Concerned about Nexus 6's size - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
I am considering buying a Nexus 6 as soon as it's available in my country. I've had a Nexus 7 since 2012 and I love the pure Google experience, with the release of the Nexus 6 I think it's finally time for an upgrade from my low end phone.
The only thing that is concerning me is the fact that it's a really large phone and I don't know how I'll adapt to it. I am a student and use public transportation and walk a lot and carrying such a big phone in my jeans pocket doesn't seem very practical (will I even be able to move my leg?). Plus since it's bigger it's harder to conceal from potencial "predators!".
I'd like hear some feedback from users that use a big phone on a daily basis and how they make it more practical, comfortable and safe to use in public. (Besides using a case and having insurance, because I definitely will!!)

I am still waiting for my phone. I have tested one out in a store and can confirm it will not fit in any of my pockets, apart from sticking out the back pocket. This has yet to deter me though, lol. Curious about everyone's opinion though.

its not as big as you imagine it to be. it fits in my back pocket and coat pocket just fine.

Take this for what you want, but after 2 weeks with my Nexus 6, my Galaxy S4 that I keep for work feels small.

I have a case and tempered glass on mine, it's large but fits fine in my front pants pocket and most of my shirt pockets. After a single day of use my nexus 5 feels too small now. I have average size hands and don't find any issues with it except at times pulling down the notification bar.

after a week, my nexus 5 feels small

I was at the bar the other night and the bartender gave me her phone to input my info. It was like a child's toy (iPhone 5 something or other). Trust me: you'll get used to/fall in love with the size in about 24 hours.
In fact, I"d go so far to say that the Nexus 6 has RUINED me for any size under 5.9" now. THANKS GOOGLE/MOTOROLA!!

There's no reason the nexus 6 shouldn't fit in any guys pants pockets.
It's a great device.

After only using phablets, it is one of those things that after you have a bigger phone, you can almost never go back.

Yeah man. Like others have said, you get used to it. I was used to the size within minutes lol. My HTC one m8 feels inadequate and petite. Like I'm holding an old iPhone 5 or something. It feels so natural and I'm not sure how we functioned before

Fits perfectly fine in my front pocket.. as others have said, you get used to it. I was laughing at my wife trying to use the internet on her little iPhone.. how cute.

To be honest it's not a big phone. After using it now for 2.5 weeks I think it could almost be bigger. I came from s G3 which to meet is really tiny and the Nexus is easy for me to use one handed. I'm 5'8" and average build.
The Nexus is much easier to use than my old Note 3. I would try it out and see how you like it.

It fits in my dress pant, but anything else is difficult unless it has thigh pocket. I do agree that after using the phone for a few day, I don't want to go back to a small phone

I live in new York City and my way of getting around the city is exactly like yours op. I walk to the train station, take the train, walk to where I need to be and the phone fits perfectly well in my pocket. I can walk the same as I did before and it doesn't feel any different.
It probably helps I had a oneplus one before this which was 5.5. Sometimes the corner of the phone awkwardly pokes the pockets but it doesn't matter.
If the phone impresses you, get it and then the size will pay off in the long run when getting used to using the device

I got mine a couple weeks ago and it still feels huge and a little awkward to use. However, when I pick up a smaller phone, like the Nexus 5, I find that I don't like that size as much anymore and couldn't imagine giving up the large screen. It fits in any pocket I use just fine. Carrying it isn't an issue.
I am not sure what I will do when the next Nexus (or whatever ) ends up being released since I highly doubt Google will stick with this size of phone. I believe they chose this size simply because the Nexus program was going to end but then the Silver program never took off so they needed a new nexus phone and Motorola's unreleased phablet was the perfect candidate due to timing. I bet they would have rather used the Droid Turbo type platform but Verizon obviously had that phone tied up.
Anyway, if the next Nexus ends up being much smaller it will be hard to go back. I wouldn't go Samsung because I like stock(ish) Android that Google uses so I am really not sure.

