Hello xda
So here's the idea; I got my home theater which has 5.1 and i would love to listen to music from all 6 speakers instead of just the 2
So I was wondering if there's an app or something I can do so that the Chromecast receives the music in an upmixed version? Right now I have the Chromecast connected directly to my receiver alas I only get 2.0 (cause that's what the song is of course)..
Thanks
-Hapse
I think stereo is all the CC can do.

I'm looking into car stereos, and is there a way to get one with a usb port that I could do audio out of the phone through it?
Right now I have to cables needed for my phone in the car, power cable and headphones. I'm trying to see how I can eliminate the headphones, but still keep the ability to use my phone for music (while its charging). I keep my music on the internal storage (not SD), but also use Pandora or Audiogalaxy.
Also if there are any stereo units that can do this and have support for ipod of usb that would be great too.
almost every car stereo brand has one with usb ports but unfortunately I think you need one with an auxiliary out that will connect thru 3.5 mm headphone jack
edit: I think there might be some out there that have bluetooth for playing music actually

Check CrutchField.com and it should work just like you want. Go to best buy with your cable and plug into one of the HU's there and try it. Your music would need to be on the SD card and disk drive setup from the phone end I think

This means your phone will act as an USB thumb drive.. It may not be the same effect you want, but is a pretty good solution.
I use a nice sony head to stream the media audio to in my truck, often 8 or 10 hours a day, love it. A few head units will allow phone and audio seperately. The ability to connect bt headset and head unit to the phone is well worth the money if you spend much time driving
Pioneer offers many units that have the bluetooth built in that allow audio streaming and call interuption etc
I know in my 2011 Camaro i can do call audio and any audio on my Incredible (ie: music, sounds, games, videos all output audio via bluetooth since the radio acts as headphones) but of course were also talking about a stereo that has rare support for the Zune integrated right into the USB.
The sony in my 2011 freightliner does the media and phone seperately, phone can be connected to stereo and headset at the same time, mp3 thru the stereo and calls thru the headset. Even with the external mic for the stereo people got too much background noise. Car might be a little quieter inside tho

I recently went with an HTC One and while I'm loving the device I've gotten quite spoiled with the car integration of the iphone. My phone is connected via bluetooth to my car audio system. Makes and receives calls fine. Plays out of the "Music" app fine.
But getting beyond that is incredibly annoying. The Music app just wants to play whenever i go to the bluetooth input and getting it to play something else is sometimes impossible. Starting spotify sometimes gets me spotify audio, and sometimes I get stuck in a loop where my car's audio is "paused" and spotify is playing on my phone. I tried to use my phone to stream slingbox audio over bluetooth today and simply couldn't accomplish this, every time i went to bluetooth the music app would start and the slingbox feed would get disconnected. Same behavior with WatchESPN.
On an iphone, the audio is all piped through the same thing and multiple audio feeds can't play, so this would be as simple to fix as double tapping the home screen and going to the airplay like icon and selecting the right output if for some reason it wasn't playing a particular app's audio over bluetooth.
Is there an app or any change I can make that will allow me to control which application is sending the audio over bluetooth? Can I disable the music app just taking over whenever I connect my car? Any other ideas I haven't thought of?
Are you using the car mode system? Go into the car app, go to settings (tap on the bottom middle), and make sure to turn off all the auto-music and such.
No, would I be able to control sling player in that mode?
Similar Issue! Bluetooth works only with Google Music App
I have a similar issue. Bluetooth pairs well with my stereo, and if I use the Google Music App all is great. I get great sound and track information. On all other apps (pandora, spotify, tunein Radio) the app shows that my music is playing but there is no sound coming from the car audio. The strange part is...when I play on Google music, then hit play on Spotify, spotify will play my track for a few seconds before the sound goes away. The track is still playing in the app though. Has anyone else encountered this?

Has definitely happened to me on more than one occasion. I've really only "fixed" it by restarting phone and car and hoping for the best.
iPhone market penetration and awareness has driven ICE integration to the exclusion of other brands.
Lack of similar joined up Android integration is the only thing stopping me going mechless in the car.
Until then, CD.

Yes I've encountered this in my 2011 Sienna. Yep I'm one of those spoiled by how well iOS handled audio through Bluetooth. I haven't tried Spotify, but I did try pandor and tunein and got the exact same results as you, with Google Music being the only player that works. I just transferred some music from my iTunes library and will try playing music through the native music app.
This won't be a dealbreaker for me but man do I miss how seamlessley iOS handled this. At least the steering wheel controls seem to work with Google Music, allowing me to jump to the next track.

