to do (just read carefully). If you don't want to leave windows you can use virtual machine (which I believe is more complicated to setup and need more PC resources).
