[Q] Buggy GPS, am I the only one? - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I'm having GPS issues with my phone. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same.
I'm getting a decently long lock time and then afterwards, every 10-15 mins I'm getting a lock loss followed by a little delay then a lock again.
In case it helps, I'm on stock build KTU84P.N910TUVU1ANJ7.
Consequentially, if someone could help me out by giving me the following files from their phone, it'd be really appreciated:
/system/lib/hw/gps.default.so
/system/lib/libloc_core.so
/system/lib/libloc_api_v02.so
/system/lib/libloc_eng.so
/system/etc/gps.conf

Same here.. Across ROMs(NJ7 based ROM and stock NJ7) as well. Did the compass calibration but didn't fix it. Navigation on this phone is pretty terrible since it loses gps every 15 minutes like what you're seeing.. Any suggestions from anyone would be great!

I flashed the new baseband and still am having the issue of a buggy GPS...

I did have initial issues.
But the compass calibration seems to have resolved most of those.
Though yesterday I did lose the gps signal, which I thought was weird.
It was the first time it did that which I can remember.

It's happened to me on all my Note phones. Samsungs gps is less than spectacular.

Ya I'm having the same issue it doesn't matter the ROM still same issue. But think its a Samsung firmware issue. It works for me initially on a trip A to B but seems way back B to A it stops. Didn't have this issue with note 3. Part of my reason for bigger phone is GPS use so this is irritating. If not fixed with lollipop might have to change.

My Note 4 is currently completely stock/unrooted NK4, and I've seen the same thing - GPS works for several minutes, dies for about 5 seconds, then comes back. I've also once had GPS fail to lock at all until I rebooted the phone. :-/
Oh, well. It's still way better than my old S3 which had been dropped quite a few times.

I'm not having any gps issues. The new updated maps is doing it for me.
But, on other phones I have installed the faster fix app when having gps issues. It can be acquired in the playstore:

[Q] Any luck with designgears JH7_OTA.zip?

Before taking the plunge I am looking for success/problem comments from those who have failed with OTA and then tried the JH7_OTA.zip approach.
I have searched and I don't see many comments yet.
It flashed fine for me but now GPS is causing my phone to lock up. Happens if I turn off GPS and just now happened in google maps while driving. Had to pull the battery to reset.
Worked great for me. GPS is working like a champ too.
Thanks to all who worked so hard on the flash.
I updated with the JH7_OTA.zip and it went well, but my phone is worse than before... laggier, bottom buttons seem less responsive (could be due to the increased lag) and the GPS will not see any satellites and much less, lock. I'm sure it's not the file... just another defective unit. This is my fourth Captivate. First two simply lost the ability to connect to 3G and WIFI, the third had a great GPS but the search function would randomly self activate and the body creaked like an old rocking chair, and my current one.

This happened to me. You don't need to pull the battery. Just hold the up volume button and power button for about 10 seconds and the phone will shut off.
Edit Disregard my post.
It's working great for me. I usually stream radio during the day and it usually will drop out once or twice an hour. Today, it has been streaming just perfectly with no dropouts. Thanks to all of those that got this working!!!!
No problems here, either. I did remove my previously installed LagFix first, and I flashed over JH3. GPS seems to track me a little better than before, and it does seem that perhaps the radio is working a bit better and battery life is slightly better as well.
I have the same commute on the train each morning, and pretty much do the same routine each time, so that's a good way for me to compare things after a change. This morning I noticed that my streaming radio barely cut out at all in areas where the signal is low, much less than before, and when I got into work my remaining battery PCT was a little better than usual. I applied the RyanZ lag fix from the market this afternoon and overall am pretty happy so far!
My GPS is still jacked up.

