Hello...
Since there isn't a P990H specific forum or ROMs available, I thought I would my questions here:
1. Besides the baseband (i.e. RF) side, are the P990 and the P990H same? How about P999?
2. If #1 is true, I assume I can use the custom ROMs for either P990 or P999 for P990H. I looked the CM zip files, and there isn't a baseband update included, so I am inclined to think I am right. Does anyone know for sure?
3. What would you consider the most stable custom ROM at the moment? Modaco FR19, or CM7? I am after the ASOP experience as much as possible.
I just bought a P990H (to be used with AT&T SIM), when it arrives, I'll be diving into getting a custom ROM installed and wanted to make sure I don't end up with an expensive brick.
Your help is much appreciated.
As far as I know, most of the p990 Roms and kernels are not compatible with the P999. You should see the pages of the roms you would like and ask their coders. if they are compatible.
OK... so, if the P990 ROMs aren't compatible with the P999 ROMs, how about the P990H? I've seen people with P990H who flashed P990 ROMs, but I am not sure if these are limited to a specific set of ROMs or all.

Thanks for the confirmation! Did you just follow the same instructions as the P990H for loading custom ROMs?
I would love to hear your assessment of the Gr2. Is there any glaring thing that doesn't work?
By the way, are you using the stock baseband, or did you update it? If you updated, which one would you recommend?

Everything is the same! No special instructions to follow
And everything is working on this rom and it's been pretty stable for an alpha the only issue i had it was because i didn't wipe before and after the rom installation.
There is also a Gr3 comming at the end of the month so it's only getting better

No change on the baseband, i use the stock one
From the research i made it look like the only difference between these phones are the frequency they can work on (yours is on 850/1900 i think) other than that i don't think the modem on those phones are different.
i was looking for some info as well. does flashing a custom rom change the baseband or 3G bands of the p990h?

No, if you dont update the baseband (and you shouldn't) then you'll be okay.. You should probably also save the RIL from original ROM (and put back to the new one) so that everything is working as it should. the RIL is located in /system/lib/lge-ril.so
Thanks For the info guys
I am new to android hacking. I am using CM7 on O2X as of now.
I have few queries if you could answer, I know they may be very modest, but still they are unclear to me if you could help
What is the difference between ROM/ Kernel/ Baseband?
If I apply a custom ROM will it change Kernel and Baseband too?
I did a nandroid backup before installing a custom ROM, but when I restore it, it doesn’t work the screen keep on flashing and nothing happens. Can you suggest something here?
Rom is like the OS, like froyo, gingerbread, cyanogenmod.
Kernel is like a bunch of drivers and sets of ways to execute those stuff by the OS.
I forgot about basebands and RILs.
Changing rom means changing everything but baseband & ril. The exeption would be temasek's cm7 kangs. He include 218 ril with his kangs. Kang is when you compile cm roms yourself and you can share it freely to people.
If restoring a nandroid backup didnt work, you probably restored it from a different version of cwm recovery. Maybe, you made the backup from version 4xxx and restored it over version 5xxx, vice versa.

For a great guide on baseband and RIL, check out this thread :

Roms are the os, kernels are the middle interface that manage translate the user actions into hardward commands and admistrates and handle hardware resources.. And basebands are just the radios gsm/cdma

There is no reason to change your baseband. Simply flash the rom you want, flash the kernel you want (if not included in the rom), download 'getril' from the market, use it to match baseband and ril... that's it.

but i still confuse. I was 100% sure changing rom was going to change baseband, kernel, etc.
Even after this post above i still confuse.
It is aways the same:
First root, then
1 baseband
2 rom
3 matching ril
4 change kernel
?
in my case the problema is the signal. I lost signal with frequency. Should a try only Baseband and then mathing ril?

When you flash a ROM everything is changed except for the baseband. The baseband sticks to your device no matter what ROM you're using. The only way to change it is using either Smartflash or nvflash.
What is the best Baseband / RIL combination? No one can answer that as each one of us is on a different mobile network with different settings and on different countries, so it's up to you to try and find out which is the best baseband / RIL for you.
By the way, flashing a new baseband will wipe out everything. Make sure you create a backup first.
Hope this clears things a bit for you now

Which baseband is the best?
The classic question. Unfortunately there is no good answer as this depends on your phones specific hardware, your carrier, your reception, your network, the universe and so on.
People with phones "Made in Korea" (you can see that on a sticker under your battery) usually have a better experience with SU660 Basebands. Apperantly the phones have some SU660 hardware parts inside.
Some people won't even get a connection with a specific baseband while others consider it the best.
You have to try for yourself!

