Well now that I've got a six inch screen to browse on, I'd like to take advantage of it and disable mobile site views/force desktop view on all sites when using Chrome. Anyone know of any particular method for accomplishing that? The "Request Desktop" checkbox in Chrome itself is unreliable so I was hoping for a root alternative if necessary. Tried this method but it's terribly outdated so I wasn't very surprised when it didn't work.
I haven't tried this yet, but this app looks like it might be worth trying - "Chrome User Agent Switcher". At least the description sounds like it's what you need, plus it looks like it survives reboots in the same UA mode.

Tried it but it didn't work. :/

Boo. I'm going to pick mine up in a couple of hours (if they actually have one in stock like they say they do). I'll do some testing and let you know if I find something that works.
Chrome User Agent works great. I've been using it for a while. But you do need root.
EDIT: Hmmmm. I see that you are rooted. I haven't tried it on the N6 yet, but perhaps you need Busybox installed for the app to run properly?
Just installed BusyBox and still no change. Do I need to do anything in particular with BusyBox?

I don't believe so. I also can't get it to work. I'm pretty sure it was working in lollipop on my N5 though, so I'm not sure that the problem is necessarily lollipop related. Perhaps it's related to a recent chrome update...I'm not sure.
That apps with for me, stock rooted n6.sweet!
Hmm. After not working at first, this is now working for me. Not sure why. Try it again and make sure you force close chrome after applying the user agent settings switch (and make sure you actually apply the settings switch by hitting the arrow in the top right of the app).

Probably stores information somewhere else on the phone than normal. adb shell your phone and look for it manually

Hmm odd.. I wrote that app and I made an activity that starts on startup the normal way... not sure why it would still be there after a wipe... *shrug*
I had a similar issue with another app. No matter how many times I wiped, there it was. I think the Market got "wonky" and was downloading it each time I started up for the first time after a wipe. Almost seemed the market website didn't get notified of the successful download/install and was trying to "finish" the download upon signing back on.
whats the problem? uninstall it if you don't like it. personally, I think its a great application and I use it daily.
What should you keep your settings on with this app, both high and low. Also after applying the numbers do you need to reboot?

Seems like a silly question, but do you use apps on SD card.
One of my favorite features of doing that is that I dont actually have to reinstall after wiping, just redo the simlink
Argh! Stupid browser double posting

That depends on personal preference. I keep mine at 528/528 'cause I like me some speed
EDIT: forgot the second half of your post, you don't need to reboot after applying.
ive never been able to get open over clocker to do ANYTHING, i put values in the box hit apply and nothing happens... reboot... cpu at same speed.... its like the button just does nothing, tried the standalone app and dudecake.9 with it integrated. it hasnt ever caused me any problems and removing it worked fine for me, it just never did much of anything at all for me
are you using the dude's build? he included the app in his builds until this last build

Is there any way to refresh the market place application list without having to reinstall the application?
Basically this is my situation. I wiped my phone, and backuped all my apps. I threw the apps back into the ext part of my phone, but when I head back to the Market it says none of my apps are installed. Only way to make them reappear in market is by reinstalling. Anyway around this?
Close please, sorry nm found out how.

Yes, this would be good information for others to have too.
RA-Dream Recovery Boot > Others > fix mismatched uid > reboot
All fixed. Matches any apps you have with what's on the market. I didn't try this before because I was scared and didn't know what it'd do lol
Very strange, as fix UID just runs a fix_permissions...not sure why this would make your Market now see the apps?
Why not just use aTrackDog.....the market only checks for updates at specific intervals, and you also wont have to worry about fixing apk uid mismatches, and so on. Just a thought.

Are you sure that's what it does? Otherwise fix_permissions would've worked. I know fix_permissions fixes CHMOD permissions, I don't think it actually checks to make sure it's logged in the packages.xml.

I tried aTrackDog, but it told me a lot of my apps needed updates. Half the things it told me to update weren't even in the market, so I gave up on it. It also said to check the developer's page, but sometimes that wouldn't work either. And to add to that, I find the Market is a lot more cleaner and easier to use then aTrack. Too many useless options in my opinion in aTrackDog.
aTrackDog doesn't have any options really....and the way it works is if anyone runs aTrackDog on their phone, it scans the version of said app, and updates it on aTrackDog's server. So if the developer of an application uses atrackdog, and runs it while working on a new version of their app that hasn't been released yet, it will say so. And the ones it monitors that aren't on the market, it's there for that. You're obviously using apps that arent on the market, so aTrackDog tells you when they're updated, since you can't do it through the market.
To each is own I guess, but I'm guessing you don't just understand atrackdog enough.

I just don't like warnings when nothing is really wrong. It's not nice to tease me about newer version that I can't even download I don't use too many apps that aren't off the market anyway. And since Market is on the phone by default, might as well have it working properly right?

But instead of telling you when updates are out, that aren't, it doesn't tell you when there are updates. The market works much better when you're not rooted, and don't have A2SD. For most of us that are rooted and have A2SD mod, we use aTrackDog Plus it only alerts you once that there's an update, untill there is another.

I totally agree it's a great app, and does what it supposed to do. I'll try using it more over the week but this is going off topic now lol
Anyway to fix the market app list I used fix mismatched uid in recovery.
Does anyone know anything about market enabler? From what I understand we may be able to use it to see/download market apps that we can't see with 2.1. I am not sure if it works. I installed it but I really don't know what settings to use or whatever. If anyone wants to test it out and see if it makes a difference, download attached.

