Can you be more specific? Are you using the static route method to block Google DNS, or are you redirecting Google DNS with iptables commands? Which apps specifically are having problems? What firmware version is your Chromecast on?

Sorry, realized I was less specific here. I'm running the latest build of Eureka. I've verified they are up to date, even manually reflashed. I have the DNS set to Unlocator using the Web UI that is included with the rom, and that has always worked just fine before. It mainly affects my android devices. I can usually get things to cast from my laptop. I've verified that both the casting device/chromecast are connected using the same DNS servers. I've flushed the data/cache for the chromecast app as well as google play services, reinstalled affected apps. I don't really know where else to go.

Both Netflix and Google have been pusing out rapid updates over the last few weeks that seem to be designed to prevent the use of an alternative DNS to bypass region restrictions. I've managed to get it running again a couple of times with last resort measures, but I'm at the point of giving up, at least until things stabilize.
Yea, if nobody figures this out I may have to look into alternate devices.

Hi Saschwatch,
I'm looking into this, just wanted to let you know - I'm experiencing the same issues now.
I can't put my finger on what the defining cause is as of yet, it's not the new OTA (I experienced the issue with a chromecast on an old OTA), I've got friends/family using them fine too.
Could be unlocator, could be a play services update or something odd that has broken it :|
Can anyone else comment on what they're seeing?
Kind regards,
Kyonz

One theory here (I don't use unlocator so it's a pure guess)
Is it all apps or just some apps?
Is it possible that Google has made all Client servers deny traffic from Unlocator addresses? Then it really wouldn't matter what version of CCast you had any request to send a receiver app would be ignored by the server that would send it.
They could use IPSec to ban their IP traffic.
Another idea is this seemed to start right around the time of the Raid in Sweden, Perhaps some of unlocator hardware was seized in error as well?
I know that it's something with android or the way cc handles android requests. My laptop casts fine DNS switched or not. The second I change DNS on my phone/tablet they act all funky. Android "sees" both my cc but the app never makes it to the TV screen after hitting cast. DNS set to normal and all loads fine.

I'm not sure if Google is doing this, but Netflix started to region block users using VPN by getting ther geolocation or GMT differences.

Google seems to be up to something. All of my apps cast from my phone fine when no DNS/VPN service is used. Turn anything on and the Chromecast won't open any of the apps it worked perfect with before.

Already fixed your problem?
I don't have an unlocator account. But dnsflix.com works for me. (it's my own little project)
I am able to switch from Dutch, to American netflix.
Don't forget to also change the dns serverd on your phone.. I use override dns for Android. It's for rooted phones only. If you still have problems, downgrade android netflix app. The .apk is also on my website. If you have apple, sorry I don't know anything about apple ;p

Hey All,
Sorry I lost track of this thread, it appears to be an issue specific to Unlocator.
When unlocator is in use there is an SSL handshaking error that appears when you communicate to the chromecast - I've switched over to overplay for the moment and it is running fine. I've got a ticket open with Overplay and am working with one of their developers on this.
Will update once I have more information - but for the moment try another provider
Kind regards,
Kyonz

I have tried to follow the Tor re-routing, but every time I make the change, it gives me an error saying "tor no specified exit routers"
I would have to re-install the program. Everytime I open Tor Browser, and use IP Addres Locator it tels me the IP addres is in Iran, I haven't been lucky enough to have an IP addres from the US when I start up.
Did you have any instructions on how to use Tor in order to manage a US IP Address?

If you've got this far, you'll be fine now. The only time Google checks your location (as far as Music is concerned) is during sign-up and when you try and purchase music. For browsing and playing from your library online, and for playing your library on your device, there are no location checks.

I'm in Canada as well.
Months ago, I used a simple Chrome extension called "Stealthy" to spoof my IP. Basically, a click or two and I was done. And, as someone else mentioned, after you've signed up there's no more ip checks so I have that extension disabled.
Of course, you won't get the "My Music" tab if you visit Play from your PC. But, no problems if you go to the music url directly.
Hi, my Google Music Manager has stopped working over the last few days, the program won't open or get past a screen that says it cannot get an internet connection. I wondered if any other UK users had the same issue ?. I've tried disabling anything on my setup that might be blocking it, and haven't changed anything before this happened. It's frustrating because I was loving using it on my Nexus 7. Any advice would be appreciated as I'm baffled. Thanks.
Same problem here my Google Music Manger wouldn't connect to internet...
Any Solution.......
I'm still stuck, I've been talking to an english technology journalist who says he is still uploading okay, have spent many late nights this week on this, but totally baffled. It can't be a widespread problem else the forums would be full of chatter about this.
I've gotten round this by installing Ubuntu alongside my Windows XP installation and installing the Linux version of Google Music Manager - and it works !. If you look in the log file for Windows Google Music Manager mine is moaning about Root Ca Certificates and being unable to find an iTunes folder (well it's wasting it's time looking for that one). At least my Nexus 7 is slowly filling with music now.
Same problem with me too. It just says to check internet connection. :|
Then I tried it in Ubuntu but no luck there too.

