Changing firmware? - Samsung Gear 2 Neo

Hi!
Was just about to try and root my Gear 2 Neo, I noticed my firmware is r381xxu0bnl2 rather than NE5.
Is there anyway that I can downgrade?
Don't wanna try just flashing the firmware incase it bricks etc.
Any help is appreciated..
Thanks.

Download the Odin file from Samfirmware.com for the NE5 firmware and just flash it back down with Odin.
Or there are links here: LINK
Then do the root, cant guarantee the root will work with the bnl2 version.
It may be worth trying the root, if it screws up the system you can always flash the firmware from Odin again, its quite hard to brick Samsung devices unless you mess with the bootloader.

I noticed that the release countries were quite patchy, judging by the way Samsung phones work I dont think you will find a problem flashing a Canadian or UK rom on your watch so long as the model (sm-r381) matches the firmware you find to update it to. I believe all the Gear 2 neo's are all the same hardware so flashing it with other roms of the same model should be ok.
Btw I am running the Polish 5.0 rom on my galaxy s5 and have had no problems. So running a Canadian version on a US watch should be fine, so long as you dont mind the rom being made for the same country justin bieber came from.:laugh::laugh:

Man, that was below the belt
The risk of flashing a Canadian ROM is that the only notifications are for hockey scores :highfive:
Just kidding....I'm in Canada but still pondering if I should upgrade....as I posted elsewhere on XDA, I have ZERO problems with BNE5 and Note3. Even the battery is amazing (10-15%/day for light use)

reply same here. ill mess you up even more. im on BNE5 for that watch and NH7 for my note 3. now we have a NL2 for the watch and a NK4 for the note 3. im staying put where i am till i see a rooted with kernels and i see a tiezenmod for the watch. lol everything works. im not sacrificing root or o.c just yet.

So has anyone downgraded back to ne5 from nl2?
Edit_____
I was able to flash tiezen mod 3 over nl2 no issues.

Ok, you can flash the old firmware but:
1-won'th the phone answer to upgrade?
2-Will you lose the new firmware feature (maybe battery things or so?)
Will try to root NL2...finger crossed...

That's what my planatronics legend is for lol. I gave up a long time ago on using watch as hands free.

{Q} Anyone else just tired of the BS brick situation?

I sometimes feel like just getting rid of it...Ever since the leak kernel came out and people bricking their Note..now I am afraid to flash and do something wrong...I am sure just flash with abyss kernel will not brick it..but getting to flash a stock ICS is a pain period.
count me IN. hate all this BS
they say the europe ICS is being patched and hopefully to release soon(just a rumor)

motorola atrix 4g. was with gingerbread though, not ICS. if you flash/update to official gingerbread, flashing back to 2.2.2 would result in a hard brick. flashing to a different version of official gingerbread would also result in a hardbrick.
i took my phone to a service center, told them that they should avoid flashing my phone unless they wanted to replace it for me. they flashed the australian firmware over the original AT&T firmware, and bricked my device. they ended up having to buy me a new atrix.
What brick BS are you talking about (I have an AT&T) Note are you talking about the international version? I rooted my phone and installed a very nice ICS 4.0.4 ROM? I used the same type methods as all the other Galaxy roots and flashing.

I have the atrix in my arsenal. I hard bricked by Atrix with the whole SBF flash thing. Contacted motorola and told them it was an official update that did it. So, I sent it back to them and it took them several weeks but I finally got it back with another motherboard.

This is the international Note forum, so yes we are talking about the international Note NOT the ATT Note. And as far as we know right now, the ATT note is safe from bricks. Now, before you mess up your phone, you can go back to the ATT Note forum now and flash YOUR ROMs.

The only way to MAYBE flash ROMS is still in ALPHA testing and it is not a true flash but a way to load ROMS and fake the boot system.
Currently there is no way to flash ROMS to this phone.

From what i saw in the thread about safe strap the ROMS have to be tweaked to work with safestrap so only ROMS developed around safestrap will work.. Even then it is still iffy if they will fully work.