Where did you get this file from?
I briefly read about market enabler on a hero thread somewhere. It sounds like people use this for better market access with cooked ROMS.
I got the actual .apk from here: http://code.google.com/p/market-enabler/downloads/detail?name=MarketEnabler_3.0_beta.apk&can=2&q=
I did very little testing as I am not missing any apps specifically.
Seems like you may need root to use this one :\
It keeps saying "We Got a Problem Houston " every time I try something.

Cool.. Just loaded it on vegan beta 5.1. Seems to work just fine. Don't know if I see any more stuff, but never really had a problem finding things with the other ones.
I do notice that the appearance seems crisper. Like maybe they are using a higher quality. Or, maybe not.
Still the same for me. Stars still truncated. Missing apps still missing.
The new apk is about 600 MBA larger than earlier one.
Jim
Just for fun I went ahead and did the market fix again. Didn't need to but I saw the earlier post and was curious. I never could get it to open after the first reboot. Had to reboot again. Then once it started working I have noticed more of the "android.process.acore" errors, and server errors then with the older one. I will be rolling back to a previous version myself since this doesn't seem to really make anything better.
I wonder if there should be an updated GoogleServicesFramework with this?

Works for me
I'm running vegan 5.1 with pershoots latest kernel and here are my findings thus far. I backed up market with titanium and installed the update, immediately opened market. Everything looks to be there, I searched for a few things and installed one or two. I looked for adw and couldn't find it, I did see its themes but not the app. Rebooted, loaded up market no fc's, until I tried to roll back to previous version to look for adw because I am almost certain it was there before. Interestingly I did see appbrain which I've never been able to get before. Never tried market fix, and did not notice any image improvement. Anyone know for certain what to look for to see if it actually improves previous market? I'm going to try and fix my market now and will report back if anyone's interested.
I installed via the apk (there is also an update.zip available) and all working well. No reboot or clearing Google Services Framework required.
I had previously preformed the well documented market fixes but could never quite get the entire market. Everything appears to show up now.
I'm not sure it is complete I can't find a few things. But then again I found a bunch of things I couldn't find before either. Catch 22 yet again.
anyone else having a problem with 'Media Volume' not working after this update? The rocker doesn't work, I tried to go in the settings (I had to unmute and turn the system sound back up - no dice), I even tried to play a video and turn up the sound using the software controls within that program....nothing works.
How do I revert back? Where is the old .apk located?
....also had to turn my wi-fi on with each reboot, which is new.
Running Vegan5.1
I think it would be most helpful if you guys actually listed the names of the titles of the apps that you either DO or DO NOT see once you have tried this. Just might help in the troubleshooting aspect. For what its worth.
ckelly,
search xda for market or vending.apk and you will find many versions to play with
Volume corrected on reboot #2.
Wi-Fi still needs to be manually connected..
@sixvolt
Since this appears to not improve things, you must have had even less apps show up than we did and this update brought you to par with the rest of us. Everything is relative
There are several posts here for fixes to get the full Market and I'm one of the unfortunate that none of these fixes work for me. Different roms, countless restarts and FC never worked. I was talking to a friend and he told me to download market enabler. Further digging pointed to me MarketAccess - an updated version without the ads. From what I've heard, Android Market will limit what you can 'see' depending on the service/carrier you have with your cell phone. And since we're on a tablet, that may be why some of us are SOL.
Market Access will trick Android Market into thinking you have a cell phone carrier with your tablet. For example, I chose T-mobile for the U.S. and I now have Kindle and Nook; two apps I couldn't download before.
I'm going to continue testing this and see what else I can get. For now, those were the two I couldn't see and I now have them installed through the Market.
You can find MarketAccess be googling... yes, Market Access. The site should be amip.tools (can't post links yet)
Is this what your talking about?
http://amip.tools-for.net/wiki/android/marketaccess
Are you sure this is safe and legal?
That's it. I didn't see anything that would make this illegal. Do you?

I would love to be able to access the full Market too but I am, like you, one whose attempts to fix Market did not work. However, unlike you, even with the fix you led me to, my gtab continues to not be able to see the full Market apps. Bummer. But thanks anyway.

Reggie, Did you try different carriers when running the app? Some apps may be specific to the cell phone service.
Which apps are you looking for anyway?
Yeah this fix didn't really work for me either. Honestly if I need an app badly enough and its not showing I just download to my phone back it up to my dropbox app folder and sideload it right from dropbox on mt g-tab. Works great for me and I have a backup or the app also.
I'm giving it a try and see what it does.

Hi,
The webpage says:
"MarketAccess, as well as MarketEnabler requires root available on the device. It means than you need to unlock your phone and install the su application which will manage permissions for other apps that want to get root on the device. Google for details."
Jim
I tried this to look for a specific app. Upon further inspection I don't see anything in there using this that wasn't in there using the Market Fix. Am I missing something? For what its worth, I'm looking for Colorize Widgets.
Thanks for your reply Jim. I must have misunderstood. I thought ecatapano's fix avoided using MarketAccess and MarketEnabler by accessing and "drop boxing" apks from an Android phone then sideloading them to the g-tab through drop box. I just don't know how to get the apks from the Droid to the drop box.

I've seen mention of using Astro file manager to backup, which I guess puts the APK on sdcard, then you have to have dropbox installed on your Droid, and you can then send the APK to dropbox.

I installed the market enabler,or whatever its called. I defaulted to t mobile as my carrier. I'm not certain what you are supposed to do for setup after that. So I went back into Market and found Colorize Widgets. I'm not convinced market enabler had any influence though. Any feedback on using market enabler is appreciated.
