So I have the Nexus 6 and my wife has the iPhone 6. This seems to be something very basic but I can't seem to figure out the best method. Do you guys have a good method of sharing videos between the two devices? I know I can send a Dropbox link (or similar) but is there a way to transfer the video directly? MMS greatly reduces the quality of the video and I don't believe I can send it via Hangouts. Is there another good method that lets me send the video directly without forcing her to clicking a link and then downloading it? Thanks.

if its smaller than 25mb, you can send it via gmail. any larger size then you will have to upload it somewhere(like youtube for example) and share the link.
Kind of crazy that there isn't a better method. Airdrop with iPhones works great so I'm surprised there is no cross platform similar service.

If you are trying to share the video with somebody who is nearby, Android's built in Beam should work as well (Android to Android only though). With Lollipop, the Ancdoid Beam has been improved to support all file types.
Personally, I rely on the auto-upload to G+ and share from there (or a manual upload to Youtube and share from there)

NextNexus,
Give this a shot! http://instashareapp.com/
Looks like it may do what you need!
Tell them to come to you and show it to them on your phone. Their iPhone screen is so small, if they look on their phone, they won't be able to see what you want to show them.
Yeah this is the only thing I hate about being an android guy with iPhone friends. But I just utilize messaging apps like WhatsApp or Facebook messenger or email it.

I did all the searching I could before posting this so I hope my first thread doesn't turn out to be a fail. Firstly I got root on my phone the other day and installed the Magic image and it works really well!
My question is does anyone know if browser uploads can be enabled somehow through root? I have a torrent server setup at a friends ISP and it would be really nice to be able to upload torrent files to it on the go. Is this currently possible or is there anyone currently trying to get it working?

you might rename this thread to something like Torrent/Browser Uploads .. there may be other people looking for info on this .. i honestly have no clue .. there is only one other thread talking about torrent connections and that's via tethering .. so there could be some connection

happy reading!
I guess I should elaborate, what I am talking about specifically is when you go to a page with an upload form, where you would normally select a file it just says "Uploads Disabled".
I'm not actually trying to do torrents on the phone, I essentially just want to upload a file over the browser.
Have you tried with the steel browser?

Most likely uploads like that are blocked by the carrier. If they allowed that it would bog down their network and slow everyone else down. The only uploads permitted are pictures to like facebook or myspace.
Well if i remember quite correct , it also says "UPLOAD DISABLED" when surfing via WIFI ..
Its more due to the fact that the G1 has no file browser by default and the published one doesnt go deep enough into the system (aka the browser just dont recognize them) ... :-Z
//EDIT:
see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467209

What torrent application are you running on this server? BarTor handles torrent uploads to several popular torrent clients (uTorrent, Vuze, KTorrent). If it's not one of those, we can certainly look into supporting the client you are using. I realize this is not quite the same as what you are asking for but I thought I'd chime in anyway.

This sucks .. for each site and upload a different app <.<
Huh? BarTor is one app, which enables download of torrent files from anywhere and upload to anywhere that is running one of the supported torrent download clients. It was only a suggestion as an option for darrin0101.
I get what you are saying though, and if this post was not specifically about torrent uploading, I'd probably not have commented at all. I wonder why no one has recompiled the browser with a file manager, or to use an existing one? I'd do it if I didn't have to download the entire android source to do it...
Well, i would if i could more than php and mysql ^^
I don't know if a filemanager can take the role for this because i dont know if the browser has a pick file hook
further this should be for nonrooted android users as well
But i would'nt say no to a fix for this only for rooted users :>
Just set up an FTP server on the remote system, and use one of the FTP clients on the market for uploading? uTorrent allows for automatic loading of new torrents in a specific folder.
Oh, and shall i upload pictures to websites this way too?
attach files to rapidshare this way too?
attach files at a forum this way too?
and so on..
has there been any progress on this yet? i would like to be able to upload pictures to my site, which is wordpress powered so i have an upload form.
Maybe give loccy a ring and see if he knows how.

