I've been getting the "System update downloaded" card popping up over the past day on my Live, but I can't install it. It needs to reboot to recovery and install it, but I have TWRP installed, so it just goes to the recovery main menu and does nothing.
Is there any way to install updates with the way my watch is currently, or do I have to flash stock recovery, update, then reflash TWRP?
Did you get it to work?
I flash stock wear recovery, then installed update. Went into recovery and started to install then it stopped and gave me the android with the triangle.
Downloading update from android police, i will try to adb sideloade update.

No, the exact same thing happens to me, and I get "Status 7" error and the same screen you got.
I used Tomsgt utility to lock bootloader and stock recovery.went to settings, system updates. Started to download update. After it downloaded flashed update. All is good. I'm on 5.0.1
Good luck! Let me know if this works for you.

I had to flash the stock KMV78Y located here before I could update (that's what the status 7 was about).
All good now.

Download the OTA package here
Rename it to update.zip, and place it on the root of your internal storage
Shut down your phone, and reboot into the bootloader by holding volume up and powering back on
Choose "recovery" from the list, and select it with the power button
When you see the red triangle press volume up and choose to update

IF YOU ARE ON CWM:
Just got an Android 2.3.1 update for Nexus S. It's on ROM manager if you want it. Make sure you flash recovery 3.0.
Also, for this to work you must be on Stock Recovery. This will not flash properly if you are using clockwork recovery

Correct. Koush is currently looking at fixing this for CWM.
Can we try to update and flash the zip using adb?
This was just tweeted:

edit nevermind got update
I just got prompted OTA for this update. Anyone know it I was to accept it, would I have any problems since I changed my recovery to ClockWork recovery?
I know it's been said it's on rom manager now, I am just curious if there would be any potential problems of accepting OTA updates with the stock recovery gone.
I have cwm recovery flashed and looked in Rom manager but is getting that "the rom you are using does not support ota updates etc" How did you manage to get Rom manager to update it to GRH78??
ive tried every way listed on xda but still get a "error 7" when trying to flash the update. i am using stock rom with clockwork 3.0. anyone having the same issue or any way to fix it?
usb disabled?
Got the message from Google to update. So I let it do its thing, said unable to update zip and now seems my usb connection is broken. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I'm on NS despite my sig Also on CWR 3.0 unlocked
are we supposed to be able to install this 2.3.1 update that we download from rom manager?

Well there is very little info in OP
and could be worded little better to avoid confusion
You have to put on Wifi and go to download ROM for some reason if you on on mobile network it wont show the update in rom manager
Dont bother it wont. From what i gathered we have to wait for modified version
Download the zip, choose to open with rom manager and it will flash fine with cw recovery 3.0.0.

Got great news! I got it to work! All I did was put the .zip file on the root of my sd and used Rom manager to "download rom" chose the .zip file and voila!! It installed everything fine. I am officially on GRH78. Hope that helps people out!
is this with the paid version or non-paid?
the CWM update will work of you have not used Koush's rooboot.img and are running a the rooted boot.img.
He said he will release a version later tonight that should work with rootbootimg installed as well.
glad im on stock recovery + root.

the problem is your "unlocked" bootloader. you can only get OTA updates with a "relocked" or "locked" bootloader.
just use fastboot and type in "fastboot oem lock" and it should work if your still on stock-rom.

The OTA. I havent downloaded any roms at all I'm still on stock

so you've downloaded a zip-file which contains the OTA update, right? if yes, you'd just have to flash this file in your recovery.
As I understand it, Your phone has a OTA available via [Settings - About - Software Updates]
You have downloaded and tried to install - but it boots the custom recovery instead of the stock recovery.
To fix this you would need to install a stock recovery.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2373111
Hope that was what you was after.

this was what i thought too, but then he mentioned his zip file... when you do an OTA via settings, you should never see this zip...
but i agree with SolCenva, flash stock recovery, lock your bootloader and it must work..
I just got an OTA.
http://android.clients.google.com/p...signed-nakasi-KRT16S-from-KRT16O.3aad414b.zip
Changelog: https://funkyandroid.com/aosp-KRT16O-KRT16S.html
My initial analysis.. It's tiny, 1.5 megs large. It's adding the recovery-from-boot.p stuff back, something I think disappeared in like 4.3 or so, so this will wipe out custom recovery when booted. Just remove the file from /system and re-flash recovery.
Bunch of files are patched, including build.prop for build info but it's still 4.4. No kernel change.
You'll have to re-root, as usual. This, with the recovery wipe, means you'll be using fastboot to flash recovery, re-flash supersu, etc.
AdAway is saying it can't remount /system. I didn't have this problem previously, so something might have changed here. I can do it manually in adb but AdAway keeps failing to do it itself.
Any idea what it does?

