[Q] Unlock bootloader : Waranty Void | reLock bootloader = ?? - LG G Watch R

Hello I just updated my wearable to 5.0.1 but I didn't know that it voids waranty, then I locked it (the bootloader)....
Will LG be able to see what I did ?
Because I know that on some android phone you need something called "JIZ" (?) which to erases data about that stuff.
BTW I have a dead pixel .... That's the problem. :/ I am also running a dead pixel app hoping that it will disappear, I got several choices for timing, I am currently on 0.1 , but isn't 0.02 or 0.05 more efficiency ? or is it bad ?

There has not been any verification about unlock flags or counts. We currently only know that it is capable of being relocked with the appearance of the original locked state. I know several of my phones in the past would set a visible tampered flag that would not easily go away. The current theory is that this device acts like the Nexus devices in both appearance and flagging. It only displays unlocking while it is unlocked.

In the EU, unlocking bootloader has absolutely no impact on warranty.
In other countries, you need to read the warranty conditions, but I don't think you will automatically lose the warranty either.
Some companies warn against unlocking (Samsung) but usually if the technician is sane, it gets repair under warranty either way.

Can this unlock the boot loader of devices already on 5..0.1 since the bootloader may be upgraded

Is there an option to lock the bootloader again after unlock?? for warranty things
8don't know but I don't think it will work cause of custom boot image.
I don't know. I have flashed the v20a (leak version) and unlock its bootloader, then rollback to official v10e, and then flash the official v20a and the bootloader is already unlocked. I think its been unlock forever maybe????

Supposedly, you can flash a v10x firmware and it'll show as locked again, if I'm not mistaken. Although if they update your firmware back to a v20x, as they probably will, it will show as unlocked, and they might have a way to know when/how it was unlocked, and claim you had it unlocked before.
My advice (and personal intention) is, unless you're a developer, do not unlock the bootloader unless you're willing to risk voiding your warranty.
Although I'd be quite curious to know if they'd have the guts to invoke the unlocked bootloader for someone that goes in with stuff like dust between the screen and the Gorilla glass, or hardware failure of some sort.

AFAIK when you unlocking bootloader you actually write some data to a special memory called fuse. This can be done only once. Therefore it is not possible to be locked again. But it is possible to ruin the the fuse if you do something wrong and you lose forever possibility to unlock.
Well I was on leak v20a and unlock it and flashed cwm, then i flashed Official v20a .dz with lgflashtool and bootloader got locked again. I needed to unlock it again. You can try that.

I flashed between 20a leak , official 20a and 20b, and not once i had my bootloader relock by itself
With lgflashtool or kdz? Well I dont have any proof of it becouse I didnt expected it would happen. Anyway I flashed with LGflashtool without battery and sim and with 910kohm cable.
Edit: this will clear all your data and format internal sd

i flashed atleast once with lgflashtool (screwed something up after deleting some bloatware + installing wrong unsecure img or something, all in all i couldnt enter S/W at all), and several times with kdz (between 20a leak and other 20x's).
and all troughout this bootloader stayed unlocked (i am on eur-xxx, so i unlocked my bootloader the day the method was found, if i recall correctly)
It may be an isolated case. You never know with LG But i am sure it was locked again, even flashed cwm thinging it stayed unlocked then gave me security error when I tried to boot recovery. So i unlock it again. Mine is also eur-xxx.

Bootloader can't be relocked. When you flash kdz with all usual methods available for p880 you also flash secured bootloader and system recovery too. So you must flash these two again from adb every time you flash new kdz. Security error may appear if you don't flash unsecured BL before CWM.
Any way regarding warranty I don't think that LG service will bother to check bootloader state if device is bricked or something.
It can be relocked since mine was in fact relocked. It just that we need to find way. Unsecure boot.img has nothing to do with unlocking bootloader or properly running recovery. It just give you root access from adb. It is property in ramdisk in default.prop ro.secure=0. And they will sure check bootloader unlock status, they even developed Windows app for root checking.

