Hi All,
I have a sim free (network unlocked) Exynos Note 4 N910U which I purchased on 10th November in anticipation for the Gear VR. Upon release of the Gear VR I ordered it immediately off samsung's website and arranged shipping to New Zealand. I'm now concerned the necessary firmware update has not been made available to use the Gear VR on my device.
Model: SM-N910U
Baseband: N910UXXU1ANK5
Kernel: 3.10.9-3324673
Kies and the Software Update check on the phone both confirm I have the latest updates installed. After downloading the SDK and installing Oculus 360 photos, Oculus 360 videos, Oculus Cinema and Oculus Sample the Gear VR app fails to install with the message "The Gear VR is not compatible with your current software. An update will be available soon.".
I am not tied to any network provider therefore the only delay in recieving the update is from Samsung. There was no warning that the Gear VR would not work initially with the Exynos version however all US carriers sell the Snapdragon which makes me uneasy. Is there anything I can do to ensure the Gear VR will work successfully when it arrives on Monday or must I wait for Samsung to decide to push the necessary OTA update for my model?
I'm quite disappointed with the lack of communication from Samsung in this regard, I would have purchased a snapdragon handset if I had known this would be an issue. My main driver for purchasing the Note 4 was to use the Gear VR, I hope I'm worrying over nothing and all is resolved soon.
Cheers,
Phil
Please keep us informed.
It was supposed it was going to work with Exynos as John Carmack said. Perhaps when he said it was lagging SnapDragon he was refering to a delay in the release.
Im in the same situation. I live in Brazil and we have the Exynos version here too.
My Gear VR will arrive on Sunday and I know it wont work right away. Please let me know what you find about this.
DId you post this in Oculus Forums and Reddit?
Also, what about the region lock that I read somewhere? Are you going to try to access Oculus Aplications through a VPN or it´s not needed?
Regards,
Luciano.
Hi Luciano,
I've posted on Oculus Forum, Samsung Dev Forum, Reddit and here about this issue - I've even tweeted John Carmack.. getting desperate now!
Samsung tech support had no details on when to expect a firmware update and Customer Support teams have been told to say "Gear VR only works with US devices at this time".
I would be fairly confident once your Note4 loads the Oculus Home app that it will work with the Gear VR, still waiting on the first examples outside the US to 100% confirm. Same with region locking I would guess this is down to the handset location at the time of logging in - nothing to do with the Gear VR. If it exists, a VPN should get around that problem nicely.
All in all I'm very disappointed with Samsung, as I said to the Tech Support guy, if I had known this would be an issue I would have imported a Snapdragon 805 version.
Yeah.. that sucks!!
I managed to install the Oculus SDK and all the apps on my Note. When I try to run, it says something like: Gear VR is not compatible with your phone right now, an update will fix that.
Where´s the update, SAMSUNG?
Lets hope somebody get a way around this quickly or Samsung releases an update soon.
Same problem here

You can amend your build.prop to trick gear VR to think its updated (this works). Check the treads ... I am trying a workaround to install the verizon firmware on my mobile and see if it will work to update ... Lets see. I'll keep you posted.
Nic that would be great please let us know if its a success!
My gear will be with me within 36 hours, and ive been considering flashing a US/EU firmware to use the gear then flash a stock firmware when Im done but would be great if someone else tried it first
Honestly I beleieve the more ppl who call and email Samsung Tech Support the more likely a release will be forthcoming. If you have an Exynos Note 4 and plan on ordering the GearVR PLEASE contact Samsung and ask for the firmware upgrade.

Just tried to flasj it with Verizon firmware .. no joy. Only workaround is to amend your build.prop and trick the Gear VR to think it has that update.
Thanks for trying Nic. Is there any documentation or threads on how to edit the build.prop for that purpose?

Yea would like to know it too. Thx.
Will this workaround work for exynos version?
As far as flashing the us firmware, Im sure it is not possible to flash a quad core firmware on a octa core Device.
Please keep us posted, Im getting my gear VR tomorrow.
Check this out : http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...veloper-edition-t2914717/page152#post57477772
Havent tried yet.
My GearVR arrives tomorrow, if you guys get this working please let us know. If not I'll give it a shot tomorrow.
Didn't intend on rooting by device and voiding my warranty after 1 month but if Samsung is forcing us to go to these lengths to use the GearVR I guess I'll deal with it
I guess you could always flash the original firmware back and remove any trace of anything that would void your warranty. Also, I dont think rooting makes you lose the warranty on faulty hardware, does it?
I will Also try on monday, when my gear VR arrives.
Good luck.
Using CF Auto Root it will trip the Knox counter and void your warranty. I've never used my warranty on any mobile device before, fingers crossed this isn't the one time I need it!
Wouldnt it only void your knox warranty? If your camera breaks, for ex, I think you still have warranty for that. Its unrelated.
Anyways, my Device is rotted already.
Ok.. My Gear VR arrived and of course, didn[t work.\
I tried changing the build.prop to what was suggested in other thread but my phone always ended up in bootloop. I managed to recover my original build.prop using TWRP recovery.
Anyone else had better luck?
Im open to suggestions to try now...

It has been good for you yet. Don't try to update to OF3 or OF4. That's suck.
Keep you current version until we can root or get Android 5.1.1 or M. Because 5.0.2 has a big bug : pretty lags in used.
But the S6A gets lag too much. It can be fixed by disable some apps and better battery : All ATT apps, samsung push,, vv..
use this app and you can disable them.