I doubt that's doable granted it would probably involve modifying objects in the Browser.apk, so the people who would be able to use it on their phones would be the rooted users who can push modified browsers to their Android phones.
U have to use the oprea browser it let u upload anything.
i don't like opera too much, granted it works for this issue but the ui is ugly imho. besides i'm a bit ocd and i prefer to have the original pieces of software but working the way they should have been from the start. which usually means modding the stuff that came on the phone

i couldnt get opera to work on www.youtube.com
youtube.com probably won't work with any browser, at least until java for android comes out. why not just use the youtube app?
So I know this has been an issue since at least the G1, and that there's a sort of workaround either using Linda File Mgr for Gmail uploads or use the Opera browser. Most of the posts out there on this issue are old now so apologies if I've missed something current sifting through everything...
Does a patch/fix/hack exist yet for the unrooted N1/2.1 to correct what seems to be a perpetual Google "beta" bug they have no interest in addressing? I mean, my world won't end if I can't upload a new pic to Facebook or video to Youtube, but it's a glaring omission from an otherwise great handset. Or is it an intentional nod to the carriers for bandwidth sake?
OK so, duh. I realized that if you long press on a photo or video in the gallery then click 'share' it gives you a bunch of options for places to upload to.
However...it's still extremely lame to not be able to upload anything from the stock browser, e.g., uploading pics to a blog or non-sponsored service when that uploading has to happen via the site's form (as opposed to FTP). I know Flash 10.whatever is a part of that, but plenty of sites use Java to handle uploads. Maybe that's what I'm missing...maybe the 'Upload Disabled' button shows up automatically on the Flash sites and I just haven't come across a Java-based site yet.
I would love to see this fixed soon, but just as an FYI, the fix has been committed to the Android source (not yet in AOSP) for Froyo:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2519#c112
Bump.... is this fixed in Froyo? If so can it be back ported to 2.1?
Confirmed working in stock Froyo. I can upload images, music tracks, sound clips to popular websites (e.g. Rapidshare).

Yep, stock browser.
From the looks of it, yes it does only allow me to access the SD card. I'm also limited to the categories I mentioned above (there's no "Other" option).

Hi guys, I have just found out that a skype video call software is out for HTC thunderbolt but can anyone crack it to use it on our SGS?
The apk can be found here:
http://lts.cr/YAV
I hope this is not a repeat thread, before it was EVO which got video calling but I guess it was exclusively for some US network!
Thanks!
Bump-age
Hope so. Or even to fix the Gtalk video calling so we can use the front camera.
Skype video calling is WAY WAY WAY overdue. I know it not the fault of anyone here though.
Screw Skype. If they don't want to cater to Android users, I don't want to use them either.
When posts talk about skype and android being a no go , is it the general skype app or does this take into account
the skype on three app.The three one works just fine with a three sim card in.
Edit. Sorry bout this post, must have been half asleep last night, the word video didn't register in my brain as being the actual post subject, I just saw skype.
Has anyone tried Qik? Skype purchased it recently and my bet is we'll see the two combined before long.

What do you mean they don't cater for Android ?? Video call support is nice to have, but for most users (including me) voice call support is enough; except for few GUI bugs they have done a pretty decent job with Android Skype app, far better than what Nimbuzz or Fring ever did for Skype voice. Besides, only iOS has video support, that too was added late last year. IMO they will eventually add video support.
I don't understand why they haven't added it to the Android app yet.
I once thought it was because of missing front-camera API's that Google only recently introduced in Gingerbread, but that can't be the reason, since there are a lot of other apps that allow video-calling and work on Froyo.
I wouldn't bother with Skype anyway, were it not for the sheer number of users and the presence on virtually all platforms.
People are begging for a true multiplattform app that allows videocalling to any device (not only iPhone to Mac or Android to GMail).
And since a lot of people use Skype, it's just the easiest way to go (until Facebook introduces video-calling, whicht won't take too long I'm guessing).
Anyway, enough of this, I hope somebody can modify the mentioned app and make it work on our SGS.
Yahoo messenger supports video calls if you guys really want video support between a PC and Andoid/iOS.
Some ppl have already tried to get it working on other phones here. But looks like they have given up on it.

"The following devices support VGA quality resolution during Video Chat over Wi-Fi: Samsung Galaxy Tab, Samsung Galaxy Player, Samsung Galaxy S, and Telus Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate 4G"

Unfortunatelly this is a big fault of WP and/or Adobe... as it is not possible to send via Email a pdf....but there are some workarounds :
1: You can upload your email/file to skydrive and, through the official skydrive app you can share the link to the file
or
2: you could use Handyscam official app to share a pdf from your phone

Thanks for the good suggestions for work-arounds on this issue. I have and occasionally use Handyscan.
My wife, an iPhone user, is able to do this, which is important in her work.
There is almost nothing that can be said when someone asks what another platform can do that WP can’t, but this one is a clean kill and it frustrates me.
My question is: Will they fix this in WP8? Is anyone addressing this?
Thanks!
It seems that WP8 will feature the possibility for Apps to share files with each other (as found in the leaked SDK). This should also enable attaching files to E-Mails but we will have to wait an see wether Adobe implements that feature into their Acrobat Reader. This is not possible with WP7.x though.

to answer your last question.
Vbukit is based on a technology we created called Virtual Bucket which is designed from the ground up to give you not only dramatic increase in security, but also total privacy and complete anonymity.
The system is completely blind to who or where the sender is, who or where the receiver is, and what you are sending.
I know its a new concept but we make sure you actually have real privacy.
So there is ZERO TRACKING, ZERO DATA COLLECTION, ZERO ADVERTISING!!!!
And we also don't charge you for using the system either.
That being said, to make a platform that allows this much privacy, security, and work with nearly every type of device and on nearly every OS is not an easy task.
we hope that clears up any concerns you might have and appreciate what we've built and that we are constantly improving the system which only recently fully came out for public use.
thank you from the Vbukit Team.

