Hello;
I have a rooted and unlocked at&t SGH-I537. MOST of the rom released have will not work on at&t SGH-I537. Is that true? Is there a way around it?
Thanks
The AT&T version of the Active currently (still) has a locked bootloader and until that gets cracked/hacked/bypassed in some manner then no, custom ROMs won't really appear at all.
All the ROMs for the Galaxy S4 will not work on the Galaxy S4 Active - they might share a lot in common but they are far from being the same phones.
Just have to be patient and hope a small miracle happens, but considering the already waning interest in the GS4A, it might never happen sadly.
I figured this phone would really take off...but at&t isn't really pushing this phone anymore. All I know is this is the last carrier specific phone I buy.

I thought this was going to be the last phone I buy for a few years, I guess I was wrong.
I have to admit I think the screen is killer on this phone. Way better than the amoled on the s4.

I prefer this screen too
Well this is a bummer, is there any new news on this situation? I kinda figured since it's an att exclusive phone it would have some limitations on the ROM front, but there isn't even one legitimate ROM out there for this awesome device?
-Thank you

There are no ROMs specifically for the I537, however...
Safestrap allows you to install (up to 4, theoretically) most any ROM out there at this point for primarily experimentation since there's only one that appears to be working properly but there's a specific sequence you have to follow to get everything working. You can find all the info you need as well as Safestrap in that thread located here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448942
The only ROM that's working as I just mentioned is this one, the AOSP port of the Google Edition for the I9295 (the International GS4A):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2406177
With Safestrap you can "install" a ROM that goes onto the native internal storage of the device, runs from the native internal storage, and now because of Hashcode's update has the full performance expected (all 4 cores recognized and working).
I currently have the stock MF3 ROM (the AT&T junk) install as expected, and then I installed Safestrap (updated to the newest one released on Sunday morning), added it as a recovery method, created a new slot (of the 4 you get) for the AOSP ROM, grabbed the ROM itself, the MF3 kernel modules which get the actual hardware like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functional (of which there are MF1 modules for the MF1 stock ROM available too), then the camera fix zip created/shared by LeJay to get a working camera. No you don't get all the Samsung additional stuff like HDR "Rich mode" shots, or a lot of customization at all but the camera does work for regular pics and video recording.
It runs very well, posts benchmarks well past the standard GS4 (meaning using stock ROMs for it), and the HTC One as well so it's great.
Graviton and S4 active
Just as an FYI I just got the Graviton ROM working on my S4 Active. Pretty much followed the same steps as Broadband. It just took some guess as to which kernel to choose. I also chose the i9505 model. The wifi fix works for this as well. I'm about to try the camera fix and the menu/back key fix
any one know if Samsung is planning to bring KitKat to S4 Active?
@Srolfe657 Did you ever get the camera working with the Graviton ROM? If so how?
It looks like there might be 2 ROMs out there that might work.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-active#romList
I haven't tested them but I'm looking into it... I purchased my Active used and it was already rooted... currently running 4.2.2 and I want 4.4.2 so bad!!!!
Safestrap 3.65 not working
Has anyone gotten safestrap 3.65 to work I installed it seem to go smoothly then power cycle and no splash screen so I cant get into it . Should I be using CWM ? if so what version there isn't one listed for the s4 active.
Thanks for any help
So this may sound like a silly question, but I don't understand why anyone would buy a Moto X is they are going to flash a ROM that isn't blur based. Don't you lose all the functionality that makes Moto X great? Like the performance benifits of the Motorola X8, the active display, the touchless controlls... even the performance on the Moto X is well above what the tech specs would lead you to believe.
I used to be a flashaholic with previous phones but the only flash I did on the Moto X was a pre rooted stock based rom and I haven't felt the need to go AOSP. I broke my screen and Moto gave me a new one that I just got today ... contemplating what to do with my flashing situation to my new one since I have a fresh start.

I agree I tried PAC ROM and it lasted about an hour and I went back to stock. I missed active notifications and touchless control. I mean the ROM was great very smooth just missed what made my maxx a maxx. However there are people that may not use active notification and touchless control so a ROM is fine for them. I will never put another ROM on my phone I love it stock with xposed and gravity box. To me its the best of both worlds. And gravity box is updated every week or two with new features so it never gets stale. To each their own that is what i love about android there is something for everyone unlike apple which is take what we give you.

