Hi
How can we check class of any sd card if it is not printed on the card
I mean is there any software for this purpose
Regards
Rizwan
Nope
Class is the minimum speed guaranteed by an SD card for read and write.
A class 4 SD card can have speed of 4 MB/s or 14 MB/s but it wont have speed of 3MB/s
There is no way to check an SD card class since it's more of a standard rather than performance bench
@karandpr
Thanks for your reply
Sorry but could ot understand
A Class 4 Card have speed 4mb OR 14mb
There is difference between both speeds
Are you saying speed could vary between 4mb to 14 mb
And what will be the speed of Class 6 or Class 10
Riz
@rizwan65
A Class 4 card has speed >= 4MB/s
A Class 6 card has speed >= 6MB/s
A Class 10 card has speed >= 10MB/s
Speed of class 4 can be anything 4MB/s ,20MB/s ,30MB/s or anything.
But the manufacturer gurantees speed above 4MB/s.
Similarly with class 6 and 10 ,manufacturer gurantees speed of 6 & 10MB/s.
Lets say your Class 4 SD card's speed turned out to be 16MB/s.
Manufacturer could have labeled it as class 6 or 10. But he chose to label it as class 4 since thats what he gurantees.
Class X just means that you will get a speed of X MB/s at the very least.
It's a standard decided by the manufacturers not by bechmarking .
Just an FYI.
Unmarked cards are usually Class 2,
Thanks for this helpful answer

Hi al,
Does anyone know whether the Samsung Galaxy S (I9000) would actually profit from a Class 10 microSD? Can it utilize the read/write speed of these microSD's?
If not, what is the max. class which the Galaxy S would actually use to its fullest?
Greetings,
Evert
of course it will
this is one of the fatest phone ever
if you have an External class 4 vs another External class 6 card inside this phone then you copy stuff with Astro File inside the phone you'll notice the difference in speed
and then if you compare the class 6 vs a class 10 external you'll see even more difference
this will be very important when Froyo comes out and we can finally use App2SD, as the apps will write and load faster to & from the SD on a class 10 than a class 6 or 4
don't even bother with a class 2 it'll be painful slow
and that comes by experience running apps on SD on all my previous phones

What?
Are you basing this on a test, or are you just assuming that the class 10 microSD is theoretically faster then class 6 ?
Biased on that tech specification your making an assumption that we should get this class 10?
The question is weather or not the SGS Vibrant Bus and Data lines can transfer speeds of 80Mbits/s through the MicroSD card slot??
* Class 2: 16 Mbit/s (2 MB/s)
* Class 4: 32 Mbit/s (4 MB/s)
* Class 6: 48 Mbit/s (6 MB/s)
* Class 10: 80 Mbit/s (10 MB/s)
I would say lets buy them and test it out.
I just had 6MBs towards my internal and 5MBs towards my external sd card at the same time trough the usb connector while the sd is a class 2 =p
The sgs would stil benefit from a class 10 i bet
I have just placed an order for a Kingston SDC10/16GB.
What would be an accurate way to measure read/write speed once this card is in my phone? Simply hook it up to PC and pump a large file to it, and see what the speed/bandwidth is?
when performing test, you will always get the fastest speed when the disk is new (empty)
so the proper way to test for performance speed, is to fill the SD card 50% with random files or random sizes, then do a speed test
that will show the true performance of the sd card
you can try these 3

http://www.appbrain.com/app/sd-card-speed-tester/br.com.fast4ward.sdcardspeedtester
http://www.appbrain.com/app/disk-benchmark-free/com.j.diskbenchmark
Very interested in the results myself! Please do let us know how it goes evert!
Any results ?
I'll check them out. Problem is that most seem to test /sdcard, which is the internal SD, and not [correct folder for external SD]...
i also just wondering if class 10 would make any different in data transfer as rite now i'm using class between class 2 and class 6 for 3 of my 5300 (2) i9000 (4) and n7000 (6)..
any result on the test that you have made? thanks!
I use a transcend 16gb class 10 micro sd and i get a write speed of around 14mbps... on other cards i get 5 or 6mbps...

Thanks for the info! Sure feel more confident to get one of these!! Thanks again (and yes i've click the thanks button!) Hehe!!
Regards!
For what it's worth, my speeds are as follows:
Internal: 7mb/s write and 15mb/s read
External: 15mb/s write and 30mb/s read
External is a Transcend class 10 16gb card, almost full and 1yo
Very happy with it

So where are the good deals on MicroSD cards? I'm interested in at least Class4. What are you using with your GTabs?
I was wanting to hold out for a class 4 or better 32gb, but I don't think the included 16gb is going to last me much longer on it's own.
I have a class 6 8gb transcend card for backup that seems to read and write very well on the tab.
I usually just use google search and click on shopping to find good prices since they change constantly.
Thanks for the advice, I did see that shopping.google.com was probably the best way to find good deals.
Does anyone have any experience using a class 10 microSD in their GTab?

Speed Class Rating
The Speed Class Rating is the official unit of speed measurement for SD Cards, defined by the SD Association. The Class number represents a multiple of 8 Mbit/s (1 MB/s), and it measures the minimum sustained write speeds for a card in a fragmented state.[11]
The following are the ratings of some currently available cards:[11]
Class 0 - These cards do not specify performance, which includes all legacy cards prior to class specifications.
Class 2 - Minimum of 2 MB/s performance. Lowest speed for SDHC cards.
Class 4 - Minimum of 4 MB/s performance.
Class 6 - Minimum of 6 MB/s performance.
Class 10 - Minimum of 10 MB/s performance.
Keep in mind that the class is based off WRITE speeds. I have a class 10 in my Vibrant, but only a class 2 in my Tab. That is because I tend to change what I carry on my phone more often than my tablet and thus it is noticeable. But if you are just going to load up 4 gigs of music and 8 gigs of movies and never change it, go with a cheap card.

