(Q) Dump a ROM - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any way to dump a 8.1 rom off of a phone? Looking to get at the registry (all of it)

Hi,
Not that I know.
But you can e.g dump a 8.1 Nokia ROM findable on Nokia Care servers.
By cons, you can view the registry directly on phone, in installing WebServer Native Access xap.

where is the windows dir ?

hi there,
i just wondered where i can find the windows directory.
its not on the first disk and not on the internal disk.
i wanted to know if i loose my "original bought" windows version, when i flash a system rom like aztor or something.
what happens when i flash a newer original htc rom from the htc site like 2.03, is windows included in the updated rom file ?
so i just bought a "license" for windows mobile 6.1 prof. ?
thanks for a fast answer (before flashing a rom)!
raY
the windows dir should be located on the main memeory, not the internal memory.
when you flash a new rom you will looose everything currently on the device, and it will install a new version of windows, you done need to buy anything, and if it does not work, you can get the origional rom back and install that again. although this will not bring back your files etc.

[Q] Nokia Camera for Samsung Ativ S

Hi, i sucessfully downloaded the new Nokia camera App to my Interupt unlocked Samsung Ativ S but when i open the app after the intro it close automatik. I've uploaded it from the phone onto my skydrive account here: h**p://sdrv.ms/19IbVXF
Maybe somebody can help to rebuild this xap so that we can use it also with devices with a different screenresolution.
Thanks in advance.
and dont forget: missing of nokia drivers
Drivers
How can we upload these .dlls to our Ativ S?
Is it possible?
Don't they, drivers, reside in firmware?
I believe it had hooks to some other Nokia stuff. Whether that includes needing extras+info or attached to the physical drivers, I don't know... I'll have to read the decompiled code again.

I believe this can be grabbed via USB juice jacking?
In any case, installing drivers would require high-privilege writes to both the file system and registry, or other higher privileges than apps are allowed to have in order to install a driver using the official APIs. It's not currently possible at all.

[Q] Where are the backup files on OneDrive ??

HI all
Just a question.
My Samsung Ativ S makes auto backups to OneDrive.
Can we access these files ? Where can i download them ?
I allready tried something with Fiddler but did not see an URL to download or view these files.
What i want to try is to edit/view these files.
Many thanks in advance
M
I'm assuming you mean the backup option in the settings, not the auto upload of photos. I dont think we can access them, IIRC, they are solely for restoring your data onto another device and we dont get to touch it ourselves as of now.

[Q] View Windows Phone 8.1 System Files

Hi,
Does anyone know if it is possible to view the file system of a Windows Phone 8.1 device? I have a phone that is developer unlocked and would like to the file structure of the device or access files that are hidden away from the user. I can see the downloads, music, photos etc using the new Nokia/Microsoft Files app, but can not get into something like the windows phone equivelent to C:\Users\xxx\AppData.
I came across this post on the forums which is an xap file for allowing browsing over a network (converts phone to a webserver) but could not deploy to Win Phone 8.1 using the deployment tools due to the file having a missing manifest - I suspect it works for Win Phone 8 rather than 8.1.
Are there any native tools in the Visual Studio environment to browse the device on a dev unlocked device?
Many thanks,
Simon

Thanks anaheiim, I managed to sucessfully deploy the WebAccess_0_5_0.xap but not the AllCapabiliities version which is what I had tried before. I was hoping to be able to access the Win8 desktop equivelent to:-
C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Packages
Do you happen to know if that is possible?
Many thanks,
Simon

Yes, you can not deploy AllCap, because you are not Interop-Unlock, etc... only the ativ s allow.
You only have access to C:\Windows\... (It seems to me), that is why I said it was limited.

You can also download any Nokia Lumia FFU and use the imgMount too to convert the ffu into a vhd file. Then you can just mount the vhd file on your PC and browse away!

Nice work, I appreciate it!

Actually, this member did post his results, just not in this thread. No need to have a go at him either way. And please don't resurrect threads that are clearly dead just to troll. Thanks.

No way of interop-Unlocking with Capabilities on 8.1 for Adblocking anymore?

All I ever wanted was to use an Adblocker for my Lumias similar to what Adaway does on my Nook HD+ tablets with CM11; therefore, I followed the download MixRadio from the store, and move it to SD card approach to Interop-unlock my Lumia 521 & 640; I was successful in executing the CustomWPSystem_0601.xap & vcREG_MIX_RADIO_bootstrap.xap which gave the Lumia Registry Editor, WPSystem Folders, etc. and (Supposed Interop-Unlock through the template settings); it's obviously not unlocked since I can't deploy AdBlocker_modded.xap (Adblocker hack which I found on this forum: [XAP] AdBlocker For Windows Phone 8.x+) without getting an "Error - 0x81030120" with the SDK 8.1 Deployment tool all the time. Is it no longer working? Is my computer bad? Am I not doing it correctly? If somebody can clarify a few things for me, that would be really cool. Thanks.
