I yanked the screen protector off of my note to use this but I'm not really a fan of not using any screen protection at all. Does anyone use a screen protector that doesn't interfere with the Gear VR?

I initially had a glass protector on mine but ripped it off because of bad halo effect around all sides. I went naked but like you I don’t like the idea of an unprotected display. So I went back to a bunch of xtreme guard dry protectors, cut the top and bottoms down to decrease halo’s and the result is acceptable. I actually like the feel of the protector and the S-Pen works fine but there is still a hint of halo on the sides.
The only issue is that even for the smallest speck of dust or lint trapped below the protector it will show up magnified and appear in the same spot. To the naked eye I cannot see it but it is noticeable in the headset.
If Spigen made this case below for the Note 4 I would do without a screen protector. I just don’t care for cases like otterbox defenders because it’s a pain in the butt to rip that case off 2 to 3 times a day.
http://www.spigen.com/brands/samsun...ote-3/galaxy-note-3-case-slim-armor-view.html
I am using a cheap 6 protectors for $5 from Amazon and it works great... Had to replace the original one I used because with the magnification I could see some dirt inside the screen protector, (wasn't visible thru naked eye) but just replaced the screen protector for another of the 5 left and done... Working perfectly...
I have the clear coat product on mine and i have no problems at all
I use my note 3 screen protector.
I also have a glass protector on my phone including the horrible halo
But i still wonder how much of the edges is shown threw the gear vr.
So tonight i'm gonna test it by putting a piece of tape on the edge of the screen (covering the halo) and look for it threw the gear vr.
Will let you know the outcome...
Note 4 has the brand new and totally unreal Gorilla Glass 4. I wouldn't recommend bothering with a screen protector, it's more like a safety blanket than anything else. Why put highly scratchable plastic or slightly more scratchable extra glass on that beautiful screen when it takes a driven sledgehammer to even scratch the real thing? (eh, can't post link yet because I'm a newbie to XDA. YouTube video code ZabqRB8snK4)

I'm using a supershieldz glass screen protector (0.3mm) and it usually does not interfere with the Gear VR after it starts up.
My only issue is that it sometimes doesn't recognize it as being plugged into the Gear VR. Releasing it and clicking it back in will eventually get it to work, but I wonder if I'm putting stress on the usb thing >_> am I? x_x;; or is this common for people who use a screen protector with the gear vr? I wish they didn't make it such a tight fit for the N4.. ;_;
I have the Bear Motion tempered glass protector on my phone and have had no issues. I'm quite pleased with how well everything works actually.

I was given 2 Sample Otterbox Alpha Glass Screen protectors from Otterbox right before Christmas. I put the screen protector on, I didn't get any halo and I now use my gear with it on. Haven't had any problems with it on at all.

That's weird that some of us would have problems with this protector but not others. I wonder why that is?
I have a friend at work who also has a Note 4 with a screen protector. I might try his Note 4 in the Gear VR later today just for the sake of curiosity.

Ya it helps Otterbox HQ is located less than 70 miles from me. I am in the process of setting up a partnership with Otterbox and my school. To provide discounts to our staff, students and community all while we promote that we use the cases on our Galaxy Note 10.1 (we currently have 800+ Galaxy Note 10.1 deployed to all students and staff K-5) 2 sample screen protectors, 2 sample Note 4 cases and and 3 sample GN 10.1 cases. I have had no halo effect on the Note 4 at all.

If they happen to be using that Moshi Glass (The one that's edge to edge) I would be even more interested :silly:
I just don't like how it feels as though I'm forcing the N4 into the Gear... Without an SP (mine is 0.3 according to SuperShieldz), it clicked in with ease and started up instantly.. but now I will often have to try twice before it starts & I feel like it just barely fits in there now >_>

So I've been reading the thread about not using a screen protector because it can mess with the s-pen but im curious if anyone who has one has actually had issues. I used to buy screen protectors but last time I did i got frustrated with air bubbles and gave up. My year old g2x which has gorilla glass still doesnt have a scratch on the screen. I carry my phones in leather belt holsters so that helps with eliminating pocket scratches. I'd like to hear from people who actually have put a screen protector on thier note 2.
Unfortunately I can't comment on using the S-Pen with a screen protector, but I will link you to this video about screen protector installation that will reduce the likelihood of having bubbles.

