I've tried relentlessly to find a way to keep the screen on while charging, to practically no avail.
I ended up installing an app called "Stay Awake", which worked in theory, however, after 5 seconds the screen adjusts to the dimmest setting which is nearly impossible to read unless you are in a dark room.
Without that app running nothing else works to keep the screen on during charging.
Anyone solved this issue yet?
Thanks
Why do you want to keep it on? There are some clock apps that i think do this. But not 100% on that.

I use it to stream music to my car stereo using Winamp. Its aggravating to have to turn the screen back on everytime I want to change the song/station.

What I described above is what happens with auto brightness off. After 5 or 6 seconds the screen dims, but stays on, which is fine at night, but during the day its unreadable.

You need a car dock app then. Dashdroid used to do it. Been years since i used one. But check out dock apps.
I recently came across a setting in Settings/Developer options/Stay awake. Perhaps that would do the trick

Did you enable the Developer settings by tapping repeatedly on the build number in settings? I have the setting on my Note 3. Or do you mean it doesn't really do the trick? Sorry lol

Try Screen Timeout Toggle. Great little app that worked for me when I needed this feature while on my Note 2.

The setting is under the developer options screen. (If you don't have developer options enabled go to settings->about device and tap on build number about 10 times. (half way thru tapping you'll see a pop up telling you how many taps are left))

Hello and Happy Turkeyday to all. I have an issue with my wife's note. When she gets any notifications they turn the screen on and it doesn't turn off. I feel pretty knowledgeable about the android O.S. in a whole, I have my S5 rooted and running AICP. I just can't figure out why the notifications cause the screen to stay on. Has anyone else had this problem maybe you could help shed some light on my issue. Thanks in advance.
Is the phone rooted?

No she won't let me root her phone.
Same problem
I have the exact same problem on my Note 4 (N910F).
My phone is rooted and I have had the problem from the start.
I am also running a custom kernel now but the problem persists.
Any ideas on why this is happening anyone? I've got it to not turn the screen on for a notification but now it won't turn off when plugged in.
Turn off the lock screen notifications, or everything you can on the lock screen settings, most likely something is causing the screen to wake lock. My bet is the weather widget.

I just searched for the same problem on the Galaxy s5 and someone said to download wakelock-detector to see if it's an app.
Will keep you updated if it helps.

So a little update, so far, my problem seems to be fixed.
After the app told me that Dsploit was causing a lot of screen-on time, I disabled the app.
Haven't had it happen so far today so I hope this helps you too.

Can anyone else have other fix? I have new note 4 with rom stock and very few apps (5-8 apps)
the "Wakelock Detector-Save Battery" app requird root this not my phone so I can't root for now.
If you have very few apps installed, uninstall those apps one by one to see which one is potentially keeping the screen on. Otherwise, do a factory reset, clear cache; also ensure power button is sticky and is fully functional.

uninstall setcpu, its been a long time since its been updated. last time it was updated was in april of 2013! it doesnt work right with lollipop nor with the nexus 6. there are many cpu control apps that work with lollipop and the nexus 6, setcpu is not one of them.

not a screen protector issue. had it on for about 2 weeks without issues. installed setcpu last night and not im having issues. doing a factory reset resolves the issue but then im too lazy to download all my apps and set it all up. so, im looking for the files that setcpu modifies or adds so i can delete/edit them.
Figured it out. I simply had to reset app preferences. somehow installing setcpu caused them to get all messed up

I like SetCPU because I can make profiles. For example, my kernel is set 300-1247 with screen is of, another setting is when the phone is in call, and full speed when screen is turned on.
Does anyone know how to fix an issue where the screen never locks? It just shows the last app when the phone wakes up about half the time.
I have a Galaxy S5 unrooted and stock.
Haven't run into that but I'm having issues with random sleep of death and random reboots. Stock unrooted here as well. I've already done a cache clear and that seemed to work for about 24 hours but I just had another SOD.

That doesn't fix the problem. I adjusted that setting as soon as I did the upgrade. It's a lollipop issue.

Was this listed under 'Lock screen'? I checked where the amazingasian stated, and couldn't find the option. That being said, it doesn't seem to be consistent enough to be a setting.

