Remove Disgusting Status Bar Gradient? - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am currently using Apex Launcher on my N910T and it has that ugly shadow at the top of the screen that wasn't present in the stock launcher (see attached screenshot). I have the "translucent status bar" and "hide shadows" options checked in Apex settings but that didn't work. I've tried several Xposed modules to no avail. Is it possible to rid my status bar of this grossness, or am I SOL?
I've tried going back to the TouchJizz launcher, but it keeps force closing for some reason. I've tried clearing the data for it and wiping the cache/dalvik cache in TWRP but it still won't work. I really really really don't want to reflash my ROM...

I don't know how much work you would want to do to have a normal
fully transparent status bar but the only two ways I have found to do it
are either only use the stock touchwiz launcher or......
The second way is a lot more work but doing it the second way not only
gives you a perfectly transparent status bar but it would also give you
a lot more features and options than any of the other roms.
The thing you need to do is to flash another rom called "X-Note ported rom."
Here is the link for the x-note ported custom rom in case you want to give it a try:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...-xnote-v3-0-nk4-n910w8-n910t-tmobile-t2980226
If you decide to flash this rom be sure to follow the instructions in the OP to a "T".
The x-note ported rom is what I am using and as far as I am concerned I will be
using this rom until some other developer creates an even nicer and better one
with even more features and options for us N910T users.
Good luck, have a happy merry Christmas!

X Note looks nice, but I loves me my FireKat and don't really feel like putting in the effort to set my phone up all over again. Since I can't get the TouchJizz launcher to work again I guess I'm SOL? For now I've resorted to hiding the status bar and have added a clock to the home screen so I know what time it is...

You do not need to reset your phone all over again...or flash another advertised rom.
You can dirty flash your current rom, fire, with no issue and it should take care of your stock launcher issue.
If that does not work right after flash, make sure to clear the data of the stock launcher (if you have not done so before reflash...but do it anyway)
Now if that does not work, using a root file explorer, go under system, priv app, and find something along the line of touchwiz launcher and delete the apk (since firefox, is deodex, just one apk) and dirty flash the rom again. If you do not wish to dirty flash, just extract the apk from fire and either push it under your system....or reinstall it as a normal apk (can also just do this from the very start)
Hope thats helpful ^.^

Call me lazy, but if I dirty flash it I'll have to debloat it all over again and still set up some stuff again (mostly Xposed and Greenify). I've tried extracting touchwizhome.apk it from the original zip file, moving it to system/priv-app, and setting the permissions to rw-r-r. After a reboot it just force closes. Perhaps I debloated something related to the TouchJizz launcher that I shouldn't have?
I guess I'll just wait for mega to release V8 and start over fresh and not install Apex....

That happen last time I tried fixing my fcing touchwiz.
As I have stated, you can simply delete it COMPLETELY. REboot, and install the extracted touchwiz as any normal apk. Worked for me many, many times
And yes, you are lazy lol
P.S, try freezing so when you reflash, the freeze sticks. Works 95% of the time

It was deleted completely and I've done exactly what you said. It's worked in the past for other apps I've deleted then wanted back, but TouchWiz launcher is fighting it for some reason.
I prefer to just delete them because it's easier to just go down the list in Root Explorer, select the 150 or so apps I like to delete, then just hit delete rather than uninstalling them one at a time in Titanium Backup. My phone just feels dirty leaving that crap on there....

Ah, now that just suck.
If I can remember any app that work specifically along side touchwiz launcher will let you know
P.S Did you try Nova instead of Apex? It is essentially Apex...except...better
I am not biased in any shape...or form

You can check this out that worked on Nova Launcher for me and several others.

If you want some removed apps back edit my paysscript.sh script in the zip file.
You just have to remove the lines of the apps you want to keep.
And if you want to remove even more apps feel free to add some lines more to it. You don't have to sign it
Don't try to set up a Facebook account or other SNS accounts, I removed that because there are much better clients, but still shows the option in the Setup Wizard, simply skip there. If you want to use SNS, just delete the SNS lines in paysscript.sh.
If a app FCs first check if you wiped correctly, second option go into the settings manager -> application -> and delete data of that app, try again.
If there is still a error please report.

I agree and by the way, you're welcome for using the init.d scripts on Nova. Which by the way, are broken and are not working. Unfortunately I forgot a detail and they aren't active. I'll fix it in Nova soon. You can't also use the mount one because your ROM isn't ext4. But it was a good effort anyway.
Lots of love to both of you, and those who like to spend time developing P970.