Don't buy it if you want to stay normal. Otherwise, your perception of phone screen sizes will be ruined. Everything else will be small once you own the Nexus 6 and you will never would want anything smaller. It ruined me...
I bought the Xperia Z3 a month before I bought the N6 and I thought the Z3 was huge. After handling the N6, Z3 seems very tiny, like a child's toy....I still love using the Z3 but the bigger size of the N6 along with its snappiness, meaning fast, makes it hard for me to pick up the Z3. So I feel like a fool carrying two phones with one SIM card, with the card on the Z3. The only thing that's holding me back on putting the SIM card on the N6 is the battery life. The Z3 got some crazy long battery life. I worked 12 hours one time, started with the phone fully charged and on the phone constantly throughout the shift, came home that day with still 56% left on the battery. If I did the same with the N6, I'd be empty after maybe 6 hours.

Just don't wear tight jeans. Tying your shoes can have a bit discomfort! lol. Other than that Shorts, Dress-Pants, etc. And this is all from the front right pocket where i keep mine. Never in the rear.

[Q] Thinking of buying this phone.Need your opinions.

So, as the title says, I'm thinking of buying this phone. What's the pros and cons? Is the screen too big? Does it fit in your pocket? Is it practical?
Really need your opinions, Note owners!
Regards
Its been answered a million times but yeah when you first get it it will seem to big buts its not..
it fits perfect in all of my pants pockets with no issues..unless you wear skinny jeans or something i dont see why it wouldnt..
i mean you wont be doing things one handed like a smaller phone but this is the best phone i have ever owned.
Same here! This is by far the best phone i've owned and i have had iPhone 3gs, iPhone 4 and Lumia 800. It feels really big when you take it to your hand first time. But like said, it's still very portable and after a while you'll notice that: "damn, how small those 3,5" screens are". I can't imagine of using a phone with smaller screen than this anymore. I just don't want to. ha ha!
The screen is fantastic!! Reading, typing, watching videos, playing games...etc. is just wonderful. I'll say, go for it!

The screen is definitely awesome and you will not want to go back to anything smaller. I have had an iphone 3GS, Atrix, and Blackberry and the Note is definitely my favorite. It fits in my pockets as well. I typically keep it in my back pocket, but that's just me. Like MrDSL said, unless you have skinny jeans it should be fine. It is definitely practical in my opinion.
Warning:
You might get people asking you "Is that a phone or a tablet?" or other crazy questions. I just smile.
The phone is definitely big, but... the screen simply destroys any other phone. I bought the Note several monts after my ASUS Transformer and I can say if you have good eyesight it can easily replace a 10.1" tablet for web surfing and movies.
Another advantage is the size of the on-screen keyboard. In landscape mode is so big I found mor confortable to use Thumb Keyboard for a split one.
Is a great phone... a little big maybe but its thinness makes it very pocketable.
just do it
Don't even think about cons, there aren't any!
Buy it and you will change the way you see smartphones. I have it 6 months and even now i would choose it over HTC One X. The screen is beautiful, the s-pen is perfect and the power is limitless ;-)

too big for one hand use. too awesome for everything else.
Best battery backup too.
I've owned about 60 phones through the years including a couple of iPhones, and the Note is the most badass gadget i've ever owned. It's the device i dreamt about 10 years ago.
It may look too big at first, but after a day or two, not so. I'm never getting anything with a smaller screen after this.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Best phone I have ever owned. My last phone was the Desire HD and I actually don't notice the Note in my pockets as much as that phone. Its fast, light, great screen, good connection with 3g, wifi, bluetooth etc. Highly recommended.
Agree with all the comments cept I would add that it even fits in my skinny jeans pockets. Personally can't even imagine myself with an s3...

And why is that?
- It looks like something girls without tampons would use for a couple of days a month (pads)
- The specs doesn't impress me. I didn't expect much, but still.. Not worth it.

Would you guys carry your N7 using.....

I was wondering if someone made a carry case with a shoulder strap would you guys use it? I would and I'm looking for one but can't find anything that doesn't look like a girlie pocketbook.
As a man that is engaged to be married to the most amazing woman on earth, I already carry one. It has a strap, it's colorful and pretty and I hate it. But her purse works. I bought a cheap case for The Seven and she carries it when we are out and about. I am still fighting for a man cave...so good luck getting your own man bag
Disclosure: I want one too

I threw the #2 rod through the oil pan on my S10 earlier this summer. Really sucked and now i am without a car for a couple months since it is not worth fixing. I realized i had too much stuff to carry with me on a day to day basis so i decided to get some sort of bag. I went with the manliest style i could think of and now it carries everything i need.

