Did u figure this out? There's no way the phone can b deactivated? Makes no sense. Unless your straight talk month service ran out.
WOW guys
here's the scenario.
i have the at&t s4 i337 with ST (straight talk sim)
my wife has the at&t s5 g900a with ST (straight talk sim)
both rooted stock 4.4.2 and titanium pro BOTH WITH at&t software update, Knox, lookout ALL FROZEN/DISABLED
been having issues with my S4 so I took my ST sim out and put in my wife's S5 to test my sim card.
all of the sudden device management arrows /at&t software update shows up in the bar on my Wifes S5
immediately the s5 became completely disabled to any network capability.
checked apn settingsetc etc. the s5 was COMPLETELY dead to any network.
5 hours on phone back n forth with ST and AT&T they blamed each other for my issue (saying the other was blocking the service)
Come to find out, the S4 ive been using for over a year, that i bought on ebay has a BAD IMEI! (never thought to check)
Bottom line, for some reason when i put the ST sim from my phone (bad imei-s4) into her S5 it triggered some sort of update that shut off network communication on the S5. EVEN THOUGH I HAVE AT&T Software update disabled on the S5!!!!
SOLVED
Unfortunately i am going to have to buy myself a new phone because i cant keep a stolen phone in good conscious, and i went and bought a new ST Sim for wifes phone and transferred to it, now her phone is all back to good.(must have flagged the sim itself)
Moreover, i would like to know, for future reference, HOW/WHY could At&T force an update to shut down network/sim card when AT&t update and knox etc etc was frozen/disabled in Titanium??????
Even MORE, what other apps can i disable or freeze on the S5 to prevent ANY future automatic/forced updating to occur???
Is there a full freezable apps list for the S5 ? Specifically ones for at&t updates?
i mean, i assumed OTA stuff was strickly FW upgrades only (i.e. like 4.3 to 4.4 etc etc)
Freeze the following to stop all updates:
AT&T Software Update.
FWUpgrade.
LocalFOTA.
Samsung Push Service.
Security Policy Updates.

Hey all, I’m having problems with my sim card not working, my Captivate doesn’t recognize it at all. I got this captivate to hold on to from my older brother who is currently serving overseas (not possible for him to use phone) a few months ago. When I got it, I rooted it, sim unlocked it (I have t-mobile), and got to flash roms and have fun with it thanks to you good folks on these forums.
About 2 weeks ago, the speaker was issues that really bothered me(had to keep tapping it in to get It to work) so I decided to send it over to Samsung to fix. The phone was still under warranty, so it cost nothing to fix fortunately. I just got it back yesterday, and since then my t-mobile sim card would not work. I rooted, sim unlocked, and flashed many different roms and still not working. Its as if the phone thinks there is no sim card at all (“No SIM Card Emergency Calls Only”). I also tried this app called Samservmode, and enabled all bands (GSM/WCDMA) to see if it would work; it didn’t.
I was ready to call Samsung again, but when I went over to my friend’s house and tried his att sim card; it worked perfectly and I was able to send texts and make calls. So something must be wrong with my sim card, it works perfectly on my g1 though (my backup phone that was used while Captivate was away). I was able to use the same t-mobile sim for a few months in a row before I sent it to Samsung, isn’t this possible for me to do it again? Any advice on doing so would be much appreciated; thanks.
P.S. My t-mobile sim card is prepaid if that matters, so I don’t use 3g or edge or any data networks.
Also my current setup (if it even helps, I've been flashing between froyo and ginger nonstop trying to fix this issue)
Firmware: 2.2
Baseband: I897UCKB1
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Phone number and network is unknown
Mobile network type: HSDPA
Service state: Out of service
Roaming: Not roaming
Mobile network state: Disconnected
Everything else works pretty fine on this phone (wifi, bluetooth, etc.)
UPDATE: I went back to my friend's place and with his att sim card in, I tried adding a t-mobile APN based on
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744535
Unfortunately this did not resolve the issue. I did this with his att sim card because when there is no sim (or in my case, my tmobile sim) in the phone, you can't access mobile networks in settings.