I'm saying that secured bootloader won't load unsigned recovery. So maybe thats reason why you got security error. Anyway if you think unlocking is reversible maybe its best way to ask LG. Their FOSS section replied for unlocking process, maybe they answer you.

If the device is bricked, they'll need to find the problem before they solve it. They'll surely run diagnostics on it, and a phone diagnostic tool that doesn't diagnose something as basic as "has someone been messing with the bootloader?" isn't that good of a diagnostic tool at all..
So yeah, I'm pretty sure they'll check it. And even if I weren't, some LG support centers (the portuguese one being one of them) have mentioned that unlocking the bootloader will void your warranty, and the warranty itself mentions it (by saying any change to the provided hardware and software, which the bootloader is a part of, will void the warranty). So, at the very least, we should leave it as a warning to the community that their warranty might be voided when unlocking the bootloader and/or rooting their phone.

My point is that it is useless to try relock your phone.
I agree with you completely in everything you said about warranty. I think there should be warning about warranty. Also there still no need to unlock while we waiting for custom rom (CM).
Anyway I'm more than year on this forum and I never saw someone refused by LG service because their device is modded somehow.

Yes, but Asus's policy wherever that person bought the Nexus 7 might be different that the policy for LG in our respective countries...
I borrow some text from a blog :
This is a joint blog post written together with Carlo Piana with the goal to disband some popular FUD that you lose your warranty if you flash or root your device.
Does rooting your device (e.g. an Android phone) and replacing its operating system with something else void your statutory warranty, if you are a consumer?
In short:
No.Just the fact that you modified or changed the software of your device, is not a sufficient reason to void your statutory warranty. As long as you have bought the device as a consumer in the European Union.

It clearly states that not only rooting but also flashing your device with a custom rom , can't be held responsible for the defect at a device.
A friend of mine had a faulty screen on his galaxy nexus and gave his device rooted , of course the store who sold the phone refused to repair it , but after being aware of this directive and to avoid further legal actions from the buyer's side, they agreed to repair the phone at no cost.
I relate this case to the thread for the guarantee part since an unlocked bootloader is needed to flash custom stuff to it and is part of the software imho.

It's nice to know that directive. People speak of them having to fulfill the warranty if the root/unlocking isn't directly linked to the problem, but this gives us something to use in case they don't do it voluntarily.
Although, keep in mind that any problem you cause due to your rooting (e.g. deleting system files, freezing the wrong apps, etc.) or bootloader-unlocking (e.g. deleting your bootloader, incorrectly installing a ROM/kernel, etc.) will probably not be covered by warranty, as it was your action that caused the error.

UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER : What i'm going to lose.

Guys, i've been using many mainstream brands like HTC, Sony, Samsung, etc but im newb to Huawei.
For Sony device, im going to lose DRM keys for good after unlocking BL (not to mention backup TA) and many other features & functions like screen mirroring & camera quality degrade.
For Samsung, the well known Knox.
Im about to unlock my P9Plus but by reading this, quoted frm Huawei bootloader unlocking page, im abit scared of losing Leica image processing for instance.
4.Some functions will no longer work after you unlock the bootloader. For example, you will no longer be able to use Digital Rights Management (DRM) keys and digital content that you have purchased. Upgrading software using Firmware Over-The-Air (FOTA) or a microSD card may fail or your device may not function properly after upgrading.

Can anyone shed some lights?
I asked this before i unlocked my bootloader, as my previous phone was also a Sony.
I was told nothing would be lost, and from what i can tell, the phone still seems the same as it was out of box.
If you do notice anything, please let me know as well.
I haven't received any OTA update, but i can always download and update via SD-Card if i require.
Haven't tried playing any videos on the phone, besides ones that I've taken myself, but nothing i have contains DRM protection so I don't see any issues there anyway.
This is my 3rd Huawei Device after the P8 & Mate 8.
On all the devices I didn't notice any changes after unlocking.
how about screen mirroring & netflix/iflix HD. if im not mistaken netflix wont play HD movies if DRM is absent on device.
Hi, i wan't to temporary unlock BL only to de-brand my P9+. So i'll relock it after the operations. In that scenario, what happens to my warranty? If now I check the warranty status with Huawei services, i receive a message that the phone i regularly under warrenty until xx/xx/xxxx. If i unlock BL that message remains or will change in something as "NO WARRANTY..."

