When coming from any other ROM, you must do a factory reset / clean flash.
The first boot can take a very long time. Don't assume that it is a bad flash, boot loop, etc. until it has sat for at least 5 minutes.

GAPPS: (to be added)
Sensors / Ambient Display
Builds starting from 2015-01-23 contain a new package that enables the stow sensor and the camera activation sensor. The stow sensor IMO makes Ambient Display into a useful feature.
To use the stow sensor you must enable "Ambient DIsplay" in Settings >> Display. Once enabled, the stow sensor will light up the ambient display whenever your phone is unstowed. Unstowed means take it out of your pocket, turn it face up after it was laying face down, etc.
You can also trigger the stow sensor by covering the top right corner of the phone (where the proximity sensor is).
The camera activation sensor is always enabled when the display is turned off (it does not depend on the ambient display feature). It's the same gesture as stock and launches the camera securely without unlocking your phone.
Note: There is still no support for the IR Gesture sensor (aka wave you hand in front of the phone to view notifications or act on notifications).

You've utilized the search function of the forums. Nothing irritates me more than lazy people who do not search for an answer before asking.

Awesome, glad to see some kind of development. Is there a feature list, or is this just a CM build from stock?

Cool, thanks, but can't use Moto's Active Display apks from a stock 5.0 image?
Hello , good afternoon , I have the motorola moto xt1092 lollipop with RETESALL , I installed the rom and gapps my motorola starts but when I put the pin I get this message .
Error in encryption.
Encryption was interrupted and can not complete . No you can regain access to the data of the phone.
You must restore the data factory to reuse the phone. When you set your phone after this process , you can restore the data that has been backed up your Google account ..
Any ideas or is not compatible with my model, use TWRP . thank you very much

No. If you want moto features, use stock (which is AOSP but optimized for the hardware and includes moto stuff), or if you don't want moto features use CM (which is like AOSP but will not run as efficiently since it does not have the proprietary binaries/drivers, just hacked workarounds). I never understand why people want other ROMs but then want the stock features in those other ROMs. Especially when stock is VERY close to pure Android already.

Ambient display is enabled but not (yet?) tied into the sensors.
A2dp is Bluetooth audio.

Can you help clear up my inaccuracies? I may not be a student anymore but I do love learning. And please accept my apologies, I meant no disrespect to your hard work.
I do admit that if somehow Ambient Display gets tied to the sensors, AOSP on this device could be pretty cool. This feature + always on moto voice listening + Tasker would make a great ROM.

By inaccuracies, I was referring to this: "CM (which is like AOSP but will not run as efficiently since it does not have the proprietary binaries/drivers, just hacked workarounds)".
It can run as efficiently because the qcom optimizations are done in a way that is easy for another ROM to use as well. Their goal is to protect their IP and not to protect Motorola's bragging rights. The kernel is GPL and open sourced. Any optimizations there are in the CM builds as well. Therefore, there is no reason for it not to be as efficient.
CM is not AOSP. We are working to incorporate newer code. Code Aurora Forum is the the basis of all vendor builds. As of the latest Motorola release, they are still using a 4.4 based kernel and may still be using hacked together older HALs. CM is using newer HALs which is painful for me but definitely can be better for users. I know of two devices that have moved to a pure CAF kernel and the difference is VERY noticeable.
Finally, there is nothing that qualifies as "just hacked workarounds".
Hi thanks first and foremost for this rom, i've been waiting for some development for awhile and glad to see this CM build appear, I have the Telus Moto X unlocked bootloader, rooted with the lastest twrp. Ive been tryng to install this rom for about an hour and im just getting a bootloop. I've let it sit there for 20 minutes and still just the Cm splash screen looping. I was on 4.4.4 so i did a backup of stock, then did a factory/reset and then wiped dalvic cache and cache. Then proceeded to flash cm and gapps and can't get out of the bootloop. Do i have to do anything else in TWRP for this to work? I see above someone mentioned format data? is that really needed for this to boot up? Is my phone even compatible? Its pretty much a pure edition with a different modem. Thanks for any insight to get this working on my device.
*Edit* formating data did the trick thanks again .