Solarenemy68's reply seemed easy to understand to me. Are you having difficulty understanding it? In case you did not understand it...you can NOT flash ANY rom on the att N3. None. Zip. Nadda. Nothing. The bootloader is locked. Without an unlocked bootloader, you are not currently able to flash a new rom. If you do, you will brick your N3. Period.
If you want to flash new roms on a N3, you should have purchased a T-Mo N3 as that bootloader was not locked.
I hope this clarifies things for you.

Wow! Bad day at work?
We can flash roms using safe strap recovery by @Hashcode . It works fine and even gives you "multi boot" that most devices would die for!
Roms are coming already and things are getting good. International roms can be ported. T-Mobile roms run without much of a fuss.
We CANNOT flash bootloader, kernels, or modems. But with a locked bootloader this is about as good as it gets.
If your going to give someone information, at least give them correct information.

Didn't have a bad day. Didn't intend to sound rude. Your signature indicates that you have a N9005 not a N900A. If I am mistaken, please correct me. I've had a N900A since launch day and have been following the development quite closely, I thought. While the N9005 and the N900T have unlocked bootloaders, I have not seen anything other than alpha testing for the N900A, and @Hashcode has not yet released Safestrap for the N900A.
Please post some links for loading roms onto the N900A, or apologize as it is you that seems to be providing the incorrect information that can potentially damage someone's device. If you are correct about SAFELY flashing roms onto the n900A, I will post an apology to you and the OP.
Thank you.

ODIN flashing ANK4 on Canadian NJ3 baseband...?

Can this be done? I have ODIN flashed Canadian Sammobile firmware on the NOTE 4 but I want to know if I use the TMOBILE firmware with the different baseband ANK4.
Would this screw up something? Or can I just revert back to NJ3 incase it does not work.
Thanks

Odin wouldn't let me. I guess I can't do it.
If I was in your position, I'd be wiping the sweat off my head right now, lol.
Flashing is risky, but as long as you have the right combination of model, kernel, and recovery, and ROM on hand, you'll be fine.
Not sure what works on your Note 4 model as its Canadian-specific. The international Note 4's usually have more versatility and flexibility in terms of Rooted-ROM's availability.
I'm using the T-Mobile model, development is fairly acceptable.

Yeah, I just spent the past 3 days looking into rooting my new S6.
I got it barely a week ago and I was really excited to finally have a phone I could root, only to learn that I got the first new phone that you can't. I might have had a chance to keep 5.0.2? Whatever, but by the time I synced by Google account, I found out I had the 5.1.1 version, with no way to go back.
More experienced users, please correct me here. I am largely posting this to consolidate what I've gathered.
As I understand it, 5.1.1 prevents a clean downgrade to any other Android OS by just not allowing the option.
When I went to turn off automatic software updates, I was faced with an option to check for updates, or go "take a hike" per se. It seems like you may be able to flash a version that can be rooted for the AT&T version (G920A), but you trip the KNOX security thing which will void your warranty. From what I can see, a lot of people are just deciding to go without root, or go without the phone. I have seen a thread or 2 (out of DOZENS on this) that say methods may be in the works, but everyone seems too afraid to try anything.
Keep in mind that I say methods for a reason. Nothing seems to be cut and dry for us as AT&T users to begin with, but this 5.1.1 update when downloaded OTA and all legit and whatnot is a real death sentence for those looking to root.
I'm keeping my eyes and ears open for news, but we're going to have a while to wait before we get to join the fun.

