Hi,
If you experienced this problem go to the 6th post where the answer is.
Have a weird problem.
SD-EXT partition seems to not mount and be discovered by system at boot. As a result cannot use DT, S2E for CM7.
Here is some background info, I suppose my diagnosis is right. Please help
I bought google-branded Nexus One with Eclair, opened the bootloader installed CWM, partitioned SD card and installe newest CM7 nightly with gapps and DT. That made the phone reboot each time any new app was installed.
I tried with different DT versions, S2E app from Market and the problem wasn't solved. Then tried MIUI, but when enabled A2SD there all apps from data were gone.
The card might need to be repartitioned/reformatted.
Did that as well, even have used different cards, formatted on different recoveries and so on. Now I found out method of Data2SD from Desire, it works on CM7 and MIUI, but I am afraid of poor performance as dalvik and data of apps are on SD-EXT now...
You could try to perform a simple copy test to/from /data and to/from SD-EXT, to know how do the speeds differ, if at all. Internal memory of Nexus isn't really speedy.
You mean via ADB? I'll send some file as soon as I'll be on Win and give it a try
After all I noticed that both SD cards were Class 2, whereas in my Wildfire I have class 10. But that really shouldn't make that difference, should it?
Also an app Link2SD works fine, so the partition itself is accessible.
I also noticed, that on Wildfire there are 4 statbars in menu (Internal Memory, System, SD card, sd-ext), but on Nexus the last one is gone. This is why I think something curious is about mounting.
Does anyone know at what stage of boot DT A2SD is activated? When the SD-EXT partition gets mounted?
Nexus One controller speed is limited, so anything beyond Class 4 most probably will be simply a waste.
The SD-EXT should be mounted when the kernel is up and running the boot scripts (/system/init.d/*). Usually it's mounted in one of the first scripts (they're numbered, and run by number sorting order).
The tab in the phone menu is an option of specific ROM. No stock ROM supports A2SD, so in order to get this tab you need a custom ROM that has this specific option integrated. I don't know of any - though MIUI most probably has it.
[SOLVED]
Thx all for help.
It was radio to blame. I installed CM7 after stock Eclair with very old radio.
Solution: go back to stock Eclair, do all OTAs and try once more with A2SD.
(and never buy a Wildfire to be afraid of doing OTAs on Nexus (I've lost root possibility by doing OTA on WF))
So out of curiousity I backed up all of my apps using titanium backup and installed the new MIUI Rom based on ICS. It kept crashing because for some reason the internal storage filled up. Now I re-installed CM7.1, but my internal storage is again almost full.
My question is, what can I do? I moved ALL my apps to my SD card before I even installed MIUI and before I installed MIUI, I had 170mb free. Actually while typing this I realized that I guess MIUI didn't remove CM7 when it installed or something... hmm. Anyway any help is appreciated, and be gentle this is my first post.
Also android.process.acore keeps stopping.
did you wipe data/factory reset, cache and dalvik cache atleast 3 times before flashing new rom???
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
Do it 4x, just to be sure
Each apk (program) on your system has a corresponding entry in the dalvik-cache that gets generated from the .apk. If your storage (/data) filled up things are going to be broken in all sorts of ways, including the inability to make the dalvik caches. Since you didn't format between ROMs, you'll also run into permission issues and settings that don't make sense in the new ROM. Cyanogen uses an alternate location (/cache) for the dalvik-cache for system apps, I don't know if MIUI does, but that could be some of the difference in space. Duplicating data for the same .apks in different ROMs could've also filled up your space. It's best to format all the phone partitions to not worry about this stuff. Usually you're safe not formatting /sdcard, but some ROMs are picky. Some ROM install scripts don't format /system and that leads to BIG headaches. If you format all the partitions, then you don't need to worry about clearing user data/battery stats/dalvik-cache because that was already handled when you formatted the storage that contained that data.
tl;dr: Fix permissions after installing a new ROM. If the old and new ROMs are different enough, everything will still be broken because you made the android gods angry. Sacrifice (format) /system, /data, and /cache (and sd-ext if you have it) *before* installing the new ROM and things should be fine.
Haven't used MIUI for awhile, but didn't think it had an ICS version. There is one in XDA, but it is not stable and I think requires blackrose hboot and differnet partition sizes for hboot. It also runs a2sd on reboot i think?
CM7 uses Dark Tremor beta4, that's what I use. It needs flashed after rom and scripts run to move apps. Check out their site
As suggested format all including system and format sd card with sdformatter, full erase and size adjustment on and set up 1gb ext 0 swap
copy sdcard and have a good nandroid first