Worked great for me. everything working including the 3 button, usb, and better gps/compass. Things other people were complaining about not working. I flashed odin and rooted with update.zip before i applied this rom.
luck? Sure... but...
I went with the Cognition ROM as JH7_OTA didn't do the trick for me.. All in all I like the Cog experience (install went smoothly, seems fast, no weird errors), but the GPS is definitely not fixed. Accuracy is better in that my phone can locate me on the neighborhood level, but it is still not locking and is locating me blocks away from where I'm actually at.
Worked great for me.
No problems flashing for me. That is the answer to your question, now to issues I had.
HSUPA was not working for me. So I did the revert HSUPA to get 3G back and it killed all data for me. So I did a nandroid back to my previous ROM and then I got FC so I had to Odin and then reinstall my nandroid. That is why I don't like his zip, it works fine but if you want to change ROM's you have to basically flash odin to make sure you have no issues. That is how it was for me, others might be different and then you have the nut swingers who are only for Cognition.
I will say this issue happened to me 3 times. I think the issue might stem from being unable to remove voodoo since it is packaged into his zip. Not positive why I had the issue but for the time being I am trying other alternatives.
Last edit: Just went back to his Cognition thread and see that he pulled the HSUPA zip, so it wasn't just me having issues. Unfortunately stuff like that lets me know that all in one package zips like that need to be worked on more.

you probably should have removed the voodoo lagfix to try to flash other roms since clockwork DOES NOT work with voodoo
alternatively you can install cognition, and install a different kernel if you dont want voodoo lagfix...
flashed it and it's great! except the gps is kind of on and off.

[Q] Are GPS and lag problems fixed by installing Froyo ?

Time to replace my old HTC Diamond isn't ? On paper, the Galaxy seems by far the best option. However, users complain about GPS, which is very important to me, and lag which is quite annoying.
Are those problems solved when installing Froyo ? I don't mind modifying the phone as I have been doing it for a couple years with the Diamond.
The next best option seems to be the Nexus 1. I really don't know what to do !
Comments ?
The GPS problem is not fixed (at least for me) in Froyo JPK. If GPS is a key feature for you I would advise to wait for official Froyo to see if the GPS is fixed, or, alternatively, buy a different Android phone.
The lag problem is not fixed either, however you can root the phone and install Voodoo or one-click lag fix and that does fix the lag.
I love my Galaxy S but if GPS is really important to you then it is not the phone for you.
for me neither of the lag fixes actually impact on the day to day use of the phone, it still lags.
Yes my quadrant scores are a hell of alot faster but in real life the homescreen with widgets open still stutters
I am in the same boat currently, im impatient, but luckily in the position that if when froyo arrives it solves the issues, i can always go and purchase another SGS
There are numerous users who have experianced hardly any lag and good GPS performance, i unfortunatley am not one of those people no matter what rom i use

+1
as for lag, real lag fix eg voodoo makes it fine for me, but froyo currently does not fix lag. Maybe final.
With the Galaxy Tab Froyo released and open source code as well we might see better fixes.
GPS not fixed in JPK.

GPS is fixed with JPK.. it locks in less then 3sec. even got a look inside in about 5sec.. big improvement.
Problem is not the fix but the accuracy.
Keep in mind, everyone is testing with beta releases. The final release might change everything..

To me, it looks like a software issue rather than gps hardware

But realistically, we have no way of knowing for sure..
GPS works like a charm on jpk here, I've been to several addresses this week already!
Lag, .. what lag? oh the occasional 1 or two second waiting for an app to open that happen once or twice the week? Not a real turn-down though =/
And within the -4 weeks of abusing jpk i had maybe twice or trice that it was very sluggish, pretty much locking up or freezing up,.. while acting normal later on.
Happy about it, but it's missing the finishing touch i had in the original rom (certain options)
jpk+oclf
Thank you all for your interesting comments. Mike, your GPS tracks convinced me. I understand that not all SGS have the GPS problem but I don't want to take the chance and get a bad one. I ordered a N1, which is back-ordered for about 2 weeks - if a fix comes for the GPS before I receive the N1, I'll cancell the order to get a SGS.