You need a valid US address (hint: find one on a real estate site ). Then you must set this as your default address and billing address (with your normal credit card).. Then you can buy music. I've bought a few albums much cheaper than Aussie music sites. Oh, you also need to be on a US VPN to actually purchase music too.
Google have now fixed this. Just uninstall the program from your pc and redownload it from Google Music, the new version is working perfectly for me.

My ChromeCast was happily using Unblock US for Netflix for months. It stopped working on Friday. Is it a general problem, or is it just with my setup?
The long version:
I got my ChromeCast before Christmas, and I've been happily using it with multiple Netflix regions using Unblock US. On Friday I started getting the "We're having trouble playing this title" error on some titles, and it looks like my ChromeCast can no longer access non-UK titles.
It worries me that this coincides (sortof) with the official availability of ChromeCast in the UK, and I'm wondering if they've released a new build or service which prevents the use of services like Unblock US.
My ChromeCast is using build 16278 (with a worrying 'Country code GB' that I never noticed before). I'm intercepting access to Google's DNS on my router using the following iptables commands:
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -d 8.8.8.8 -j DNAT --to-destination 208.122.23.22
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -d 8.8.4.4 -j DNAT --to-destination 208.122.23.23
And as I said, these have been working fine for months. I'm also fairly confident that they're still OK, because I've set my tablet to use 8.8.8.8 as the DNS and it can access Netflix US content just fine.
So, my questions:
1. Is there anyone else in the UK using Unblock US to access Netflix using official ChromeCast build 16278? Is it still working for you? (If you want a particular title to try, Supernatural season 6 episode 13 is the one that I first noticed the problem with, although many titles refuse to play.)
2. If it's not working for you either, do you know why?
3. If it is working for you, what should I try next? (I've already done a factory reset, and that didn't make a difference.)
I've been happy with Unblock US but I'm equally happy to move to a different provider if there's a better one.
(I hope this is the right forum - it's where ChromeCast region settings and use of iptables have been discussed in the past. I'm a bit worried that the forum says I'm breaking the rules by asking a question, so if there's a better place for this post please don't be offended by my ignorance and please do let me know!)
Many thanks.
Uh oh. You say you have build 16278? That's new. My U.S. Netflix access still works, but I'm still on build 16041.
Maybe there's no cause for concern yet. The new Country Code was there in build 16041, and in any case I would think it's the Netflix app that would have to change to cause a problem rather than the Chromecast build. But obviously there should be some re-testing with build 16278 as it rolls out. Netflix could have already changed their app, but made it dependent on build 16278 or higher since everyone is going to get that sooner or later.
Regardless of the current situation, long term this Country Code is clearly going to be a problem. It can probably be solved by the DNS proxy services eventually, but until then I wouldn't be buying a Chromecast to use from outside the U.S..

I expect we had better get used to this breakage with things like Netflix due to the fact that Google does a tiered rollout of updates and the Apps must also be updated to work with those new updates from time to time.
Netflix I think may be particularly susceptible because I suspect the Netflix Player app may actually be embedded in the device. It's the only app that does not have a LINK in the App list CCast uses to retrieve players.
Perhaps someone from Team Eureka can comment and confirm if that is true or not.
But what seems to be a pattern is Google releases an update, Something breaks and then you see a flood of CCast compat app updates a week or so later. Hopefully once the CCast OS is more mature this breakage will happen less frequently.
Just wanted to point out, sometimes if you change settings on your router or the connection is disrupted randomly, the iptables may get reset and stop intercepting Chromecast DNS requests. Rebooting the router to start the script again helps.

One of them said that Netflix was a separate binary and the only exception to running in a Chrome sandbox, so seems that is the case. It could still be cleverly coded so it wouldn't require a full update unless there was a low level or architecture change.

Yup... even with the forced updates there's still a period of time when there are units on both old and new versions, DNS caches haven't been updated, etc.