Haha yah I know what you mean. Thanks for the reply! I was wondering if I was missing something like the features could be installed into CM or something but I guess I'm staying Blur On previous moto phones I always flashed CM or something similar I hated blur ... but the Google owned Moto X Blur is really AOSP with some nice features on top taking advantage of the X8.
EDIT: Also I was reading about Gravitybox as you replied to this I do think I'm gonna install that.
Gravity box will give you all or most the features of the custom roms and let you keep the Moto x features.
Sent from my N5 cell phone telephone....
Because some people believe that "pure" AOSP (even though custom roms aren't pure AOSP) is the be-all-end-all of Android.
Yea, i used to be a flasholic too whit my previous nexus 4, but I don't know why I just feel great whit the stock ROM of the moto X.
Active display its really great and extremely useful, maybe I will never want to have led notifications again. I want active nots forever In every future phone from now.
By the way, I think we don't need to flash Roms because we have almost native android, and if we use gravity box the result its better that cm or aosp.
THE ONLY TWO THINGS that I really miss are: Halo (PA) and MIUI for the weekends.

The previous two updates, yes, even the one from today (3/17/14) have rendered my Active Display useless. I've got the XT1053 DE, rooted and on 4.4. Anyone else having issues?

Please explain this statement carefully "The previous two updates, yes, even the one from today (3/17/14)" wasn't sure what you meant.
Also, if it worked on stock then it works. after you root and flash you're gonna have to ask these questions with the root maker or ROM maker if you're using a custom ROM.
and to answer the question I have never had problems with active display. Try going back to stock is my advice then re-root and carry on.
Not rooted, 4.4.2 no issues with active display. What do you have turned off?
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
I meant that the last two updates, even the one that was supposed to fix the broken Active Display, don't work on my phone. If I uninstall updates it works fine, so I don't have anything disabled to cause it to not work. If you check the Play Store reviews, others have had this problem and have been referred to their customer care, but customer care sucks and rarely knows what they're talking about, so I figured I'd try here first.
I've never had any problems with it, using 4.4.2. Is it possible the people with problems are using 4.4 and not 4.4.2 ?
That's what I'm afraid of. I don't want to flash stock recovery and update for such a minor update that some report cause more battery drain.
4.4.2 has been awesome for myself and my local friends, however we are all using XT1058 hardware and the Rogers 4.4.2 firmware build. With the various hardware variants and firmware builds there are bound to be various smaller potential bugs here and there that only select groups of people come across.
Is it just me or does it seem like a lot, not all, but a lot of the devs have moved on to other devices?
If so, it makes me sad to see that the first real Google phone was so quickly abandoned.

How exactly are you defining this as "the first real google phone?"
Do the nexus devices not count?

The other issue is custom features. Moto X users love active display and touchless control, and other than that it is AOSP. there is very little reason for development besides debloated / odexed roms, of which there are plenty

This is the first phone I felt didn't need a custom ROM. I just installed xposed and gravity box and it's golden. Love this phone.
Unfortunately, the stock rom and features being so good has doomed development for this phone IMO. It's a bit expected since this is what I've wanted since my earliest days with with Android. Moto did a great job with it.
There isn't much demand for custom ROMs, especially since it's already running nearly stock (with useful enhancements that would be lost). If you want the miscellaneous customization options included in most ROMS, just install Xposed Framework and grab one of the various modules available (gravity box seems to be the most popular)

I have to agree there. I unlocked my Moto X but only to root it and put Xposed framework on it. After that I installed Gravity Box to customize it how I wanted.
CyanogenMod 11 is official for it but its not posted here. Dhacker forgot to make a Moto X thread. Its under msm8960dt instead of xt1060 etc.. as they unified all the Moto X builds: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=moto_msm8960dt
The things I gave up using CM 11 when I tried it that brought me back was lack of NFC HCE support (Google Wallet Tap and Pay wont work), Touchless Control, and no Active Display. Granted ACDisplay app has made great strides and, once they get the gravity wake features enabled, I would not mind using that instead of AD. GW issue is something though that bothers me.
I think the only time I will consider a rom for this phone is once Motorola stops updating it and a new version of Android comes out that CyanogenMod is building from.
I too have to agree with what most people have been saying about the X. All of my previous Android phones were Samsung phones. I was a serious flashaholic with them. AOKP was my favorite on my S3. I hated touchjizz with a passion. Now, with the X, I'm completely satisfied with running stock. I never thought that would happen. All I have that's custom on my X is Faux's kernel. And, I'm happy as a clam.