With the init.d scripts I know that they do not much atm, but I let them in for future editing else I will forget them.
They don't affect the ROM and thats why I didn't mentioned them yet in the features above.
I did not took so a close look at Nova but I saw you mentioned that you are working on a custom kernel.
Is there any progress?
Yeah great to see that more people is coming.
Just one question : do we need to flash before the 10b ?
I‘m asking that even you wrote that in the steps because Nova rom is 10a based and I flashed it directly from 11b lol.

You can try to flash directly, but do a wipe before, maybe you have to do a factory reset from the menu after flashing, too.
But this is the dirty way, tell me if this works for you.
I only guarantee for the clean and right way .
So when I flashed Nova, it was the “dirty“ way too ? Lol.
EDIT : why the symbols appear like that erf.

Atm I am on mobile on, so would be nice if someone else could upload it.
Also a mirror on someones server would be nice, my provider kills me if I host another ROM.
Very nice look and feel..
One small problem it seams that I can not connect to wireless network. (I come directly from Nova 1- clear cache, data and hard reset after reboot)
How can I get read of the player from notification bar?
As soon as i will receive money this month I will donate for you and Noejn also. You two really deserve some beers for pioneering work on this phone.

Thanks for mirror. I couldn't connect to wifi neither (Error when activating), so I tried flashing the experimental kernel from NOVA (Noejn). Wifi works great now, although I don't know the bad side of having this kernel.

Like I said, when I have more time I'll start from scratch and work on it properly.
By the way PaY87, this ROM is using the kernel I compiled for Nova correct?

[ROM][KB5-Froyo2.2] AOSP'ish-FishmanMod V1.3 (05/26/14) - Odin Image (5/25/12)

AOSP'ish-FishmanMod Rom / Odin Image in 2nd Post
This is my AOSP'ish rom. I pulled as much as I could from the Motorola Triumph Froyo 2.2.2 rom... and the rest from a few AOSP themes here and there.
Features
Froyo 2.2 KB5 Based
KB5 Modem
Bali v1.8.8uv (Voodoo enable)
Android Lock Screen (That's it)
AOSP Mms.apk
AOSP Alarm Clock
LG Launcher2 AOSP themed
Clock - am/pm hide
Lock and Unlock sound from Nexus One
Added ICS font Roboto as default
jellette S.gps.2 GPS Tweaks
Optimized images for every system app I could
Zipalign
System Tweaks
The retro Market was thrown in for the Froyo look... it will update itself.
Every Google App that can be downloaded from Google Play store was removed... if you want it... download it.
NEW:
Holy Crap..
Ok... so I hosed my LG-G2 and while waiting for a replacement I updated this. I had started working on it way back and now that I'm using my Vibrant again.... I finished it somewhat... anyway here ya go!
I know it's way outdated and no one probably cares but... it's a throwback rom...enjoy
V1.3
Added more AOSP apps and some old CM apps.
Added YouTube because can no longer download from the Store.
Updated init.d scripts.
Added the New Play Store.
Added a little better GPS fix.
Went back to Bali v1.8.8
... and some stuff I did way back and don't remember.
V1.2
Added more speed to the UI
Added more AOSP apps
Removed More Bloat
Removed Some Google apps that can be downloaded from the Play Store
Added ECOTOX DragonMOD kernel beta 3... I recommend leave it at the default settings... but you can change to your liking.
This is very fast!
V1.1
Pretty much the same as v1 just without my F#%& up, again sorry all.
Replaced Stock Music with MiUI Music
Added a few more Froyo system icons
V1
As AOSP as I could get everything for now... more info to come
Note:
If you are having any issue with keyboard mic's not working... you need to install "Google Voice Search" from the market.

Odin Image:
Here is a slimmed down ver of my AOSP in an Odin image
Like with my AOSP rom, all app that can be downloaded from the Market were removed (Gmail, Maps, Voice Search... etc)... if you want it, download it.
I highly recommend installing "Ram Manager" by Juwe11 and set it to "Balance".
I tested this on both of my Vibrant's with Odin v1.7. It worked perfectly coming back from CM7, CM9, a few Samsung GB roms and several Froyo roms.
This will bring you back to Froyo just like JFD does to stock Eclair but... with my AOSP rom. Allset, rooted and ready to go.
Odin directions:
Download and unzip. Flash with Odin just like you would JFD. Use pit 512 and make sure "Re-Partition" IS checked
On first boot it will bring you into recovery. Do a "wipe data/factory reset" then reboot. The Odin image will reset the partitions back to RFS so if you were using Voodoo ext4, it will do the partitioning convertion at the Bali splash screen. Enjoy!

