Hey guys, my N6 is coming on thursday, and I recieved a nano-sim (4ff) from verizon to activate on my old device (galaxy nexus) with an adapter to ensure that it would be ready to swap over when the n6 arrived. I just popped it in and booted the phone and got a message "The Sim Card detected is not compatible with your device, please insert a compatible SIM or visit your nearest Verizon Wireless store..."
There are options to 'use network as is' or 'don't use this network' in the settings. I don't want to mess anything up on my account, did anyone else run into this issue?

Your new SIM is LTE, the GNex is 3g. Try it in an LTE phone if you have one.

The galaxy nexus is a 4gLTE phone. I think I'm just going to go into the store and have them activate the card for me tomorrow though.
edit: it's the verizon 4g varient

I just called customer service, got it activated and calls work but I'm having some data issues. Will report back after a reboot. It could also be ROM related.
Edit: data works!

what did they say was the problem?
not sure, their website says that using adapters is a no go in order to 'provide optimal service', but I told the newest customer service rep that I spoke with that tech support sent me the nano early for an expected new device and that it was okay and it worked. However, we had to add the imei of my gnex because data didn't work initially.
Just came from GNex 2 days ago to N6
I used my micro sim, (LTE) and cut it down with the Aerb sim cutter I bought from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009P16FKY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It worked flawlessly in cutting the SIM down, just had to sand some minor burrs along the edge with the included sandpaper. Popped the SIM in and has worked perfectly. Texts, phone, LTE everything. The cutter also comes with an adapter that I can use to pop the SIM back into my GNex as backup if I have any problems as well.
As an aside, I had been reading boards for over a month on the size, screen and battery of the N6 being subpar. All of it is baloney. It feels good in the hand, the screen is great (although admittedly not as good as the Note 4), is super fast and I have been getting good battery life as well.

1) is your Nexu6 on Vzw?
2) im sure devs will get the screen temps worked out and get better colors...
Yes, GNex is a VZW only phone. BTW I did order a backup nano SIM from VZW customer service (I heard stores get you varied results) as a backup in case my cut didn't work. I just told them I bought an HTC One M8 from ebay and that I needed a new SIM. They fedex'd it to me an now I have it here as backup also. I just don't need to go through activation with the old micro SIM - merely cut and replace and good to go!

Going to pickup a galaxy note on one of my family plan upgrades. Going to have my number transfered to the note sim which is LTE. What happens to my old sim card in the thrill if I don't give it to them? I am keeping the thrill also, and the upgrade # will still be used on my son's non smart phone. If they deactivate the thrill sim, will a LTE sim work in the thrill?
I may just give the thrill to my other son if I can't swap the sim back and forth. Have never had a problem with this phone and really don't want to give it up but, after some hands on time with the note, I just can not see not getting one. It's a beast of a phone and with my big hands it is the perfectly size.
LOL, I digress. Anyone have any insights to the sim questions?

They just turn it off. I got a new sim for my thrill from at&t and they gave me my old sim back. I guess it just doesn't work anymore. But I've never checked it.
Newer sim cards will always be backwards compatible. (In fact, leave the Note IMEI on your line so you have all compatible data gateways as well.)

either a sturdy piece of paper or a thin piece of plastic(like what comes with the cheap screen protectors. trim it to slightly less than the width of the sim slot. slide it under the sim to slightly past half way and hold it there while sliding the sim out. this way the micro sim tray doesnt catch on the pins. easy to do and it wont damage a thing.... just dont force anything...if it doesnt come relative easily then reposition the piece you made till it becomes easy....
btw get yourself a reg 4g sim the microsims arent hspa+ capable from what im told ... unsure on that but my note is faster than my friends that uses the same settings but a micro sim...

Can anyone confirm this? That does not sound good for me. I had planned on using my unlimited Ipad micro sim in my new Note. You think I can get a full size data sim and tell ATT I lost my Micro sim and that I just want cut an existing sim that I already own.
Thank you for the tips. HSPA+ works just fine and is better than the iPhone (signal wise)

Micro SIMs are no different than full-sized SIM cards. HSPA+, LTE, or whatever else works just the same on a micro-SIM as a regular one. However, using a micro-SIM in your SGN is risky. You can really **** up your SIM slot pins.