We do not currently have pptx file type integrated.
We do offer ppt and you can also convert your powerpoint to pdf.
Both those should work perfect, but pptx we do not support right now.

Don't get me wrong man but
#1 just inform about formats supported on play store site and if app is not stable yet rebrand it to Vbukit BETA because user rating will reach rock bottom level and comments will stone app/brand to death.
#2 In app add filetype not supported prompt if someone select popular, but not supported format.
#3 It's also worth to mention other apps limitations like filesize limits
Edit:
Using HTTPS instead of HTTP would also be dramatic increase in security and anonymity you mentioned.
Also adding straight Privacy Policy would be nice. What you do to protect data, info about data retention.
Office 2010 formats (.docx, .pptx, .xlsx etc) are generally not well-supported by third party applications. I have trouble with them even in Salesforce.
The older Office 2007-compatible formats (.doc, .ppt, .xls, etc) work much better.
@Vbukit thanks for taking the time to reach out and clarify the issues here.
Pretty cool that you're not data mining, I admit that I wondered about that myself.
Answer
Chromecast's actual SDK libraries were released literally less than a week ago.
1. This is a public beta
2. This is a very complex platform that does many many things, and works on dozens of devices on multiple OS's
3. Unlike basically all others, we don't track you, advertise to you, or charge you.
So how about some positive support
---------- Post added at 12:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:56 AM ----------
Thanks for the suggestion.
actually on chromecast it is running on HTTPS. Google mandates that.
the core system runs on HTTPS, but the front end hides that so that it can work on more devices.
we've found a good number of devices such as many smart tv's still don't like https, so we found a way to overcome that issue while still keeping the security.
but thank you for the suggestion, it is a good one and we're always open to other suggestions.
1. I am using the android version
2. From phone storage (I can't get anything to show up in the google drive on vbukit)
3. It is a pptx

Solution
Great, this is very helpful.
Unfortunately, pptx is not handled well, so we do not support it.
What we do support currently support is ppt.
Additionally, you can save your pptx file as a pdf and we support that as well.
But unfortunately pptx right now we don't support.
As for Google Drive. If you don't see the file, Its because as stated, we don't support pptx.
I suggest you do a save as of your pptx and save it as either a ppt or pdf file format.
Then you should be good not only in seeing it in your Google Drive, but also in being able to cast it to the screen.
I hope this helps and i'll mark a note to inform you if in the future we offer pptx, which is on our road map.
Let me know if you need anything else and don't forget to comment and rate us positively.
Apps name before my suggestion:
Vbukit for Chromecast - Android Apps on Google Play and after Vbukit Chromecast Public Beta - Android Apps on Google Play
Vbukit User - Android Apps on Google Play and after Vbukit User (Public Beta)
@ https you're right, things are loaded from amazons cloud.
What meant and didn't say - in web browsers www.vbukit.com starts HTTP session not HTTPS so MITM is theoretically possible. Partial encryption will always be partial.
Good Idea
Oh, I get what you are saying now.
Thank you, that's helpful. I'll speak with my team and look to implement it.
Please let us know if you come up with other good ideas and have a great rest of the week.

Ok, we now see what you mean.
In the past week, we had a massive increase in the number of users and it has now revealed an instability specific to only android, in dealing with office files.
We are putting the whole team on this and will have a solution very soon, I promise. Its good you pointed this out, because oddly enough, you were the only one who said something.
having community members like you make things possible, so thank you for informing us.
So at this point i have two positive pieces of news for you.
1. If you convert your pptx to a pdf, you will be absolutely fine. That will work, i tested it myself. Its only the microsoft office files this bug causes problems with. So convert your pptx to pdf and you'll be set.
2. Because you've been so helpful and nice about this issue, unlike some internet trolls, i've stepped up work on not just solving the ppt problem, but also because of you, i've accelerated work to get pptx.
So for now, use PDF, and hopefully in a few days, you'll be able to use PPT and a very good chance we'll have PPTX.
Thanks again, and expect the fix in the next update.
