You flashed something that is not for your phone and you are pissed at Moto and Google? Take a look in the mirror and place your anger where it is deserved.

What exactly did you flash? Perhaps there's hope still... Depending what you flashed.
And yeah, phone makers don't make them with flashers and rooters in mind, we're the very small minority of overall customers. The blame for messing up our devices is always on us for fooling with them. They don't put guns to our heads and make us tinker with our systems. ?

Just the OTA
I flashed the Ota and since motorola is prefending us from flashing older bootloaders I hate them.

Also, let's see this link to this GPE file you flashed? Because I regret to inform you that there's no moto X GPE version.
What does that mean? That you indeed flashed something not made for your specific device. You must have flashed a Moto G or moto X 2014 file.
That or you're in the wrong section.
?

Oh... And flash tools often bypass securities about flashing to the wrong device.
Again, not Motorola's fault. ?
So, when 5.0 for the X comes out, it may flash to your device, hopefully.... But it may not. Flashing files for a different device often leads to a trip to a service center unfortunately.
Good luck!

xt1032
I flashed the files for the xt1032 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fK5bi8F4sz4

It worked but after the 5.01 update my phone got bricked :/

Is there any hint on when the 5.0 release might appear so that we can get the MotoFlash tool working?

Great. Thank you

What model is your device (meaning gsm dev, verizon dev, retail verizon, etc.)? You're probably going to have to restore with RSD Lite or fastboot if you can access fastboot mode. Do you have the android SDK installed? Do you have RSD Lite installed and what version?
i dont what device you have but here is a quick run down.
First there is 3 firmware version for most Moto X (most is the keyword)
4.2.2 Pre Camera
4.2.2Post Camera
4.4
never ever ever install 4.2.2 Pre camera firmware you will brick your phone.
with that being said i recommend downloaded either the 4.2.2 post camera or 4.4 firmware
booting your phone into fastboot mode and trying to flash the firmware via RSD Lite or mfastbot via the link below

No I'm afraid not. That only works if your 4.4 or lower. As of 4.4.2 it doesn't work anymore.
And you can not downgrade without a great risk of bricking.
Well then we have to wait a new exploit that allows to root.
Thanks for your answer!

Thank you Darth. I gummed up my retail Moto X, and now it's shiny and new again!!!
question about rooting Sprint Moto X running 4.4.4
I've got a Sprint Motorola X running 4.4.4 with a previously unlocked bootloader from having rooted it on 4.2.2 way back when. I lost root with the update but kept the unlocked bootloader. Will the Moto X Toolkit work for me?
Return to Stock not downloading files
When I try to do Return to Stock, then choose my carrier (Verizon), then choose to download and install any of the stock images, I get a 404 error when trying to download the stock .zip file.
Pasting the address (I cannot past it here, but it links to the VZW_XT1060_4.4.4-KXA21.12-L1.26_CFC_1FF.xml.zip file on droid-developers.org) into a web browser also gives me the same File Not Found error.
Has the file moved or is something else going wrong?
HOW CAN I ROOT MY MOTO X 1st GEN RUNNING 5.0.2 ?
I was successfully rooted, unlocked bootloade my moto x and was installed cm12 nightly with CWM recovery and flashe superSu zip file throogh recovery. also enabled root access for apps and adb in developers option. first time my moto x had root access but on flashing next updated nightlies of cm12 through CMW (not cmupdater) i was lost my root access even flashing same zip fileand enabling root acess in DEV opt. and in superSu app they show subinary is not installed. popup window for installing through normal way shows failed to download subinary. anyone knows plzz help me.
thanx in advance..

I haven't looked at the toolkit in some time, if there isn't a menu option to "Root with unlocked bootloader" then there should be an option to flash TWRP Recovery (since the release notes for Toolkit 1.4.4 says "Updated TWRP to 2.8.1.0")
Once you've successfully flashed TWRP, reboot the phone into it, it should ask if you want too root.
Other option is to not use the toolkit and see -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...-instructions-unlocking-t2649738/post54796193

Try the file factory link and find the firmware for your model and Android version.... Don't downgrade.... Then you can flash the files individually.
See the returning to stock section in this guide,

