[Q] Stamina Mode = Buggy? - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

a few things i've noticed with Stamina Mode enabled, wondered if anyone else has:
1. on occasion, after tap2wake, the theme/wallpaper will not load. the background on the lock screen and home screen is black. the only remedy i've found for this is to wait: if you turn off the screen and wake it immediately, it will stay black. if i wait 20-30 seconds, it's back to normal. only happened with SM on.
2. even with Gmail whitelisted, and notifications for Gmail ON -- i still won't get notifications. mail will be waiting for me in the app, but nothing to tell me that it's arrived.
3. Hangouts. same thing: whitelisted, no notifications. i'll open the app to find a bunch of messages that i missed.
am i missing something in my set-up?

following up, in case anyone has similar issues.
after a reboot, issues 2 and 3 have been resolved -- notifications for my white listed apps started to work right away. and issue 1 hasn't occurred again (yet).
Stamina Mode has been impressive so far. it's been two nights in a row where i haven't had to charge it. have 30% juice left, will probably plug it in during my workday.

For you have not indicated the FW version you're running on now, would suggest two things over here:
1.) Update to the latest FW (e.g. x.77) since that may solve the issue. Get it from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/firmware-23-0-1-5-77-rolling-xperia-z3-t2969791
2.) Use the search function and join one of the many threads that already exist on that topic.

More frequent checks for new emails and sms

I have an AT&T tilt with stock ROM and everything. I am using ifonz0.9.9. I was just wondering if there is any way to make my phone check for new emails and sms more frequently. My phone is linked to my gmail account. I was sending myself some test emails and i was getting them very quickly. But each time i would have to open my messages folder and then click on menu>send/receive, in order to update my inbox. Then i exited out to the home screen, sent another email and decided to just leave y phone alone. Well then about an hour or 2 later i finally get a notification sound and when i wake my phone up, there was a little red bubble with the #1 in it letting me know that i have a new message. So this leads me to believe that my phone must only check for new messages on its own like once every hour or something like that. Is there anyway to make it check more often. And on another note, if someone sends a SMS i do get a notification sound and a little window pops up saying "received new SMS" or something like that and then goes away after 5 seconds. Now this is fine, but once that message goes away it doesnt put a little red bubble notification on the icon. So if I wasnt near my phone and then came back later and just glanced at my screen I would have no way to tell if I had a new SMS or not. If someone could shed some light on this subject I would really appreciate. This was my last resort because i couldnt find anything On the main board or in the stickies or anything. So thank you in advance if you can help me out.
When i set my email up, one of the very last options was how often to check, i manually set mine to 1 hour, i think it was on check every 2, just checked on mine.
Email inbox > Menu > Tools > Options > clicked my email (yours would be gmail) >Edit Account Setup > Press Next 5 times until you see Automatic Send/Receive:, then set it to whatever you want, 5, 10, 15 minutes > Next > Finish
Hope that helps.
Email notification
This is only mildly related, but I want my new email notification to show the sender and/or subject line and not just "You have ## new email messages..."
I can't find any notification settings that would adjust this. Any suggestions?
The Enter Key is your friend, my friend. Makes it easier for us to read and give you the proper answer.
Menu, Tools, Options, select your account, send/receive schedule, and change your time...if you want faster than every 5 minutes youll need to go with push email.
Just know that each time you check your email a little bit of battery gets eaten up as well. So there is a bit of a trade off.
Keep in mind that if its asleep, and you are using wifi only, you will get no checking until you wake it up.
I wish I could find a fix for that..

I don't know for sure since I use my 3g for everything, but wouldn't disabling that feature in kaisertweak allow it to check while the screen is off?
You can set the tweak to leave WiFi on when the device is on standby. But you'll have your battery empty in 4-5 hours doing that.
Regarding auto check e-mail, for me this was waking up the device each time it wanted to check. So the screen will turn on, which means that for it to turn off automatically it will wait for the timeout to occur. So let's say you set it to check email every 5 mins, and set a power off timeout of 3 mins, the device will turn on to check mail, turn off after 3 minutes then 2 minutes later turn on again. etc.
Personally I found that with the device in my pocket as the screen would always get touched the device would actually never turn off (besides clicking random things) when auto email check was active. So, goodbye battery again. I ended turning off email autocheck.
That last point might get solved by using S2U2 and telling it to turn screen off after like 10 secs as it ignores screen presses at locations other than the slider, but I don't like that personally.
Yeah this is what I figured...I have used the S2U2 method as well. In regard to the battery drain, more than likely one would leave wifi on while stationary because having it on in your pocket while say driving around would lose the wifi anyway. So one "could" plug it into the wall and leave it alone.