I am also currently on stock I897UCKH3
UPDATE 2: So I just tried my other friends t-mobile sim card (that is on a plan) and the captivate had service; was able to make calls and text. My prepaid sim card seems to be the culprit here. I don't understand because as I tested my friends sim card on the captivate, I also put my sim card in his iphone 3gs (unlocked) and it worked fine there. Is the captivate on strike against my sim card or something? I'm going to try calling t-mobile tomorrow (doubt they'll help since the captivate isn't their phone) and see if anything can be done. In the meantime if you guys have any advice, I'm all ears.
UPDATE 3 (This is getting kind of annoying): I just got off the phone with both Samsung and T-mobile and both of them don't know what to think. I'm beginning to think this is a special case and this problem only occurred to a very few amount of people. If anyone can help with suggestions I would be very grateful. I'm thinking about going to a t-mobile store today to see what they think, maybe seeing the issue in person would help in their perspective.
Doubt anyone is going to answer or even post, but here goes:
BUMP
I also went back to stock and followed this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881162
with no success.
You try getting a new sim card?
Sent from my I897 using xda premium
Does T-Mobile have any policy of replacing prepaid sim cards? If so, that sounds like your best option. Also, Samsung might have been angry at you cheating their system, and purposefully disabled your sim card. Make sure you take out your sim before sending it back for repair.
Thanks for the reply guys, much appreciated. I decided to just live with it and keep the captivate as a galaxy s wifi if you will for media purposes only like an ipod touch. My g1 will be a phone. Once the nexus prime comes out I will start up a contract and finally experience 4g speeds and w/e else I can get with a contract thats not available on prepaid.
Also I did not send Samsung the phone with the sim card in, idk how they must've known to block it. Thanks again.
My wife sat her old Galaxy phone down at a big event we went to... it's gone. So I was looking for a new phone and found an S4 Active from AT&T for really cheap. I talked to T-Mobile and they assured me we would be able to get everything working easily.
So I bought it. Got it unlocked through AT&T. Plugged in my wifes new sim and boom - we're up and running. I changed the APN stuff - the network is T-Mobile and all settings work. She gets talk, text, text pictures, etc. I can get on the internet etc. Problem is we're in a place that has weak LTE and very good Edge. My Note 3 from T-Mobile gets perfect 4G and switches between that and a couple bars of LTE from time to time.
This phone gets weak LTE but then switches to Edge to get a better connection.
Yes I've tried the guides to get the 4G radio working (galaxys4root.com/galaxy-s4-tutorials/how-to-enable-t-mobile-hspa-aws-bands-on-att-galaxy-s4-sgh-i337sgh-i337 etc etc) and I even tried following a guide in here that has me flash the modem back to MF1 or whatever it is through ODEN - that just hung on "Setup Connection" and never did anything.
Look - I know the S4 Active is beginning to get a bit old but it's still a really nice phone and it works great. It's more than my wife needs but we need it to get 4G where we're located. Is there an updated way to get this done? Root and custom ROM? New way to fix the radio? Trust me I've searched all over and haven't found it so I thought I would ask. Maybe I'm just searching for the wrong thing but I need help as to how to do this now - not from posts 2 years ago.
AT&T Galaxy S4 Active SGH-I537
Android Version 4.4.2
Baseband Version I537UCUCNE3
Kernal Version 3.4.0-987011
Anything else you would need to know to help out? I'm at the point where my good deal just isn't a good deal anymore and I'm starting to look at T-Mobile phones instead of unlocked ones. Frustrated. =-(
Last July, I switched over to MetroPCS from Verizon with my girlfriend to save money and ever since then, I've had all kinds of problems:
Some numbers can't call or text, and even though I'm now with MetroPCS, the Verizon boot screen is still there along with a bunch of Verizon apps I can't get rid of. The phone also alerts that the SIM card isn't from Verizon. On top of that, the upper left says "T-Mobile".
I am not able to update to Nougat because of this.
Is there anything I can do to get the update?
I switched from Verizon to Tmobile. I can not get update from verizon by OTA. You need connect your phone to computer, download VZW Software Upgrade Assistant. Then you can update your phone.
Yes, you can not get rid of Verizon boot screen, you can disable some verizon apps, the alert of no verizon sim will be shown each time you reboot the phone. And I believe MetroPCS is using Tmobile network, so displaying Tmobile logo is normal.

