OneDrive on Windows Phone 8.1 - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
yesterday I ahve bought a Lumia 735: a question, but I cannot open file in OneDrive offline? Please let me know.
Thanks and regards.

Pretty sure OneDrive on the phone doesn't sync full file changes from other devices; that would use up too much data and possibly too much battery (and possibly too much storage, for those with smaller-capacity phones). The OneDrive app is a way to see what files are in your drive, and to download them, but obviously that requires a connection. If you want to access a file offline, download it first (while you have a connection) and then save it to the phone (or SD card).

Hi,
do you know a app like OneDrive? I have seen Cloud6 but it does not save the file. Please let me know.
Thanks and regards.

MyPhoneExplorer (wifi-usb-bluetooth) - Kies air (wifi) - Wifi file explorer (wifi).
Dropbox and Chrome to Phone are worth a look .
jje
I use dropbox too, to access files on my computer from my phone.
May i suggest in my and your intrest to use my link for signing up at Dropbox.
DropBox Sign Up
This will give both you and me more storage space ! Thanks.
There is also an app that lets you photograph files on your desktop which will then get downloaded to your phone, i can't remember its name atm though...
Will update when i remember it....
Android Manager.
Transfer, sync much like Kies air but better inmo. But you also have to install the windows client which you can find here
Snap N' Go is the one your thinking of, but it's a bit tempremental.

[Q] Motocast or SugarSync?

The idea of Motocast (access files on home computer from phone) seems really useful. I see there is also an app called SugarSync. Has anyone tried both and like one better than the other?
I know Dropbox is also available, but I don't want cloud storage. I want to get the files on my home PC. Or can Dropbox also do this?
Yes, I should try both and decide myself. But my current phone isn't very current and I'm not eligible for an upgrade for 16 days, 4 hrs, 13 minutes, 36 seconds. So until then, I'm stuck with just browsing forums and looking through play.google
Thanks much for any replies . . .

SugarSync is also a cloud service. It stores all of your synced files on their servers, and then syncs it to your device.
I have no idea how Motocast works, since I just use SugarSync (heh , paid user even!) but if you are against cloud storage for whatever reason (privacy, etc), Motocast might be a better choice.
Thanks for the reply, podspi.
I installed Motocast on my home computer last night and setup one folder for testing. I logged into Motocast on my work computer this morning. I was able to open files from my home computer at work! Pretty cool! I assume it works as well on a Droid.
I have read more about SugarSync. Looks like it can do the same! You can put files on their cloud, buy you can also use your computer as a "personal cloud". I have nothing against cloud storage, but I would rather be able to access all my home files without having to put them in cloud storage first. My home computer is always on so that should work out for me.

Which Cloud storage service would be the right choice for me?

Hi! There are so many cloud services out there, but it's difficult for me to pick the right one.
I travel a lot, and keep most of my data that I want to be backed up on my external hard drive. I would like the cloud service to come with the software which would let sync certain folders to the cloud from that external hard drive. Such a software should also monitor all of the changes I make in those folders, and follow the changes.
On the occasional basis, I would like to be able to share a file or two from that cloud.
When I install a new windows, I would like that software not to archive my computer with the external drive, but to recognize my old external drive and keep it running/syncing, etc.
The space I need is about 150GB and it's rising at the speed of 30GB per year.
Option, I would really enjoy, although I don't think it's possible, would be to share a folder with my parent's and let them sync it to their computer with read-only access.
If you guys could recommend something, I would be really grateful.
Dropbox will be the best for you

WP8.1 (Lumia 520) Resized pictures if attached to email

Hi,
I've noticed in 8.1 version pictures - if attached to the email - are always resized.
Example:
- original picture shared via bluetooth: 2592x1456 pixel
- original picture sent via mail: 1632x916 pixel
I saw - with another lumia and wp7.8 - the same "issue".
Now with the 520 updated to wp8.1 nothing is changed.
Is there some setting/way in order to attach pictures to the email without losing resolution?
Thanks

Ok, if I don't want to use it?
It may work to use a file manager app (like Aerize Explorer, Files, Pocket File Manager, etc.) to select the file and choose to "share" it via Email. The resizing is probably being done via the Photos app, the other apps won't do that.
If it's still getting resized, put the file in a ZIP first and then email the ZIP. Some of the file manager apps can do that.
The obvious other option, since if for some reason full-size files are needed a PC is probably involved anyhow, is to copy the files off the phone (via USB, Bluetooth, whatever) and email them from the PC.

