[Q] Ambient Display as Daydream? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got the Aukey Luna Qi charger. While it has first party app to show a clock or photos while charging, I would really like the Ambient Display to show while charging. Is there some way to set this up?

It should show up when you get a notification. ... or are you asking for a "daydream" that looks the same as ambient display?

Right, the Ambient Display B&W screen as a Daydream that would show the clock and notifications and do the smooth, native interaction with the notifications.

There's nothing built in... Perhaps someone will write an app for it.

[Q] Is it possible to modify the color used in Ambient Display?

Would modifying one of the .xml strings to, say...33b5e5 make it possible to change the Ambient Display font to Holo Blue or any other hex color? I would really love to see this happen, or even do it myself under the right guidance. Thanks for any help or suggestions in advance.
@dankoman is this possible with your coloured ambient display commits in layers or is that just background?

that was for 5.0. google changed everything around on 5.1 and the colored ambient display commits are no longer current.
it's not as simple as you think though. in ambient display, the notification items are grayscaled first (in java) to save on processing power and battery, so even if you colored the text, it wouldn't matter.

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure if you have experience with Moto Display, but do you know if the same is true for Moto Display? It seems their proprietary implementation of this uses images in the MotoDisplay.apk.

Best AOD (even better then Samsung)

Hi to all,
Huawei have very bad AOD, it doesn't have any information only time. I found this AOD that have so much settings and very, very, useful.
- AOD (time, calendar, weather),
- Notification (when you get messages on som application like Viber it shows Viber icon, you can touch icon and read message on AOD without unlock it),
- Blacklist app - app you dont want to show on AOD,
- Duble tap to wake, swipe up for camera and etc...,
- Edge lights for notifications,
- Background for wallpaper,
- Adaptive mod,
- Font style,
- Music Controls,
- Automatic move clock,
- And many more settings...
Name of app: Allways on Amoled Edge Light

* I havent test batter drain of this application.
p.s. this is not my application i just found it. All the best, enjoy
Hmm... Looks pretty sweet. I will definitely give it a try. It is odd that the Huawei features are so... thin. I mean, why wouldn't they at least give you the ability to toggle notification icons for just a few common apps?
I tried this and the battery drain is high even with just the digital clock on.
Yeah, I said the same in the other thread. It was using 1% in around 10 - 15 minutes and I hadn't even turned on proximity detection.
I used it for half a day. But he consumes a lot of charge. I do not recommend.
Yeah I noticed my battery draining pretty fast too. However I still think this app is pretty cool and worth it, especially over the crappy native AOD... As my phone still gets through a full day usually.
Though if I think I'm gonna have a day of heavy phone use or I'm travelling or something, I'll just disable it.
I'm using this one, which is very good as well.

I think there's nothing which can be done about battery, whatever app you use it will always drain something.

Can u screenshot your settings please? I can't figure out how to have the AOD come up once I've locked my phone. It never shows.

The app doesn't show the AOD when the display goes off. It shows the AOD when the screen is on and you activate it. I uninstalled it.

Yeh i couldnt get app notifications to work either. I tried everything, besides that it looked really nice. But without notifications it rendered it useless.

How do you make it work with face unlock?? It keeps showing the FPrint icon.

It does if you configure it properly. And yeah, there were problems with notifications showing up on the M20 Pro (and I suppose onother EMUI 9 phones as well), but they have been fixed in the meantime.
Must admit I just use it during the day and when I put my phone on the wireless charging pad...just like all other aod apps, it just consumes too much battery to be taken in consideration for constant use (the dev himself doesn't advise to use it this way either). I guess devs can't do nothing about it, it's just the way it is with aod.

Built in AOD consumes very little power but a third party app version doesn't have elevated system privileges so it's going to eat battery like crazy to keep itself open and running.
It's similar to why built in SMS uses very little power but an app like Facebook Messenger is a notorious battery hog.

Notification light/aod

Im used to the led light on my previous samsung phones. The s10 doesn't have one but people were asking samsung to implement the camera cut out light, others made apps and one that was interesting that was the AOD would activate only when there was a notification to open.
As im looking to switch to the s10, are there news on the implementation of the notification light or new apps? Do the current apps work well?
Thank you!
If you're only looking for an LED notification, Samsung has updated the Edge Lighting + settings within the Good Lock app to create an notification ring to display around the camera cut out. I have it set on my phone and it performs exactly to my liking.

Thanks!
I have read and seen videos on it when it was released but it only worked for a few seconds when the notification showed up and didn't keep "blinking" like the led/until you seen or open the notification. Its still like that right?
I'm not 100% sure about that. I rarely see my notifications right away and generally check my phone when I get back to my desk when at work.
Holey Light on the play store...
I have read that holey lights uses quite a bit of battery, i wanted something that didn't use as much.
There was this AOD app that would only show when there was a notification but i don't know how well it works

Notifications on the AOD?

Coming from a samsung mobile, i was just wondering if there is any way to get notifications like on the samsung mobiles on the AOD screen, instead of the just red tintet clock, and the 2 analogue clocks?
Bump
Go back to Samsung. This phone has no dev work. We will never have a proper aod.
+1, came from Samsung and I miss the options it had for AOD, would also be cool if we have more digital clocks AOD options instead of the red lines garbage we have now
Bump
Have you tried any of the AOD apps in the Play store? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.newgen.alwayson&hl=en_GB

Yes, it's very good and all but the problem with it is that it takes a lot of battery in a very short amount of time, as the screen is "on" all the time in the battery consumption settings.

ambient display / notifications help

Hi there,
I just bought a Mi 9t Pro- and generally I am happy with it. But coming from a Pocophone I really miss the notification LED; and the screen coming on when I got a notification.
The Ambient Display just isn't great, it's too bright and doesn't display notification info reliably - and I don't want an always on screen.
For me I'd like Ambient Display to show ONLY when I have notifications but leave the screen dark when there is none - is there a way to achieve this? Would even buy a 3rd party app.
Thanks in advance
