Hi all,
So I've been around for years and have rooted/rommed everything for OG droid to my nexus 7. This seems a bit different though so I just wanted to clarify order of operations:
1. Unbox and charge.
2. Take OTA updates
3. Unlock using the apk
4. Fastboot CWM in (i'm seeing different versions on different places but i am hearing stability issues)
5. Flash that new 4.3 rooted rom if i want it?
Or perhaps ignoring the ROM (no offense)
4. Root the device
5. Flash either the US or WW firmware. I'm not sure which I want though most people are mentioning WW.
5. Wait for a kitkat rom.
I'm not sure why i find this device more confusing but maybe it's just the long list of files on asus's site. Genrally all i want is an unlocked/rooted device until kk is available.

You got it right with your first scenario.
Latest CWM version is 6.04.6 and I have not heard of any problems with it.
sbdags rooted stock rom may be a nice interim while you wait for him to release the first CROMi-X version for the TF701. Won't be long - knowing him, max a week
pershoot is working on a CM rom and my guess is that would be kitkat. He posted today: "Won't be long"
There are different stock firmware versions for different parts of the globe (called SKU): US is north America, TW = Taiwan, WW = Europe etc.
step 1-5 works

Looks like Amazon has stopped selling the dock until only the working version is being sold. Black eye for Asus on a crappy dock. I'll get it for the battery eventually.

Ordered just the tablet though... I'll give them a couple of months to sort out the mess they created.....

Well I'm now unlocked at rooted (using the simple root flash technique). I'm a little hesitant to install a 4.3 rom though I may try it. I may just hold out for kk from CM, carbon or cromi once it's out But to be honest coming from a non-asus background i've never heard of cromi so maybe i just need to crack flash it

C-ROM-I comes from CleanROM. I inherited the project from scrossler who maintains the CleanROM series on other devices. Anyway I originally called it CleanROM Inheritance as I couldn't think of anything better. This got quickly known as CROMI for short. I developed it to work on the TF700/TF300/TF201 and Asus Nexus 7 series. All was well and then Asus released their 4.2 update for the TF300 first. I wanted to keep the old CROMI project for TF700 users but wanted to start something new so CleanROM Inheritance - xenogenesis was born as CROMi-X for short became a mix of TF300 and TF700 firmware updates as Asus released them and also incorporated TF300TG and the newer ME301T device firmwares as well
Now it's a pretty well known brand in Asus world it would seem Oh and we also have the younger brother miniC (ala mini-me from Dr Evil fame) which is the very lite version of CROMi-X which was a bit of a mouthful saying mini-CROMi-X so miniC was born

Oh I'm sorry about that, no disrespect intended I hangout/work with the OSE developers and we were all just stumped on what this was. So what's the story with kitkat development on the 701? A huge annoyance with the tegra hardware? Now I'm MUCH more inclined to throw CleanRom (derivative) on my tablet. I need to find any rom that can handle the battery usage of such a huge screen.
Anyhow, Sorry about that, didn't mean to sound belittling.. I've just been in the moto/samsung/nexus world You'd think the Nexus 7 world would have tipped me off to CROMI but i stuck to most of the stuff the gang was working on.

Looks like Samsung is getting ready to update the beast as soon as Google unveils Android L to public and has started internal testing. Do watch the video preview and visit source for more info. Sorry for no download links as its very buggy and unstable currently
Well, IMHO, I can't see a big difference, but thats because of TW
I like the animations, wonder why the statusbar isn't changing color like the action bar (probably a bug)
More excited for the roms to come.

Just a video. Very buggy and laggy atm.
I've never had strong feelings about TW one way or the other, but that may be because I just picked up my first Samsung phone a few months ago. I'm really looking forward to seeing the changes in L.

They probably will..... 8 months from now....but I'll be right there with you bro in the nexus 6 forums I just can't wait that long if I already waited so long for aosp on this phone, I just gotta see the phone in person, I never really liked the note series due to its massive size, but if It feels comfortable in the hand I will definitely make the jump, if not nexus 5... S5 had so much potential to be a better phone but with all these damn bugs (battery drainage on idle, audio issues when recording a video, choppy video for 1080p, whatsapp mic still sounds too low)...and Samsung not releasing the right source codes this phone was a disaster... Nothing compared to the s4 forums... *sigh's*

I'm just bothered that all this waiting is always for nothing, and we paid a valued amount for a great spec'd phone but we can't get the best out of it, for f$!# sake is processor (801) is newer than the nexus 5 (800 chip) but the N5 is faster. ..WTF!!! so the reason they feed us this crap is because we are OK with it, so Samsung just keeps screwing us in the a$$ cold, how we pay more for a phone that isn't better than a nexus, and it could of all been better without that TW S!#/ they put in there.... but... we're OK with it... right? Because it's just a phone... right?
That's not the case with nexus phones because they rooooock!!!!! Plus it's made by a younger generation (google)
i find the s5 on touchwiz fine. some apps i personally dont like the look of so i replace with stock kitkat ones. but i dont have any slowdown
I don't like TW eighter, but to sell my phone for it ? Don't think so....
I just installed Go Launcher Ex (my favorite launcher for years already) and remove all the bloatware with Titanium Backup which I don't need or want.
Result : clean rom to my likings

Audio issues still persist (low audio on what's app voice messages, and low audio when recording a video) along with battery drainage when idle, wish it was that simple bro.....