Nice job, Fish! Flashed it a couple hours ago... so far seems fine. Only thing I've found is I can't get the lockscreen to work. Asked it to use the pattern, says it saved it, but no dice. That's ok for me, I hate the lockscreens anyway. If I was to have one, it would be the four-tab. Can it be pushed?
Really like the white notification bar.

[ROM] Ouya Plus

This is something I have wanted to do since we figured out how to flash CWM Recovery, it just took me a while to get it working right.
This is not an AOSP Rom, so don't expect a lot, it's just a flashable package that adds some stuff that the Ouya is missing. This is based on the Ouya 264 r1 software.
Changes from stock:
-Added apks - Busybox, Dropbox (should include a free 50gb upgrade), ES File Explorer, Nova Launcher, Pandora, Google Play Music, Superuser, Titanium Backup, and Youtube for Google TV
-Removed Kernel and Recovery flash from the installer
Bugs I have run into:
-OTA updates will still download and install. This will be fixed before the first stable release.
Instructions (shamelessly stolen from mybook4):
-You need CWM Recovery installed to flash this
-Do a backup in CWM before flashing (seriously, you'll have something to go back to if things go awry)
-Wipe cache
-Wipe dalvik cache
-Data wipe is optional, and comes with it's own set of instructions
This is a beta ROM, and I have spent a few hours in testing, but nothing can be fully tested by one individual. It is a flash at your own risk ROM. Don't flash it if you are afraid to break something. Please provide me any feedback or suggestions you have.
I wanted to include Hulu Plus and Netflix, but they don't like being flashed, so I'll add easy download links later. so you can sideload them yourselves, I'm about to head to dinner.
If you do wipe data I recommend for ease of setup that when it asks you which launcher you want to use on first boot, choose Ouya launcher then "only once" and run through the initial setup till you're at the main Ouya launcher screen. then hold down the "Ouya" button in the middle of the controller to simulate the "home" key, and choose Nova Launcher and "always". Enjoy!!
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7653846/OuyaPlusB6.zip
cool, if i actually manage to get CWM installed i may give this a try.
How much of a difference is there between this and ChickenStock?
It's similar in that it's a stock based ROM, but Chickenstock is meant to be disaster recovery, a solid base for rom building, or an easy flash to add superuser permissions to the console, but keep the focus on the Ouya experience. I designed Ouya Plus to be a quick flash for people who want to add some additional functionality to their Ouya, to make it do more than the limited minds that designed it intended. This is an Android console, and every media application you could ever want is available for android, so why should we be denied pandora or netflix, just because the Ouya people want to lock down their "console" to only allow things bought off of their store to work?
I wanted to make an easy way to add extra media functionality and system tools to the Ouya, without everyone having to track down and sideload the .apks themselves. I'm working on an easy way to install some of the other apks that i've been having issues with, and I also want to Deodex this rom so that custom themes can be applied, but I've run into trouble every time I've tried to use an automatic tool, so I'm going to try the last one I know of (xultimate) on it, and then I'll resign myself to deodexing each app manually and see what happens.
how exactly do you flash this to ouya?. I installed cwm recovery.
Once CWM is running, copy the zip to your internal storage, use adb or rom manager to reboot into recovery. The choose "install zip from sdcard", select the zip file from it's location, and it'll flash, then just reboot.
Installed and loving it , thx to the OP.

Nice
Installed via CWM - all working well but controlling some of the apps is a nightmare!
I've got RomToolbox Pro installed and it makes roobooting easier. I also installed MX pro but I can't get any control at all!

That's cool but how is that possible? And is it 50gb for 2 years?
Sent from my GT-I9300
Probably the SGS3 version of the Dropbox APK or something similar. If it is, then it's version 1.0 of the Dropbox, so it doesn't do well with mobile authentication, but if you disable that for 5 minutes, the 2 year (24 month officially, I believe) upgrade is probably worth the relatively minimal security risk.
Thank you
I managed to install your ROM and so far I am enjoying it very much. I do want to let others know about my experience in dirty flashing this ROM. I wiped cache and Dalvik cache, but did not do a full wipe before flashing.
On the first boot i got a flood of force closures on the OUYA Launcher process. It almost made the system unusable as a new one came up as soon as i acknowledged the previous. After about a minute of this they started to ease up a bit and i could operate Android with around 1-2 force closes every minute. I went to settings->apps->All-> Ouya Launcher->Clear Data.
This immediately stopped the force close errors and the OUYA launcher still works.
Aside from this the only other observation i have is that the on screen pointer for my wireless mouse feels "smoother" than out of the box.
Ohh and thanks for the 50GB dropbox upgrade.
Okay, maybe i didn't notice at home last night because i was on Ethernet, but i took my OUYA to a different location with no Ethernet and realized that my wifi will not initialize.