Including all my electronics. Nexus 7, HTC Sensation plus two spare batteries, Ipod, 2 sets of headphones, E-Cig batteries and all the e-liquid for the e-cig. It has also taken the place of carrying a small diaper bag for my 2 year old. can fit his bottle, snacks, zip lock bag of wipes, two diapers and 3 hot wheels for him to play with. I also carry a mora 4" knife, gerber multi-tool, two 3" very sharp folding knives, window punch and two small bright flashlights. Three is two, two is one and one is none is pretty much my moto. My kid calls it "da-da purse". Its ok.

Thats would be ok. but i am not sure i would trust that with my stuff. I do like their classic messenger bag but i would really like to see more pics and maybe a hands on before trusting my stuff in a bag company that seems to be going for looks. the 5.11 and maxpedition bags are built like tanks. very strong material build.
The integrated bottle opener is a nice touch though.
I like the bags from Rickshaw. I just haven't been able to justify the cost yet. Would love to grab a Mini Commuter.

I actually picked up a small bag from the Bench Factory Outlet store near me, just the right size for the N7... and it looks cool cos it has Bench written on it
adamhlj: if you want to trust your stuff to a cheap bag like that then go ahead. thinking like that means you were ripped off by buying a nexus tablet as opposed to a emedia tablet. If you want to buy the kia of bags then go ahead. I'll stick with the lexus of bags and it will last longer.
besides I bought my bag on overstock sale for $50. I'd rather pay twice as much for something that will last longer then 3 months.

50 bux for a nice bag isn't bad. I have used Oakley sandbags in the past and was good, but I kinda like the 5.11 Pack you posted. I may get one of these. Thanks for the info
i started carrying a man purse (tumi t-tech) since i got my first ipad
the bag fits a 10 inch tablet or a 7 incher with some accessories
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...rh=n:1036592,k:shoulder+bag+tumi+t-tech&ajr=0
it looks something like this one, mine is 3-4 years old at least since i got it when ipad first came out
I got a murse (man purse) to carry my rooted Nook Color about 2 years ago. And it went with me everywhere until I got the N7.
It holds my N7, wallet, keys, phone, over the ear headphones, cleaning cloth, extra charger and cord, etc.
But, OTOH, I am old and get away with it!!!!:laugh:
Oh yeah,,,,made by Eagle Creek.

Whoa seriously there is nothing wrong with UTG (under the gun). They make a lot of crap and a lot of quality stuff at a decent price. they're made to contend with higher priced items and do this well. My job sells like 100+ UTG items. AND I happen to own a 2011 Kia Forte Koup. It is an amazing car! No really... go to Kia and test drive one. Or an Optima. They're amazing cars nowadays. And the money I saved by buying this car goes to things like my tablet and cheaper bags and anything else I want to splurge on.
He was just trying to offer his helpful opinion. With that attitude u might as well skip on android and go with an iPhone.

In this case, you do get what you pay for...
UTG -
Polyester
5.11 -

Saying somone was "ripped off" is not helpful...especially when they are mistaken.
Only thing that popped up in my mind.

I got with android because i am a fan of linux and open source. I also believe i should be able to do what i want with my mini computer. Android phones are not that much cheaper then iphones and no matter what anyone says iphones work really will with other apple products. And actually, i am considering the iphone 5 when it comes out. Since the trend of android is making high end devices huge. I want a high end phone with a 4" screen. I dont need to carry around 2 tablets. Thats nice that you have a kia. Will it be running strong in 10 years? We'll see. I see plenty of honda, toyota, lexus, chevy, fords, and dodges from 02 on the road. not too many Kias though. Sacrificing price for quality is not wise in my decision. And like beestee said there is a structural different between the bags. I also didn't have anymore attitude in what i said then the attitude that adam had when he said i got ripped off.
Now back on topic.