I have an adapter that I use when I put my ipad sim in my laptop. Now that I dont have an ipad, I think I will try to get ATT to change the sim to full size one. It can be a pain removing sim and adapter. It's truly a pita to get the adapter and sim in and out of my mifi.
actually sims are different...depending how long you have had the sim it could be for the 3g and not set up properly for the 4g and now the lte.... easiest way is to walk into an att with the micro sim and ask if it is a 4g capable one...
i personally know that a sim can make a big difference in speeds as i had an older sim (3g) from an iphart 3gs... i used it in my samsung omnia 2 and it worked ok but hspa+ was never faster... a friend who worked there told me about the new sim cards that they were rolling out that were 4g capable because they were turning on 4g in some markets with the tampa bay area being one of the test areas... it made a huge difference in my omnia but not in a iphart because the iphart is not hspa+ capable...not even the treasured 4s...
as for getting a new sim... they really dont care to give you one and even if you have an i product and you request a full size one, just tell them you use it in a 3gs at times when you travel... they could care less...they arent making a dime off of it so they will give it just to get you gone to get a "paying" customer... plus if they try to charge you tell them tmo will give you a free one... but the corporate stores arent supposed to charge you anyway.....
with the right sim and the right apn you can load just as fast as the att version... i ran mine side by side and both did consistent 14,000 to 18,000 speeds.... and i dont have the att bloatware!!
hope this ramble was helpful ...
My stupid experience!
1. Got my SGN from Singtel, charged over night.
2. Went to China the next morning.
3. Put the China mobile SIM into the SGN, it ask for PIN.
4. Took out my Singtel microSIM from Iphone added the adaptor but SGN indicated no SIM card.
5. Try pulling out the microSIM and TATA I broke the pins.
6. Send it to Samsung China and got to pay RMB300 to replace the pins, phone will be back to me next week.
I still have not use the SGN yet!
I have a question?I accidentally put the micro-sim card in the microSD column. Now,i can't get it off.Can u guyz plz help me give me some suggestions .My phone model is Samsung GT-N7000. Please reply fast.Thank you:
As strange as it may sound I want to use a Galaxy Note as an internet only device.
Is there a way that I can use one of the AT&T data only options (Data Connect Plan) on this device?
I currently have the AT&T version of the Galaxy Note. AT&T has confirmed to me that there is no way to have a data only plan for it. I simply to not want to dump $40 dollars a month on a phone service I will not use just to get the right to pay them $30 for data.
So, I am trying to explore if the international version is the answer.
What is important to me is the size and features of the Galaxy Note.
What is not important to me is 4g or phone service.
Any help or definitive answer would be appreciated.
I would imagine it should. ATT won't have a record of your IMEI number so they really don't know what the device is. Other people have been using the non- smartphone data plan on ATT, but the occasionally get booted up to the smartphone plan with so much data usage. Just tell them you have a 3g tablet you want to hook up. I'd buy a new sim card just to make sure you don't have issues with your old account. Not definitive, but just the fact that people are using international notes on dumbphone data says a lot.
AT&T and T Mobile
Hi, I have a unlocked N7000 that I picked up in India earlier this year. I live in the UK and works very well over her on Vodafone. I was in the US last week. I tried AT&T and was told by the techie that it will not work on the 4G network. Then went to T Mobile where I was told it would work only on 2G - Landed up buying a SIM card from them to see that my pre-paid balance dropped drastically and they were very unhelpful when I went back to them - they guy in the store told me that he can not access my use. I did not make any international calls on it at all. I landed up buying a SIMPLE Mobile sim card and it worked well between 3G and 2G. It even worked when I was at Hoover Dam. The Samsung website does give all the platforms it works on and I cant see why it would should not work on AT&T.
Also read the customer reviews of the Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 16GB Unlocked Android Smartphone - Dark Blue on the Amazon US website. One of the users has written up on it. As I am a new user I am not able to put the link on this reply.
Hope it's helpful. Good Luck.
Thanks for the input so far, but...
Well, what I am looking for is the "data only" type of service. This is for USB (Mobile) Modem, tablets, iPad's, etc. AT&T callis it data connect. I currently have the pre-paid version of it for for a 7in. tablet. And it (the service) work just perfect on that device.
I have read lots of posts talking about data, but when you focus in it normally is the other way around, a phone service option where they can't get the data to work correctly.
Again, all I want is data, I don't want phone service. If anyone has done this with their Note, I would appreciate a heads up on how it worked out.
I'm currently using my Note with my ATT ipad sim. Been using that sim in my mifi, a couple of laptops with 3G, an iphone and now my note. Been using it that way since the 3G Ipad first came out 3 years ago. I believe that all the data sims use the same apn. Just enter broadband as the APN. I have seen speeds from 1.9Mbps to 8.2Mbps, usually around 4 until lately...been getting 6.5. I consistently get 1Mbps up. The connection is has been very stable, Skype voice has been working very well.
Your data sim and note will work without modification, just enter the APN. In my case, I made an adapter since the ipad is a micro sim, the store bought adapter I had was too thick for the note. Be very careful when using micro sims, it can be a PTA to get them out. For removal I usually slide plastic or cardboard between the sim and the contact pins so the adapter does not get caught on the pins and then work the sim out with an exacto blade.
If you want ipad service, just go into an ATT and tell them you lost your ipad sim and you left your ipad at home. Who remembers your their data phone number? They will sell you a replacement. Then just barrow someone's 3g ipad, insert your sim, go into settings and create your account with your credit card #. Remove your sim and your done. The other person can put their sim, sign in and that's it. Once a month you get an email saying ATT billed your account and it shows up on your statement.
edit
I just looked at ATT's site, guess it does not matter anymore, they made Data cost the same across the board. Does not matter if it's pre paid, post paid or ipad, it's all the same now.
Just the news I was looking for, THANKS!
Great news. Thanks for taking the time to share that with me.
For any future readers, just to confirm:
A DATA ONLY plan with a 3G sim from AT&T worked fine in the gt-n7000, international version of the galaxy note.
If anyone has information to the contrary please feel free to update this thread.
After seeing the thread about the TMo prepaid plan not compatible with the N7 + 3G I became worried but my N7 and Straight Talk sim(AT&T) arrived today and I can confirm that data functionality is working. I couldn't find any one else on the internet that could actually confirm this so decided to make an informative thread.
As an aside, has anyone else had problems with ST on their N7, TMo or AT&T?