This sounds great! I'll be sure to try it as soon as I get the balls up to install CWM on it. It's kinda been sitting there gathering dust at the moment as I haven't been that inspired.
Anyone flashes this while on the latest ouya fw?

Did you ever get a deodexing method working (I see ouyaplusb6.zip is still odexed... as is the 328 OTA), I was reading somewhere that an odexed rom causes issues porting, so I want to get my hands on a deodexed OTA to use as a base.

Working on it now... Hope to have it done this afternoon if anyone wants it.
Sorry guys, I've been pretty lazy on this front since getting back from my 2 week business trip, but I may get a chance to work on a new version tomorrow evening. MasterZen88 if you can get the latest OTA to deodex that would be awesome, and I'll update Ouya Plus to use it as the base, with your permission.

Looks like you were right, each app will have to be manually deodexed. No worries. I've created a script to do this so hope to have it done soon.....

I was looking forward to trying this, but the wifi isn't initializing.

[MOD][JB 4.3][TX - 9.2.A.1.205] Blue Neon Theme

Hi all, this is a mod i started making for my own device, and decided to share it.
It is based on the files contained in the deodexed ROM I uploaded here, which is in turn based on the FTF uploaded by @Leo here.

More screenshots:
Even though I do delete/disable most system apps I don't use, there are some that I don't consider bloatware (although don't necessarily use) and I leave installed, which I have also modded since after changing the system framework they would look wrong/weird, and which are also included here, in case anyone uses them.
This is not a "theme" which you install and manage through the Theme section of settings. This is a modded framework and apps which, once flashed, will replace your current framework and the apps included. It mods the entire framework, which will change the aspect of certain apps that rely on system default themes. Even though I have tried to check and correct every visual flaw, there might be certain apps that might have visual inconsistencies. If you find any, please let me know.
Also, since this is a "blue" colored mod, it will look best with a blue theme, such as Air or Xperia. I personally don't use themes, and leave it on the default "Xperia" theme. The apps packaged in the zip file will not change if you change the default Theme, they are hardcoded to use the color I've used for this mod. If you have and use other apps that change depending on the theme, then you would probably want to use any of the two themes mentioned above.
I would have preferred to make this into an actual installable theme APK file, but haven't found a way to actually compile asset files while using a modded "styles.xml" file, since this mod doesn't just replace PNG files. Anyway...
Apps contained in this mod:
Calculator
Calendar
Messaging
Contacts/Phonebook
Dialer
Settings
SystemUI
Xperia Home Launcher
Clock
Package Installer*
*Fixed the visual bug with the app title dropping over the divider line, so no need for the "Fix Sony Bugs" Xposed module
Custom Features:
Transparent gradient status bar/navigation bar when on Xperia Apps, or windows identified as having being able to use a "transparent background" for status bar and navigation bar
5 button symmetric navigation bar with custom icons. You need Gravity Box, (or similar app) to force the left-most menu button to always be visible, and I use GB to reassign the key commands as so:
Double tap Menu key to turn screen off, and long press it to bring up the Power Menu; reassign the the "Recent apps" button so that it behaves as a "Back" button, and enable the "Menu" button to always be visible, that you way you have the exact same layout on both sides, so you can use it with one hand either from the left or the right. Then I make the "Recent apps" list appear when double tapping/long pressing the "Home" key.

Default button placement is, from left to right: "Recent Apps, Home, Back, Menu".

Installation notes:
Even though this is intended to be used with a modded services.jar, which can be done manually following this guide, I have also attached a "signed" version, which might work with a non-modded ROM. I can't confirm this for a fact because I haven't taken the time to restore the unmodded services.jar, but it worked fine on my modded ROM. Anyone one who wants to try it out can do so at their own risk (as if anything seriously bad could really happen) . Attached is my modded "superuser.jar".
Installation:
.- Make a backup (obviously)
.- Flash modded "services.jar" file, or patch it yourself.
.- Flash AP_NeonFrameworkMod.zip
.- Wipe cache (optional, but recommended)
.- Reboot

*People who want to try the theme and haven't modded or flashed the "services.jar" file, you can use this file, which has signed apps. Once again, I do not take responsibility if apps force close and you don't know how to restore your default framework/apps.
The status bar and navigation bar icons seen in my screenshots have been modded used Gravity Box (xposed module); The wallpapers are also attached which match the default background used as the default background: a scrollable wallpaper for people who like a scrolling wallpaper, and another one for those who don't.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for your phone not booting up due to changes you have made to the default state of your ROM

HINT: In the event that you would want go back to your default ROM state without having to restore an entire backup, you can simply extract the apps listed above from your ROM before flashing, or extract them from the zip/FTF you used to flash your ROM, use them to replace the ones in the zip file using 7zip, and then flash that file.