Yup.... This really isn't a "flashing"phone. Its an enjoy stock and the moto features and use gravity box to customize phone.
Very few seem to be using the ROMs that are available.... And as said, its cause you lose all the custom moto features, which are a big reason people bought the phone to begin with.
Also, the dangers of downgrading have played a part in people not wanting to mess with it too much I think.
I loved my x, and still recommend it to anyone I know looking for a phone....but yeah, I passed it to my wife for an n5....cause I was bored. Lol
Maybe you should try a similar move? Unless you're content. Cause unless the moto features make it to custom ROMs.....development won't pick up anytime soon. Maybe when updates end, then custom ROMs may pick up.

I'll simply add that my 2 cents echo's those above - the phone does what I want it to do, and well. Its already running the up to date OS, which on prior devices was my main reason for flashing in the first place.
ROM development should pick up after our phones are dropped from OTAs. For the time being, stock does everything you need and it's crazy stable.
I bought this phone so I didn't have to rely on development.
Xposed framework seems to be all I need on this phone at least until it starts falling behind on future ota's as I plan on keeping it for a while.
Xposed Framework is more than enough to fill any custom rom desires.
Moto X is pratically AOSP with lots of really useful features like Active Display that I can't imagine living without now.
As much as I love AOSP and have loved using custom roms, Moto did too good of a job to warrant the constant flashing of nightlies, restoring backups, getting all my apps back, testing builds for bugs etc. I do still enjoy trying out different roms from time to time just for fun.
With all that said, I'm enjoying the stock based roms, and the stock rom + xposed. My plan is to continue using stock based roms and every month or so try a custom kernel, see what combination gives me the best battery life and smoothness, enjoy having a bug free phone, and taunt my friends with the awesome moto goodies (they really seem to envy touchless control, as they should!)
Honestly, once we stop receiving OTA's, I'll start looking for a new device. But, damn, it's going to take something special to force me to make a change.. A DE Moto X with unlimited data on Verizon, what the hell more could a guy want?!

Its crazy how vzw makes you lose your unlimited data if you upgrade. At&t doesn't. But yeah I was going to get the gs5 but changed my mind. I'm going to hold off to see what the moto x+1 is going to be like. I'm pretty interested in the iPhone 6 and see what it has to offer also. But going to keep my x till later on in the year.

I actually just used all the upgrades on my family plan through best buy and kept the unlimited data, some glitch in the best buy system, used mine on an iPhone 5S and sold it. But yeah it sucks you have to jump through hoops and get lucky to keep unlimited with Verizon.

i dont agree. development is not dead. if you look at the newest custom roms then you see 99.9% everything works. there is nearly every custom rom available.
there is just not too much kernel developers. it is ok because they also dont develop their kernels like before, they just import a kernel source from vendor and patch it with experimental features and you can not modify them without pay their apps. just remember siyah kernel and you know what i mean...
Its not like it needs it a whole lot. Its already running just about stock, already on a new build of KitKat, and has a lot of features you can't add in with another ROM like touch less control. We have xposed modules so what more can you ask for?
Sent from my XT1056 using Tapatalk
I havent found one ROM that doesn't have an issue albeit small issues but issues all the same. Why flash a ROM that takes away touch less control and notifications and in my opinion doesn't run any better than stock., just to have small issues. There is just no benefit that I could find. The best ROM I tried was gummy but the stock email app continuously tried to load emails killing the battery.
Hey Guys
I have a rooted moto x on android 4.4.4 and recently motorola released the android 5.1 OTA update for my device.
So i was just wondering if i should upgrade or not, or if there are any known problems because my friend with a nexus 5 upgraded to lolipop quickly and it was a disaster.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Pros and cons of lolipop (IMHO)
Pros:
1) New moto voice (you can set your own launch phrase)
2) Marginal lag reduction
Cons:
1) Mobile standby battery consumption is off the charts in all lollipop builds (No solution in sight yet)
2) Wave to wake on active display is disabled , can't get it to work without tasker (yes it was available in 4.4.4, although not advertised)
3) Internal space consumption is higher due to ART implementation
4) If you're an Xposed fan, the builds for Xposed right now are in the Alpha build stage .
5) Can't revert to 4.4.4 stock without chance of permanent bricking
Hope it helps

Hello. I actually searching for help with my phone and found this forum. I have the older moto x xt1058 (factory just the way it comes) it updated 4 days ago and I have already ordered a new phone diff brand. The phone is a complete different thing now.
Some of the issues include Bluetooth and wifi won't work if both on at same time, wifi connection is random, lots of lag time, turned off then back on a few times, drains battery like Super crazy crazy, and then I didn't like the changes in the way things look...like text messaging changed size and font, the keyboards changed ect.
Hopefully my phone is a fluke and other folks do much better.
Good luck to you and have a great day
