I don't know about you guys, but I've never been a fan of Swype or Samsung's keyboard, but I loved the Android Keyboard. Does anyone know if it works or have the apk for it? I wanna try and put it back on my 2.2 install and test it out.
I just found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744373
Looks kinda like what I was looking for, but without the little part that slides upwards for the numbers.
This is what you're looking for.
LatinIME.apk
1. Put it on your SD card
2. Install via whatever you like to use.
or use the ADB to install it.
Thank you. That was just what I looking for. Only thing is, even when I enable the vibrate on keypress, it's not giving me any haptic feedback.
I'm using the keyboard here, listed under FroYo.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740301
Just install it as a regular app.
And do you get haptic feedback on the Android kb?
Edit: Yepp, the one from the AOSP thread actually has working feedback. Thank you MikeyMike.
Edit2: I lied. It doesn't. Lol
I've been using AnySoftKeyboard from the market.

Guys... You can enable it in the input options...
Settings > Locale and Text > Android Keyboard.
I know that. In 2.2 there is no android keyboard, they got rid of it. I want it back because I find it superior. However none of the ones I've installed have haptic feedback like they did on 2.1 and that's what I want. And yes I know that you have to enable it in the settings.

Thank you man, you're a lifesaver

I don't know if I hate haptic feedback or the samsung keyboard more. The Android keyboard is the best one out there (IMHO)
My whole point in creating this thread was to get the Android Keyboard back on 2.2 and have it fully functioning. Meaning I wanted the haptic feedback on it to work and it doesn't. Was there another file or something that went with the LatinIME.apk on 2.1 that I don't know about or couldn't find? Can anybody shed some light on this situation? I desperately hate the Swype and Samsung Keyboards.
No luck with this? I would like to have the Android 2.1 keyboard back as well. (with the hepatic response)
No luck. But I think I may know what the problem is.
On a few of the android keyboards I've seen around the forums, some of them had a corresponding .so file. I don't really know what that is, but I'll go do some research, rummage through my JF6 dump, and post my results here.
Edit1: Ok, so here is what I found. A .so file is a shared object file. Not quite sure what it actually does still, but the Android Keyboard (AOSP) has a .so file that goes with it. I'm guessing that this file is what allows the keyboard to have haptic feedback. I'm going to take the one from my JF6 dump and push it to JI6 and see what happens after a reboot.

can't use both of them at the same time as they both use the same file names.
EDIT: they do have option for vibrate on key press (haptic) though doesnt work.
Neither of them have haptic feedback on 2.2. I just tried both. And yes I did enable it in the keyboard settings. This is really frustrating. Why the heck did they remove this keyboard??

just realized it doesnt work though it is an option. my fault!
i never liked it anyways so im not missing anything
I'm experiencing the same thing, default froyo keyboard on a captivate with froyo, no haptic feedback.
So far I've tried:
- a bunch of different google searches for the same issue
- finding the apk in /system/app and giving it full permissions + reboot + uncheck and recheck the haptic feedback setting
- poking around the file system to see if I can find any settings to mess with
I understand froyo for the captivate is pretty new, but I'm surprised more people aren't asking about the best keyboard (IMO) missing a significant feature.
I agree. This is a superb keyboard and should not have been taken out

Yes I agree that the Android keyboard is awesome! Actually it was one of the reasons I liked my switch from iPhone. It's so easy to type with unlike most touch keyboards. Why in the world would Samsung get rid of it? Talk about a step backwards. I hesitate to update my phone now. I hope someone can come up with the perfect fix....
*typed on my android keyboard*
I just wish I could figure out a way to hack it back onto 2.2 in 100% working order. Everything works except for the haptic feedback and I cannot figure out why.