So bluetooth streaming works fine for the native music player and I can go back and forth between Google Music and the native player and it streams fine via bluetooth. Still doesn't work with Pandora.

I am experiencing the same. Google music and google play stream perfectly. Maps(Navigation), Spotify, TED, Youtube have no speaker output, car speakers or otherwise.
In the same car I've previously been using a Galaxy S2 with all the above apps streaming via bluetooth just fine.
Anyone any ideas...?
Edit. I've tried everything but looks like this is a known issue with 4.1.2 jellybean. 4.2 update on its way within a month I hear.
Here's the workaround that I discovered in androidforums. I can confirm that it works with my AT&T HTC One and 2011 Sienna:
Launch pandora
Launch Google Play Music
Under Manage apps, select Google Play Music and stop it.
Sometimes Pandora starts streaming at this point.
If not, select Pandora from Running and stop everything under it.
Restart Pandora and it should stream now.
Just got an OTA update but no 4.2 yet. Bluetooth is still broken (unless you use Google music)

I have a 2013 Honda Pilot and whenever I stream music from my HTC One via Bluetooth, it will "pause" the music player. This happens all the time. It might go a few songs before it happens or will pause multiple times during a song.
Still waiting on my Google play order, what models work? Do any avr not work? Is the auto switching working?
Please t report your success or failure with a receiver/ home audio setup...

Used with a denon 2112cl .... Works perfectly fine for me.

Works great with my Denon 1613, switches input as soon as casting begins.
I use it with my Onkyo receiver. It has an HDMI input in the front of the receiver. It also happens to have a USB port that I use to power the Chromecast. I didn't have to go to the back of the unit at all.
Good news is that I get Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound with both Netflix and YouTube. When I do Chrome browser in my laptop the sound switches to "all channel stereo".

Same here, front HDMI & USB FTW! Gotta take advantage of the 5.1 surround... when do you get 5.1 from Youtube!?
It took some settings tweaking ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2380190 ) but I finally got chrome cast to work the way I wanted through my receiver. It's a Sony d520.

I don't know if you guys just prefer plugging into your receivers but if you have a TV with HDMI 1.4 you can plug the chromecast directly into your TV and audio will travel to your receiver via the "audio return channel" spec of HDMI 1.4.

Its not limited to 1.4, BUT it is limited to stereo
This is the reason why some of us want it plugged into the receiver. Plus, it also means that the receiver does all the switching instead of your ps3, cbox, BD player, roku etc all going through the receiver and them the chromecast on input 2 on the tv Those are my reasons anyway..even though I only have a ps3....

I couldn't tell you exactly what Youtube video got 5.1, but it was probably an HD video on Vevo.
My pioneer vsx9040txh works with it, and it seems it sounds better than using a Bluetooth adapter for audio.

Hi guys.
I am having trouble figuring out this issue. I have a Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR2 with Pioneer VSX-523-K Receiver. Now my girlfriend likes to sing karoke and she want to use her ipad mini to chromecast onto tv and she can use a mic to sing along sort of deal. I brought a mixer for the microphone also. Now my current situation is that I can't get chromecast plays her mic and music at the same time. could someone could be of help on this matter?
Thanks in advance.

Make sure Chromecast is plugged into your Receiver, not the TV, then it's up the to the receiver to mix the HDMI audio from Chromecast with its microphone input. She's not using a microphone on the iPad, right?
I believe people use VR along with a Headphone/earphone, as well as they experience the VR through their 5.1 / 7.1 Surround speaker setups, atleast thats what i saw on youtube where people mentioned they get an immersive experience of the VR when you have the music coming from all the directions on their external speakers/soundbars.
So whats required for this. Currently am hooked up on a 7.1 channel home theater setup, Denon 4311CI AVR, HTPC (Home theater Personal computer) Chromecast, appleTV.. is this possible? Whats required?
Never mind i was able to figure this out.
Here is how its done..

You can also use bluetooth. My 5.1 theater system is kinda old with no bluetooth but I have a Bluetooth stereo adapter that works great plugged into my front external audio input jack.
Chromecast
if you turn on screen casting with chrome cast before plugging in your phone to the headset it will send audio to the tv. Its not perfect by any means and the video freezes right away but its a simple way to have more immersive sound.