I just got the exact same thing! It looks like a patch to the original 4.4 OTA.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Analyzing, although I'm not the best at this. Looks like it's enabling the recovery-from-boot.p again, something that seemed to disappear in like 4.3. Will over-write custom recovery, so we'll have to delete the file from /system and re-flash CWM/TWRP.
It's patching a large number of other files, but I couldn't guess what it's doing. I'm sure someone else could.
It flashed fast enough on my system, I'll update if it changed to 4.4.1 or anything like that.
I've flashed the update KRT16S and recovery not wiped. Twrp still there and working.

My recovery is gone after that little update. I even tried reflashing it using fastboot and it was not installed after a reboot again so something is writing over TWRP on a reboot for me.

I also got the OTA update today. It blasted away TWRP and SU. Simple process to reload both.
BTW... the KRT16O update files no longer appear for download on the Nexus Factory Image page on Google, replaced with KRT16S.
ADAway has no problem for me. adaway 2.3 with superSU1.69. Both recovery image and supersu need to reinstall again.
I flashed stock recovery and unrooted just to be safe, then used ADB sideload to apply the update. All went well. I'm letting it sit for a while before flashing TWRP and installing SuperSU.......

The exact same thing happened to me when I tried to install the JWR66Y-to-KRT16O. I got lucky this time. Whew!
You could try downloading the full factory image from Google, extract the image files, and use fastboot flash. I would do that with boot.img and system.img
If that fails, you probably have something inside the system files that isn't stock.

I had my phone download this and then just copied it off. My phones build was 98.18.94. Not sure what the difference between this and 98.30 is. I'm rooted so I haven't installed it but it's here for anyone that wants it. My phone downloaded a different version than I found online. It was version 182.46.10XT907.Verizon.en.US. I don't know what other phone builds it will work with. Either way use at your own discretion.

My understand is that it should leave the bootloader unlocked. It will replace the recovery, radio and other system partitions. If you removed anything from the /system/apps folder then I think it will fail/abort install. I've removed some so I need/want to RSD back to stock and then update but if I do then I'll lose root which I use.
Yes, and with SELinux and some other enhancements in KitKat I wouldn't even take a future root for granted.

Posting updates on how to use this thru the stock recovery.
This is how it is supposed to be used:
1 - Flash LATEST stock SBF of JB thru RSD. (Android 4.1.2
Blur_Version.98.30.1.XT907.Verizon.en.US)
2 - After RSD flash reboot phone on stock recovery and proceed to install update from SD card, here select the file that is provided at the beginning of the thread.
3 - After this first flash completes, phone is going to reboot in recovery again, to open the menu of this specific recovery, the combo of the buttons is power + vol up.
4 - proceed to install from sd card again and select the same file that you selected on the second step.
5 - Wait for it to finish
6 - Wipe data/factory reset
7 - Select restart system, Phone will restart in KK, enjoy guys.
Keep in mind that you have to follow the explanation at the beggining of the thread or this one, if you dont follow this steps like this, you wont be able to install this update or you wont be able to finish installing the update.
is this the offical KK update?

I doubt it. It's for stock phones. It will need a stock recovery I do believe.
Hmmm..
My razr is stock & rooted, and I have manually removed several bloat apps. If I attempt to this update ota could it cause any harm to my system aside from possible abort/update fail? Will it remove root? Gracias.

My understanding is you can retain some root functionality using SuperSU Pro's Survival Mode. I believe you'll still lose R/W capability.
The best approach would be to unlock your bootloader. I've heard some success with custom recovery, though stock recovery would be best bet.

This method did not work for me after i flashed back to 98.30.1 the stock recovery doesnt see the update and i just get the android logo. When i go to software updates the service is unavailable/
my bootloader has unlock. and does it mean I can have root permission after I flash the stock zip package?
OK here it is, black and white and very simple:
Bootloader Locked - NO ROOT, NO CUSTOM RECOVERY.
Bootloader Unlocked - CWM Recovery and FULL ROOT with SuperSu.
That's it, no if ands or buts.

Hi Everyone
Just wondering if anyone has a problem with the current OTA update? Smallish 5MB file.
When my phone reboots I have a system error with the green Android man on his back.
Not Rooted, clean factory image install this weekend. So there shouldn't be any problems.
TIA

Yep completely stock. Needs to be for work. Have unlocked the bootloader, but not rooted.

about how much of the bar gets filled before it fails? about 40%ish of the way done usually indicates system fingerprint verification failed. You can also try installing it through recovery sideloading and it will give you more detailed feedback while installing that might help you pinpoint the problem.
Thank you...
The update reboots to recovery and falls over immediately.
Will have a go at sideloading through recovery.

Go to your recovery, and wipe cache partition. Then, boot up, and wait for OTA to be pushed to you again - this time, it should install ok.