I'm sure you probably already done this but have you checked your current external IP Address is active on the unblock-us website?
Some updates
Hi all,
Many thanks for all your responses. Some updates:
I checked the external IP address was active on Unblock US, and it was.
I restarted the router, the ChromeCast and the tablet. It made no difference.
I did another factory reset on the ChromeCast. It made no difference.
I managed to change the Country Code to US. It made no difference.
So I still have the problem and I’m not sure what the differences between my setup and Pully’s are.
The Country Code change is worth a bit more explanation. You all may already know this, or know how this mechanism works, but I didn’t.
* After a factory reset, I couldn’t see the ChromeCast on my tablet to set it up. I could see it with my phone. (My tablet is set to use Google’s DNS - intercepted and redirected to Unblock US’s DNS - rather than my ISP’s, location services are off, and ChromeCast has access to location services turned off in App Ops. My phone just uses regular DNS and has location services turned on.)
* I set the ChromeCast up using my phone, and it set the location (automatically) to GB. I’m not certain of this but I’ve no recollection of choosing the location at this point.
* I couldn’t get things to work and posted here. (Just so you know the timeline.)
* I did a factory reset again, and tried to set ChromeCast up using the tablet again. It still couldn’t see the reset ChromeCast. Then I changed App Ops on the tablet to allow access to location services, and it could suddenly see the ChromeCast to set it up. Location services were still turned off on the tablet, but it seems turning it off in App Ops interfered with it seeing the reset ChromeCast.
* When I tried to set it up with the tablet - now that it could see it - as part of the setup process it gave me a drop down to choose the location. I chose US. (I’ve also set it to EST/New York time and language to English (United States).
So the upshot is: I believe you can set the Country Code in build 16278 if you set it up using a device that has location services turned off, but not blocked by App Ops.
Unfortunately I’m still no further on with my Netflix problem and I’m running out of things to try.
How long does the US Country Code stick? Does it reset to GB when you power-cycle the Chromecast?
Maybe it's time to broaden your experiments to identify where the problem lies.
Instead of relying on the iptables commands you could try the static-route-to-nowhere method to block Google DNS and put the DNS addresses in your router fields for the moment. See if that makes a difference.
For an alternative DNS you could sign up for a 1-week trial with one of the others like Unotelly, or else try the free DNS services currently offered by SmartDNSProxy or Tunnelto.us. I have confirmed that they work with Netflix on the Chromecast.
If neither of those things work, at least you have eliminated some possibilities.
Right now tunnelto.us is working for me, whereas unlocater broke some time ago. SmartDNSProxy also not working for me.

It works now!
Hi folks,
I have it working now (thanks!) and have a bit more information. Some of this is just my supposition of what’s going on.
First of all, Country Code sticks between power-cycles without any problems. Time zone and language don’t seem to have any impact either. Also, I honestly have no idea whether Country Code has any effect at the minute. It might still be a red herring, or a problem for the future.
The fix was related to an idea DJames1 had. I changed my iptables to use tunnelto.us and it didn’t work either. So I tried setting the router to use Unblock US as the main DNS as well as in iptables, and it worked.
As I said before, this worked fine for months up until Friday. I don’t know if it’s the new build or something else, but I believe that something is now verifying(?) DNS using the DHCP-supplied DNS as well as Google’s hard-coded DNS.
I don’t want all machines on my home network using Unblock US’s DNS, so I updated my router config to supply Unblock US DNS entries via DHCP just to the ChromeCast. This works fine. If you want to do the same, and you’re using DD-WRT, just add this to your Additional DNSMasq Options:
dhcp-option=altdns,6,208.122.23.23,208.122.23.22
dhcp-host=#ChromeCast MAC Address#,net:altdns
Obviously you need to change #ChromeCast MAC Address# to the MAC address of your own ChromeCast. And if you want to use other DNS entries instead of Unblock US, just change the two IP addresses in the first line.
I’m sure there are other ways of achieving the same ends, but this worked for me. And the easiest option is just to use Unblock US as the DNS for your router/DHCP as well as the iptables entries.
I hope this helps anyone else who has the same problem. Many thanks for your help and advice.

I can't say but it would make some sense that the DNS used will change depending on the Country Code of the device.
So a CCast in the UK might use a hardcoded DNS for GoogleUK server as opposed to a US server....
You're right!

Well now that's an incredibly good question! I'm embarrassed that that didn't occur to me and I didn't check it.
So, I deleted my iptables setup, set my tablet to use Unblock US DNS's directly (instead of using 8.8.8.8 and having that translated), and it still works.
It seems you're right. My router is providing Unblock US DNS to the ChromeCast via DHCP, and (I think) that's it. That's the only non-standard bit.
So, yes, it looks to me like it's now just taking the DHCP DNS and using that instead of Google's hardcoded DNS.
Thanks for figuring this out! (I'm still a bit embarrassed I didn't notice it.)