Hello all! I want to introduce my first ROM that I built from github and the repos. It is my first time building from source, so I am happy about it . Some of you may know who I am from the MyTouch 4G thread, since I ported ROMs on there (you know who you all are).
First off, I want to give a huge thanks to @DJLamontagneIII for helping me with all my problems and allowing me to use his repos for this ROM. And for letting me post this. This whole ROM is made from his repos, but it is for the Nexus 7 (Flo), but I have brought it over for the Nexus 4 (Mako)!
Other thanks go out to CyanogenMod (and team), @klvnhng for his guide, @inffy for his guide, @obtained, @TheDarkDefender, @Cristiano Matos, @Der_Schubi, and whoever else I forgot
Check out @DJLamontagneIII's ROM for the Flo here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391779
*No Linaro, as I don't know how to build with it yet. I believe it's placebo, so I probably will not include it.
Now I want this ROM to be about you all too! So if you want cherry picks to be made, just tell me by replying to this thread, and I will consider adding it. Be sure that it is a good pick, e.g. a cool feature or improvement. I will pick what I see is good as well. It does not have to be from Cyanogen's gerrit, but from a github repo as well. For the github repo, it need's to be cm10.2 based or I will not do it. I may not be able to merge it, but I will do my best.

so...I am back, and this time, the ROM built successfully! but, I need testing on it. if all is well, I will update the OP
I just synced DJL's github and added couple of picks from the cm gerrit for vendor/cm. it's to resolve those deep sleep problems i've been reading about. idk if it worked, but that's why you guys can test
so you know the drill. backup, backup, and BACKUP! I am not responsible to what happens. i'm sure everything will be alright though.

thanks :good:
Works nicely so far. I will keep an eye on the deep sleep.
Once again, I am having trouble building from source. I have no clue when another build will arrive. I may have to wait for the dev to fix up some code. Luckily, this ROM is interchangeable, meaning you can flash crDroid on top of this and it will not ruin anything! that's the good part about having cm10.2 as base
first of all, I want to thank those who tested out the test ROM that I posted earlier and replied. @AcmE85, thank you
next...I was able to build successfully! so a new build will be up soon
I will also update the first post

Yes. If you notice, I closed the individual variant threads and put a direct link to this thread. Basically, you can see a list of supported variants by checking this:
https://github.com/omnirom/android_device_samsung_jflte/blob/android-4.4/BoardConfig.mk#L129
That is the list of device asserts that the updater-script will accept.

I just flashed the 05/28 nightly (on my jfltespr) with the 4-16 Minimal PA Gapps with absolutely no errors. This most definitely sounds like a Gapps problem to me, since the SetupWizard is not packaged or built with the ROM, but instead flashed with Gapps. This is why if you were to NOT flash a Gapps package, you don't have to run through it.

Hello Jakew02
I moved over to your latest rom yesterday the 5/29 nightly and i came across a couple issues.
i have been using cm mod since the days of android cupcake and decided to try this out.
1st issue is when im trying to lower the phone ringer volume, it always goes to lower the sounds/music volume. it is pretty annoying because i have to make all the sliders come out and manually slide the phone ringer volume. even after switching between apps and what not it insists on lowering the music volume.
2nd issue is i cannot get the multi window to work or how to enable it. i have downloaded and installed these apps :halo)),multiwindowsidebar, toggle multiwindow, xhalo floating, xmultiwindow, and xposed installer. also the fixvisibilityofmultiplenonulls. Any help on getting it to work will be appreciated. i am very new to this feature since ive never had it in CM since i thought u couldnt get it, only on Stock Samsung roms.
lastly, is there any way to add shortcuts to the unlock slider like in cm?
thanks

Nope, already switched to the other ROM. Omni is good, but doesn't suit my needs

i have stated multiple times that kernel developers will need to begin released "omni-based" kernels.
I WILL NOT alter this ROM to accommodate custom kernels. the kernels need to change to be compatible with the ROM.
Custom kernels will not just magically start working. Kernel developers need to remove the flo adreno drivers and related commits from their kernels. If they don't know which commits those are, they can simply cherry-pick this commit: https://github.com/omnirom/android_kernel_samsung_jf/commit/068449af3996f1072c80dcc4a09a88af43abd7f7
contained in that commit is all of the reverts needed to make a cyanogenmod-based kernel work with Omni.
I have spoken with @Entropy512 about this a few times and we both agreed that we will NOT be altering the ROM in order to this one device to be able to use flo adreno stuff. That's just stupid and causes more work and problems for everyone else.
So the bottom line on this is, if you want a custom kernel, ask your kernel devs to cherry-pick the above commit and release Omni kernels separately from CM-based one.
If anyone has a problem with this, well, gerrit is free to use and open to all.
As before I will use this comparison to better justify my decision:
You wouldn't buy a Playstation controller(an accessory) to use with your Xbox(a primary), once you get home and realize it doesn't work because it's designed for something other than what you have, you call Microsoft and demand that they make the Xbox(primary) work with Playstation controllers(accessory)?
Absolutely Not. If ANYTHING, you would call Sony and demand that they make their controllers(accessory) work with the xbox system.
Hope this clarifies that issue a little better for everyone.
Also on another note:
I have narrowed down the camera preview freeze down to one repository