If you somehow already have the bootloader unlock code (e.g. from DCUnlocker), then the warranty displayed on the website will not void, at least on my Singapore's VIE-L29C636. But I am not sure through if you get the unlock code via the official EMUI website. Your bootloader's state will become "unlocked", and if you do relock your bootloader, it will show "relocked" instead of "locked". Read my post here to revert it back to "locked" state.

Relocking bootloader and warranty.

I got my H9L 2 months back and had rooted it (and unlockedd bootloader). Im having a big battery issue battery drains too fast. I want to get it to service centre as waranty is not over.
I've read posts saying if I relock bootloader I'll get waranty back but some says I won't get back warranty even if I relock bootloader.
Can someone sort this out please
IF you've unlocked the bootloader and rooted the device you have no warranty in the eyes of the manufacturer, it states this in the terms and conditions when you get your bootloader code from them.
See when you unlock the bootloader you get a warning screen upon booting the device and relocking the bootloader will not get rid of that warning.
However have you tried to see if the battery issue is intact an software issue. I.e have you wiped caches, checked if an app such as Google assistant WhatsApp Facebook is running in the background. Do you have the same issue when booting android into safe mode????

That's strange. I've relocked it today after flashing compete stock using HuRupdater tool.
I'm not having the warning screen I had earlier when my bootloader was unlocked.
So does that mean I'll be able to claim my waranty now?
And I've tried different ROMs the issue persists.
If they ask if I've unlocked the bootloader(since I've given my product number they might know) I'll just tell that I took the unlock code just in case, as they were shutting it down and that I haven't used it. Well at least that's the plan
So will they know that I've unlocked it earlier if there is no warning screen? As I've told I have complete stock firmware including kernal and recovery like @Fredin_ told.
Please reply fast.
If your no longer showing that Warning message after going back to stock then you can try and claim warranty if you wish, however they might have other ways to finding out if the bootloader has been unlocked.
So put your claim in and see what they do, they will either honor the Warranty or not Honor the Warranty and give you a quote for the work.
Personally if i unlock my bootloader and root it i'd just put up with the issue as i fully knew that the warranty went when i unlocked the device.
But i will leave it upto you how you go about it.

Has anyone returned their phone after locking the bootloader?

Hello there, I was just wondering if anyone returned their Asus Rog Phone 2 for repair or simply returned it after relocking the bootloader.
On XDA there is a great guide on locking the bootloader here https://forum.xda-developers.com/rog-phone-2/how-to/guide-convert-cn-to-ww-rom-26-08-t3961042http://
So would be interesting to see if locking the bootloader is all we need to peacefully rma the phone or does asus have some other sneaky peaky something going on to detect if we ever rooted.
I am perfectly happy with my phone its just some people on my youtube channel were asking if its safe to return after relocking I just said I haven't heard of anyone doing so, so not 100% sure.

Most Android devices have a record in system chip. Once bootloader has been unlocked it will change status from 0 to 1 and even if you relock the device it will still stay as 1. Since you triggered the log thingy. So Asus techs will still be able to find out that bootloader has been touched. For example on Samsung devices they use something called a KNOX chip and when you unlock bootloader on a Samsung S9 or s10 the Knox chip will break and no longer work and status will say that Knox chip has been triggered with 0 to 1. That's how Samsung finds out if you have unlocked your bootloader on their devices. So Asus have probably a way aswell on their end.
You can return the device for repair but repair service will reject warranty repair and will put a price how much it will cost you to repair the device. Since they will see bootloader has been touched. So then warranty is voided.
I returned my 1st one because of no volte. Bl was unlocked, relocked using asus's app before the tool here was available. No issues, got a full refund.
I doubt they wouldn't repair it under warranty, unless it was actually caused by a bad flash, or something.

What Asus app did you use to relock the bootloader? I thought the only way to relock is to use a fastboot command. Asus has an apk for unlocking the phone, haven't heard of one for relocking.