MIUI has both blackrose and non blackrose version of ICS

right, but one is unstable and he can't keep his ics partition if flashing non ics one
I've tried the latest versions and both br and non-br ones seemed have problem with data connectivity. Some others have experienced the same. Thought the dev's investigating it. But, previous version, i.e. 2.3.2, worked fine.
Try non-br 2.3.2 with 185/85/166 partition layout, that was great.

Having similar issues with ICS MiUI which really seems rather unstable (v2.3.2), and going to flash the latest update from a few days ago (v2.3.9).
Any suggestions on how to deal with some of the stock MiUI "bloatware" that comes with it and seems stuck on the system ROM? A2SD is supposed to be enabled, but unless stuff I dowload off market/play or restore is deemed systems apps, which I doubt is the case, I can't seem to choose to move them to SD card or in this case the "USB Storage" (Sorry, my postcount's too low to post on the actual MiUI Dev thread)
Also, as a sidetrack, does anyone know how best I can sieve through my contacts storage/DB? recently I think i might've accidentally synched with my FB countacts and it seems to have bloated up to 16-18+Mb which is alot from the previous 10-12Mb or less from what I recall. Is there an app or something to help 'manage" it better or do I have to manually go through and get rid of excess contact info on the phone or from my Google contacts list?
Thanks in advance for any advice you guys might have.
hi all .. i use link2sd to link all my apps to my sd card..this should give me alot of space ...i used to use lewa rom and i have 2xx apps and themes but when i switch to sgs2 rom i decided to delete som apps i hardly use / themes and now there is about 120apps but then when i start to download some games my memory went to 2mb only ?? is this bug ?
this happens to me when i change from lewa to old cm7 fat. ext4 seems lost. and i need to transfers all files to sd using app2sd manually. s2e didnt work.
it was ok now after i changed to stock lite ..i tink it;s a bug
Used link2sd long time on stock rom, very good tool but it seems not work very good with titanium. It works, but after recovering all apps i had very little memory, but all apps are on sd-ext. I moved one after the other to sd, back to phone and then 2 sd.ext, that works and i got much more space. Dont know why, but this procedure was very hard, because of less rom space moving 10 apps to phone, moving to ext and so on.....
But now im using cm7-FAT and s2e, moved dalvic, apps, data and cache to sd, so i have 171! MB free space on phone. No need to have so much space on phone, but whats the best: Phone ice noticeable faster than before, seems that my sandisk class4 sdcard is faster than phone memory, i wondered, but it is so, feels really faster ;-)
regards
I have never been able to set up Link2SD perfectly. In addition, Link2SD makes soft link which makes internal memory little bit usable though. Also, It can not be configured to be on external storage for widget or themes. I remember installing ~50 Apps I had just 60MBs free. But, with S2E I am boss! It serves all needs perefectly. A lot better than Link2SD.
As i said, link2sd works fine for me long time, the graphical interface is very good for managing where your apps should be.
All widgets and tools that never work with standard app2sd (on fat-sdpartition) work as they should do.
Problem is the lack of moving dalvic-cache and other data, so i had ~45MB free, with nearly 100 apps installed. Thats fine, but as i said before, after backing up its sometimes tricky to get all the apps on sd-ext again.
And after some time, phone gets fuller and fuller, i think because of cached data or somewhat.
So with s2e (works on cm7, on stock darktremor a2sd will do nearly the same...) all data are on sd, wich is very good for me, as i said before, performance is better now.....
regards
s2e works Fine in all Cm7.x based roms.
for link2sd user, IMHO this is a very good tutorial [TUT]install apps as much as you can, DON'T WORRY ABOUT MEMORY!![reUPDATED][FAQ's]
I have s2e and successfully moved apps, dalvik, and cache to sd-ext.. but my data (/data/data) cannot be moved to sd-ext... can anyone help me with this? my sd card is RiData 16gb class 10 with 1gb ext3 partition...
edit: found my fix. i have to enable the advanced option in the settings... now i have 170mb free in internal! haha!
Download ALL the apps!