Jake the only reason I asked was because I did a bit of testing for you where the testbuild had support for custom kernels and you said that it should be fixed and you would push the change when you could. I even followed up with you at a later time and you said you hadn't had time/inclination to do it yet. I'm not demanding anything of you and I didn't want to bug you with the issue so I asked someone else who was in similar territory. Had I known about your changed stance on the issue, I wouldn't have brought it up.
CyanogenMod 12.1 is a free, community built distribution of Android 5.1 (LolliPop) which greatly extends the capabilities of your phone.
This is the unofficial Build of CM12.1 for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 I705 VZW LTE version.
**IMPORTANT** I705VRBLL2 FW required,if you have taken the latest OTA, and were not already rooted/unlocked you will not be able to use this ROM.
There is not root/unlock solution for the latest OTA. See more info in the last few pages of the linked root /unlock threads below.

Installation Instructions (These are all required)
ROOT and BOOTLOADER unlock required following the linked guides.
Flash THIS custom TWRP recovery with SELinux capabilities.
Download latest ALPHA from http://downloads.codefi.re/jrior001/cm/espressovzw.
Locate 5.1 Gapps via a quick Google search.
Wipe factory/data reset in recovery before installing CM12.1 (unless you are already on a CM12.1 build).
Reboot into recovery and install ROM and gapps.
Known Issues:
LTE radio - Acts up at times requiring a reboot. Causes wakelocks
GPS sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Reboot usually fixes it.
CAMERA - 720p recording fails, all other resolutions work well
USB wakelocks after removing USB cable, "USB Connected" pop-up doesn't go away.
OTG/keyboard dock doesn't work at all
Overall device is smooth and stable minus the above listed issues. I will continue to work on these but wanted to get some feedback on this so far as well. I'm open to assistance if anybody else has one of these and some talent and wants to help.
Huge thanks:
@invisiblek and the rest of the Samsung MSM8960 device maintainers, without there work to follow this would have never happened..

I'm not as experienced as some others so this took 3 attempts I think...in between 3-4 month breaks to get the 3.4 kernel booting but I finally got it.
I've got GPS fixed and I'm close on USB. Its proper in windows I think but Linux connectivity is still giving me issues. I'll try to get a new build up in a few days with all that.
I my self am on linux. I use elementray os.
2/28 build is up now, GPS and USB should be proper. OTG/dock still not working but not a major concern for now.

I don't either. Or I would.
I can confirm that data is working. Thank you for breathing new life in this tablet
Edit. Had running for a full day and data works most of the time. A soft reboot fixes it though

If you wouldn't mind I'd like to see the logs when it craps out. I still have some hacks in place for debugging. When it acts up, reboot to recovery and grab the following:
/data/data/logcat.txt
/data/data/kmsg.text
/data/data/radio.txt
Oh and there is a newer recovery build and an updated build at the download link.
I'm dropping the "ALPHA" label at this point. Everything that should be working seems to be in order at this point and the builds are more than reasonably stable. I just uploaded a fresh build w/f2fs support on /data and /cache if anybody is interested in using that. Changing /data to f2fs will require a FULL factory reset and SDCARD wipe as sdcard is emulated on /data/media so be prepared to lose EVERYTHING. TWRP 2.8.5 is required if you wish to reformat anything as f2fs. Both are available at my codefire download link in the OP.
A few minor annoyances remain:
Charging is painfully slow.
USB OTG doesn't work at all.
Plugging USB to PC tends to create some nasty wakelocks.
LTE data is glitchy.
Keyboard dock support hasn't been brought in.