I like that sandbag. i'll have really give it a once over the next time i see one in the stores. I also have the bag listed below. I have seen it for about $75 but i paid $90 for it. That is what i use when the family goes to the zoo or disneyland. I have also used it for a 3 day camp/hike trip. Worked really well. If it was winter or any longer then i would have had to use a bigger bag. Day hikes just get the 5.11 PUSH. Take 5 min and watch the video on the MOAB 10. You'll see a lot of attention to the little details in the construction of this bag.

Checked out the MOAB, awesome awesome bag. I miss being in the USAF with stuff like this lol. Eh whatever...lol A glock in the compartment, nice...forget my tablet lol
I pulled the trigger and got a deal on the Max Jumbo KISS bag. I think it should suffice. I just dropped my N7 on the curb because my 4yr old kicked it off the seat while I was getting her out of the truck. This is what happens when your hands are full folks lol....
I'll post a review of that bag when I get it next week. :good:
I like the KISS. I looked into that because of the zipper pouch on the side. The push pak has two zipper pouches for water. I liked the idea of the full zipper but my hand didn't fit inside that pouch. Couldn't get headphones out of the bottom. But I still like that bag

Do not forget the having to change bags to match what your wearing. I bought the nexus 7 because i got tired of always having to be sure my bag or purse was big enough to fit my a500 in..I love the device but with its size i might as well pack my computer around.. My nexus will fit in even a larger clutch bag.And a smaller purse that works well with a tiny spring strappy or strapless Dress..
You have to look good no matter what....
guys can get away with nearly anything . Get you a pair of cargo shorts with those pockets that go 3/4 the way around the leg put a hard shell case that opens at the top and there ya go.. nice protection and easy to access... pssssss
with the above about the 4 inch phone i so agree .. the sweet spot on a phone size is 4 inches..Anything bigger is to much to hold in my hand . It must Make calls and Tether to my tablet.. What more do you need in a cell phone if you have a 7 inch tablet...
I personally would NOT use a i phone ... it may be very user friendly But we are all individual people..We deserve to have a device we can make our own.And not be locked into what the manufacturer say is BEST FOR US..
Ok all lets go shopping now...

Yep, I don't buy a purse if it can't fit a small notebook, or now, if it won't fit my N7 and a charger. And I change lanyards, purses, paracord accessory, ocassionally shoes, and hat for the day, sometimes during the day if I have to change for events.
And I have a captivate glide, which is about four inches, and a physical keyboard that makes me giddy (except when looking at cases).

Bag Suggestions For Nexus 7?

So I have a large backpack for carrying around my laptop + whatever else but when I'm going somewhere casual & I only really need my tablet it's a bit unnecessary! What do you guys (yeah, guys specifically, girls not such a problem with just a handbag) carry it around in when you really only have that, your wallet, phone, keys etc?
Thinking of a really small shoulder bag/satchel type deal but I'm not really sure.
I got a small shoulder bad from Amazon - search for Brown Canvas Small Travel Portfolio Shoulder Bag (I can't post the link yet)
It seems durable and well made, especially for the price (10 bucks w/shipping) Holds my Nexus 7 with case, phone, cables, cards, bluetooth headset and WiiDrive.
I'm very happy with it. The color is more UPS-like than in the picture.
I've only had my N7 since Friday and not really been out with it, but when I picked it up from my mums on Friday I had my Notebook with me so I put it in there. When around the house I just put it in my jogging bottoms pocket or carry it in my hand. Will have to buy something more safe to carry it in other than using a pocket in the long run though.

I have this bag, love it, but it is more... surplus-build than anything quality. I do love and use it though.

My all-time favorite bag in history, though, is my STM Scout tablet bag:
http://www.stmbags.com/catalog/ipad-bags/scout2-for-ipad-shoulder-bag/
This thing is FANTASTIC. Seriously, it is quality product. I get compliments on it all the time, the padding is incredible. The only issue I have with it is its made for a 10-incher, but honestly, I don't mind because it can fit pretty much any case you could possible have, and carry plenty of essentials for a day-trip. Cannot explain how much I like this bag. In fact, STM in general makes awesome stuff, and their support is top notch. I lost the key clip, and they sent me a new one free of charge.
I have a bag problem, it seems