All you'd need to do is use 7zip to open the same file you flashed, and replace the apk files contained in system/app with the ones from your original ROM, as well as replace the "framework-res.apk" from the system/framework folder.

Are you able to to get to the Google Now panel by swiping right? The way I read the XDA article about this release of the launcher, as long as you are on a Pixel or Nexus device, root is not required (even though I have root) and it is not required to be installed as a system app.
Quote from the XDA article:
"All you have to do is download the Pixel Launcher that we uploaded below and install it onto your device. It doesn’t need to be installed onto the system partition (meaning it doesn’t need root), and if you already have the Pixel Launcher installed then it will just install right on top of it. Enjoy!"
I have tried installing the new launcher over the older one I had installed and doing a clean install of the the new .apk you referenced and the .apk referenced in the XDA article and I cannot get swipe to the right to take me to the Google Now panel. The calendar/weather widget is working fine so I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. Any ideas?

I think XDA post means that Pixel 2 launcher itself doesn't require root to work, but the google now feature still need root access.

Thanks for your response. Some additional research I did (which I won't bore everyone with for such a small issue) also seems to indicate that Google Now will work with the new Pixel Launcher without it being installed as a system app. If it ends up that it does need to be installed as a System app I'm going to switch back to Launcher3, which lets Google Now work without Launcher3 being installed as a System app, and it has some other nice features.

I saw that earlier, I really don't want to do a bunch of work arounds. If I get no other by the time I wake up tomorrow afternoon I'm going back to launcher3. It worked perfectly for me without modifications and I have it backed up with Titanium Backup so it's just I simple restore to get back to where I was. Thanks.
Seems to work out of the box with version 1.2. No work arounds required

Absolutely, Launcher3 version 2.1 works great but I have seen some decreased battery life using it. I like the new calendar/weather widget and the bottom search bar in the new Pixel launcher from the Pixel 2 so that is why I switched. Both of those work great after I installed the new Pixel launcher and my battery life increased quite dramatically, but I can't get swipe right to access the Google Now panel to work. From the XDA article here, the way I read it is if you have a Pixel or Nexus phone the .apk does not have to be installed as a system app for the Google Now panel to work:
"We should note that the Google Now panel will not work if you install the official version below on a non-Google Nexus or Pixel device as the Pixel Launcher needs to be installed as a system app in order for it to show the Google Now panel"
It indicates the same in the install instructions:
"It doesn’t need to be installed onto the system partition (meaning it doesn’t need root)"
There is a modded version that allows the Google Now panel to work on non Pixel and Nexus devises but I have a Nexus so I don't think I should need to use the modded version:
"Alternatively, you can install this modified version of the Google Pixel Launcher by XDA Senior Member paphonb. His version works on non-Google devices and allows you to use the Google Now panel"
Maybe I am just reading it incorrectly but it reads that the unmodified version will allow swipe right to access the Google Now panel.

I use Magisk for root. Do you know if making it a system app with Titanium Backup will mess up passing the SafetyNet check?

I converted it to a system app using Titanium Backup and it doesn't appear to have affected the SafetyNet status. If Launcher3 is updated to include the calendar/weather widget and the bottom search bar I'll probably switch back as I like some of the other features it offers.
I actually just found that there is a Magisk module called "App Systemizer" that would have probably done what you where looking for also.
guys there is a link to the newest google wallpapers.on this youtube video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97-4GjMzOgw
i installed them and it fixed the white "G" in the search bar to the multicolored one.
it looks amazing

Wrong times in Now Cards
Hello everyone. The application is installed as a system. Everything works as well, except for the time of the sports cards. Shows my upcoming games with a wrong time zone, not my local time. This happens only on the preview of the football match itself (shows 2:45 PM). When clicking on the card with the additional information, the correct time is displayed (in this case 21:45). See attached images.
Where to search for the problem - in Pixel Launcher, in Google App, or my account? If it matters, I delete the data of both apps and set them up again without success ...
By returning an old version of Pixel Launcher this problem is gone.
What is the best way to get the Pixel bottom Navbar? I see a lot of screenshots with the Pixel Navbar. I'm running Pixel 2 Launcher, rooted.
Highly the final version !!! I prefer to stay for the moment on MOKEE