Some developers used the older version to root it inside.
If the ATT improve security of S6A, it means 90% the OF4 or more will not get root .
I was bad when I updated to OF3, the battery drain to much.
Just keep the OE9 if you are in

Like other people who unlocked the S6 to use in their home network, I would not be seeing this update, even though it is a good sign that AT&T is rolling out the Stagefright update
At the very least, I hope we get the stock rom image released eventually....
Kind of off topic, but using package disabler and selecting "disable all bloatware" has pretty much eliminated all lag for me.

hey, thanks for trying, i just got my tablet today,...suprisingly, native hotspot works without any limitations or extra apps (i still have UDP), but i would like root so i can enable all apps to be multiwindow! i use in the car with waze for navigation split screened with my podcast/media player app. waze isn't enabled for multiwindow, and neither are some of my other apps i use on a daily basis. overall though, i am impressed with the tablet, except the frame is plastic-y, wish it had some kind of metal frame instead but still nice. "upgrading" from note pro 12.2 verizon, but i think i'll still hold on to it because i have it working the way i want, bought this new one specifically for phantom 4, until i get comfortable using it as my daily tablet.
thanks again for trying the srsroot app. guess we're still **** out of luck rooting.
i think there is an app out there that EDITS/MODIFIES an apk to enable multiwindow mode, but doesnt work with all apps, and some apps that depend on certain services or accounts and verifying don't work properly, rooting was the only easy way to enable multiwindow for everything for me.

Got it installed OTA (had to manually pull it) last night on my Tab S 10.6 Wi-Fi T800 USA. Initial impressions are that it's definitely faster & smoother. Camera seems a touch faster to launch and focus but maybe it's just the placebo effect. Too early to tell on battery life yet. I sure wish they had tweaked the ROM a bit more and dumped the Hancom Office apps and replaced them with MS Office like on the Tab S2. Oh well. I can live without the major cosmetic changes too. I definitely feel like performance is finally back to where it was when this thing ran 4.4.4. It took absolutely forever but I am glad to see Samsung finally serving us a decent 6.0.1 build to put this fine tablet out to pasture in style.
Now, how about a Tab S3 10.5 refresh with Type-C, Samsung!?
Thanks Samsung by hearing us! We love you!

Finally after months and months waiting after Marshmallow update, it's good to get it ready installed. Additionally, besides the good results testing it last day, I'd like to add that the security update is dated August, 2016, that it's good after all the issues in all Android devices due the backdoors identified and all the Trojan risks. No themes available (like at S6/S7 marshmallow versions), but more reliable and long lasting operation due the battery management. Really, really thanks Samsung! For me, Tab S still will be rocking for a while, I don't like the screen format copied from Apple in S2, I'd like the Tab S screen size 16:9 instead 4:3...no compliance, right now just compliments for you Samsung!!! I'll continue being a real fan and loyal customer for really good things, and technologically speaking, Samsung always does the best (they accepted immediately replace all Note 7 devices once they validated the battery issue, only biggest brands accepts and fix their mistakes immediately).. we're human beings!!
Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 SM-T800 Wifi US (English) device with official marshmallow update running like a charm!!

Yes I used Odin to flash it over the New Zealand version. I didn't notice any differences yet but I haven't really spent much time checking it out. I really wanted to do a factory reset before flashing but It takes me days to reinstall and reconfigure everything and I'm too lazy to go through that again.
Hi just a newbie here, I'm from the Philippines. I would like to ask if the US marshmallow update will work with my Tab S even if my Tab is not a US variant? I will do the flash thing. the size of the US update is 1.6 Gb. Thank you.
Hey everyone I'm a long time lurker and fan of XDA - I searched, and searched, and searched more... prior to ordering this phone to find out if Samsung Pay (spay) would work on the unlocked 935f/ds and with ZERO modifications other than let everything update everything just worked with zero issues.
The only thing that may have caused this to work is I set my language / location to the UK when I first initially booted the phone and that was purely on accident as I just kept tapping next like a child on Christmas eager to get this baby working.
I'll attach screenshots in a post in a few moments, if anyone else needs more pics to help get there spay to work let me know!
Phone: Note FE 935f/ds
Network: ATT
Location: Illinois - US
Drop a thumbs up or a comment if anyone decided to buy an FE because of this lol.

I think it works because of your galaxy s7 csc which is probably matching your region/carrier
Does anyone know what's going on? I received the latest update for my watch and the release notes says that it includes this but it's nowhere to be found.

Is it released in Italy?
Maybe it is like in FR, Spo2 is not available yet. According to samsung it is because they're not authorized yet. But might be just because their sensors and systems are flawed or just suck.
Apple and Withings had this validated in no time...

I have no idea, but I see italy is not in their blacklist (unlike France and other countries). Being SpO2 one of coronavirus symptoms, hope this gets finalized soon...

Do you know if there is an unlocked version of s health that would allow me to use the sp02 widget? i changed my CSC from canada to USA and then to KOO to get the new update, BP and ECG work fine and i can see the widget in the wearable app but it wont let me save it to the watch and it doesnt appear in s health, i have a SM-R820 on tizen 5.5.0.1 R820XXU1CTH8 paired with a Pixel 4xl. Do you think it could be because I'm in canada that its restricted?