So why did you buy an S5 if you knew you hated TouchWiz and the "lag" (I don't even have any lag on my S5, and my last phone was a Nexus).

protip: Open S voice, go to settings, disable home activation, disable S voice. Congratulations. You have the smoothness of an AOSP ROM without the stupid bugs.

Got a Note 3 with close to stock ROM. Modding it made it feel and look really not like TouchWiz. No lag, no s**t.
Imagine the Google Launcher when it gets L updated.
Imagine what Wanam's wonders are going to look like after he gets hold on L TouchWiz.
Also, reports claim that even the dev preview of L gets better battery life on the Nexus 5, so AOSP is going to be even better.
Calm your whatevers-that-make-you-mad and be happy that you have first world problems.

Yes, I'm hoping more developers will switch to this device and will start working on booting and running CM as smooth as possible. I just ordered my note 4 yesterday, I still have to wait 2 weeks to receive my device (I don't live in a snapdragon country), hoping to work together with some other devs but if not, going to give booting CM myself a try and will update and report here for sure !
I'm new to the Note line so I have a question. Does the S-Pen work (just work, non of the fancy features) with custom Roms or do devs need to optimize it?
I would love to see it running Lollipop.

The spen will work on any rom but samsung specific apps like snote will only work on samsung based roms. On cm based roms there are alternative apps like papyrus and on the note 2 there were specific spen apps made for cm roms so guess the same thing will probably happen on the n4

Sorry but I really miss your point man. This is development and most importantly, this is Snapdragon: this thread has really not much to do with Exynos (which most likely will never even run CM12, at least not in the next year), so I really don't see in which forum it would be more ontopic than this one. If you disagree, let me know in which forum you feel it should be posted in and why and if it makes sense, I'll ask the mod, but again, I really don't see it.

I've done quite a bit of work on the i9500, Ironing out bugs by reverse engineering stock ROM and my goal is to make CM12 on our Note 4 the best Cyanogenmod experience so far ! Man, really cant wait !
I just got mine yeaterday im super excited. I'm really surprised how steady it feels in hands. It doesn't feel like a Samsung device at all. My babe is already rooted and unlocked just waiting on lollipop

What I never understoodbis why DPI is so freaking high. Looks incredibly ugly. Set mine to 480.

Pointless thread in developer forum. Can't wait to see this closed. What is become of xda that anyone can post what he likes and where he wants.
I'm wondering if there's any aosp roms in development for the note been eagerly waiting for like a cm 12 rom or something but nothing yet. I'm seeing the galaxy s4,5 and note 3 getting their cm 12 roms so maybe the note 4 one soon comes?
Practically every device has it except us.
Developers are waiting until we get the Official 5.0 update to do any CM, AOSP, etc.
Aosp is booting on our device already. Its being fine tuned. Soon

As far as I know there aren't any threads. Slayher posted images of Lollipop running on the Note 4 a few weeks ago on Google+.

I have a oneplus one right now... A little afraid to leave it behind and go to the note 4. I love having CM12 or AOSP on my phone... Don't know if I can go to touchwiz. lol!
I would love to say is jump on it but as always I'm sure the camera will be total crap as always. Absolutely kills the photo quality

And of course camera will just be basic, it's just the point of having the option to flash it is what I dig about samsung. I'm the minority Samsung fanboy, but doesn't mean I don't like some cm or aosp based Roms just to mix it up.
Ok - I'm not a big camera guy anyway... But it's a toss up between this or a nexus 6... But I love having a removable battery... The 1+1 just isn't cutting it for me right now...
I would like to express myself. This was my 2nd Android device and Nexus device and I haven't looked back since. The best at the time of release, and was able to use it till now, even got to use Nougat on it via custom ROMs. Huge thanks to the developer who are keep making it better with the every release of new OS and porting it for it. Special thanks to @ganachoco @sykopompos @snak3ater @spezi77 and all the others too. Sorry if I forgot somebody. I wanted to buy the 6P but due to some reasons it got postponed then Google release the Pixel and I've been eyeing it for a while, the XL model because I am using N4 for a long time and need a bigger phone. My Nexus 4's performance not good, obviously it can be better with some tweaks but I left that tweaking side of me. Also battery life became poor, the camera had more noise than usual.
So that's it for me, I would like to say goodbye and thank you. See you all on the other side (Pixel forums).

Yes, really enjoyed the Nexus 4. For me, this is still the best looking Nexus. Can't wait to get my Pixel XL tomorrow! :silly:

N4 was my first smartphone too, although not my first Android device, which was an Acer Iconia A100.