Haha. Found the problem as soon as I read the first line. Links2SD doesn't move everything to the SD card. Let me explain...
I switched to a stock based rom the other day and since S2E doesn't work for stock, I had to google something up and came back to Links2SD. I've used it before but I've had some problems with it. After I was restoring my 97 apps with titanium, not even half way through and it says my device is running out of memory. When I checked Links2SD, everything was on the SD card and yet the internal memory was getting taken up completely.
My fix? I said **** stock roms and went back to CM7 with S2E. It moves everything to the EXT partition as soon as you install it. I restored all of my 97 apps one after another WITH NO ISSUE AT ALL. Only problem I had is that I had to move some apps that use widgets back to internal because the widgets won't work installed on the SD.
Check out the guide on my signature. Cyanogenmod for life. Never again shall I go back to stock.
S2E FTW. I have faced problwm plenty of times what just superace explained. There isn't a useless reason I put that sentence about link2sd in my signature.

All Widgets work, if on internal storage, but with s2e sd-ext is like internal, partition is mounted at boot.
Widgets dont work, if they are on normal sd-space (mounted much later, i think), which is fat32.
I have 1024MB sd-ext and all apps on it, all work, even widgets or others who need to be on phonespace normally. And i think its impossible to move some of them to "real" internal space selectively, only link2sd can do this, or am i wrong?
However, a2sd or s2e seems to be the best solution, if you have very much apps, cause it moves nearly all data to sd...

@SuperAce609,
I'm completely agree with you. This is the only reason why I also haven't gone to stock ROMs like that SGSII by Rushabh. But, one thing you haven't got right about S2E is Widgets' memory location. With S2E, that partition is mounted as internal memory at the start up. All I am saying is, Widgets moved to sd-ext DO work perfectly. I know it, because I am a BIG Widget & themes fan. Have installed plenty of widgets and have 23 themes installed of CM7 theme chooser. Still 117MB internal memory is free. Here, Link2SD would have kept all those themes and widgets in internal memory while restoring via titanium.

@nihilista,
There is one option of saying "Advanced Mode" in S2E Settings. Never tried it myself. But, I suppose its may be for not moving apps, which should not be in external storage like Link2SD. But not Individually.
hey hi , i am on stock rom (2.3.6 ddkq8) does it support apps2sd....read that while u partition ur sd card..""if the rom supports apps2sd"".....(do these roms have to support such applications????) ......it will transfer the files to ext3......to clear internal memory (main problem in Galaxy ace).
2) after partition ...if i try to move apps to sd card from the fone's stock application manager...will it be transferd to the same EXT3?
3) diffrence btween link2sd and app2sd...do they perform the same task?
P.S.- i want to stay on this rom......please help me with this....as m a newbie...i dont have any clue as to how should i move apps.

I just flashed 20140113 and can report 2 problems. The mp4 video file just being located on the system still crashes gallery even if it is not selected. Google+ dousnot work either. It displays a message to reinstall it. There is no option to delete it. Play Store has been working OK for me since I flashed Milaq's 1208 gapps. I tried using newer gapps but they must be installed on top of the ROM or they cause boot loops. Try using the 1208 gapps and Google Play should work. I also tried using invisiblek's ROM but found it to be unstable.
I am using 1208 gapps, but they were installed with the previous ROM, not over top of the newest nightly. I'll give that a shot when I get home tonight, thanks for the tip.
same issue, 20140113 nightly and 1208 kk gapps over top. Google Play still crashes for me.

check if you have /cache partition mounted
I'm not exactly sure how to check if /cache is mounted, but in settings>storage, I see cached data 22.29mb, does that count?
using webOS tailor, the cache partition is set at 200mb
I downloaded "partition table" from the play store which took a few tries since the play store crashes for me on this rom.
yes /cache is mounted and active