I believe I've read other successful reports of using AT&T ST with their N73G.
However, all the reports so far (which is like 2-3) have been with the AT&T version. I'm curious if the T-Mobile one works too. Since they seem to actively block tablet IMEIs from voice plans, there is a strong possibility it won't.
Have you gotten SMS working on ST?
Mvno have different APN and are never blocked. Solavei works. It does use T-Mobile.
It sounds like you're confirming data, but what about voice calls (not VoIP)?

It's disabled in the ROM and devs haven't figured out how to get it working. So there's no way to actually confirm voice calls working on a SIM.

AT&T SIM with Apple data plans working
I took an AT&T SIM out of an iPhone with the iPhone unlimited data plan and put it into my N7 3G and it is working. I had to create a new APN with the proper settings for it to work. The Broadband APN is for SIMs provisioned with an LTE data plan. I had to setup the old wap.cingular APN.

So you can send and receive SMS but not MMS? I would guess that it's an APN issue. Even people with ST for phones have had issues. It seems to work better if your split data and MMS into two different APNs. Also, don't use a proxy.

I bet the Tmobile issue using a phone sim can be resolved by backing up the the IMEI and corrupting it. Same method used on the original Galaxy Tab to use a phone sim.
As a recent owner of an OG G-Tab I hope for the same thing. However the difference between our Nexus 7 and the OG G-Tab is the presence of the system/efs folder, which one could erase and thereby change the IMEI (apparently after erasing it the IMEI would repopulate and the G-Tab would be recognized as a generic GSM device on whatever network you were on.) The Nexus 7 doesn't have an equivalent folder. From what I've read the efs was unique to Samsung devices.

Hi. Would you mind telling me which T-Mobile UK SIM/Deal you have that works with your N7?
I picked up one of these a couple of weeks ago. It works fine in a MiFi but the N7 just keeps saying that the SIM is being removed and than inserted. Another SIM I've tried seems to work.
I'm using the 4.2.1 update.