Not sure how this can be made any more clear. We have a thorough and two very simple explanations on the entire one page of this thread so far. I'm not trying to police it, but when I get updates for the thread, I'm hoping for something a little bit beyond the already answered questions yo.
I can only imagine devs are working on a miracle of sorts to change this fact, but it remains a fact until some magic solution is both discovered AND verified as far as I'm concerned.
jinishpv, I think you mean you compiled the .img file to Windows..? If so, MagicISO is a Windows app you can use to add, delete, extract or update files contained in an .img file. I hear what all of you are saying about 5.1.1 bootloader, and yes I'm in the same boat w/ safestrap rooted still on 5.02 of4, but jinishpv asked a tangent question and I didn't think it would hurt to help a fellow xda member out.
Any updates on this besides the private root being sold all over the web for $100-$120 each or $30 -$40 for remote unlock for G920A, G925A, G928A and G890A?
The good news thatotherguy.. found a way to root s6 and s6 edge. the bad news it is unstable. He's working on it with other devs. I'm assuming he/they will release it after the release after GS7 (to check if GS7 is vulnerable too?)
My G920A is working fine so far rooted on 5.1.1 OJ7 (yes I paid $40 for remote unlock LOL).

Are people working on cracking the AT&T G870A or is it a lost cause?

Are people still working on cracking the AT&T G870A or is it a lost cause?
If yes, how's it going?
I had a G870F but sent it swimming on 20m deep for three weeks. Needless to say it didn't survive.
Found the G870A and thought it was a bargain, however . . .
Pretty much a lost cause, most devs have moved on.
So the answer is not so straight forward. The current v 5.1 and above for the AT&T phones are not currently rootable. If you find a used or remanufactured S5 or S5 Active with 4.2 you will be in luck. I just had a problem with my Active found a replacement on the most popular buying and selling web site for around $230. Just make sure it has not been updated. If the seller is advertising it as 4.2 and you get it with 5.0 they must take it back if it's not what was advertised. Hope this helps.
If you want an S5 to tinker with you should get a tmobile variant the SM-G900T, or the international SM-G900M since the active model is basically a carrier exclusive they dont have any international ones that im aware of.
I dont understand the question of OP
I used a popular search and found rooted firmwares for the 870A.
Several people who replied have in their sigs that they have a rooted s5 Active..... I would think that to mean the phone has been "cracked" and isn't a lost cause.

so its isn't the android version per say bu the bootloader that comes with it?
So one couldn't just flash a 5.0 firmware, is that what you're also saying?
pardon my ignorance, but when one flashes a firmware -- that wont impact the bootloader will it...

When you update the firmware, it automatically updates the bootloader. Once that bootloader has been updated, it's locked down. No downgrading firmwares, rooting, or installing custom recoveries.

Yeah, that's basically what I gathered after a lot of research online.
Some claim it can be done but when trying the method/software, it doesn't work.
I just wanted to double check since there is a lot of expert knowledge in this forum.
One thing i've been thinking though (not that I can do it): how about picking the phone apart
and wiping/replacing the bootloader manually?

Well it's soldered to the board. You would need some highly specialized equipment to do it. Even then I'm not sure.

Is this the case with both the G900A and the G870A. I'm in the market for either one since they are going for just of $200 new on Ebay. Are both phones now locked down of is the Active more problematic?
Both are locked down. AT&T and Samsung are being jerks to us and not even letting us have a developer phone to try to use like Verizon had.

If you are looking to root, then buy one that still has Android v4.4.2. They are available you just have to look for them. Don't put the SIM card in until you root or it will auto update and you can't go back.

Hi Sgt.CM,
I got my AT&T S5 on release day and never updated it. I have a SM-G900A with Android version 4.4.2! Is it possible for me to put CM13 with marshmallow 6.0.1 on there? I had assumed it was impossible...
Thanks,
Frozen

Nope can't because of locked bootloader. The best thing you could do is too root with towelroot and then flash safestrap and install a custom rom from there.

That is what I thought. What are the custom rom options? Is there a rooted marshmallow rom for the s5 i can install?
Also according to these articles it is possible:
http://rootmygalaxy.net/install-cm-13-rom-on-galaxy-s5/
http://androiding.how/download-galaxy-s5-cm13-rom-marshmallow/
I'm guessing they may not be correct?