I have a "fair use" internet abbo on my tytn. But i also have my wifi on 24/7 because it is faster when i'm at home or at school.
For receiving my e-mail i use http://live.mail2web.com/. There you can make a FREE PUSH MAIL account. You can send your gmail and other e-mail accounts (if you have them) to your mail2web account. And then it is automaticly pushed to your tytn.
You will receive an e-mail send to gmail within a couple of minutes and mostly within a minute.

Can can I prevent my screen from waking up?

It wakes up everytime I get a text message and sometimes seems to wake up for no reason. This didn't always happen but I can't find and option to disable this.
Anyone know what I can do about it?
i dont think so it might be better to leave it alone.

On my phone, every time I receive a text message, the buttons light up for about half a second then starts to vibrate and play the ringtone. It's been doing that since the whole CnD thing and I've just ignored it since it didn't seem to be causing any issues.
You could go into the SMS app and shut off notifications from there. Might make a nice, powersaving script.
I don't know why the phone powers up without a notification. I have found I can't turn on my Wifi when I turn on Background data and it's been off for quite a while (still have autosync off). My data connection is showing heavy useage. The big G is watching us all. It makes me wonder if something is coming in to your phone from somewhere to wake it.
If it's killing you, you could try living without apps for a day you suspect might be doing it, or just schedule a kill at intervals if you can't uninstall it.
You could go into settings and change the screen timeout to 15 Sec so if it does come on, it wont stay on long..

Usage of apps like NotifyX and Floating Toucher wakes screen without reason

Hi!
I've trying to figure out why apps like Active Notifications and Floating Touched doesn't work the way it should.
I'm running stock and I'm rooted.
Floating Tougher has an option to lock screen when button is pressed on screen. However when this button is pressed the screen goes dark and flickers and then turns on again. At first I thought there was a problem with the app do I didn't think much about it.
NotifyX and Active Notifications etc. doesn't work either. When I lock my screen there's a brief moment, 6-7 seconds, under this moment the screen stays lock but then turns on to show the notification screen by the app.
I've uninstalled most of my downloaded apps but the problem still persists. I've checked wakelocks but couldn't find anything worth checking out.
Anybody else with the same problem or maybe even a solution?
Thanks!

Notification sound cut off, now screen won't turn on

Since updating to marshmallow, my longer notification sounds, especially Calendar Snooze, are cut off.
I read somewhere about an app setting to allow it to turn the screen on as a fix. I did that but now I can't remember what app I made the change in or where I read that suggestion. I thought it might have been Light Flow, but I can't find it in there.
Now my power button fails to wake up the screen the majority of the time. Sometimes the lock screen will flash for a fraction of a second and go black again. Usually it takes 6-10 tries before the screen finally stays on so I can use my phone.
Since the wake up problem started when I tried to fix the notification sound, I'm pretty sure they're related. Any ideas?

if youre using lightflow id suggest wiping the data in it and resetting your notification settings. it does tend to override the system so i can see that screwing with the duration of the notification, and starting fresh usually solves most problems
i have mine set to wake the screen for SMS but not MMS. it creates similar problems with the screen
Thanks for the info. I tried just toggling the screen on settings on and back off for all of the Light Flow apps, and it seems to have fixed my screen turn on problem, at least for now.

I'm having the same notification sound cut short problem, I have a nexus 7 wifi 2013 model running Mohamed rom v2.1
Whenever anyone calls me on google hangouts, the ring only lasts for a second before its cut off, this doesn't happen if the front cover is open, it happens only when its closed.
I didn't have this problem on kitkat, but on MM this problem started from day 1.
I don't see any light flow option anywhere.
Any suggestions to fix this will be very appreciated.
Thanks.

LightFlow fixed my screen problems, but it was just a coincidence that I installed Marshmallow and my sounds got cut off around the same time. I'm still looking for a solution to that issue. Similar to you, if my screen is on, the notification sounds work correctly. If the screen is off, they get cut off.

Lock screen opens notifications on it own

Hi everybody, I've been having a hideous issue with my Note 8 ever since it updated to Android Oreo. So, before when I turned my phone on, either by pressing the home button on the screen or by using the button on the side, I could see the notifications and I could view the whole preview by sliding them down, touch them and open them, erase them or leave them where they where. Now as soon as I use either one of this buttons, the phone automatically selects one of those notifications and pops up the screen with the sign password and iris recognize without giving me the chance of seeing the notifications. If I go back without using the password, the notification it wanted to open gets deleted. It basically takes away the possibility to check the notifications. The problem gets worse when I'm at home because I have the smartlock enabled, so (when and if it works) it opens up any notifications by itself. Sometimes, it's actually rare but it happened a few times already, it does everything on its own. It's on my bed far from me, I'm not even looking at it, a notification arrives, it turns on by itself and asks for my password to open the notification. What do you think? I hope someone has an answer and I hope i didn't create a new thread on an issue already discussed about, but I couldn't find anything similar