Yes it's under lockscreen. To be able to see the setting, 1st u must select a lock screen type, not the regular swype screen. Then go back to the lock screen setting and the option will be available. But lime I said, doing that doesn't fix this issue. Yesterday I turned my screen on and off 3 times just to get it to lock.

Have you tried a lock screen from Play Store? That might solve the problem. I'm using Hi Locker currently, with no problems at all.

I haven't tried it, mostly because I actually like the look of the lock screen and its integration with the rest of the OS. I think it is more of a problem with the OS not recognizing that the screen has been turned off. Therefore, I think it is a problem that would affect all lock screens.
Could it be an issue with Smart Lock? I do have a smart device set up (the Sync system in my car), but the locking isn't being consistent in my car.
I am having an issue where the Samsung Keyboard crashes when used with some apps. Notably Facebook messenger. Anyone else notice this? Also, on occasion when opening the stock SMS app after unlocking the device, it automatically opens the bottom most conversation. I've cleared both data and caches for the apps. I am fresh install rooted lollipop the day it came out.

Will do, I have been so busy lately, I did not even notice. Thank you.
my lollipop problems
Stock s5 with lollipop AT&T. Since update and even after cache clearing, I am suffering from extremely slow charging, too fast battery drain. Occasional sluggishness, and occasionally notifications don't work until phone unlocked.
I used muniz_ri's flash fire method keeping root which installs fresh and lollipop works flawlessly with no bugs, nothing broken. After install, google reinstalls your apps which many rediscover their stored settings on the internal sd. Most lollipop issues seem to be related to the stock update method or manual tibu restore... muniz fresh install lollipop is solid.

This makes me wonder then, because I was a fresh install with the original method Muniz had up. I only TiBu restored a few apps (none affected by my keyboard issue) and let everything else stay fresh. I am going to try the new method for the reasons Muniz pointed out to my prior post that listed the issues I had.

Hi!
As i wrote, the screen just turning on without doing nothing.
I'm not touching...Only move it within my palms and the screen turnes on.
Anyone heard about that?
Your help would be appreciated.
Thank you!
It's called ambient display. Makes your screen turn on when the phone is moved after your screen turns off.
Basicly a replacement for the lack of a led light(talking non rooted non custom rom here)
OR.. it could also be an app, thats turning your screen on. there are many apps that do this, you should read your apps permissions.
Just turned off ambient display.
But...does it mean that now I wont get any notifications during phone at sleep?
Tnx!
Ambient display doesn't use much extra battery, it only illuminates the pixels its displaying and it keep the phone in a low power state.
It is your phone's stock visual notification system, so yes if you turn it off you won't get any visual notifications. If your phone is set to vibrate or make notification noises it will still do that. The phone does have an LED behind the speaker, so if you are rooted you can install something like lightflow to use your phone's LED for notifications instead/as well.

I don't use light flow, but I have heard of many having issues using that app. what I use is s ROM that allows for colored notifications, then I set my colors within the ROMs options. BTW, pure nexus ROM.

oh snap, I just realized this is the same guy who was posting in the lightflow tutorial thread and was told how to do it multiple times.
He does not have "run all commands as root" check in the settings, and insist its not an option. He just needs to go through the settings and enable that like the popup window when you first launch light flow tells you.
You gotta look through your settings man. I don't know what else to tell you, I don't use that app anymore but I have. And unless you go through all the options in the settings menu... The app isn't going to be able to write to the kernels file system to turn the light on.
Maybe I'll just flash the pure nexus ROM.
I just dont get how to use this App.
Tnx!
I don't want to sound mean but if you Cant figure an app out I don't think you should be flashing ROMs

He said in another thread that he bought it... but that doesn't matter. I don't and I used it via the options I stated to have LED notification for basic stuff.
I have a question regarding ambient display. I know how it works and all that stuff, however, how many time the phone wakes up with the black/white screen? Because mine gets a notification, it shows it to me then without doing nothing it shows the notification again and again, every minute I guess for a long time. Is this normal?
Yes thats normal. Just like a notification LED will stay on, Ambient Display will show every now and again until you acknowledge the notification in case you missed it. Again, it uses almost no battery to do this, I have used the phone with it on and with it off and never really notice a difference.