Pretty good method. The issue I would always end up with is no matter how many times i wipe the screen there ends up being one tiny spec of dust that land on the screen and cause a bubble and once that happens you basically screw because the dust never wants to come off the protecotor. You can see in his video that the same thing happened to him and he was able to get it off with tape. I have some confidence in gorilla glass after going over a year with my g2x and still no screen scratches but plenty of drops.

go to your bathroom let the hot water run for few minutes so it collects all the dust in the air, then apply it there and hopefully you will have no dust
I use a screen protector, and also had one on my Note 1 and have no problems with the S pen functionality or sensitivity.
I had a 1 week period with no protector on the Note 2 as the shops didn't have any in yet, and noticed no difference between it being on or off.
I use the Focus Crystal Clear. It is very thin and clear. They have matt, anti glare ones, but they make the screen look dull.
http://www.dplushk.com/ultra-crystal-clear.htm
I got the shop to put it on for me. They did an excellent job. They used tape to clear the screen of dust, and also used tape to handle the protector whilst lining it up to apply it. That allowed them to lift it back up again if the alignment was slightly off without getting finger prints on the screen.

I don't use protector now as the glass is really strong in ant-iscratching I think.
I got 1 dollar screen protector, and today I put ZAGG one on, and everything works.
Had some trouble with Zagg due to dust, but I think it turned out great, I taped my self 13 minutes long, I'll put it on youtube.
I like bestskinsever more, but they don't have it yet
I just uploaded the movie.. did not cut it, so it 13 minuts long from start to finish.

I Just want to take the time to thank both of you. I Ordered a Spigen Ultra Crystal screen protector and used both of these methods combined and ended up with a perfect install on my first try. I just got my Note 2 in the mail today and left the original screen protector on it. Did the hinge method with painters tape, took a shower then took off the original screen protector and applied the Spigen Ultra Crystal screen protector. Came out great! O yeah I also wore a pair of rubber gloves just to be even more safe since I've had so many bad experiences applying screen protectors. I will comment back on S-Pen usage with the protector once I've actually used the phone lol i was just so excited about applying the protector perfectly that I had to come and thank you guys first!

The first day I was a little worried the material was too "grippy" but oils from fingers/face has it working perfectly.
Oh and an additional installation trick is to take super fine grit sandpaper to your fingers tips (ha, not to get rid of fingerprints!!) to exfoliate dead skin cells that usually make up the tiny particles that contaminate the film or screen, especially around the edges where you can't help but make contact with the underside of the film. After using the sandpaper wash with a soap that does not have a lotion in it (like some dish soaps and Dove etc). I personally use denatured alcohol to remove all the oil from my fingers so touching the screen or film inadvertently will not leave any marks. It's only a few extra minutes of prep but gives you a flawless installation every time.
I am really hoping I received a defective batch! I see the ISMOOTH has some good reviews and I have no idea why? I even went back to the box and made sure my ismooth was made for the note 2 cause I thought it was an error and meant for the note 1. Attached are some pics. As you can see it does not come close to edge to edge coverage. Or top to bottom for that matter...
There supposed to be like that cause of the curved screen on the note.

It looks like ir protects the screen just not the entire front. The reason its uneven on home button is from lookin at the 2 pics that shiw it on each side of screen. The protector was applied uneven. Its to far to the left

You're joking, right? Only a very select few screen protectors cover to the edge of the Note II. This is because of the curved glass on the Note II; the edges of the screen protector would never adhere to the curved part, and you'd be replacing them in a matter of days because they'd peeled up.
Please read at the least pinned screen protector review thread, which mentions this several times, before slamming a screen protector with a ridiculous complaint based upon your not reading.
*Edit: And based upon your asymmetric installation.