Took me a while to find this post and was wondering if anything has come of this? I just recenetly flashed to the latest cognition froyo build and ran into this exact same issue, however their latest build came with an android keyboard. Has anyone found a solution to this?
I have recently found the Full Keyboard app in the Market; it's great to use in the Terminal Emulator and SSH software. After you install it on the Tab it works great, fills the proper part of the screen. The problem comes in after you do a reboot, after the reboot the keyboard does not scale properly and leaves white gaps on the left and right sides.
This can be fixed by manually doing a Force Stop, and then selecting the Full Keyboard again from Settings. Does anyone have any ideas how to address this issue without having to Force Stop and restart the Full Keyboard app?
The application can be seen here: http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-hmw-android-fullkeyboard-npwE.aspx
I have tried using the Spare Sparts application to adjust the scaling ("compatibility mode"), but it does not seem to have effect on the Full Keyboard App.
I am still struggling with the above issue, if anyone has any ideas please respond. The workaround is rather annoying. Thanks!
One last try... does anyone have any thoughts?
I tried this on another Tab and had the same results, so I know it's not my device.

UPDATE:
I have found a keyboard called "Hacker Keyboard" in the Market. It is much much better for command line.
I loved the gesture that lets you move your cursor in a text field by tapping the side of a phone. I tried it yesterday and it worked just fine. However, I tried it today and it's not working. I tried some other gestures too, and none of them seem to work, despite being enabled in the settings.
Does anyone else have this problem or know a solution? My phone is rooted and I have disabled a couple of apps (Carhome, F-secure and Lg launcher). First I thought it might be because of this, but enabling the Lg launcher didn't fix the problem.
Same problem here. Not rooted and totally stock.
How did you root it cause is impossibile for me??i have firm 2.2.2

I just followed these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953182 It was super easy, though I had to reboot after rooting. I have 2.2.2 too. If you have problems, maybe you should ask help in that thread if you didn't already.
ale, see magfal's thread here. Seriously, this phone isn't cheap- let LG know what's wrong with it. Hopefully, the incoming update will clear this "gestures" issue!
There's nothing wrong with the gestures, they just don't work with anything other than stock keyboard, stock videoplayer etc.. I just don't get why they would tie it to stock apps when they could have done it properly so it would work with any app. E.g. tapping the side would issue "arrow"/"trackball" left/right/up/down, double-tap would issue next track/previous track and so on. Cool feature though.

You're right. I switched back to stock keyboard and it worked just fine. Too bad it only has one keyboard layout and is therefore pretty much useless to me. Typing with the English qwerty is way too slow when there's no buttons for all the letters I need.
Hey together,
couldn't find an answer and the official WhatsApp support wasn't much of a help either, so here's my problem:
I'm using a HTC One, all stock, WhatsApp+ v.3.58 and SwiftKey 4.1.1.146.
Whenever I type something and want to add an emoticon, the Emoji window doesn't "replace" the actual keyboard. It just comes on top, which takes away a lot of space, is very inconvenient and forces me to first use the back button in order to send my message. When I minimize the keyboard and then press the emoji button, the layout looks fine.
I have tried it with the normal WhatsApp, the stock keyboard and also various versions of the respective software.I attached two screenshots, one is how it looks after I typed, the other one how it's actually supposed to look.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: Updatet SwiftKey to newest version. Same problem
I got the same problem.
I'm using a Nexus 4, tried both the original whatsapp and whatsapp plus.
Stock keyboard and Swiftkey, nothing seems to solve the problem...
Someone found out what's wrong?
I have the same issue with my Nexus 4 and HTC One too.
I've managed to solve the problem by disabling "Pie Control". Not sure if this helps.
Use the official app, when I remember right this doesn't work with WA+ or try to change the hight of the emoji area to the stock value

this is the only one i found.. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...1bGwsMSwxLDEsImplbGx5YmVhbmtleWJvYXJkLmYuZyJd
it works however it doesnt strech the keys as much as it should be. if anyone has another version thats better please let me know as im also interested!
You may have to copy the APK to /system/app/ and reboot your phone. You'll have to be rooted, of course.
My other suggestion is to try TouchPal, even if Swype isn't your thing. It's a free keyboard, so you don't really have anything to lose trying it.