Alright, I was reading through that, and it looks as if I can flash 4.4.4 without unrooting or anything like that (right now I'm on 4.4.2), because the firmware is available on file factory. Is there any prerequisites I need to take before flashing? I have an unlocked bootloader if that means anything in this situation....
return to stock with nandroid backup
I am currently using cm12 5.0.2 rom on my sprint moto x . I have a nandroid backup with stock 4.4.4 rom. my question is can I restore the nandroid backup without any problem?
Also I have to unroot and then lock the bootloader kindly tell me how to do that please.
Help Updating Verizon Moto X Developer Edition
All,
I have the Verizon Moto X Developer Edition. I originally bought it since I chose to pay full price, to maintain my unlimited Data. I also like rooting my device for certain operations, and I was willing to pay a little extra for the warranty to cover this activity.
I unlocked my bootloader and I rooted my device. I originally backed up my system, but never used TWRP, since I was happy with the mostly stock debloated ROM. I did use the Root to enable free Native WiFi hotspot.
Since the root and unlock, I have not received any system updates, and I'm stuck at Android 4.4. I have a Nexus 7 (2013) tablet, and I enjoy many of the newer features of Android.
I have seen Droid-life posts that the Moto X mainstream version is on 4.4.4.
Can anyone explain how to update my Developer Edition to 4.4.4 or later while maintaining Root and my Hotspot workaround? To be honest, I stopped tracking it, and don't even know what the latest version is for the mainstream Gen 1 Moto X. I have read some reports that show (Non-Developer versions) updating to the latest ROM wipes the Root, and they cannot get it back. And I am also under the impression that the mainstream image update is not compatible with my phone.
I used to tinker with several different ROMs all the time with my previous two phones, but I'm a little rusty. It has been 18 months since I bothered, as most of the functionality I need is reliable at this point. Yes, I realize that implies I probably don't need to tinker, but I'm considering it, pending the above information.
The one critical requirement is that I do use my phone as the hotspot, and enabling on my current plan required root access, or no-root, and an additional $30/month. I kind of like that feature. I used this method.

Hi buddy. I just wanna thank you cuz I was looking for the logo and I couldn't find it until I saw ur post.
I know my next question does not belong to the original quote (I'm so sorry for asking you that). I updated my xt1095 to lollipop and it was soak test, it had bugs and I decided to get kit kat back. So I unlocked my bootloader cuz I had to and I flashed stock factory image (from Motorola). My question is, if I receive OTA (lollipop) can I update or not? 'Cause I don't wanna have a beautiful brick

The answer to this question seems to be yes, but I'm not sure anyone is entirely certain. I know the OTA process worked for me the first time before factory images were available and I had a few things tweaked with my system. Likely what will happen is that your logo.bin will just be rewritten in the upgrade. However, the stock logo.bin has been included in the factory restore process, so if and when the OTA comes out you could always go into fastboot and fastboot flash the original logo.bin contained within the restore images if you are having issues
Thanks

I don't flash any custom recovery, just unlocked bootloader and flashed marshmallow 6.0 stock rom from another variant like xt1092 and then flashed this logo and everything is good.

XT1068 downgrade to 4.4.4 fail
Dear all,
I'm new to xda and to ROM tweaking and changing, but I am a developer and I know Linux very well.
I'm trying to restore the factory 4.4.4 ROM on my XT1068 because I can't live with Lollipop even if I tried for weeks.
The factory images are posted in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/orig-development/original-motorola-firmware-collection-t3153533 and I followed the instructions there and other instructions as well with no success so far.
What I tried, after rooting the phone and unlocking the bootloader has been:
- flashing according to http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/restore-to-stock-t2873657 using fastboot commandline from my laptop
- trying to install with TWRP
Attempts with fastboot commands were a total failure and only lead me to bricking the system multiple times. Apparently the signature is not accepted so some of the fastboot flash steps miserably fail and brick the system.
Attempts with TWRP to install or wipe and install (also disabling the signature check otherwise it gets stopped by that) bring nowhere, with TWRP just telling that there was an error flashing right after checking the md5sum. By the way: there was no md5sum on the files in the original thread, so I created my own one (with the risk of having wrong md5 if the download was corrupted).
After hours spent on this the only thing I think I figured out is that lollipop bootloader is a nightmare and prevents me from installing 4.4.4. I can't figure out how you guys managed to install without complaints the 4.4.4 images. BTW: the 5.0 image I had on the smartphone was the RETGB one and it was bought over amazon, originally shipped with 4.4.4
Luckily I have a screenshot of the stock indian android 4.4.4 rom. The screenshot show the build: KXB21.85-23
Download it if you want to revert back to stock Android 4.4.4
try easy installer for 4.4.4 in my signature - MUST have UNLOCKED boot loader via motorolla website

firmware 4.4.4 A/B or C will work on your phone but if you want .23 it's 'B'

[Q] XT1053 TMO possible brick - help please

Hi
Unlocked bootloader, rooted. I'd had some issues with my phone and thought it was a smart idea to do a full wipe and start completely from scratch. I'd done this before and had not had issues. This time round, not to much.
The link to the factory images on droid developers seems down to me. I wasn't 100% sure which version below I should be requesting from the motorola site?
When i tried to install what I thought was a good ROM, it kept saying 'unable to mount /cache /system' and other similar errors. This was when flashing in fastboot. i also tried RSDLite but it came up with an error 'rsd lite failed flashing process unknown fastboot command'.
My questions are:
1. Which version is the correct one for my first gen moto X TMobile edition?
2. When I get the correct version, will the above errors go away or is there some other issue?
Thanks in advance. I've tried to include as much detail as possible.