Working fine on my N7 3G with a standard T-Mobile PAYG Voice sim (Ordered from T-Mobile Website), Activated it in an iphone to get the free 12 months web then transferred to the N7 3G and works fine, no odd messages like you are getting. Have 3 N7 3Gs at the moment in the family 1 on T-Mobile with the free 12 month web deal. 1 on Virgin with the free 12 month web deal. and one currently on giffgaff that will go on T-Mobile next month (Already have a T-Mobile sim for that one and it works OKas well)
Problem you are having is strange, have you tried other network sims in your N7 to rule out a hardware problem.?

Yep, I've tried a gash GiffGaff SIM I ordered but never used and it seems to work OK. It certainly shows a stable connection to the 3G network but I'm unable to test data because it's not activated.
The one thing I have just noticed is that the TM SIM is noticably thicker than other SIMs, I'm wondering if that is pushing the contacts in the device to a position in which they don't work or touch something they shouldn't. I'll have a look later and see if I can get the SIM in (and, more importantly, out) without the carrier and see if that works.
Could you please direct me to the Virgin deal you have, if all fails I'll try one of those. I would prefer to use the TM SIM in the Nexus but I have a use for it elsewhere if I can't.
Thanks for your reply.

The Virgin one, you have to buy as phone for £30, with the phone you get a sim card with £10 credit and a voucher for 12 Months free internet (1Gb a month) (Its a scratchcard you text the number from the card and it activates straight away so not tied to any type of phone etc). You can of course sell the phone on so that reduces the initial £30 outlay!.
Here is a link to the thread, and there is a link to the deal in there (Although it saves postage if you have a local Virgin store you can pick one up from)

I bought an iphone microsim from here http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/free-text-sim-cards/
I intended putting it in an iPhone 4S I have access to, but that was locked to vodaphone, so I couldn't. I then put £20 on the Sim and purchased a 6 month internet booster (http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/mobile-phones/price-plans/pay-as-you-go/boosters/) That said, the sim worked from the moment I put it in (i.e. before I bought the booster).
I think it was Flashyphotos that detailed how to do it all earlier in this thread.

And yes, the virgin deal doesnt sound too bad at all... better than what I ended up with, but my N7 is working fine away from home on 3g and can text and that will do for now.
I need to figure out a way of making calls on it "just in case", but I'll get there.

I like the T-Mobile deal better than the Virgin one to be honest, the Virgin one has a 1Gb per month hard cap, where the T-Mobile one has a Softcap for Streaming/Torrents at 500Mb (Continues to work after 500Mb but at a throttled rate, and browsing etc is totally unlimited.
So no chance of running into a cap part way through the month like on the virgin one. I think the £20 for 6 months is a really good deal if you cant get the iphone deal or after that runs out, and will be happy to keep paying £20 every 6 months on mine for as long as I can,

Another quick question if I may; was this a microSIM or a normal SIM you cut down? The TM SIM I have is a CombiSIM, the other SIMs I've tried that work are SIMs that have been cut down. Combisim was what we both received.
Think this might be in alot of peoples thoughts but is it any beneficial to use the new sim as opposed to the one that were all mainly using previously (Note 3) , I notice this has ISIS support and i even called tmo and they said mainly no difference other then the ISIS support.
I notice like everyone else about signal, The places i would get 4G im reverting back to EDGE.. kind of weird but my lte is solid but gets weaker where i would usually get 4G
I would like to know also. I just inserted the Sim out of the g3
Note 4
I like the ISIS label as it help those overseas. ha!
Someone told me when you get a new phone, you want to start with anything new. So I just call Tmo and tell them the IMEI number. In less then 1 minute, I am using the new SIM card.
I used my old Note 3 sim, which was an ISIS sim already. My speeds are fine. I'll keep the sim that came with the Note 4 as a backup when I go overseas next month, Incase anything happes.

Use the isis one it's there latest & i red somewhere here the newer Sims allows connections to more towers and frequencies
Does the new Sim come pre activated, or do you need to call in and activate it once the phone arrives? I have an existing account for reference.
I had issues with the ISIS one. The functionality for group messages disappeared from the hangouts app. So I went back to the store and they gave me a non ISIS Sim and now everything works flawlessly.
