Taking pictures on the front facing camera requires a lot of steadiness; whereas when I shoot in video mode using the Front Facing camera, the live video playback on the display turns out smooth. Do you all experience the same phenomenon with the front facing camera? I know the front facing camera doesn't feature OIS, but still wondering what going here as my previous Note did not have camera issues.

you are not alone. i've found that in normal selfie mode, the viewfinder feels very laggy and the movement is both choppy and easily blurred.
to me this looks like a huge bug. if i change to wide angle selfie mode the movement is normal and smooth. so for me it seems like this problem / issue
is isolated within the normal selfie mode. i haven't tested out any different modes, but this is what i've learned thus far. very annoying to be quite honest.
surprised there's so few mentioning it. at least i kind of feel bothered by this sort of thing
No such issues. Both front and back are focusing quick.
Not having trouble with having to keep my hands steady for selfies. My hands shake from time to time and I let other people take selfies with my phone. Everybody was happy with their pics and putting them on Facebook. Even my dad who is a professional photographer.
I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better camera phone til the s6 or note 5.
They could always make it better of course. Always a good thing.

Anyone else notice their stock camera taking more blueish photos in various lighting?
I primarily use Camera 360, and that seems to compensate for the blue stock camera tint?
But, I must say the stock camera app is quite nice.
I am not seeing that on my camera, but I have only snapped a couple of pics in bright light and have not checked on the computer.
Are you sure your camera is not set to "Blue Tint"? On the bottom of the camera is a bar you can slide to open, the second item has options for different camera modes.
yes, I did notice this. Seems to depend on the lighting.
I've noticed a blue tint with the flash on in lower light indoor pictures. I think the camera will take some adjustments to work well. Outside it took pictures just fine. I had to have the flash off the for almost all indoor pictures.
It's definitely blue-ish/whited out with the flash and I use Vignette.
Hopefully a software update will help correct this a little bit.

Noticed this right away as well, mainly in fluorescent light. This is definitely correctable via software and from what I understand is a known issue on a very long list of known issues for this device.
Another thing I thought of - when a friend of mine got the OG Droid back in the day when it came out, I was very impressed with the camera and camcorder.
With the DX2 and D3 I'm a bit disappointed, it's almost like they took a step back. I feel like the OG Droid is better at video and photos than my Xoom as well.
Does anyone else feel like their cameras have gotten a little worse over time? I remember the Razr had some of the sharpest 1.3 MP photos (as well as Samsung and of course Nokia has always kicked ass in the photo department).
Wow, 1.3 MP... that's like the standard for a lot of front facing cameras that aren't VGA. Oh, and the 2 MP FF camera on the Xoom is grainy as **** in artificial lighting.
Other than the camera and battery issues, I LOOOOVEEE this D3. I miss a keyboard too much. And I feel like this screen is less grainy than the DX2 (but from what I gather the screen resolution would look denser on a smaller screen, right, since it's not spread out as much with the same pixels?).
So when I was taking a picture with my front facing camera on my one it looks to be in some kind of fun house mirror mode... I was looking for a setting with it but I can not seem to find it... Basically when taking a portrait with the front camera if i move my face up or down it has a bug eye/ fun house mirror effect... Am i missing this setting??
Nope mine is also the same, if I'm taking a picture with the front camera it comes out long or strectched out usually at the top. I think it's due to the wide angle lense in the front facing camera.

its really good from m9. And love how there is a "flash" for selfies on the 10.
I think is great too, coming from a Galaxy S4
I have the m9 and my sister has the 10 and I have to say the m9 is way better in low light and looks better picture wise but in video the 10 is better

I have noticed this also. This happens because you cant touch to focus in snapchat. The stock camera app can take amazing from facing photos when you can touch to focus. The auto focus doesnt kick in like it probably should =/
I think most of phone now including HTC 10, still have focusing issue in front camera.. hope they fix that

I have the problem that the front facing cam only delivers sharp pictures while holding the cam no too far away. This even happens with the HTC camera app. When I hold my arm fully streched, the image is never 100% sharp. The view finder shows a sharp picture but the result is blurred. I really start to worry that my front facing lens might be broken. But if this was correct, the preview was also blurred, right?

This was officially fixed with 1.90.x.
Was fiddling with devcheck, and stumbled onto the tabs for front camera. It seems to me that the front camera is RAW capable. Can anybody confirm or deny this claim? If so, I would love some app recommendations that can squeeze out every ounce of RAW goodness from it. Thank you all in advance!

It was a Snapchat error. We have got it fixed finally by rating it bad on the Play Store and mentioning our problems while writing the reviews xD. Its wonderful now.
OR
Maybe the latest software update had to do something with that because Snapchat sucked big time for me, both front and back camera video and picture.

I come from the m7 and I'm delighted of course by the quality.
I have a comparison had an s5 and s7 edge in comparison and grade videos made from a clear winner.
My favorite is, although I am also a fan of the s7, the m10.
Unfortunately, I was disappointed somewhat in poorer light conditions due to my high expectations.
Overall I am but more than happy with the cam
Absolutely terrible. So bad, in fact that its' one of the things that I'm jumping ship to another brand next time. They advertised this as having OIS and being special, but the focus range is whack because they went with a Samsung sensor that was having issues and the post processing is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too aggressive. I find mid range and high end phones from like 3 years ago are better looking because they are actually in focus and don't look strangely digital.

The front facing camera is usually used for taking photos of your face, this is why, by default it is set to normal mode, not wide.

Yeah that's been advertised since about two notes ago.
But you have to pan back and forth in wide selfie. Like a panorama.
i understand you have to pan it back and forth, but even not panning it's still covers wider angle than just regular "selfie". it would be nice to be able to capture wider on front camera. which is what Pixel 3 is doing.

I compared and saw no difference in coverage area if I didnt pan.
So the phone has 2 front facing cameras. The 24 megapixel camera is working fine. But is the 2 megapixel one working for you? I tried covering the camera and there is no difference in portrait blur. It looks like it's just some software blur instead of a real one.
The secound one i used for the bokeh effect.
I know. I have enabled bokeh and covered the second camera but the background is still blurred. Also it does a really bad job identifying what's in the background and what's in the front.
Try with covered lens on Aperture mode. You will see the difference.

Both secondary "cameras" are "depth sensors".

Second cameras are working but they are working in conjunction with software. Software utilizes the additional information that is collected from the depth cameras but it does not solely rely on that information. And if you cover it you may not be able to see any difference because thanks to machine learning the software is really good at identifying subjects from the background. There is never a real bokeh on these smartphones because of the tiny lenses and sensors that are being used in them. So you are always in need of some software trickery to achieve good blurr. Another option is to get really close to your subjects but in many cases that is not useful.
Both the secondary cameras, front or rear, are real. But they are only used to the boken effect most of the time.
They are used to capture the depth of a cenary, imrpoving the effect in the final version.
You probably wont notice a difference if cover the secondary sensor, but in some cases can have impact.
Most of the work isn't done by that sensor, but by the câmera software, thats why you don't see any real difference in the images.
That secondary câmera can also be used to improve the quality of some photos, for instance, in the night.
So, is a real câmera? Yes, it is.
But like in any other dual câmera smartphone, is used for some situations, not all the time.