Thoughts about Nexus 6 size

Hello guyz,
I'm thinking of purchasing Nexus 6 soon but the one thing that is bothering me is its size. I've never seen or tried Nexus 6 in real life. I saw various review videos about it by Android Authority and many more sites and it seemed like I can handle it. But I am very shocked after seeing a pic in which Nexus 6 is placed side by side with Nexus 5. It was very large :crying:
Actually the problem is that even Nexus 5 doesn't fits in my pocket properly as I'm very skinny so how will I manage Nexus 6
I badly wanna buy it What are your opinions?
I think it could be bigger but 5.96" is a large enough screen for now. I had a Note 3 then a G3 and now this (for large screen phones) and I think its easily manageable. You will get used to the size in a week or so and love it. It may look big, but once you have a big phone there's no going back. My G3 felt like a child's toy for a while and it did again when I got my Nexus. I usually carry my in my hand or cost pocket if it's cold enough. It fits in my jeans pocket but then again I don't wear skinny jeans and I'm 5'9" if that matters. I would give it s try (you usually get 2 weeks to return it) so the worst that can happen is you don't like the phone.
Once you get a phablet you'll never need a tablet

I'm thinking of purchasing Nexus 6 soon but the one thing that is bothering me is its size. I've never seen or tried Nexus 6 in real life. I saw various review videos about it by Android Authority and many more sites and it seemed like I can handle it. But I am very shocked after seeing a pic in which Nexus 6 is placed side by side with Nexus 5. It was very large :crying:
Actually the problem is that even Nexus 5 doesn't fits in my pocket properly as I'm very skinny so how will I manage Nexus 6
I badly wanna buy it What are your opinions?

Seemed big at first but now everything else seems way too small. Made me appreciate PIE, though. Thought it could render my Nexus 7 obsolete but it's not big enough for that.

Thanks @Pilz for sharing your experience. I really like the phone so much I swear. Even I can't stop dreaming about me holding Nexus 6 in right hand and all my friends behind me ready for a selfie lol
I would have brought it yet but just waiting for my payments.
Thanks again

Have you handled a Nexus 7? If so, here's a comparison that might make more sense for you.

In reality, yes it's big, but not unwieldy. My Nexus 7 always went with me in my pocket, so of course, I don't have a problem with toting around the N6.
If you're used to a Note or 1+1 then it's fine. Feels almost the same as a OPO in my hand and it's only a few mm wider kinds like the first Note.

Its quite easy to hold much like my old Nexus 7. I got rid of my Nexus 7 because I don't use it anyone and I didn't use my Nexus 9 as much either. I won a Nexus 9 but I'm still waiting for it to arrive and I may keep this one. What I'm getting it is the Nexus 6 is great and while it may not replace a tablet for everyone it made it easier for me to say good bye to my Nexus 7.
Here is a pic of the Nexus 6 next to my wife's Moto X 2014 (that was my first Nexus 6 with a matte black dbrand skin)
I love the size. Only time I don't like it is when it's in my front pocket and I am in a squat position, such as tying shoes. The phone feels constrained at that point. I could never go back to a smaller phone now.
I never felt that any of these phablets are too big to handle or to place in pockets. I used to carry my nexus7 with me all the time in my back pockets. I have medium-sized hands myself and yes I can't type without using both hands, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make to get a beautiful big screen like this one. I really wish it was bigger tbh, a 6.3-6.5inch display would've been ideal for me.
Feels smaller than what it is. You will love it the g3 was to small for me and the note 3 was boring to me and small . Finally found a phone that fits my hands. I can reach across the screen with my thumb with no problems
When I first saw the specs I thought, "wow, WAY to big to ever consider it." Then, I felt one in the store and thought, "man this thing is huge, but I kind of like it." Then, I bit the bullet and bought it. Within a week, I fell in love with it and think it's the perfect size. When I pickup smaller phones now they just seem way to tiny. I don't think I could go to a smaller phone after having this.
Better than A iPhone 6 Plus
Had the iPhone 6 Plus when it first came out and absolutely from a phone design standpoint love my Nexus 6 much better beside being Android of course. iPhone 6 and 6 Plus seemed off weighed to the top of the phone, plus of course there's the whole bendgate thing with the plus's.... the Nexus 6 even though it can bind up in say jeans front pockets, it is sturdy enough to not bend... it feels conformed to the hand better as well. To use comfortably though it is definitely a 2-handed phone... not saying you couldn't one hand it for simple stuff but definitely take 2 hands to get full functionality. As for as the screen size, it is killer... I have to use a iPhone 6 for work and its like looking at houses from an airplane compared to my Nexus... I say get it... try it, you don't like... you can easily still sell and recoup all your money back... :good:
Omg thanks!! :d

Thanks a lot @TheAmazingDave for posting this comparison image. Yep I handled Nexus 7 once and it was like I could handle it. I was not able to put it in my pocket though. Nexus 6 is really smaller than Nexus 7 then imma buy it asap yay!!!