Then why post if you deny the replies. The curved glad part will make your screen protector peel if it stretches across the whole glass. Not to mention if you use a case those will peel it off if you use a good case.

And those are all non traditional (peel and stick) installs. Plus, the s-pen literally annihilates those. I got a Zagg HD when I got this phone. It was so marred in 3 weeks that the Zagg kiosk that I bought it from let me flat out return it!
Sure, these don't go to the edge of the screen. If you want one that does, search for the Voyager 2 by xgear. After shipping its around $40 but it looks awesome. I have a Chinese knockoff that works great too, but the black has glitter which is very annoying so it is not on my phone right now.
Out of dry, traditional installs, iSmooth is the best bang for your buck. Quality of SGP ultra crystal (or at least the next best thing to it), the rainbow effect isn't too bad on it since its a horizontal rainbow throughout, and it has a lifetime warranty even if you screw up the install.

I want to know what the screen is made of. Can you imagine how odd it is to wear a watch with a plastic screen protector on it?

Indeed. if it is true that the Gear has a sapphire glass then only a diamond can scratch it. Diamond rates 10 on the Mohs scale and sapphire glass a close 9. I collect watches and those with a sapphire glass simply don't scratch.
The only question I have in my mind is how on earth have Samsung managed to use sapphire glass?. The cost of such a watch crystal would be the total price of the watch. Sapphire watch glass is a small, or large, fortune!
This one puzzles me. Anyone seen an official Samsung written spec sheet stating sapphire as the crystal?
Best wishes.
On Amazon.com I see GG and GN3 bundled screen protectors and while the screen its saphire crystal the edge around it is metal so I would prefer not to scratch the metal up.
I did find Skinomi has one up by itself here http://www.amazon.com/Skinomi®-Tech...&sr=8-2&keywords=Galaxy+Gear+Screen+Protector
Just read the online Samsung manual and notice they specifically write NOT to use a screen protector on the gear.
I think they are talking about a screen saver like your computer has or some animated screen motion since it would just kill the battery.

Well that clears it up, but the way the post I replied to was written and now edited are different. So no screen protectors, ok, I can live with that. But someone should really tell the damn screen protector companies otherwise they are going to wreck a lot of GG devices.
They also said not to use screen protectors in the Note 1 and Note 2 manuals.
The S Pen and touch works fine with screen protectors on.
I think they say more to cover their own butt.
If anyone does have a problem, then they can tell them to try without the screen protector first. They have no control over the quality of third party screen protectors or the materials used.

The screen is said to be made from sapphire crystal. With this in mind it will certainly not need a screen protector.
Gorilla glass by Corning or Dragontrail is hardened glass not sapphire so will need protection at present. Both manufacturers make it clear their glass is scratch resistant NOT scratch proof. The only material that can mark sapphire glass is diamond or, of course, a sapphire.
To give you an idea, on the Moh scale diamond scores 10, sapphire glass scores 9.
Hope this helps?
Anyone else not using anything on the screen? Seems to be a shame to cover it...
I haven't used a screen protector on my last 3 devices. V20, Pixel, S8+.. Granted I only have my phones for 1 year max and haven't had any screen issues related to scratching etc.. Just don't see the need for one ..They look like crap in a month or two IMO and just get in the way.
Always put a skinomi screen protector.
If i scratch the sides the sides or back im ok.
But if the screen scratches im stuck looking at that forever. With a protector i can pull it off and get a new one.
So i always put a screen proector on , but might not always use a case.
I have the Ringke slim without a screen protector. i did the same with note 7 and did everything to scratch it while in my pocket, couldn't do it.
I am not using a screen protector. I have not used one on my last 3 phones and have not had any issues with my screens. These screens nowadays are pretty scratch resistant. Unless you are very ruff on your phone. On these curved screens they don't look good. But I always use a case. The slimmest case I can find.