Question Just bought this - Question regarding unlocking & root

I just bought this phone. It's actually quite nice and better than I expected. Paid 475€ for it brand new in a store here in Italy. I'm coming from the good old XZ1 Compact, aka the best phone ever made. This seems to be a big (too big, tfw no phone under 5.5) improvement over it.
That being said, I was wondering how does Asus react to their phones being unlocked. I come from Sony which does not like unlocking, in fact on the XZ1 and XZ2, unlocking was permanent and you lost drm keys and stock features fOrEveR. How is it on this one? Does it void the warranty forever? Do you lose stock features after unlocking? Can you relock the bootloader and go back to full stock eventually?
I googled and searched all over but I find conflicting and contraddicting informations about this, on top of the usual ****ty websites with ai generated copypaste guides.
Thanks in advance.

I don't know if you can relock the phone but I doubt it.
You can reinstall the Original ASUS Firmware and it still works like before. You can also install the updates for the original OS manually (I did not test if OTA still works)

To add to bnsmb's response,
When the phone is unlocked, some apps will not work, like google pay for example, but the bootloader can be relocked with one fastboot command and you will get all features back (except OTA updates from the settings, you will have to update manually)
(It is not recommended to relock the bootloader when not on the Stock Asus ROM)
To relock, simply type these two commands
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot oem asus-csc_lk
reboot
The phone will prompt you to do a factory reset when booting

Yes, I have tried it once, but some people reported it does not work depending on the version, I tried on Android 12 and it worked the first time (and on android 11 but that was the first unlock a while ago)
Thank you for the info! I can't find the official manual or faq though, even from the link bnsmb provided :\
That's why I asked here in the first place. From what I can tell after looking through this info, they will know you have unlocked from the imei, considering their unlock tool talks to the mothership before doing the deed. It is still unclear if they will respect the warranty period even after unlocking. I don't care about asking them for support on an unlocked phone, I just want to make sure it will get repaired or replaced for free (in terms of money and hassle) if I get a defect down the line that is unrelated to the unlock, such as a hardwre failure or assembly defect.
Anyway, it seems the only way to shed light on this mystery is to ask Asus themselves. I will report back as soon as they respond to my questions.
Warranty with unlocked bootloader
The warning text of the unlock app links you to the Warranty Policy for ASUS Phones, where the relevant part reads:
6. Exclusions from this limited Warranty Service
[...]
(m) Unusability or damage to hardware of the product caused by installing and using any kind of the Unlock Device App, which is a utility that will unlock your product’s boot loader but will render the warranty null and void.

So yes as is usual, they will try to use "you having unlocked your bootloader" as an excuse to not repair their broken phones under warranty.
But, depending on your local consumer protection laws, there is a good chance this is actually illegal. In the EU for example, during the 2 years of required warranty THEY have to prove YOU that the defect was ACTUALLY CAUSED by you messing with the phone's software - which generally speaking they can't because it wasn't.
If you haven't seen it i recommend this thread for some details of people who have actually been in that situation - from what i saw after a quick glance through, 3 out of 3 people there got their unlocked&rooted phones replaced under warranty in the end, even it it took some effort to convince the support...

The linked thread does tell that one person was successful with the ASUS support, "all other" unfortunately not, see e.g. post #6.

Reading posts #31 and #38 i am pretty sure the person from post #6 did not have to play in the end as well. I also can't see anyone else in there who reported they tried to get unlocked phone replaced and didn't
Ups my fault, I have not seen the posts after #20 ... So it seems the warranty (given by law) is not void but the guarantee is (given by the company).
Anyway, in the meantime, Asus replied to me saying that if you unlock you lose your entire warranty no matter what. I reiterated, asking if I will also lose my right to a free repair for issues totally unrelated to the unlock, and they said yes, you will lose every right to repair.
So that is the official stance!
Too bad, I'm still in the return period so I might just get rid of it and hunt for a Pixel 5. Kind of sad though, the phone performed pretty well for me so far. But I need muh root and eventually LineageOS...