Thanks @mahst68. Well my hands are of medium size so I think chatting with one hand under the table in the college while the teacher is giving lecture won't be possible with Nexus 6 XD . I was also wondering what if N6 gets bend if I put it in my front jeans pocket because I'm very skinny so as my jeans lol. My current device Xperia L also feels constraint that is very smaller in comparison to N6. But I'm glad after knowing that N6 is not that weak like Apple's so called beast lol. Thanks for sharing your thoughts
I've had my N6 since Dec 23, and to be honest, I'm still not used to the size. It is indeed large. Personally, something in between the N5 and N6 size-wise would be ideal for me, but oh well.
Because it's so large, they placed the power and volume buttons closer to the middle, so I find myself accidentally clicking them.
As well, because it's so large, it doesn't feel as balanced weight-wise as previous devices I've owned.

N5 was too big for me. N6 is way too big for me. I'm not going to let that stop me though
I came from the Mega 6.3, so the N6 is actually smaller!???

Nexus 6 is too small for my liking. 5.96" screen should be more like 6.5" screen.
You do get used to the size though I say this took me about 2 weeks, within these first few weeks I seriously did consider taking it back, now I really do like the size.
Contrary to what people say, I even said it in the first few weeks, you can totally use this phone one handed for 80% of things.

How's the Size

hello guys,
I am currently contemplating on whether or not to purchase the Nexus 6. I currently have a Nexus 4 now, had it ever since launch. With the recent price cut, I a tempted to try out the Nexus 6! The only thing holding me back is the size, I am a fairly slim guy and wear fitted pants (not super skinny, but slim). Would I have trouble carry this thing around? And do you think the phone is worth 499, or are there better options out there.
Thank you for the input
J.
The phone is a great size, fits in pants really well. I can fully hold the phone with 1 hand when checking notifications, but my thumb does not reach the notification bar easily, so I use Nova Launcher swipe down gesture for easier access (I don't even realize it now. It was never a big issue for me in the first place).
If your pants are on the slim side, I would not recommend the Nexus, especially if you carry your wallet in your front (opposite) pocket like me.I workout and have bigger than normal thighs, and carrying my phone and wallet in front pockets (in my relaxed fit pants) and my pants stretch out, sometimes they feel uncomfortable (too tight).
But never have I thought about giving up this phone, it's just go amazing.
The deciding factor, since you said you are skinny, is if you can easily fit your hand in your pants pocket. If you can, get the phone. If your hand is tight in your pocket, where you have to kind of force your hand in, then get a smaller phone, that will be easier to take in/out of your pocket(s).
Phone always in my back pocket. I even sat on it so many times and this phone is solid like a rock. 2 words. GET IT.
At first it will seem big. After a few days you will have no issues except the size of your pockets!
All the basic functions can be used with one hand.
It is a great smartphone (allthough i wish it had more phablet apps/usage like note series)
Get the phone and then go get bigger pockets lol. It's worth it.
At first I was skeptical but then I bit the bullet and ordered one for my Project Fi tryout. I love this mammoth of phone and the 6" screen stands out when you view pictures, don't know why but it just appear to be very immersive.
Went from the Nexus 4 to the Big 6! Yeah, for the first day it feels large. But you quickly get used to it. There's so much made of its size. But compared to my wife's HTC M8. There's not really that much difference. The only down side I feel is the forced encryption nexus 6 for us who no longer feel the need to root or flash from stock. Should have been optional.
Besides that, the extra screen size is a great edition as I now no longer feel I need to replace my aging GTab2. That takes car of my ebooks and car sat nav. The Nexus 6 is everything else.