CHANGELOG:
05.02
- Hopefully fixed the biggest deal breaker for selfie whiners, front camera, however, since there are 3 different front camera models for this device, let me know if there are problems, and if so, your specific camera model;
- New media encoding libraries, should be way faster to generate encoded multimedia files - this doesn't affect pictures, only videos and audio;
- New BT libraries;
- Applied patch as indicated by our great friend, Raziel. People with two SIMs should be good now;
- Miracast now should be working out of the box;
- Bad same thing: A-GPS isn't as simple as I initially imagined, I'll leave it the way it is for now, so keep it in device only mode;
27/04:
- Blobs from 8.2.4.0;
- Hardware GPS completely fixed (keep it in Device Only mode): High Accuracy or Battery Savings do work properly, but Google Services creates a wakelock requesting position all the time. Not really fixable at this point, and not anymore a priority, next will be front camera;
- Removed a bunch of useless stuff;
- Deep sleeping even better than before;
Me and Raziel are taking over msdx's and Ahnik's work, which are awesome developers, but are probably working on other devices for now. Once they come back, I will let go off of it, since they are way better developers than myself.
Note: Please, do not quote me to ask whether you should "wipe data before or after installing rom", or any similar questions.

I don't know if you did but msdx was constantly merging the new releases from codeaurora here:
https://source.codeaurora.org/quic/la/kernel/msm-3.18/refs/tags?h=LA.UM.5.3.1_rb1
Release list is here, you can see that our tag is LA.UM.5.3 :
https://wiki.codeaurora.org/xwiki/bin/QAEP/release
It may be a good idea to continue. Just something to consider.
Hopefully the sources can be released and worked on in the open, as msdx321 and Anik1199 did. Maybe rebranch on markw-dev repository?

I didn't know about the existence of that section. But I don't think I can move this thread. We need an admin/moderator
is it normal that it takes so long to reboot? Almost always have to "prepare" the apps after all reboots
EDIT: Sometimes, even reboot twice, idk why

Ok, guys, we might have solved the GPS wakelock problem. Keeping GPS on "Device Only" mode now works perfectly and the GPS sleeps like a baby after using it. However, "High accuracy" still keeps the phone awake, but I guess for now it's some good improvement. Also, updated our blobs to 8.2.4.0 (not sure if this is good or bad, haha). I'll test battery life now and probably post an update by tomorrow.

Before you get a device, look at their previous history on xda, namely development , previous Nubia red devices didn't get a lot of love.. Most people jumped on OnePlus and pixel, or even the Poco.
I believe there will be ROMs but there don't be a huge amount and little problems that require a lot of work will probably remain.
Great device but not a lot of Devs will dive in I don't think..
Hopefully it'll explode and there will be tonnes of ROMs but I doubt it unfortunately.
Saying that, what about GSI's? Is it treble compatible? They could be your saving grace.
It's a gamble.
Trying to build one.
I am trying to build a lineage rom , need to build TWRP(almost done with it, need to test though) first as the current TWRP only supports CN ROM, the source code they have given on GIT is not so compatible for building custom ROMs, if all goes well I will be releasing it soon.

The current EU / NA Rom has a lot of missing features and bugs. Would be nice to have auto brightness, customization for home screen for the icons 5 x 6 / 4 x 7 and so on, a flat audio equalizer, custom Kernel with Battery and Performance optimization and so on

Yea potentially, if twrp isn't capable of wiping. Then you'll need to do the following.
Make a back up to your computer !!!!
Also if decryption isn't working.
Install twrp.
Push or copy the ROM to the phone .
Root of SD if you can read it.
If you can't decrypt then push to /tmp
Wipe anyway in twrp and then flash the ROM. (GSI IMG)
Then flash the stock recovery and wipe / factory reset in stock recovery.
Boot the IMG, if it doesn't boot after the stock wipe, flash twrp and push / copy the ROM to SD / /tmp
Then flash , it should boot.

If you are starting to question the question you should leave your excitement and start analyzing the phone in a more detailed manner.... Reading your comment made me write to you in a more detailed manner....
So let us begin:
-> The Auto Brightness works and does not work, there are so many times were it does not, so basically you don't have that option
-> The phone has random freezes or reboots from time to time, even if i'm on NA lastest build, no root, bootloader locked in order to sell the phone, last night it gave me some concerns when i tried to wake it up via fingerprint and it would not, i hat to restart it via Power Button and Vol Down to enter bootloader menu
-> The camera takes pictures like my ex Note 3, it should have a better sensor than mid range phones, would be cool to have a camera apk that's optimized for this device
-> Performance degradation over time, i noticed the device starting to run a little laggy before reset, now it's ok for the moment, we need a better kernel with working features like battery stand by, performance when needed and so on
-> Why should i install junk apps to have a simple customization app drawer ? This was the issue to begging with about LAG
-> Lastly, yes, we need a custom rom were people contribute with feedback of the software and constantly improve over time, if i struggle to think a little bit, i can come up with at least 3-4 more issues with this device,
