Anyone here compared imilkas ics to the native ics of the galaxy nexus?
Besides the couples bugs mentioned does it seem as smooth as the gnexus?
Better?
Worse?
Would love to hear. Thanks

I suppose but I really like the debloated ics. As in galaxy nexus ics. I am assuming that the note ics aosp is still with touchwiz but everything touchwiz related wiped out but I still would like to know performance wise I'd its as snappy as galaxy nexus if not more snappy?
I love my nexus but I feel if I had what I have on my nexus on a note I'd be happier.
Also I don't need the greatest and latest from a nexus but I need this style ics which Imilkas from provides.
Hope you guys understand what I'm trying to get at here and foolish as some of you may believe it is.

Someone said that imilka should provide Samsung with a download link, so they could distribute it instead of the official ICS.
Bugger me if he wasn't right.

I'll likely stay on stock with a custom kernel if battery doesn't end up panning out during my normal work days. One of the reasons I always used ROMs like CM10 was to get my Samsung phones to be more like stock, so now I'm satisfied as it is.
Hope your ROM is available soon!
MIUI FTW!!!

Going to stay stock pretty much. Will probably try a few kernels out once they get settled and mature. Ran PA for the longest time on my Galaxy Nexus and found myself always just using stock settings for everything.

How's it running? I'm planning to flash AOKP and use it for now, maybe even stick to it cause PA (in the past, especially with my old S3) has has a lot of issues, like random rebooting (oh boy!).

I might just stay stock and add a different kernel later on. If I do choose a rom, it'll be cm 10.1 but I don't really see the need for it right now.

With the announcement of the T-Mobile and AT&T variants getting their first nightley of CM10.1 as early as this evening, I have to ask which are you going to run and why? (Obviously pending that we get CM on our device.)

I would assume that for such a high end device, we'll see official support for many AOSP roms including :

Slim Rom
Etc...

I'd really like to discuss some of the pro/cons/usefulness of certain tw features. I'll break down my opinion on a few and maybe some one can point out any better way to use these features or things I didn't consider
Air view-mostly useless Imo. Any info air view gives is faster to obtain by simply clicking.
Smart scroll- awful . Buggy as hell the only way I've gotten it to half way work is by setting it up to go by phone tilt and even then it randomly scrolls at times. Also you have to use the Internet app instead of Chrome and really who wants to do that?
Smart stay-pretty good feature imo. Only thing bad about it is it doesn't work great in low light.
Multi Window-one of the best features on phone only downside is the limited number of apps it supports.
Air gesture- hit and miss here some features are innovative and very useful some is pointless and stupid.
I have found quick glance and air jump very useful (air jump is a way better way of scrolling then smart scroll) the other features are easier to do by touching the screen so seem pretty pointless.

Did not know that! I am rooted will Definitely check that out. Going to be hard to choose asop vs tw when I flash a custom rom. Most tw features are pointless marketing crap but it will be hard to live with out the innovative useful tw features. Wish there was a way to get cm so I can easily theme and customize everything but keep some tw stuff.
Had same issue when I had HTC inspire. Went asop then (as opposed to Sense Rom)

^this.
I have been an AOSP guy for 3+ years. I have to say this newest version of TW is quite impressive compared to previous releases. Considering I have been using AOSP on a Nexus I just dont think I will be happy with it on this phone. AOSP was a just an overall let down on my wife's E4GT, it would have to be a vast improvement on that for me to even consider it.

Pretty much this right here with me as well right now. The problem is I would love a Stock TW rom that's been slimmed down quite a bit but still has things like AirView and Multi-Window in it. I will however give it some time to see how good the AOSP roms work for the S4 the E4GT roms were nice we has awesome devs but I have to admit some were just lacking very badly in terms of things not working right at times.

ForceROM has most of the bloat removed, but you can still utilize all of the Samsung wizardry like airview, multi window, etc...
IMO, the most polished AOSP/CM ROMs on E4GT wouldn't have even qualified for Alpha status on a Nexus device. That is not meant to be an insult to the devs at all. It is just hard to make AOSP play well on Galaxy devices.