I just ordered a 16GB class 6 for my Tablet. I'll probably be swapping out movies on a semi-regular basis, so didn't want to get just a class2.
Got a class 4 32GB from NewEgg. Works quite well and exceeds the rated transfer speed most of the time.
I'm using the Sandisk Class 2 32GB card and it's great. Sandisk cards always perform better at read & write speeds than the stated.
You're not going to notice any difference in speed..... not until you connect to a PC that is the only time when you will find a Class 2 is slower than a Class 6.
Using a class 2 16gb and seems to working fine

Greetings!
I'm looking at getting a class 6/10 microsdhc card for a2sd+, moving both dalvik cache and apps into the a2sd+ partition. my current LEXAR class 4 8GB sdhc tested at Write: 7MB/s and read 17.7MB/s by SDTools And 8MB/s write, 9.57MB/s read bt SD Card Tester. Can I expect better speed with class 6 or class 10 sdhc? I have been reading reports that speed doesn't go higher because the phone I/O interface simply could not keep up?
Which brand and model do you recommend?
The reports are most probably right, and going above Class 4 might give you nothing.
how disappointing... sigh..
While you may not notice a speed difference on the phone, you will certainly notice a difference when you use a card reader to transfer files. I have two cards: a 16GB class 6 Transcend and a 16GB class 2 SanDisk. The Transcend is noticeably and significantly faster when writing files to it via a card reader.
I had a Galaxy Ace wich I upgraded to my new Optimus Black. I bought a 8 GB Class 2 micro SD, OB came with 4 GB Class 4 micro SD. Would i feel the difference between both of 'em if i user 8gb class 2 again? I think i need more data storage
Not using a2sd or anything like that.
higher class = higher write/read speed
plus,if you like customize your rom, it's better if you have a >=6 class sd card
class 10 please , i have samsung 8gb class 10 and it`s not a big difference in price between 6 and 10
i got a 16GB class 10 from amazon for about 20€

No. Higher class = higher minimum write/read speed.
You can try get a legendary Class 10 Micro SD with more than 8GB
Belive me, it will be your best upgrade purchase for the OB
Actually I have a Micro SD Adata Class 10 16GB. On my daily usage, I noticed better performance from games that requiere SD data storage and better speed for tranfer files via usb. On my experience, 1GB in 1:30min!!! Well that's when i'm transfer a unique .rar file, if you try with a folder of same size it takes a little more time
Another thing, if you're a gamer, trust me... you must get a 16Gb micro SD at least, because the heavy graphics games (like newest Gameloft Games) have very heavy quantity of data. Only with the downloadable data of Nova2, Asphalth 6, MC3, Street Fighter IV, FIFA12 and Real Racing2 you fill a MicroSD 8GB!!! D: but they are very good games ;D
Well, I hope this info will help you and if I was on your shoes... I hurt you!!! XD jajaja just kindding but seriously think about grab a better SD class with more than 8Gb ok... well you have the better choice. Regards from Mexico
PD. Sorry about my bad English T-T
defintely use higher class (min. class 6)... you will gain a benefit when loading/copying large amount of data. agree with above.
Class - Speed
2 - 2 MB/s
4 - 4 MB/s
6 - 6 MB/s
10- 10 MB/s

Those are the minimum speeds, the class doesn't say anything about maximum speeds. It is possible for a lower class card to reach higher speeds than a higher class card. It should not be possible for a card of a given class to go slower than the class minimum.
I had the common lag in camera recording...when I changed to samsung 32GB class 10 all went fine , that was still in froyo. I got it for only 27€ in an spanish online shop called "pccomponentes".
Great deal..3 months so far and all running well.
The Classes are the speed to write on SD, If You have a class 4 is better than 2, but maybe is more expensive.

It's a good dilema, space vs speed. As others have said if you are a gamer go for speed. If you just have music a pictures on your SD and are patient then go for size.
I got a 8GB with 10class and my phone "fly".
kingmax - price 10€
Yeah, I suggest too to choose a class 10 if you are a gamer, a lower class if you're not.
But I don't suggest you to use a SD wich is less than class 4. Class 4 for in my opinion is the lower class to consider, others are too slow even for photos. Your device may suffer of this (be very slow)
I read somewhere that class 6 card is better than class 10 for smartphones? Is it true? I was planning to buy class 10 transend or sandisk 32 gb sd card. Should I ? Anybody...

The general consensus is that Class 10 is great for what it's intended for: transferring or saving LARGE media files (recording videos or taking high-resolution digital photos).
The lower classes seem to perform better with smaller file transfers.
I have a Class 4 Sandisk 8MB card in my P970, and I'm very happy with the performance. I doubt I'd see a performance increase moving to Class 10.

i think you mean 8GB?
i have a Class 10 Samsung micro SD-Card with a space of 32GB
The difference between Class 4 and 10 is that C4 has 4MB/s write speed and class 10 10 MB/s write speed.
I would always choose a class 10. they are not so expensive and are more than twice as fast as Class 4

Here's an interesting link comparing different classes:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1150369
I have read that manufacturers have recently improved random read/write speeds on class 10 cards. Dunno. Biggest thing I see is that brand almost matters as much as class. I'd stick with Sandisk.
Enjoy, and good luck.