I didn't use one on my Note 3, or this Note 5 and the screens have been just fine like you said, though I try to take care of my stuff so if someone is super abusive to their phone they might still benefit from a screen protector I guess. Compared to the last phone I used one on (Galaxy S3), there are a few tiny micro scratches visible at certain angles but overall not bad and those don't justify the inconvenience of having to deal with a protector in the first place, to me at least.
I always use tempered glass on my phones. One time, I dropped my Note 4 on concrete and it landed face down. The tempered glass was all cracked..but it saved the screen.
Considering all of the trouble to get a decent curved tempered glass screen protector for the Note 8 (most are either crap, cost too much or don't work with cases), I'm seriously considering just putting my Note 8 in the Spigen Slim Armor case and not bothering with a screen protector at all. I've never dropped my phone and always make sure that the pocket with my phone in only contains my phone, so my use case might warrant going without a screen protector.
I took the leap and decided to go with Nano protection this time. I hate using screen protectors for the very reason that it just never looks perfect. I put this on both sides of the phone and was able to use it 5 minutes after installing and it fully cured in 48 hours. My S8 plus was full of hairline scratches after the first few weeks. I'm hoping that I don't have the same result with this liquid protection. I'll give a full review in about a month.

I put it on both sides. I do have a thin case on it. But I do not have a screen protector on. It is not going to protect as good as a screen protector. But for those small scratches it does work. I had it on my Nexus 6 and it worked good. They do have some cheap ones that I would not buy those. Here is the one I got
My worry is using S Pen with Note8. To be honest, I have not used any screen protectors with last few handsets, and I haven't had any issues, but this is my first Note device with S Pen and just wondered if anyone had an issue of dust particles getting caught under S Pen and scratching the screen.
But than again, I may be over thinking as chances of dust getting caught under finger is the same.

The spen limits you to a glass protector. I have tried damn near every non glass out there and they just don't work with the spen at all. That said, like others have mentioned glass ones for curved screens are hard to find.
Sand...... That's it, the only thing I have found in normal everyday use that cause scratches on the screen. The finer the sand the worse it is. So I do my best to keep sand out and the s7e I use for a year has no scratches.
Will be going naked on the note 8 unless that Whitestone dome really is as good as everybody says.

This is the new galaxy note 8 cover from Spigen, does anyone got this? This is still unavailable in Europe.
Someone who own this could tell if you have any touch issue? Thanks in advance
its on amazon for only 17.99. see if you can order it through there instead.
I had the spigen glass protector with a different case, the 20 minutes the protector lasted on the phone I needed to do everything 3 times to get a response. Protector came off in my pocket, cut the lining of my suit and scratched me. Spigen didn't even respond to me via amazon when told. I have bought spigen for years, never again.

i can't, i must wait a few weeks that it comes to europe
I just got mine in today. I have a black Note 8, but got the deep sea blue case to add a bit of color to my life. The color is awesome, the fit of the case is great, but the screen protector is just okay. It took a minute to get it aligned properly, but it definitely feels like the touch sensitivity is worse and catches finger prints and smudges pretty easily. I typically don't use screen protectors, so it's a big difference for me. If they had an option for the case without the screen protector for a cheaper price, I would've gone with the case only, but since the screen protector came with it, I figured I'd give it a shot. If things don't work out, I'll just peel off the screen protector. The case is awesome though, I'm coming from a Speck presidio grip case, and am very happy with the Spigen 360.
Thanks for the info. i guess i'll take it asap. It just need to pop on amazon EU
Got my case today. I like the feel of it. Super low profile. Only thing I don't like are the connection joints. Some of them are flared out slight. Must be the material.
For the screen protector. I used the diy loca glue technique. I had extra laying around from my whitestone. Looks very nice. Have two bubbles but they are not in my "normal" touching zones and should have no negative effect. I'll post pics shortly
Pics. As mentioned earlier