You can use all of the above IF your device is XT1053 (Developer Edition). The first one is for Lollipop 5.1. 2nd, 3rd and 4th is for Kitkat with different version. The last one is JellyBean (Androind version 4.2.2). The choice is yours.

Thank you. I don't have developers but I read that its OK to use this on a non-dev edition. As they don't post images for non-dev editions that might be my only choice. I tried one here but the errors I mentioned came up TMO_RETAIL_XT1053_4.4-13.11.1Q2.X-69-3_MR2_CFC
Do you think the errors I saw are related to installing the wrong version or something else?

It could be wrong version or the file you used. Follow the steps from below link.
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/recovery-images
I followed the steps from the link to the letter. I still got the same errors, and when I reboot it still just gets stuck at the 'warning bootloader' white and red screen, and never gets into the boot sequence for Android.
I tried both the 4.4 and the 5.1 GSM versions, and neither worked.
I pasted the errors I a seeing in the hope that someone can help

What is your bootloader version? Did you type "fastboot.exe flash partition gpt.bin" or "fastboot flash partition gpt.bin" in command?

I typed it like it said on the motorola site:
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
I'm not sure where it lists the bootloader version, but here is a pic of the screen:

If that's happened, is there any way to bring it back to life? I read over this which seemed a little extreme, but may be my only option? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60224688&postcount=415
I can still get into fastboot OK, as well as installing TWRP.

All the SBF files listed in OP are for Dev Edition and TMO. I used 5.1 for my XT1053. If you can go to fastboot and install TWRP, you haven't bricked yet. Tell me:
1) Which version were you in BEFORE trying the fastboot?
2) Which SBF file version did you try to flash using fastboot?
3) What is your Bootloader version. When you press Power + Vol Down and go to BL screen with Recovery etc options listed, check the no. at the top. It should be something like 30.BE (BE is the latest. you can have different version).
4) DO NOT use fastboot. You need to use 'mfastboot' for large system files. Search for 'mfastboot' in XDA. When you tried the fastboot method, did you get any errors especially with the system.img file?
Thanks, responses below

No wait. Do NOT try to downgrade. Important to know what is your BL version. Check @KidJoe signature. He has a link about dangers of downgrading.

BL version 30.B4
So your BL is of 4.4.2.. I would try mfastboot of 4.4.4 .. Read the links given in KidJoe signature and get a thorough idea of what you are doing before proceeding.

Good news! OMG I nearly cried when I saw the blue Motorola logo appear!!!
Bad news! But ugh I now have the dreaded 'wifi switch won't go on' issue. This is actually one of the reasons I formatted it in the first place! So i can't get it set up at all. Tried a reboot and the same issue.
Should I try a newer ROM (such as 5.1) and see if that fixes the issue? I hope this doesn't cause bootloader issues..! I'm so over being on the fastboot screen
Panic ye not. A cache clear in bootloader seems (for the moment) to have fixed the wifi issue.
Cool. So you are on 4.4.4 now? I didn't have any WiFi issues and don't know about that. Maybe you will find something on XDA.
And yeah you can use the 5.1 SBF file to upgrade. Your BL will be upgraded to 3.0BE after which you can't downgrade the BL. Aren't you getting any OTA updates asking you to install 5.1?

Thanks, yes. I'm not seeing any OTA updates to go to 5.1, which is weird. I don't yet have the TMo sim card installed, perhaps that's the reason? I'm adding a line so need to pick it up today. Perhaps it does some OTA check with the network before pushing it, to make sure its the right version. I'd prefer the OTA upgrade of course
Thanks again, I did the thanks button things. :good::good:
I read somewhere (not XDA) one person got OTA without having a sim card. Anyway, if you want to go to 5.1, I would say SBF method is the best. BTW, 5.1 hasn't been kind to me. I have a thread wherein I have posted the issue about Android optimizing all my apps on every reboot taking the boot time to 10-15 mins. Many ppl r having this issue. So it's up to you if you want to upgrade. And thanks

Thanks again Hitdroid. I'll see if the OTA takes once I get the SIM, else go to SBF method.