Thanks for your answer.
I'm searching the easier way to "share" pictures without losing resolution... considering that the user that use the phone isn't so good with tech... and if I tell her something like zip or something else the result can be deleterious...
Anyway, also for my knowledge (personally I'm not using WP) I will try your suggestions
Ah, gotcha. Yeah, if you want to do something like send everybody full-resolution photos from your vacation or whatever, copying them to the PC first is a good idea regardless. It *is* annoying that the app shrinks the photos before sending, but not really a huge surprise. WP8 tried pretty hard to reduce cellular data usage, and sending photos from a phone can use a lot of it if they're full-res.
It should also be pretty easy to make an app that just does photo sharing stuff, at full res (instead of using the built-in one). In fact, I'd be shocked if you (or your friend) can't already find a suitable one on the store.

Files disappeared,

Yes, I know how to use google, yes, I tried many things now and I don't know where else to look for help so I'm asking here, a place with many smart heads full of ideas.
I was doing pretty normal thing on my phone this morning, just trying to copy all the files from internal memory onto the PC. Of course I couldn't do that thanks to "Unspecified error" during copying some of the folders, including Downloads and DCIM. I managed to copy only some of the files from internal storage. I thought a reboot might help. And so the nightmare began. All the other files I wanted to copy disappeared from gallery and Total Commander. They must be on the phone though, as there is something on the phone that uses 2gb of memory. I did not delete them, the system just fails to see them. I already tried deleting all the ".nomedia" files, clearing cache and data from Media Storage app, disabling it, rebooting and enabling again but it was of no use. I'm helpless and I don't know what to do, why did android even do this? I lost a lot of photos and images and I'm really upset about that. Any ideas what to do? The phone is not rooted, never played with software in it, it's updated to 5.1
Download any File Manager from Play Store, check if the files are on the phone memory. If not, well, they are somehow lost. Maybe you cut-paste them onto your PC, and the files were deleted, but you got an 'unspecified error' on moving.
Thanks a lot for a response. I use Total Commander on every android phone I had, I can see that my files look like they disappeared completely, android just generated empty generic folders ("Pictures etc) after I cut off the previous folders along with their content so I saved a little bit that I could. On the other hand something is occupying 2gb of data but the phone refuses to show what, so there is a chance my files are there. After copying the whole content of the phone to the folder on desktop it just shows it weight few hundreds KB. I'll be trying to use some recovery software for android. The question is how did this happen at all? It had no right to happen, what if this happened to someone who has completely no idea about that stuff? Who's to blame and who's responsible for helping such a person? Motorola? Google? Anyway, this is the last phone with no micro-sd card slot I used. A memory card is the best backup
You COULD recover your files even if they were deleted if Android still had a mass storage mode. I don't think any of the data recovery softwares play nice with the MTP transfer that android offers. Of course, the SD card is infinitely better, but a rarity these days. I am sorry for your lost data. You seem like you did everything within your reach to get it back.
EDIT: Just to be sure, did you cut-paste the folders on your PC from phone, or just copy-paste. It might be possible for files to be deleted in cut-paste, if some error occurs in copy.
Thanks for contributing. It seems Google knows better then any of us what we need and there's no more Mass Storage option which gives free access to memory. Unfortunately I don't have that option. First I ensured which files are not affected by error by trying to copy them folder after folder. Then there were left files I couldn't copy, it was DCIM with most recent photos (unfortunately) and download where I kept lots of images with cool infographics found on the internet. I thought a reboot would help to get access to them and you know the rest. Files were there no longer. I'm seriously considering switching to Windows Phone, it seem it's too much to ask for a phone that just "werks" nowadays...I have a painful lesson to use memory card as well as cloud synchronizing but didn't give up yet, still trying anything I can I also wrote to Motorola with help request but I don't think they'll help me any better than people here, although it's more their responsibility to fix that stuff, the phone is barely 6 months old.