While waiting for the next ROM I tried using different GAPPS with this ROM. If I use a GAPPS package specific to 4.4.2 things like GOOGLE+ start to work but create other problems like boot loops and crashes. I have gone back to the 1208 gapps but I think this rom needs an update of the gapps to android 4.4.2. specific to the touchpad. At any rate it appears one must do a clean install when changing gapps by doing a complete reset. just make sure you keep your nandroid backups or you may have to do an acme uninstall followed by a new install since the external (WEBOS) is not accessible from the new datamedia CWM. I used Tailor in Webos to leave just enough space for webos and allocated most of my memory to Android storage. I'm waiting to see if a future ROM will fix the reboot from MP4 video file being installed before I can use this ROM as a daily driver. Thanks to Milaq and supporting developers my entire family are now equipped with HP Touchpads.

After 2 years working with the Touchpad and coming from early versions of CyanogenMod I thought I would install Milaqs CM11. As I can't post in the developer forum I thought I would share my experience with those that might find it useful..... Simply flashing a CM11 4.4 ROM (clean or dirty flash) means you end up with a messed up storage sd card partition layout and actually a system which isn't really usable in the long run, so forget it. However, with patience there is a way around this though, as Milaq rightly states in his original post and that is to re-partition the drive (sd card) so the maximum amount is given over to data as opposed to media storage, this means that when the 4.4 rom is flashed it sees the whole of the sd card and treats it as a single drive which is the way its all going using new datamedia builds. This however is not straightforward and takes some thinking about, but it can be done and is well worth it in the long run. I suggest that RolandDeschain79 really needs to update this and other posts as it is misleading to let people think they can simply flash 4.4 - CM11 following his guides - as you really should not, especially as the newer kernels are being used. The video tutorials created by Roland are great and have helped the TP community a lot but I would like to suggest that a whole new video is created (the existing one is good but could be improved tremendously, having done it myself) to fully explain re-partitioning with 'Tailor' (this is the only way to do it forget all other ways using Apes flashable fixes and the like as they do not work properly). Sideloading the ROM and Gapps using ADB from recovery using the feature in CWM 6.0.4.6, is really the only proper way to install CM11 KitKat on the Touchpad and at same time make use of all of its internal storage capability in one simple easy to navigate installation, without silly emulated card space etc. I will help others where I can as I just spent a whole day figuring it all out and now have a 32GB Touchpad that runs Milaq's CM11 the way it should be, its fantastic and well worth the effort.

Its all installed on a single partition making most efficient use of the layout and storage capability. No need to move apps onto sd card and all that nonsense . It is very fast and makes cm10 seem so yesterday

However, when I installed invisiblek nightlie (ofcos with 3.4 kernel cwm), start showing the sdcard1 partition.
based on my analysis milaq's 'init.tenderloin.rc' file do not have entries to mount the sdcard1.
Appreciate any kind of help.

If you have any backups saved you can restore one that had access to both sd0 and sd1. Use file manager to move the files you need from sd1 to sd0. Restore the new ROM and you will have your files on sd0. When you are ready to stay with cm-11 go back to webos and use Tailor to shrink the external SD to just enough to support your webos and allocate the remainder of memory to Android storage. With the new data media cwm just use sd0 for everything.

How much space I should left on sd1 for WebOS?
Also, I am trying to settled myself with invisiblek's rom, where my another partition (sdcard1) shows mounted (& accessible)
In terms of help, to be specific, how can I mount the another partition (sdcard1), once the rom is running. I mean is there way via TerminalEmulation, etc?
Another purpose about the post is to drag milaq's attention for the point/matter.
Again thanks for your help.:good:

Ashman - Once you commit to Milaq's cm-11 rom there is no way to access SD1 from Android since he does not mount it. The amount of space you allocate to the external sd card in Tailor for webos would depend on the amount of apps and files you want to save for webos. I left a back door on my Touchpad by leaving 1 old backup in place that supports both sd1 and sd0. This allows me to place a zip file on sd1 with webos and move it to sd0 with file manager under the old version restored when needed. At any rate I understand Milaq's logic that once we move over to a data media recovery every thing Android can use sd0 as one big chunk of memory.
Which ROM would you recommend for Honor 4X - Che2-L11 ( cherryplus, Kirin 620)? I need to fix my girlfriend's phone
She needs stable ROM with working radio (so Nougat from here won't work), headphones, good battery life and enough internal storage (or possibility to move apps to SD or use adoptable storage with microSD) for apps.
Android 4.4.2 was relatively fine, but it is old. Then we upgraded to stock 6.0 (B570), however she had problems with lack of internal storage - it was not possible to move apps to SD card (4.4.2 was better in that) and adoptable storage didn't work properly (apps are crashing, reporting not enough space, new apps can't be installed etc). Then we tried RROS on Nougat from ksrt12, where adoptable storage seems to work fine, but radio and headphones don't work and there is quite high battery drain (15% per night with data disabled).

If you are OK with Android 6, you can try Modaco. This was the rom I used before I switched to RROS recently.
You should get a Class 10 SD card (32 Gb if possible). Install Apps2SD from play store and partition the card. First partition FAT32, second partition Ext4, then you move apps to SD card's second partition. (If you wish, you can create three partitions, and use one of them as 'adoptable storage'. I did that.) Modaco rom has a lot of free space on the system partition, so you can move many apps there, which also saves space. But apps that have been moved to system partition will be moved back to internal storage when they are updated.
I had so much free space that I never came close to filling up the storage. But I think regular XDA users would get kinda bored using this rom, as it is basically EMUI with a little bit stock feel.
The only things not working were the default clock and the compass. Clock you can just install another clock app from play store. Compass. .. I never found how to fix. Detecting headphones works and all the other hardware things, as this is basically a modified EMUI 4. I should also add that I don't know if you can flash this from RROS, as that would be "downgrading" from Android 7 to Android 6.

I did that.) Thank you for the advice. I see Modaco has 2 ROMs - EMUI style and Stock style beta. Which one did you use?
With use of Apps2SD, does it move all apps to Ext4 partition on the card, or just selected ones? Or is it basically just remapping internal storage to Ext4 partition on the card?
If I have just 16 GB card for this phone, how do you suggest to repartition it?
If there is so much free space on the system partition, isn't it possible to decrease size of system partition somehow and enlarge internal storage instead?

It must have been the Stock style beta. I didn't know there was another version.

Apps2SD moves the files of apps to the SD card and creates symbolic links, so the system "thinks" the apps are still on the internal storage. In Apps2SD this process is called to link apps. Just so you know the terminology. It is very configurable, so you can choose which apps to move/link to the SD card.
What you describe, to repartition /system, sounds like a good idea, but I don't know enough about Android to say if it is possible. You would probably need some recovery program that can repartition the internal storage. Can TWRP do that? I don't know. This is above my league, sorry.
UPDATE: I found this guide for how to repartition the internal storage. But I haven't tried it.
I installed that MoDaCo EMUI style ROM, partitioned my SD card and made Apps2SD working. So far it looks fine.
However, does it still make sense to use MoDaCo EMUI ROM, which is based on B506 firmware, when there is B580 stock available? Yes MoDaCo has more internal memory free (3.28 GB vs 2.50 GB), but it has security patches only from March 2016, while B580 has July 2017 and who knows how good tweaks Huawei added since B506...

I have two Che2-L11 phones, and one of them was running B580 until a few weeks ago. The few small improvements Huawei added are not even worth the upgrade. However, if security concerns you, I would give RROS another try. About your headphones problem, I don't see why it should not work. It works on my phone. (Note three-conductor is detected and switched on, but not four-conductor.)

I also don't know why headphones without microphone didn't work with RROS for us, but it can be also related to parts of firmware that are not flashed together with RROS and they remain from previous full firmware (like modem firmware, hifi.img, dsp.img etc). Also before we flashed RROS, we had Marshmallow B570 showing Balong firmware (in the past, we upgraded from 4.4.2 to B570, but it seems she had Malaysian region set in the phone for some reason - I fixed it now) in the phone.
Unfortunatelly my girlfriend (she has this phone) wants to have headphones and radio fully working (RROS doesn't have radio as far as I know), so it seems as no go for RROS...