My router’s dhcp server tells the clients on my network (including my chromecast) that they should use 10.12.0.1 as their dns server.
As you can see in tcpdump output above, the chromecast (10.12.30.1) is ignoring that and using 8.8.8.8.
New build?

Interesting. My problems started last Friday, and mine is reporting (stock) build 16278.
Make sure you reboot router and Chromecast at the start of each test for clean results as DNS queries can be cached.
It seems that firmware 16278 has only been reported in the UK. Anyone seeing that outside of the UK?
Restart, restart, restart...

Yeah, today was a bit of a restart frenzy for me. Both the router and the ChromeCast have been powered off and back on again since the config changes and they continue to work.

Yes here in Denmark, my cc has 16278
Hi,
I have created a small html5 app that allows playing of local media on Google Chrome with playlist support. The Chrome tab can then be cast to Chromecast. This helps me play the huge collection of YouTube videos I have in my computer, on Chromecast. Just thought I'll put it on here for anybody that might find it useful.
Steps to use:
1. Open Google Chrome and go to sidscast . com
2. Browse for folder or files (Audio/Video) to add to playlist.
3. Play
4. Cast tab to Chromecast
Audio/Video Formats suppported: MP4, MP3, Wav, WebM and Ogg
Playlist support: Yes
Thanks!
Sid
Sounds promising! I'll try it when have a chance.

Works fine on Ubuntu....with Chrome
Been looking for something simple to allow playlists for chromecast....this works fine. Thanks
Works perfectly w/ windows 8.1 in chrome. This solved a very irritating limitation of existing casting software.
Thank you

You sir, deserve more recognition. This is beautiful. Thank you.
thanks given
Thanks so much for this, works really great for streaming my local MP3 files.
Question, would it be possible in a future update to support:
1) displaying embedded album art from the streaming song
-or-
2) specifying a directory of images that can be cast to display while the mp3 is streaming.
Would be great if it can cast photos.
Amazing, the first thing I tried worked. But I'm curious why this can't be run locally, couldn't you make a browser app? They have them, but none work. Not even Videostream (They say it's my network when I have no AV, no firewall, the ports forwarded in my router, and friends who can't get it to work more often than whenever the hell it wants).
You don't mention anywhere, so I'm curious just what info gets passed back and forth between me and your server while I'm using this.

Hey man, Videostream guy here. Is it just never playing the video?
The difference is how this uses the Cast Extensions tab casting method (WebRTC) instead. All you need to do, to do the same thing without this app, is drag and drop the video in to Chrome.
Our app needs TCP port access to your computer, in order to send the raw video data to your Chromecast.
Now, there's no reason why you should have been left hanging like this. If you like you can forward me your emails and I can look into why our support f'd up so hard. This is an easy fix. I can also do a remote desktop with you whenever you like and we can get this solved, asap.

Hey, thanks for the reply.
I've been getting replies, for sure (The replies come from freshdesk, signed Rahul Kayaith), but pretty much been given the idea that it's my problem, when I can reset literally every device on my network and it still not work (I even went so far as to open the ports in my router since he made it seem like the traffic needs to pass between their servers and my computer). I'm using literally no antivirus or firewall, just Windows Defender, I've added Chrome as an exception to Defender's scans, and my network is private/home. The app hasn't worked for me at all for a couple weeks now, when previously it worked intermittently. The port fix tool has never worked, not once since I got the Chromecast. (Before it quit working altogether, it would work seemingly whenever it felt like it. Nothing that I did on purpose seemed to work)
My friend has 3 Chromecasts, uses antivirus and spyware software, a different router/modem, and a different computer. The only thing we have in common is Windows 8.1, Chrome, the Videostream app. He says it also works only intermittently. I just don't see that the problem is on either his network or mine!
I did figure out that I could "save" the SidsCast page locally and run it and it works, so I don't need to worry about what's being sent to his server, and it's working with most types of video, but not all, so I have to be careful what I "acquire," but still more reliable than Videostream has been!

(I run Windows 8.1 too)
Yeah those are the generic fixes we give to people, Rahul is our local support guy we have working with us as an intern . Your router really shouldn't have anything to do with this.
What you could do is check (Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Firewall\Customize Settings) , or in your "Windows Firewall" settings go to "Turn Windows Firewall on or off" on the left, and make sure "block all incoming connections" is NOT checked on Public or Private.

My firewall is set to "off." I never use it, nor any third party firewall or AV. I've run through all of this with Rahul, at least since some time in March. And opening the ports in my router was just, let's say, a last-ditch effort to figure out the problem, since nothing else has worked.