[Q] A2DP and Mobile Data problem with official ICS ROM

Hey guys! This is my first post on XDA, though I've been using it for quite a while.
I'm not exactly looking for answers/solutions, but rather sharing my problem and see if someone else is having them too.
I have a Latin American version of the I91000 (TTT). I recently upgraded to ICS using the official firmware from Samfirmware (UHLPE). At first everything looked great. The performance improvement was noticeable from the first bootup. Not only was it faster, but the intro video was far smoother and looked nicer. The general UI changes are very nice, and I did notice an improvement in battery life.
However, I've been experiencing a couple of glaring issues that really mared the experience enough to make me want to go back to Gingerbread, which I will probably do.
These are the problems:
1. The mobile data connection is very unstable. Sometimes it just doesn't load anything, and sometimes I lose the signal altogether. The 3G/H/H+ icon disappears and all. I never had this problem in GB during the 6 months I've had this phone.
2. The Bluetooth audio connection also has problems. It's now more unstable and susceptible to interference, and the lag is also much more noticeable now. It was about .5 seconds before, but now it's more than a full second.
But that's not the worst issue. The media remote control functions just stopped working altogether, namely, the |<< , >>| , >/|| buttons on my headset. I have a Nokia BH505 Bluetooth headset, and I didn't have any of these problems before either.
So that's it. I would like to know if someone else is experiencing one or both of these issues. I'll also check the Samfirmware forums to look for replies on the matter. Thank you for your feedback.

[Q] GPS losing signal

Hi,
I have a brand new stock Nexus 6. I have just finished configuring it and started to use Navigation. I can see that the GPS is loosing signal ("looking for satellites") every couple of minutes, rather randomly, for some 10-20 seconds. I use GPS Status to check this. I have trying to search net for anyone with similar issues, but not found anything. Has anybody seen this behavior before, or should I have the device repaired/replaced?
Mine is perfect so far. I used navigation for more than 400 km with 230 km the longest without stopping, no problem at all. Navigation software was Nokia HERE. GPS was strong, quick and reliable.
GPS is set to device mode.
Stock ROM, stock kernel, stock recovery, not rooted.
Please check apps, probably there is one causing your problem. Otherwise probably you got defective one ?

Thanks. I will try device mode and see if this helps. If not I will have the device replaced

Terrible GPS Performance

I've noticed lately that my G920T has a terrible time keeping GPS lock. Definitely a pain when I'm trying to use Waze or other GPS apps. It seems to be significantly worse in my car but overall, GPS Status reports that most satellite signal health is bad. I don't have a case on my phone, so I really have no idea what could be the issue. I've tried resetting AGPS to no effect.
I'm currently on XtreStoLite 3.3.1, running Arter's kernel, but I have experienced this issue on other kernels as well.
I've been noticing this too. Especially when driving. It seems to happen most when an app installs/updates in the background. Toggling GPS on and off in quick settings fixes it, but it's inexcusable and impossible to do while driving, when you need it most.

Are you running greenify? You'd have to toggle doze off... If not download the gps conf files from online and use the appropriate one for your geographic region.
I've experienced similar, as well as some other random stuff that I won't get into here, started about 5 weeks ago. Basically seems to come down to having power saving enabled and maybe screen off (I'm almost always running power save). Francis might be onto something with doze, but it shouldn't be disabling GPS while it's actively running in an app (navigation, fitness trackers, etc) whether PS enabled or screen on or not. I've had this phone since last October, done a few different ROMs, but I'm currently stock (EPF1) with just root, no other mods and have been in that state for several months (because I've been lazy), no updates or anything. Tried removing apps that might have been installed recently at the time, to no avail. No clue what the deal is, but I'm gonna flash some custom ROMs again, which hopefully solves whatever bug issue this is.
Don't think I provided any solution, but wanted to give some input as I had similar issues.
I discovered the problem. I was using Arter97's kernel. Re flashed the kernel that comes with the ROM; GPS works much better.