You may not have to settle for one or the other...
Lead CyanogenMod developer and creator Steve Kondik has made an important announcement that will make Galaxy S4 owners leap with joy.
The custom ROM project is currently available in an experimental, nightly build for the T-Mobile version of the Samsung flagship smartphone. Moreover, the custom ROM is going to support Android’s hover events meaning that they’ll be open to developers to think of cool new software features in the line of Samsung’s Air View. Steve Kondik notes that there are “a few rough edges”, but as they get ironed out “in short order”, CyanogenMod 10.1 for the Galaxy S4 will be more than good enough for a daily driver.
Honestly for me personally, the stock MDL ROM with some tweaks/KT-SGS4 Kernel/mods is freakn smooooothh as heck! I see no need for a custom ROM... yet! So far I'm loving this phone and I've only had it for a day, can;t wait for that next update hopefully we get it soon to fix some stuff. Other than that, this thing is smooth as butter!
I haven't even rooted mine yet and it's been over a week. I usually root the first day or two.

I kinda agree... Except there are some cool root apps... And I wanted to uninstall a bunch of bloat apps.
That's why I went with team Sonic's freegs4.... It just like stock with some basic tweaks and some apps are uninstallable.

I will agree that this phone offers the best stock experience I've ever had. If you're a tweaker like me though, custom ROM's are a must. I hightly recommend Blu Kuban. AOSP ROM's are also quite enjoyable, especially with Halo.
Also, man I wish the Hyperdrive ROM that's out for the Verizon variant would make its way to us. That ROM looks amazing.

You think you got something smooth, run a custom rom with the tweaks, you will not go stock again. It is up you. You can always go back to stock, run WanamLite, Basically stock with the tweaks, super fast, and just as stable. Sorry, but you are missing out.

Lol, some of us bought it for the hardware - I think the whole eye watching thing is gimmick, and the pedometer is consistently off. AOSP really delivers in terms of speed and customization, which many desire. Speed + Customization > Gimmicks.
I'd also like to add that I'm still running stock so....

Every person commenting in this thread I think is why we all belong to XDA Developers. Absolutely no ASOP for me and definitely no CM but that's just me. If I were buying strictly for the hardware, I might very well have gone a different route. I bought for the hardware and the software.

Cm/aosp is always smoother since there is no bloat, compare 1.5GB for stock rooted to 300mbs for an aosp based ROM. But the features are gone. And the camera isn't as good.

I don't think you realize what kind of work porting these roms means. These are huge projects, and not every developer that works with aosp is capable to do that. These roms have different frameworks...to name one of the major difficulties (This is not the same what making a nice theme) Anyway, Sense project has already been started. It doesn't boot yet unfortunately. And as far as I remember Galaxy Nexus doesn't have fully working ports.

Possible yes, probably not. It's not just that Android versions have to be same, the hardware has to be similar too. Even then it would need months of work, experimenting, etc. Optimus g is almost the replica of the nexus 4 , even then porting LG ui is not complete. That's how hard it is.

Exactly and here we're talking about three different and sometimes by far more complex ports (not to mention different screen resolutions). Possible in theory? yes! I do like the idea very much. However probability to build a daily driver is rather very low. Every single project would take simply too long.
writing [request] in the thread title doesn't mean it's gonna happen
Yup i agree, its a long way to get these roms working! But its not impossible and we have a pretty awesome devs lineup and an awesome community as well

It seems slg1119 from the at&t optimus g thread managed to port htc sense 5.0 and make it boot but, besides touch everything else doesn't work. It's a start and maybe someone could port that for the nexus 4.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2353971
there are a lot of proprietary stuff in those roms. it's not gonna happen. use icon packs, 3rd party lockscreen apps etc.. to replicate a sense or touchwiz feel, but you'll never get those air gesture, smart stay and what else features.
i respect that some people like those OEM skins, but i know i would never flash a sense or touchwiz rom even if there were totally bug free ports available for my nexus. Since the galaxy nexus days, it's clean vanilla for me all the way.
A sense 5 port would be cool
if we can get s4 camera feature only is that possible or htc's
It would be cooler to be able to port the actual apps to the nexus. Like porting the framework to work on the nexus 4 ROMs. I personally do not need all that bloatware from Samsung/Sony or HTC.