Well, if you like we can try to do an ole Remote Desktop with TeamViewer if you like? If you're into it I can do it whenever. It's normally easy to diagnose as the developer. My email is up there ^--

Oh joy! I didn't think people were using it and finding it useful! Well, although I know this is a very late reply, but I'll answer anyway. There is no server. It's all client side. The only thing that it needs a connection to the internet for, is the ads at the side. So you can very well just have it work without an internet connection after the initial load. There's no data collection or anything of that sort.
Hello dear fellows.
I've updated my S2 LTE today through OTA from version 5.0.2 to version 6.0.1.
While in 5.0.2, I contacted Samsung about a procedure to make the S2 to forget obsolete networks, since the usual method does not work, because networks not in range are not shown!
Except for another guy asking the same question (somewhere), I didn't found anything in the net about this issue, I don't know if people already realized the problem... (seems all people is quite busy getting root and/or the new firmware).
So, Samsung told me the feature is not available, that I should backup with Kies and do a factory reset! UNACCEPTABLE!!!
I wait for the 6.0.1 hopping that the problem was solved in this version, but NOOO, they MEAN it. IT IS NOT available!
So...
- Does anyone one of you manage to find a way to make the S2 to forget / delete old unused networks?
- Does anyone find acceptable the actual status quo of the problem?
- Is there someone with a reasonable explanation for this feature being removed from S2 firmware? (At least some explanation I can swallow)?
Thank you all.
I think it's just sloppy thinking from the developers. Of course one should be able to get a list of known/saved WiFi networks and delete from the list accordingly. I can do it on my Nexus 6P running N preview 3. Maybe this app can be used to achieve this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mdroidapps.wifimanager
One should also be able to see the password for saved WiFi networks without having to be rooted. Yes, it's a security risk but Windows and Linux let you see the password in clear text.
Android still have a bit of maturing to do.
And while we're at it - what I really want is being able to change DNS servers while on mobile data. When limited to your carriers DNS servers you are unable to connect to DNS blocked sites like in example some torrent sites. I would like to set my DNS to my Raspberry Pi running pi-hole and get DNS adblock even though I'm on mobile data. But this is only possible using a VPN app.

Thank you for the reply.
I've tested the app "wifi manager". It did not work as expected!
- The app indeed show the list of all networks even the ones not in range / obsolete.
- The app indeed allow the 'forget' procedure.
I use then the 'forget' procedure in a old network. The app says "wait....", but after that, the old network is still showing in the list no matter how many times you apply the procedure, no matter if you close and reenter the app. That means, the app is useless for the purpose to delete old networks, at least in the Tab S2 device.
I don't know it this issue is just a developer's sloppy thinking, or if this is Samsung stink over all of us. I think it is the later...
Sorry I do not know any way to change connection DNS the way you need, or any other way for that matter.
Still looking.

Touch VPN will bypass those blocks.
I am trying to run the Android version of Netflix on my Chromecast rather than the one on Android TV. This is because Chromecast version detects the use of proxies and VPN's to stop accessing content outside your country. But the Android version (I am using Netflix 7.83.0 build 25 35223 beta) on my Pixel phone does not. Neither does the version on my Samsung UHD player or Chrome.
I can sideload the apk okay and when I start it up I get the profile selection screen but no icon has focus. If I press Enter assuming one profile has focus, I can startup NF and I get a display but the screen is locked - nothing happens no matter what I press.
I am assuming that the Chromecast is running Android 10 so it should run the apk. I ran File Commander okay to download the apk from my Google DRive.
Any ideas?
Yeah, the phone version needs a touchscreen. Use the one it came with.
"detects the use of proxies and VPN's" -- so implement the VPN at your router.
Or ditch crapflix.

I can implement the VPN in the router but NF detects the VPN is running. If I use a proxy on the router and block all access to Google DNS I can access out of region NF on all devices apart from the Amazon Firestick since the apk seems to detect that direct calls to Google DNS are being blocked. The same detection occurs on the Chromecast TV. But the Android apk is fine which is why I thought I could try running the Android APK rather than the Chromecast TV version.
So instead of blocking google DNS IP addresses, redirect them to something appropriate that can handle the lookups the way you want them.
how does netflix know if the vpn is running? Did google sdk provide apps the ability to see what interface or other apps are running? That doesn't seem right.
Are you certain it's not just because you're using VPN that has a known network that's blacklisted? A cheap vps is cheaper than a VPN subscription and you can set up an openvpn server in like 20 min.
Try plugging in a keyboard or mouse. some of the keys are mapped to 'normal' buttons.

No idea nor care, I was just replying to him because he said something about DNS.
I cancelled Crapflix years ago when they became hostile. I'm not interested in PAYING them for the honor of FIGHTING them to get access to their content.