That answers my question! I appreciate it!
So I bought a SM-N950N Note 8 in October 2017 and has been great until now where it cannot receive or make phone calls. Everything else works fine - SMS, mobile Data, everything. Just unable to make or receive calls.
I have done everything that I have found on the internet from resetting network settings, resetting cache partitions, factory reset and nothing works.
I have made sure its not hte sim card by putting it into my old S5 and it works fine.. it currently is my phone until I figure out the Note 8.
Does anyone out there have any other suggestions?
Check your APN settings.
Check another sim card in your note 8 (friend's sim card or a new sim card (old one might work on s5 but might not on note 8)) or Take it to your carrier and let then try their sim card and see. Point is try another or different sim card!
Might to check if there is no dust or dirt in the tray or dirty sim card.
Last resort BACKUP your phone and factory reset.
Take your device to the high street retail branch of your cell provider and let them take a look at your device. They will probably reinstall the network settings on your device
So basically what was going on was that when I need to make a call, the note 8 needs to drop from LTE to H or H+, which I observed it doing on my samsung S5 and a Samsung S7. For some reason or another, the SM-N950N KT version is stuck in LTE only mode and wouldn't downgrade to H or H+ and therefore couldnt make or receive calls.
The fix? Since I bought it back in 2017, way past any warranty period - I installed Dr Ketan's ROM and effectively changing the CSC to Australia region and within 15mins all fixed!
If anyone else is having a similar problem, I was on the Kogan network [vodafone].
Thank you Dr Ketan! https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...t/29-09-17-dr-ketan-rom-jio-volte-n1-t3681163
so is it still called a phone? (yes i get mad when trucks are called cars)

I know right! It was just a tablet before - had to use my old samsung s5 as a phone.
It is all good now - Dr Ketan's ROM is amazing - Loaded my note 8 with an Australian CSC and it is perfect. No bloatware, high configurable.
Back in July I got a steal on a new US Cellular Galaxy Note 9, so I immediately threw my iPhone 6S SIM card into it and went through several rounds of software updates. After the last update the splash screen switched to AT&T and it suddenly had several AT&T apps. It didn't TOTALLY eliminate the US Cellular stuff because I had to delete at least one app and change the Samsung browser's default home page.
Due to the iPhone SIM card and some stuff on AT&T's side, it would not do VoLTE or WiFi calling until I got a new SIM and had AT&T use the IMEI from an AT&T Galaxy Note 9 (read it off one from the store). I did that in late August and the only remaining issue O noticed was that my MMS messages will not download as long as I am on WiFi.
I just noticed what may be a new issue: I think I stopped getting carrier updates. Looking on AT&T's site, I see that they have multiple newer updates with the latest from September 18th:
https://www.att.com/devicehowto/tut...tep_KM1278532?make=Samsung&model=SamsungN960U
My "Security Patch Level" says May 1, 2019, while AT&T's website says that there have been 4 updates since then (latest at Security Patch Level September 1, 2019).
My baseband version doesn't quite match any of the ones associated with AT&T updates, though their May 22nd update seems to be the most similar (AT&T's N960USQS1CSE1 compared with my N960USQU1CSE3).
I recall that the new phone updated multiple times and was still on Oreo before it updated again to Pie, and again to AT&T-flavored Pie. I figure the final update was really just adding the AT&T apps and splash screen, but it somehow stopped me from getting further updates from US Cellular. I'm pretty sure I had an AT&T SIM card inserted for all of my updates.
On that note, I believe I tossed the original SIM and US Cellular does not operate in my region (only showed up here through a salvage store). I'm not easily able to get another US Cellular SIM for triggering it to revert to a US Cellular ROM. I'm not interested in custom ROMs and all that and ultimately just want to keep my phone up to date the same way a normal AT&T customer would after buying theirs from AT&T. I thought the Note 9 adding carrier customizations to match the inserted SIM would take care of all this automatically (half the point, right?) but I guess I was wrong.
Is it possible to get carrier updates like I was getting before? If not, what would you guys recommend for getting up to date and staying up to date? Thanks!

I'll check it out when I get back to my PC. Thanks! I assume it's something I need to flash with Odin?