my reception is horrible, that is the reason i am trying to change rom, bb, etc.
that is not the first time i read totally divergent information, so i am asking before brick my smarthphone.
the jargon used to change rom, bb in Android is totally new for me. I am reading the foruns i see people with exactly the same problem i have. But i see that aftfer ask 1, 2 times the person give up.
Was a total surprise for me that chaging the BB could wipe system data.
Looks like when i post in a dedicated thread people send me to the general Q&A, but when i ask questions in the Q&A, people send me to the dedicated threads even if i don't know wich are the steps and wich tools i should use to achieve what i want:
safely try the faster rom and solve the reception/signal problem.
Your reception problems may not have anything to do with your bb/ril. It could be that you simply have bad reception due to your location, carrier, etc. If you had bad reception with the stock rom, changing to a custom rom is probably not going to fix it.
If you just want a faster rom, then I think you should install the latest Nova HD v. 1.0.1.(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508492). Then use the custom installation option to experiment with different rils, different kernels etc. to find the best combination for you overall - and you don't have to do a full wipe every time once you are on an ICS ROM. Taking a backup of your rom with CWM is always a good idea though, just in case. You will not brick your phone as long as you follow the instructions given. It is actually pretty hard to brick your phone!
I use too Nova HD ir very smooth And a lot battery life.

Simply try different BB / RILs combinations (eg. BB420 and 420 RIL). You don't really need to use a matching RIL with your BB, but it is recommended. If you find a BB/RIL combination that gives you stable signal and data, then stick to it. That's how we do it.

Your data partition will be wiped out while flashing a new baseband. That is why you should get a backup first so you can get everything back later.

Losing baseband
Hi guys, I'm new here. So I flashed my Nova HD Rebuild v1.0.3 recently. Then I flashed the kernel to Spica's hp kernel. ''[SuperSonic]*[April-05]*[CM9-ICS KERNEL][RC1-R] Horse Power 2x ICS RC1-R [OTF'' This one. After that, my baseband became unknown. I restored a cwm backup and the kernel changed back to the stock nova kernal. But my baseband remained unknown.. I've searched a lot on the forum and really couldn't find anything similar to my situation.. Any help guys?

Hi Arthur, take a look here. You'll find there how to fix that
Screwed my phone up. Took me 16 hours to finally figure out how to get it back.
Unbricked backed to stock and then rooted.
So right now I sit at
4.22
VS98010B
ROOTED
I tried Beanstalk 4.4. It messed my phone up to the point it was unworkable.
Then I tried a debloated 24a stock rom.. and couldn't get it to load.
So.. I am looking for a simple ROM.
Or maybe I can just stay where I am?
Suggestions?
Is not the roms, it's you. Is follow the instructions in the thread cm11 based on 24A thread. Then feel free to flash any rom you want
Sent from my LG-VS980 using Tapatalk
Or follow xdabbeb's instructions, which imo is much simpler
Bottom line is you need to have the same version bootstack on your phone as the rom you're flashing. Any stock KitKat or variant needs the 24A bootstack, Beanstalk needs 24A also. The other AOSP's vary, read the OP's on them thoroughly.
That's why I said
KEEP IT SIMPLE
Thanks guys...
Man..The LGG2 is much more complicated than my old Sprint Evo LTE.
I started reading into some of the roms and was saying HUH?
Will be looking more into the guides.
Thanks again!
I'm not new to rooting and flashing, except with the G2, VS980. That said, I rooted using an app called "AutoRec" from the Play Store. I then flashed TWRP 2.7. However, when attempting to flash the stable version of Cyanogenmod (10.2), I run into an "LG Security Error" and the phone won't boot past the LG boot screen.
Do I need to revert back to an older firmware to flash ROM's? Is there an LG VS980 flashing tutorial anywhere? I used the TOT method to get the G2 back to stock, and I'm currently back on 24A, but reverting won't be a problem as the stock firmware is garbage.
I know, this is a lot for one post, but I need the information. There are plenty of ROM's to choose from, but I don't even know where to start. I know it's difficult picking one, so which one are you using now and would you recommend it?

CM 10/11 nightlies are based on JB or 12B baseband while your phone has 24A or KK. You need to flash JackpotClavin CM11 5/21/14 release
And also, just for future reference (no disrespect), this belongs in Q&A, not development. Hope you get it figured out!

It's not a problem. I've been a member here for awhile, but never really post. I still should've known better.
That said, does anyone have any other suggestions for Google source-based ROM's?
I've recently gone with C-Rom. I noticed the size was quite small, and once it booted, I couldn't be happier. It's plain-Jane Android, and I love it!

Carbon is quite nice too, bigshotrob22 has been posting betas based on 24A to the thread, the last one is in my signature. Don't use the nightlies linked in the original post.
I am noticing issues with wifi calling and was wondering what kernel everyone has been successful with when it comes to this i am using the TMO AEL i keep getting no mobile network available, I never use to get that i am running Hyperrom as well v3?
Please excuse my ignorance i'm trying to learn.
I know i few people had issues with it. Stock works great
So is there a way to revert back to the stock kernel? Or is there a better explanation why this keneral is acting up?

Yes flash a stock kernel most devs have it in the op in the thread. If the kernel is not built from the tmobile version it will not work. Or if the rom is from another source then it wont work. You would have to read up on all the differences that roms and kernels have.
